Hello,
I have been looking around and I am having trouble finding if there is an app that would do this. Does anyone know of an app that can disable the volume rocker on my phone from changing the media volume or disable the volume rocker completely? I always hit it by accident when playing games and sometimes it happens in class during a boring lecture and its pretty embarrassing!
I tried an app called Volume Control + but it doesn't seem lock the volume if you have a game running. So I guess I need an app that would require root.
Volume Locker doesn't work on my phone either
Thanks!

I very often become irritated over accidentally touching the Volume buttons when not using the phone, for example when writing a text message in landscape mode, as touching the Volume buttons means changing the ringer status to for example vibrating or soundless.
Is is possible to disable the Volume buttons when not the using phone for calls?
I now that this means that I need to use the settings in order to change ringer volume etc.
Thank you in advance.
I too get annoyed by the same thing,
Glad its just not me,
I would also like to know if this is possible.
I don't know if it is possible to disable the controls but an app called ringer volume control http://www.androlib.com/android.application.vol-qwmn.aspx will restore the ringer volume to the level you have choosen in the program.
Thanks
That app works great.
Hey Folks,
I'm not able to adjust my volume or long press the up volume button to skip songs when I have the screen locked. Is this the way it is or is it just me?
The apps in question are Google Music Beta & Doggcatcher. I know for a fact that Music Beta allows for song skipping (not too important in doggcatcher). I just "upgraded" from an N1 running CM7 so that may be it and I may be spoiled. I thought that, at the very least, I'd be able to adjust the volume while the phone's in my pocket.
My X2 is the same way. I have to turn the screen on to adjust the volume. I hope it's a software issue that can be fixed.
I just found an acceptable work around. I installed Widget Locker and enabled any hardware button to wake the device. The screen wakes (but doesn't unlock) and the volume can be adjusted by just pushing the rocker.
Typical issue:
- about to start some app that makes noise (game, paused music player, etc)
- trying to lower volume in advance, by using the volume button: doesn't work, controls the ringer volume instead as the phone is not playing any sound yet
- start app: LOOOOUUUUDDDDDD... until i can lower volume using volume button.
Question: any way to change the behaviour of the volume button so it controls AT ALL TIMES the media volume?
Thanks!
Don't know about any app that would do that, but you can go to sound settings before opening games, media, players, etc. and lowering the media volume before starting those apps.
Stick a finger over the speaker hole until you're able to lower the volume, it effectively mutes it. (except in very, very quiet environments)
Hi, I'm a newbie,
and i feel your problem as well.
Who in the world often change the ringer volume?
Most people will want it either at maximum volume, or minimum volume (off, at silent mode)
Most people (i believe i speak for most people),
would rather have the volume rocker to control the media volume.
Is there a better fix for this? Please help.
covering the volume hole is a nice trick, but its not really an effective solution.
Man who stick hole in finger better sticking finger in settings sounds and adjusting sound levels no ???

I use a "lock the ringer" app for this purpose alone.
If I could reprogram the volume buttons to always only affect the media, I could even get rid of the above app.
Loads of custom ROMs and custom stock ROMs have the option to have the volume expandable so when you tap the rocker the dialer volume appears but then there's a little settings icon at one end and you can tap that and media, notification and alarm volume all appear
Hi everybody,
I've disagreements with function of volume button in "normal mode".. because ring volume is absolutely useless for me.. I would like control media volume instead of ring volume in "normal mode".. Does anyone know how I can do that?
Thank you very much
PS: sorry for my EN
really nobody knows?
When media are being played, the volume keys adjust media volume,
so why would anyone need to adjust media volume without playing any already?

because..for example:
I'm browsing on internet and I want click on some video. But I remember in last time I was listening to music very loudly and I don't want loud video now.. the easiest way is click on video and after that pressing "-" volume button.. but phone takes time to know he is in "media mode", and begins reducing ring volume.. after that I want back my level of ring volume to max, but phone already increasing media volume => I am very angry!!
the same in games etc etc...
I don't want changing ring volume 10x a day (knowingly or UNINTENTIONALLY too) I don't need change it ever. I can recuce it in Settings, or completely in lock screen...
That's why...

Happens to me too, i use an app from the market called status bar shortcuts, so i pinned the volume settings right in the status bar so i can adjust the media volume quickly
You could try that

thank you mate, I know about this app but it still doesn't solve my problem... It will be a lot better to adjust something in system and change ring volume to media volume in function of volume button but I don't know where and how..

Hey, I have a Nexus 4 and I want to use the volume rocker as the power button to wake the device when it's in sleep. That's because sometimes the volume rocker is more accessable to me than the wake/sleep button. I know the app for this is tasker. Now here is the basic plan:
If the screen is off + VOLR changes (up or down) >> Screen on.
My problem is with the function that checks if the Volume has changed. I tried several things but nothing worked.
Is my idea possible without a rooted device? Is my plan aiming at the right direction? Please help.
Thanks in advanced
Oren.
I would like to know if this is possible as well. I am stock rooted on my Nexus 4.
