If you look at my signature, I'm still running Bionix Fusion 1.1 (JI6 build).
Vibrant development has taken off lately, given the recent leaks of different builds in such a short period of time (JK2,JK6,JL1). Ive pretty much flashed all the major ROM releases, including Gingerclone and Nero, and I find myself unsatisfied.
I always find myself reverting back to JI6 and I cant put my finger on why. Granted, I'm not as caught up in the goose chase of staying current as some others may be, but for the sake of keeping up with the forum/development and enjoying new mods/themes/features, you would think it would behoove me to upgrade to a current build. Yet I still cant bring myself to commit.
Now, IMHO these ROMs based off of leaks are very very good stuff, but still not as stable (by that i mean as smooth as silk) as previous builds, and they tend to be a bit buggy. I think this is a major factor for me.
It could also be that I currently have my phone setup EXACTLY the way i want it (theme/appearance, modifications), and I dont want to have to go and dig around for everything for the newer build. Yes, its laziness, but what can i say.
There are things out there that are available for newer builds that are not for older builds, but i still dont feel the trade-off is worth it.
Does anyone else feel this way, or am I now old-fashioned??? Like you just reach a point when youre reallly happy with your phones setup, combined with getting just a little exhausted with the constant changing? Dont misunderstand, this is not me wishing that development would stop. Hell no. Im talking about that feeling you get when you dont have the energy to upgrade on such a constant basis, even though you want to keep up with the crowd (the forum)
you need justification for your setup?
wasted space.
My 2 cents, the reason why there are so many new roms are because of the leaks. For the JK2,JK6,JL1 - These are just Modems not the actual roms.
You can upgrade your phone to the newer modems without having the need to do a complete install or mess up your themes. Just so that you know, these new modems are supposed to give you better reception & Improve GPS performance.

whats your problem? why are you always on my case??
GENERAL section, im bored at work and its something i was thinking about and id like to hear if anyone thinks the same way.
Hey, i have an idea....EVERY time i think about posting I will PM you, and I will ask you if you personally are interested in what im going to post, and if it meets your seasoned standards.
Piss off with your pitiful, embarassing internet ego. As mad as your post made me, as im typing this, all i can think about is how much better my life must be than yours, considering that i dont have to gutlessly cyber-bully people on forums to compensate for the alienation i experience in the real world. Flag me for flaming, i wont lose any sleep, pal.
Attend the "Town Meeting" tomorrow, you may learn something. I personally am not attending, and its because of members like you. Members who have been around for a while and break every forum rule, yet never get disciplined and probably never will. I dont care how many posts you have, or how much you contribute, no one should be immune to discipline. Yet, somehow, dicks like you are allowed to roam free with no consequences. Im simply trying to start a relevant discussion, and instead of easily passing over it, you come in and immediately start trying to derail/bellittle it. do you have ANYTHING better to do?
Guys, lets just relax and stay on point here. You can always ignore comments you do not like.

Whatever floats your boat, if JI6 works for you then stay with it. ROMs are like a work of art, you may like one artwork over another, its all individual preference. I was flashing ROMs frequently until I settled on Macnut R14, it will be my daily driver for a while....

Any CM7 news for X2?

Nothing new.
Not until we unlock the bootloader...
Probably nothing especially since the bionic has come out. DX2 has always been the Red Headed Step Child.

That's not true. CM7 for the DX1 works with a locked bootloader and 2nd-init. DX1 CM7 also only works right now with a Froyo kernel. It should not be impossible now that we have 2nd-init with GB.
Did anyone ask who was actually working on it? I remember the name "dragonzkiller" thrown around but nothing seemed to have come from it. If he isn't, did anyone actually start up the project again? I hate this idea of asking "what the status?" without asking "who is working on it?" and "can we help out?"

The 'locked bootloader' response is pretty standard on this, and it's getting annoying.
Original X= locked bootloader = CM7
However (I may be wrong) didn't they get CM7 to work by using a dev X? Figured out some way to use 2nd-init after playing with a fully unlocked X? I remember reading something like that...

That being said, you will wind up with a CM7 that has no custom kernel. Nothing wrong with that, but it's kinda half assed if you ask me. Basically like installing a theme + apps and debloating. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

That wouldn't make any sense. If you are unlocked, you wouldn't need 2nd-init since you have complete access to the first init. Also, they had to pull a number of modifications to get the Froyo kernel to work on the CM7 GB base. If you are unlocked, you shouldn't need to do all that work. You would've just flashed the latest and greatest kernel.

True. But my feeling right now is that we have no idea at the phone's base performance with all of the Moto blur running on top of it. I'd like to see at least one pure AOSP ROM to see where we are at.
Plus more flashing options are good and CM7 is not a bad option.

My message came out wrong.
I always ask the same thing, "Why can they figure out CM on an X but not an X2?" - and someone told me they learned from an unlocked developer device what it would take to make it run on a standard locked X. Basically the ones engineers get.
This was the answer I got in a forum, so I guess I should take it with a grain of salt, but that's what I read.

Not to offend you because I don't really even know you, but I think this highlights a problem in our community.
I think our community has an awful mentality. There are too many people who say they want something without really knowing what to do to get it, let alone have the initiative to get it. I think the biggest problem in the community is our lack of devs. Most of them don't even own this phone. Yet we somehow expect good ROMs to appear overnight and when we don't get them, we blame Moto and VZW for all our problems. Really? Say we get a bootloader unlock at the end of this year. Do we really expect devs to come to our phone in droves with all the LTE goodness in everyone's road map? Really? If we want CM7 on our phone, how about we work on a 2nd-init version today so if we get unlocked, it takes a few weeks for a kernel-enhanced CM7 instead of a few months.
I want us to change our mentality to doers instead of winers. So much time is wasted on flaming Moto and VZW and wining about our phone instead of something constructive. Take the initiative people. You want a ROM that does X, Y, Z? How about you learn how to make that ROM. Don't know how to make a ROM? Ask Nitro. Ask navenedrob. Go and ask someone who knows to help. If someone else has a ROM with the same idea, pair up and become a team. You want a kernel to overclock? Learn about kexec and how to get that to work. Learn about our bootloader and possible ways to crack it. There are so many ways to contribute to this community yet soo many people love to post in the "state of our crappy phone" thread. Seriously. Take the initiative people.
Now that I got that out. Is anyone still working on a DX2 CM7? If not what, do we need to do to get that started up again if someone wants it?

Agree. I would try helping with development if I knew how. I'd have to go learn Java now and who knows how long that will take. I was only saying that we needed an unlocked bootloader because you know that people are going to complain that we have CM7 (theoretically) but no custom kernel. You know how many headaches that would cause just from reading a bunch of threads full of complaints...

Someone named dragonzkiller is who your looking for...just posted in the development section that he's still trying to get it going...
Hi, Xperia people. You probably don't know me, but in the future I might be getting an Xperia U, and looking forward to it!
I couldn't find a XPU Q&A sub-forum, so I decided to post here. You're probably wondering why won't I get an Xperia S, or P? That's because my dad said I could pick a phone, up to £200, and he might get it for me, as a present for getting good grades.
Reading my own post, I probably sound like some stupid trolling, spamming kid who doesn't know a thing about Android, or programming, etc...
Well, I previously owned a HTC Wildfire S, until it got stolen. I do know about bootloader unlocking, rooting, fastboot, specs (CPU, RAM, etc.), Linux, Bootloaders, prgramming (I don't know any programming languages, but I know a bit about them, and I only know the tiniest bit of Java in the world that won't help anyone). I like making ROMS, and flashing them.
So I just wanted to know some basic stuff about the XPU. For example, as soon as I get it, play around with it for a bit, then should I unlock the bootloader, and start flashing some new ROMS (like ICS and stuff), or do I need to do some stuff before that. I want to try lots of ROMS (and I want to make one too. I made a stock like basic HTC ROM once.) I also want to know how to boot into the bootloader, and stuff. I know this all probably has been asked before, but if I get a good enough amount of answers, I might consider transforming the thread into a Noob Guide.
If you own an XPU, can you post links to some good ROMS, ICS, stuff like that. Thanks!!!!
My missus has an Xperia U and it's a fine phone. For the <£200 price, it's unbeatable IMHO. Sure there are compromises, but they are in the right areas, not the wrong ones. Sony got it perfect for that price.:good:
I probably won't be getting it now. I've done more research, and there's a lack of development, so I don't think I want to get it.
get it now!

Indeed, you don't get alot for a £200 budget, certainly not ICS update, dual core, unlockable bootloader and the U's build quality....

there is lack of development indeed, but only because xperia U is using a relatively new chipset. once the devs gotten familiar with it I think development will roll in nicely
Actually I've got my XPU for about 3 weeks, it worked fine for me and no problem was faced.
I'm proud that I can get a such brilliant smartphone with a very reasonable price and the chance for eating ICS:laugh:
Yeah, well it is a good phone. But I can't take my chances and waste money. Even if there is more development, it might not be that much. DoomLord said himself that he might not do any development for XPU as he's already busy with the other XPs and he can barely keep up doing that. Believe me, I'd like to make ROMS myself (I made one for personal use, then distributed it), but I don't think I can just buy a phone to do that, and there aren't many development resources to do that. Also, this sub-forum is kind of "claustrophobic" because it's most of the XP devices together, and it's kinda messy, for me. Sorry guys, I'd like to become part of your community, but I don't think I can. I might just get a Desire HD, if I can, because I know a lot about HTC devices, it's got S-OFF, and plenty of development. It's already got ICS (was in the second page of Portal).
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

Hi Guys
This one thought has been going through my head all day and all yesterday, and when I say it to people with android device which is custom ROMed or rooted, they have a little chuckle.
Now don't get me wrong, I love that the desire X has a development team for ROMs and what not, and I love every one of them (xpirt, atis112, MaartenXDA, neXus PRIME and whoever else I missed), but I can't help but think this is what they think

That's not true at all.
First of all, only one of the people you mentioned is a "recognized developer" and he is in school busy with studies. Dont expect him to work full time.
Secondly, I was a learner for just about everything but became RC here on desire x, not before. (Although you missed prototype, and xpirt and Maarten also fall in the same category, even higher then me, i guess.)
Thirdly,
you people got these fully working things
1. CWM
2. TOUCH CWM
3. TWRP
4. FULL SENSE 4+
5. AOSP MODS and ALL OTHER MODS
6. Custom Kernels (LOTS OF THEM, with unique)
7. MIUI (sense-based)
8. and many many many things i missed. (special mention to sense 5, apart from BT bug, which will get fix soon)
Above were almost fully functioning products. Now lets mention the rest.
1. CM9
2. CM10
3. AOKP-ICS
4. AOKP-JB
5. PARANOID
6. CM10.2
and many more i must have forgotten.
All of above was done by 1 dev, and others good at porting and compiling. Thats more than you should expect.
Your thread is not the first one like this. Sometimes people show amazement at slow pace, some show sadness, others are ruthlessly blunt and rude. I understand that. But what we need are more people willing to learn the stuff.
Everyone will work what they like... if i want sweep2wake on my phone, i dont care how many others want overclock or undervolt, i'll concentrate on it. and when i start work, i'll get plenty of help from other communities as well.
I hope you get my point.... for future reference, whenever someone opens this kind of thread, i'll copy paste this same post....

Look at this from another point of view, if you'd be the developer,
sometimes you'd be getting pissed when you try to bring something to work,
but it won't work after you've spent 3-4 nights, lets say a week at it.
They need variety too!
fixing bugs isn't just like catching them

And as for others that keep asking questions like this should really just buy another phone. And use Roms on that.

I'm sure he didn't mean that he has a "problem" with the devs (and other contributors). More like wanting to know why so many roms are seemingly discontinued before reaching stability. And the simple answer is that these roms (PACman, AOKP, etc) are CM-based, so they cannot be stable until we have a stable CM rom
But attempting your own rom is also a good suggestion. I'm gonna experiment with some development/porting after exams, though right now the only experience with programming I have is web/database/object orientated (VB, ASP.net, SQL, etc)
Hope it's not too hard.

So there is a member with one post deciding he has to judge the developers on this forum. That is exactly what we were waiting for...
This thread is extremely disrespectful and we can easily do without it. If you don't like the roms the devs offer here, proceed to make your own.
If you can't, just take what is offered or move on.
