I have all drivers and have tried several remedies but still no luck. Can anyone help, perhaps over teamviewer? If anyone can fix my problem with connecting and updating my rom, I will compensate them for their time.
What Operating System are you using?
What drivers have you installed?
HTC Sync?
PdaNet?
Did you install adb and fastboot or full sdk?
What are you getting at the prompt when you enter fastboot devices while in fastboot from the fastboot directory on your pc with the firmware in that same location?
Your issue is with installing the firmware,.... right?

I do have debugging mode on as well. At the least it does show "USB connected" on the new kitkat rom, but still nothing on the computer.
I tried pdanet+ as well with no luck but I'll try again with this new rom. I'll report back tomorrow.
PDANet+ doesn't work either. My phone says USB connected, but when I remove the USB, it still says connected.
I don't know what's wrong and I'm hoping you could help me out via Teamviewer. I've already sent you my Hangouts details so we can talk faster.
Thanks!
I couldn't find a way to turn usb debugging on in the 4.09 ota. I can't adb to my phone when it's fully booted into the system, but if I boot into bootloader and plug the phone in I'm able to get fastboot to recognize it in fastboot usb mode (adb still doesn't work though). Not sure if this helps, but that was my experience and the only way I was able to install twrp so I could root after the OTA (I'm unlocked and s-off).

USB debugging can be activated by unlocking the Developer Options menu by going into About > Software information > More > tap repeatedly on Build number.
Obvious question, but someone had to ask, you try a different USB cable? That one could be going bad. One of my cables cannot do data transfer but can charge the phone, while my other one works. Also, did you try a different device with that specific cable? Have you tried a different USB port? Those can go out as well.

I think at this point, this may be your best bet:
Flash my stock rooted full odex Jellybean rom.
Use Flashify to flash the stock recovery I posted in the same thread, since your fastboot isn't working for whatever reason.
Then you can just take the OTA, which will update your firmware.
Then you can flash the stock rooted version of the rom, or whatever rom you choose...
Good luck! Sorry our Teamviewer session was of no use.

When I plug my phone into my computer, it is no longer recognized by windows. It used to... now it doesnt...
I have googled this
I have checked the forums
I have NOT found a solution that works
I have tried booting my phone while it's plugged in.
I have tried reinstalling kies.
The phone comes up as "uknown device" in the usb section of device manager, when i specify the 64bit drivers(I'm running win7 pro 64) it says drivers are up to date! and then proceeds not to work.
I have also tried setting my phone into usb debugging mode.
I have tried all my computers usb ports.

I have noticed that some ROM's will enable debugging, I personally run a MAC. But you may want to check those settings to see if its enabled/disabled. But if your charging on it you should be good. Have you tried to odin back to stock and seeing if that helps?
Other thing: do you have the samsung drivers installed on your PC? even if you don't you should still see the external storage just not the internal.

What rom are you using? If you are running one of the test CM7 builds you have to download the Google drivers from the Android SDK.
Does your phone show up when you mount it as external memory? Did you install the drivers and kies as an administrator?
exact same scenario!
I am having the exact same issues as the OP! Except that i have the unbranded gt-i9000. My galaxy s is completely stock, no custom firmware or launchers. Heck, after the last factory reset, not even any apps!
I have tried every suggestion on every search i could do. I have 4 computers with xp sp3, win7 sp1, ubuntu 10.04.1, and mac os x 10.5.8. Nothing is working on any of them. I've even tried different usb cables, just to rule that out.
Could it be a samsung hardware issue?
Hi guys,
I have a problem that's fairly common but I can't get it right
I can't install new drivers for my SGS2, my pc/laptop don't recognize it anymore.
I have flashed an ICS rom before so I also tried the Nexus S drivers, no success.
I have tried to work with Android SDK manager but since my laptop can't find my phone, it won't find it as an adb device.
I managed to get back on 2.3.3 via CWM manager but my USB jig also doesn't work anymore.
I have tried everything regarding Kies and new drivers so I'm pretty much out of hope... Anyone with suggestions?

Problem is that I can't flash back the old bootloader..
I think the logical step would be to try another PC, given you've tried everything else & nothing has worked.
You could also maybe try Heimdall (search for it on here).
Also, if you haven't tried different USB cables (in particular the one that came with the phone), give that a shot. Also make sure you're connecting the phone to a powered/mainboard USB port & not a hub port. Also, try toggling USB debugging in your phone settings.
That's about all I got. Try these things if you haven't already, but definitely try another PC.

I have tried different ports with different cables, different pc also won't install the drivers.
Usb debugging on/off doesn't work either.
Going to try heimdall today but it has something to do with my phone since I flashed so many files before with my pc and with my laptop.
Will post after I tried.
Yeah it sounds like a phone issue given you have been able to flash firmware with that PC previously. Good luck with Heimdall, fingers crossed for you.

Nope, heimdall can't recognize my phone either.
Running out of ideas here.
I guess there isn't an option to flash the old bootloader other than Odin huh?
Unfortunately Mobile Odin can't flash bootloaders yet, so Odin (and probably Heimdall) are your only options. Either way you're going to need USB.

My phone doesn't connect at all.
I have tried uninstalling everything including drivers and such via USBDeview.
The problem lies with the phone itself I think, not my pc.
I think I have found the problem.
I think my USB port from my phone is broken.
I will try to reset my binary counter with Triangleaway, then flash back original firmware without root and then send it for repair to the Vodafone shop!

Yeah I think that it has to do with the bootloader, but a broken usb port is also a common problem.
I still have warranty so I will just let Vodafone repair it.
If my pc still doesn't recognize it after that, then I'm screwed.

My problem is that my phone rooted with Revolutionary Hboot 1.4 stopped being recognized by my computers on multiple ROMs and stock kernel along with Chads #9....when I connect it no audible noise sayings its connected, doesent show up in device manager, no notifications on pull down on the phone nothing....I cant connect adb cause it doesnt recognize the phone even when I go into fastboot etc I get nothing. Ive searched and searched and found people with similar problems with no real solution but Ive tried it all from removing reinstalling drivers changing ROMS wiping SD card and formatting phone until eyes bleed and 4 different usb cords. Once during several hours I did get the pop up asking what I wanted to do but it wouldnt connect or give the audible warning. Could it be a hardware problem? Should I try going to stock?
Are u possibly on MeanRom maybe 3.7 or so and anthrax Rls 8 beta 2 or 3.
If so; you may have chad0989's "fast charge" script on & preventing usb stuff from working. One of my last 10th posts in MeanRom has details on what to change or u could move to Mr 3.92 where the script is disabled by default.
Edit: I must be tired and didn't read your post correctly & doubt this is your issue. Is usb debugging enabled? (shouldnt matter with fasrboot). Did u uninstall all the HTC drivers/sync etc, & reinstall just the driver (see revolutionary.io for just the driver).

No I havent.....How would that affect it if it wont mount when the phone is booted? I cant get it to connect in fastboot either.....is it possible that the data pins where its plugged in could be bad? Isnt it like 2 are for charging and other 2 are for data or something?
Have you tried mounting it when in recovery?
Have you tried using a different port, or a different computer?
I would try flashing a different recovery (twrp or 4ext) and try mounting the USB device through the recovery options, if that doesn't work, I would say it could be a bad port.
A recovery can effect if your able to connect to your pc. But if your trying to get your issue solved try flashing a different recovery to see if will help.

4. If that still doesn't work, try PDAnet http://junefabrics.com/android/ Once you have that installed, click "all programs", click (or right click depending on your OS) "Install Legacy USB drivers". Then plug your phone in to complete installation.

The other is that the phone may be setup for the diagnostic modem mode
that store technicians use to triage the phone. You can access the menu to
change this by typing ##8778# in the dialer.
The top "UART" setting should be on MODEM, and the bottom "USB" setting
should be on "PDA" for regular operation. As technicians we normally change
this setting back, but there is always a chance someone forgot it when
finishing up a phone.
6. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic145884.html#post875300 THIS JUST SAVED ME! My transform said it was connected but my computer didn't "see" it. After doing this, just reconnect. If you have any questions about this method, just ask me.
7. If all this fails, try another computer, os, usb port, or usb cord.
If you cannot get the phone to connect, you can use adb to push, pull, etc. files. For example, to push, you would install the sdk and set it up (google it). Then put a file, such as browser.apk in the platform-tools directory. Click run, type cmd. Cd to your platform-tools directory. Type adb devices to see your phone plugged in. Then type "adb push browser.apk /sdcard" to put the apk on your sd card. I think there is a adb wireless app somewhere too so you can even skip the cable.
Here is a list of compatible usb cords that have been shown to work:
This is the one i use... its retractable and a little short but it works perfectly http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Retract...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1310868486&sr=1-3

it sounds almost impossible to do anything to your since tgeres no way of getting you computer to recognize your evo. Phone hardware does go bad eventually. This is most likely a hardware issue and no debugging or command typing is going to fix it. Your only options are to go have it serviced. Not though sprint of course. They won't even touch it. If you know somebody you could take it to them and have it looked at to see what's going on and find a fix with it. I had a fairly similar problem with my acer tablet, Couldnt get data to mount, tried all the solutions with no success. Then I tried typing commands to rewrite the data table nodes associated with the data partition. With no success either. The partition was bad. Back to my point, hardware does go bad. Hopefully you can get someone to fix it.

Device manager on the PC needs to show USB composite device, not generic android device.
Regardless of Odin or Kies Being installed, the PC should still see it.
Go into phone, and turn on USB debugging, then manually connect the device in the network menu.
That may help.
Also, are you using the factory cable ??
These devices require a factory cable.
Overall, you may still have driver issues....g

If so, the rom may have USB issues, and you could also get much more info from the particular rom thread.
Unknown USB device on pc usually means generic drivers are being used, and that tells me the specific device info may be missing in the new rom.
Is is AOSP/AOKP ??

I know that blackstar USB function is good, and you may be right on corruption issues.
If the above links and methods have failed, then I suggest an Odin restore of the stock rom to repair the device partitions.
But be careful. Some devices are very resistant to corruption, while others seem to brick without warning.
Not that I believe we are risking a brick, but with so many users running blackstar without problems, I'm simply urging caution, as a portion of the process was obviously damaged.
Another option, is to wipe the caches on the device, but not data.
Then flash the rom over the top of your current build.
This will often repair damaged or missing files from an incomplete download.
But I would download a fresh copy directly to the device via Wifi, just to be sure ....g

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953506
example:
*#197328640# Service Mode
and same as you... the code you'd provided does not work for me either... some works ... some don't.... nothing wrong with that... try uninstalling the generic drivers your desktop is using now and installing these:

Yea I've used it before (same version too ) but something went very wrong this go around apparently. I can't use Odin as it doesn't recognise the device being connected and mobile Odin (which is what fixed the problem for someone's international note but sadly doesn't work with the i717) and I've tried wiping caches, formatting my internal and external sd, and even flashing a different rom but not matter what no computer will recognize and connect correctly

Ugh...
Not good ...
I suppose it's possible that you have a hardware failure of some sort.
The port might have failed.
I'm not quite ready to say you need a new one, but that's a good next step.
There's been several port failure threads lately, and this one may turn into another.
With the device functioning properly on the rom , we are back to trying a new cable next, then on to the new port.
Of course, only if we know that the PC environment is working properly.
Any new programs on the PC ? Antivirus programs in particular ?
I'm just trying to cover all of the bases ...g

Nope nothing new other than the ROM and any other USB deice properly installs drivers and works including 2 other galaxy family phones a droid maxxx and an iphone 5 for goid measure. I think you may be right and its hardware failure at this point somehow. I'll probably just end up doing a warranty exchange because I've spent hours and Google just keeps letting me down every time I find a new "solution" . Thanks I appreciate all the suggestions

Always welcome ..
But I'd try a cable first ...then warranty claim.
I really don't think you did anything wrong.....I think the device failed ....g
Go to Settings -> Wireless and Network -> USB Utilities then press Connect Storage to PC
It's a little deeper than that ...g
I rooted my phone a while back with a one click root process that rooted it to a rooted version of the stock rom. Recently I recieved notification that Jelly Bean is now available for my phone and that I need to connect to my computer via usb to update. But, my computer keeps getting a "device not recognized" error. I tried to install Kies for the drivers with no luck, uninstalled the drivers from Kies and installed the others straight from the Samsung website with no luck. I have tried 2 different computers and three different usb cables, including 2 oem usb cables. I have windows 7 which may be the problem. Are there any work arounds like going to stock from my sd card? My phone is no longer rooted, but for some reason still has Superuser which i can uninstall still. I brought my phone to Sprint which the guy was really cool and informed me that its not the usb port on the phone and that odin is recognizing it, but odin on my computers doesn't even see it.

Did you have the Android drivers installed previously? I'm assuming that you're trying to install the drivers for the first time on that your computer and that you have USB Debugging enabled. I'll also be assuming you disabled driver verification, which can be a problem in some computers.
First you need to boot your phone normally, and plug it into the computer. Press Win+R to open the "Run" dialog and run "devmgmt.msc," which is the Device Manager. Look up the "Unknown Device" that is your phone and double click it. Click on the Event tab and check the Hardware ID in the drop-down box. It should look something like this (sorry mine is Android Composite ADB Interface because I've installed it already, but that's what it should look like in the end):
Now you have to make a new section in the driver inf. It should be in the google adt bundle and in the extras\google directory. The file name is android_winusb.inf. In the picture below my tablet is the iDeaUSA CT702. You need to add one of these sections in both the x86 and x64 section if you have a 64 bit computer. If not, just put it in the x86 section. The %USB stuff needs to match that in the Device Manager Hardware ID.
Now you should have a device called Android Composite ADB Interface or anything like that is fine.
It says there are no drivers and that there is no hardware id. All there is are device instance id. Im not quite sure where the driver.inf is located. This has been a pain for the past week. Hopefully we can figure this out. Lol.

I think there may have been something wrong with the rom. If i could just reinstall stock i think it would work. Just need to get the USB to read to the computer.

If you don't know where the driver is, then download a new one. I've uploaded the official Google USB driver to mediafire here: Mediafire - usb_driver.zip
You need to modify this driver, then when asked to select the inf file for driver installation choose the android_winusb.inf inside. After installation your phone should be recognized. Please tell me if there's any uncertainties you have.
Have you tried connecting the device with usb dev mode disabled? I know its strange but I've a few devices that use different drivers if the usb dev mode is enabled. I've also devices where I need to enable usb mass storage setting every time (settings menu or slide down notification). Also it never hurts to try a new cable, usb wires do tend to wear out and are very cheaply manufactured so they break inside with the slightest tug of the wire. I know most of this stuff is uber basic but I've made things much worse on countless occasions by overlooking simple stuff like this.

Good point. If you don't have developer mode usb debugging enabled, then there will be no "unknown device" as shown above in the device manager. Be more detailed about "no luck" please.
