I am already in 14.3.A.0.757. I upgraded to 757 a few weeks and then , unlocked BL and rooted following this guide
Now, suddenly, since past 2 days, I have been getting notifications in my phone saying that a new system update is available 14.3.A.0.757 and asking me to connect the phone. This notification just won’t go away (can't clear). The "about phone" clearly shows build number as 14.3.A.0.757 !!!
What do I do? Try to run an update again using PC companion? Will I lose root or run into any other problem? Please advice
Thanks!

Tried that, but it just comes up the next time phone boots. Any idea on why the update already installed is not recognized?

If your rooted, any sony update service essentially sees the kernel as a custom one and so doesn't recognise it. You can disable the update service for now as you'd need to flash an ftf anyway to upgrade.

The wife finally decided to update her phone last night but we get an error
"unable to install or start phone software update"
the software on the PC is up to date, there's no proxy, firewall or AV software
I spent hours last night trawling the web for answers (and on here) but cannot find anything
anyone know how to help?
will it matter if the update to 2.1 was done manually by me from a file I got from on here (they took so long to release to the UK so I did the update following a thread on here like loads of others did)
any help appreciated with this
the phone isn't rooted (yet)
I will be rooting and putting on a new 2.2 or 2.3 ROM in the future but she hasn't the time to back everything up and re-install and set everything up yet
sorry i can't help, i never heard your issue...
but try to update using update service. don't use pc companion.

There are many other posts on this. However, I will try to help. At what point does it get to before it errors out? Is it at the Android guy with progress bar then an exclamation mark, a reboot, and then message saying it failed? Please give more info.
Yup it starts out with the open box ti show peogress and then goes to exclamation mark, reboots say update failed, i am rooted trying to go to 4.3.6 build 198_6 from 4.3.5 build 198_5

Ok...most likely it is failing the MD5 check. Have you removed any apps? When it gets to the Android guy and progress bar hold down both volume buttons at same time and it will tell you what is causing the issue. If it shows an apk in the error than it either can't find or verify the app. Post back to get more help if needed.
The webtop hdmi hack breaks the upgrade. If you've done that move the original .apk and .odex files back and it will upgrade.
Been there, had it happen to me.

I'm on 4.2.7 locked and unrooted. (4.2.7 OTA unrooted me, and haven't bothered to root again).
I get the same "up to date" message. With past OTA's, it takes a few days sometime before you can manually find and do it. Don't worry.

Hello guys,
I received a notification today saying that 4.1.B.0.431 update is available for my device. When I try to update the device restarts and it seems like it is updating. then it starts up and I get a message "The software update could not be installed"
If i try again it re-downloads the update then again fails..
Anyone can tell me what might be the cause of this?
I have Neo V .562 LOCKED bootloader with root and cwm installed.
Note that my SI number is NOT in the list that is in Sony site.
Thanks in advance.

Yes.. you can reinstall after update, and your device will stay rooted
I just tried repairing .562 and then root without installing CWM, when I try to do the OTA update again the same error message pops up "new software version could not be installed". need help
EDIT: Repaired again, rooted, and didn't install or disable any app then tried the update and it worked.
Strange..
worked fine for me..
Damn! still no OTA here
No ota to me tip ,and im on the sony list

No, I've never unlocked the bootloader. But I suspect Titanium backup or link2sd might be the cause because these are the only apps I installed the first time. Try removing them If you have them and try again. Or repair then root then try update before doing anything else..

This might be silly but.. have you guys tried manually checking in update center (not waiting for notification)?
Other than that, I honestly have no idea.

i am trying to update to 4.0.4 via ota but at the third step the last 10 times i tried my neo just fails... and when it restarts i receive the failure message...
does anyone had the same problem and solved it?
thanks,

Hi,
Can you verify if it is a titanium backup problem? i rooted my mom's neo and have the same problem but im not near her for some months so i can't check.
Hey guys,
Today my phone said the update 17.1.1.A.0.402 is available for me phone. But whenever I try to update it via Update Center app it downloads the firmware and then it's verifying and after a few seconds it says 'could not verify'. I tried to update via PC Companion, but PC Companion says there's no update for my phone. Any idea what's wrong?
My phone has a locked bootloader and it's rooted. I also got dual recovery installed. My firmware is stock, I only rooted it.
It wont let you update if you have a modifed Firmware
Dual recovery and root can be counted as modded firmware
You can use flashtool to flash a stock rom (include system only and exclude data wipe)

I guess I'll have to repair my phone using PC companion before I can update? Well let's do that.
Guys I repaired my phone through pc companion and it put the .402 firmware on it. Then I rooted it again. Problem fixed.

He used the repair function in PC Companion, which will wipe the phone and install the latest update.
If you prefer to keep your data, you could just download the 402 firmware FTF file and use Flashtool to flash it, then root the device again. Just ensure that you untick the Wipe Data option in Flashtool.
Yes. I tried to repair it and followed all the steps but it said the software had been changed after I plugged in the USB while holding the volume down.
I will try to flash. 314 using the other method. Currently have 402.

Does your phone switch on? What actually happened? We'll need more info so we can try and help m8. You could always plug in your phone and try again or try repairing your phone via pc companion if the update method fails or try flashtool:good: but more info m8 please

The one on Sony website is to flash stock firmware on unlocked bootloaders.

Your phone has a modified system partition. It is either rooted, unlocked bootloader of has recovery installed. You cannot update with ota.

Hi,
I have Xperia Tablet Z2 wifi model (SGP511)
I have unclocked the bootloader and rooted it.
The Android version is 4.4.2 with build version at 17.1.1.A.0.402
I connected the tablet to my PC and using Sony PC Companion tried to update it.
The PC Companion recognises that my tablet needs an update, proceeds to download it but when it starts updating, it immediately fails saying "unknown system version, the tablet can not be upgraded."
How do I upgrade?
Thanks,
Aseem

You need to relock your bootloader or use flashtool to update your firmware.
If all fails, just use sonys repair function, it will automatically update your tablet in the repair process. You will however lose all data that is not backed up
