[Q] I9100 registers SIM upon pin change only - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Upon having converted a SHW-M250S to I9100 (unrooted) I stuck for days now to look for solutions to get fully functional GSM SIMs working on the phone which had no problem with the same SIMs before conversion.
The actual data are:
Model: GT-I9100
Version: 4.1.2
Baseband: M250S.UB23.0933.ST
Kernel: 3.031-1497824
Just by chance I discovered that a SIM pin change solves the problem, which however is not quite convenient, as it is required upon every system start.
Basically the phone starts, no SIM pin request comes up and hence does not register the SIM at the network (IMEI shows correctly upon *#06') AND there is no way to add an APN (just does not save any new entry).
As soon as a SIM pin change has been confirmed by the system it registers at the network and works fine until restart.
Do you know any cure for such behavior?

Click to collapse
The cure was simple: just switching off the PIN entry requirement and the phone registers immediately upon start-up!

[Q] Help! Seemingly unlocked SGSII does not work with all networks?

Hi,
I'm new to both this forum and android, just switched from iphone and already running into the same dead end that I was trying to avoid. Hope to get some suggestions on solutions before trying sell it off again...
I bought a second hand SGSII which is from the UK (T-mobile), and with the help of my brother who has a SGSII and have been on android for a while, I debranded/rooted changed ROM, Kernel and Modem firmware. Before doing this I noted that it did not work with the network I am on but it did with another (both Swedish). After rooting etc I tried again, still does not work (I've tried several sims from my provider, none of them work, still only the other provider). I tried using the Sim Unlock app on Market but it is of no use: It DOES NOT ASK for a sim unlock code on start up. In fact, the unlock app worked and gave me such a code but I cannot use it. Also, I tried plugging in the code using a few of the call codes but it was of no use. And when I put *#SIMLOCK# into the phone dialer everything says 'off'.
Does anyone have any idea of what to do? I cannot go back to Samsung as I do not have a receipt. I hate to think that I have to end my use of Android before it ever started but I have searched my problem for days on end and neither me nor my brother can think of anything.
Any help most appreciated!
Cheers Matt
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband: I9100NEKF2
Kernel: 2.6.35.11-ninphetamine-2.0.5+ ninpo at titan #20
Build no: GINGERBREAD.XXKH3
Network not working: Telia (Sweden)
Network working: Comviq (Sweden)
I am confused did you buy an unlocked phone . If not did you get it unlocked .

JJEgan - sorry if I was unclear. I do not actually know for sure, but as I have never seen the screen on startup where it asks for the unlock code I suspect that it must have been. It now - same as it has been for as long as I have had it - works only with one network which has nothing to do with T-mobile (on which is was originally).
I only know of one way of unlocking, i.e. the unlock app on Market. If there are others I would be very interested!
Phone may require you to enter the networks APN settings manually .
You may not have the correct CSC file for your network for automatic connection ,

Hi - been busy the last few days and unable to try getting the phone to work. I cannot enter the APN settings (which should only have to do with internet?) as I cannot connect to any network in the list - I get "unable to select network". I've tried multiple official firmwares with both only NEE (Nordic) CSC and multi-CSC (where I chose NEE) and none work. Any other ideas?
Cheers

[Q] i9105p signal and sim/carrier problem

I've an i9105p galaxy s2 plus nfc (ITV)
that is giving me the signal (on the top right) even if it doesn't have a sim card
and when I add a sim card, adding the pin without problems,
it cannot connect to any carrier at all.
If I try the carrier/network selection in the settings i get that i have to try later.
Imei and baseband are ok.
Theorically it's not locked. I've checked with an online service(i don't know how much are they reliable). I can give the imei in private if you are able to check it.
After rooting I've not found nv_data.bin (very strange for me) to try to unlock it. No trace of nv_data or anything similar in the whole phone (searched with rootexplorer).
Tried different apps (apk) to unlock but they cannot find the nv_data.
I've already tried the hard reset (same situation as above).
I just need suggestion on how to let it work with at least one sim.
thanks

[Q] No Service/Network?

Hi all Trying to help a mate with a phone he bought, He said there was no network service so I asked him to drop it off to me. I have tested it with my sim (EE) and I get no network service too. I have checked both IMEI numbers to see it is blacklisted/ blocked and it doesn't appear to be, they are both the same but for the last three digits 001 and 019 respectively. the 001 is the one that is shown on the back of the battery.
The version infos is as follows:
Model Number: P780_ROW
Android Version: 4.2.1
Baseband Version: P780.V20,2013/07/31 10:51
Build Number: P780_ROW_S115_130807
The phone appears to be in very good condition, it looks brand new. If the SIM is placed in the 3G/2G slot Slot 1(the slot nearest the red reset button, the SIM isn't seen, if its put into the 2G sim slot the SIM is seen and under SIm Management I can see The SIM Network Brand ie O2 -UK, the phone number of the SIM and Data Connection is in black but messaging and Voice Call are greyed out and faded.
The default language is English US so I am assuming this is a US phone because there are no other languages available.
I have tried a factory reset, a soft reset and looked at a hard reset but when it goes into the menu for hard reset the menu is in what I think is either Chinese or Taiwanese, well its definitely oriental so unless I known the sequence the menu is in I can't really chance screwing it up, plus the menu order may not be the same as in English.
Any help would be great
Did you tried flashing other basebands or any ROW firmware? If not please check my topic. If your problem still not solved, then it's probably hardware issue, need to send back to service center fro repair.
Hi thanks for the reply soralz, I will read your topic and try flashing different basebands I have a bit of an understanding as I have a Galaxy Note that I'm going to load up with Cyanogenmod 11 (Kitkat 4.4)
I'll read up on ROW Firmware first and try that if the basebands don't work.
Ok am I on a Chinese base because of what comes up if I Press the power and volume up buttons together, because I get Chinese text? and if I understand it right that means I need ROW firmware that is based on a Chinese base?

I9100 No SIM card/no IMEI/Unknown Baseband

Hi!
So I have this problem with my Samsung Galaxy SII that it doesn't recognize the SIM card for the most of the time. When this problem started, the phone was completely stock (Not rooted/Not a single flashing made by me). Android version was the latest official 4.1.2.
Problem description:
I could be using the phone completely normally and then suddenly it reports that there is no SIM card. Now with pulling out and putting back the SIM card and rebooting couple of times, it might recognize the SIM card again and work for a while (few hours).
What I've tried to fix this:
1. Tried the SIM card on another phone, it worked perfectly.
2. Tried another SIM card on my S2, didn't work any better.
3. I thought that as the warranty is over, I might aswell just root my S2 and install the CyanogenMod 12.1 and check if this fixes the problem (Well it didn't).
4. I saw that my IMEI number shows nothing so I did this: [GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps..
Well step 4 didn't bring back the IMEI number but now after rebooting a couple of times when I got my SIM card to be recognized again and then checked the IMEI, it was correct. Though the SIM card wasn't detected after a while again.5. Well now I flashed back the original Android 4.1.2 and checked the IMEI number (SIM not detected), it showed "null/null".
6. I went back to CyanogenMod 12.1 and saw that when it's showing blank IMEI, it's also showing "Baseband version: Unknown.
7. Flashed a new Modem+RIL, not helping either.
8. Tried many other things which I can't remember now but found by googling.
So it's sometimes working and also shows the correct IMEI and baseband and sometimes they are all gone?
My question here is that is there anything I can still try to get it working. And also if anyone knows where the problem could be? Is it some part that is faulty or is it the software that is messing with me? I'm quite handy at taking apart and changing the parts inside if that is the case. It's just that I'm not going to pay over 100€ for a new motherboard to get it fixed.
Thanks for any replies!

Prevent initial reset after SIM insertion (CSC change)

Hi there!
Im happy about my new S9+ (international DUOS variant available in germany), im just about to set everything up. Now, to keep my old phone as long as possible, i have not inserted my german T-Mobile SIM yet but already customized a lot on my S9+.
Now i've read here at XDA that the first time you insert a SIM into the device it will trigger a reset, no matter what you do and all my setup and customisation work will be lost for good...
Is there any way to prevent this hard reset?
I read about this method for a Samsung J3 smartphone:
1. Ensure you have set a PIN on the phone.
2. Shut it down, remove battery, insert SIM.
3. Start it up, wait till it gets to the initial lock screen. Do not enter the PIN.
4. Force the phone to shut down again..
5. Power it up again. After entering the PIN, the SIM should be detected and join the cell network, with no "security" reboot and factory wipe.
Can anyone confirm this?
Otherwise i would use the Samsung Cloud Backup to restore my settings later, hopefully this samsung backup is working...
Any other ideas? Thank you!
Ok people, i have tried the procedure i have mentioned above and my phone did not reset itself. It was the first time i have inserted a SIM, so this may actually work. But remember, i dont have a SIM-locked or branded phone, maybe those behave different.
On the other hand i cannot confirm that it would have done this reset in the first place if i just put in the SIM.
So i can only tell you to try out this method, it wont hurt your phone. And if it works it will save you a lot of time.
