My Note 2 had been running CleanROM for over a year, and I hadn't updated or done anything to it in that time. I was having some issues with lag and such but the final straw was yesterday my GPS quit working completely. When I tried turning it on my phone would freeze and I'd get a "System UI has stopped working" notification. So today I decided I'd start fresh and go back to stock 4.1.1 (I'm 99% sure that's what was on my phone when I got it) and used ODIN to flash back to that.
My question is, where do I go from here? I want to use one of the new ROMs utilizing the 4.3 or 4.4.2 versions, but I'm afraid I'm missing something important. I know not to just take the OTA updates, and I already installed (I think) the 4.3 MJ9 firmware update, but I'm not sure because it still says --- Android version 4.1.1 ; Baseband version I605VRUEMJ9 ---- Is this correct? Am I safe to install a 4.3-based ROM or do I need to update something else?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Yes you are.. Go ahead and flash away..
If you have problems connecting to wifi, then just go ahead and flash the MJ9 firmware again. But other than that you should be fine:good:

A bit of a nooby question, but I've never come across it or had to do it before.
I know I could flash a custom ROM but nothing quite stands out just yet, waiting for S3 USA release. There should be a lot more action on the ROM side then.
But at the moment I'm on stock, rooted and woke up with an update on my phone yesterday. From what I've read there's 2 updates 1 after the other and 1's a new kernel. I'd rather not update and root again if there's a simple way of removing the update e.g. like say delete a file from somewhere. After all my phone's running 100% as is.
Anyone know the answer? Its bugging me now, you can only perspone it for 3 hours at a time.
If I don't get rid of it by tomorrow I'm going to reaserch if i can just update over a rooted stock ROM. Find out about the new kernel build make sure I can root after updating and reluctantly update.
Thanks in advance
Marc

Hi mate
I have the same problem and can't get rid of the OTA update available message, if you find a solution then please post.
Many thanks!!
download the 'update' from sammobile.com it's the LF2 rom, install with mobile odin and tell it to keep root.... problem solved
I just used titanium backup to delete the updater. Seems to be working fine for now.
Finally
When I woke up, I read on the notification that it was downloading update...
Something over 200MB and it installed very easily.
All over my wifi connection at home.
Just gonna mess around with it before going to work....
Yup! Me too

rogers upgrade
did you guys root and have cwm installed? mine was installing the update, but then rebooted into cwm by itself. not sure what that was all about.
Yup mine booted into cwm and failed on something invalid? Anyone else with this?

Waiting to try the Rogers ICS when I get home. Looking forward to a hybrid/tablet ROM where we can use our Samsung native S-Pen apps and widgets.
I upgraded my co-worker's Note to Electron's UCLF6 stock rom just a week ago.
CWM'd back to stock, had to CWM flash the stock GB Rogers modem in order to get the upgrade to register.
He's wasting his data doing the upgrade now. Luckily it's only 251MB.
Maybe I'll hitup a Timmy's or Mc'D's at lunch and upgrade to Rogers ICS.

My OTA update failed with rooted phone and CWM. I used Kies(after it updated) and upgraded OK, losing root of course. On Rogers.

Didn't he also need to flash the stock recovery back to the phone in order to get the update?
No soup for me so far
I have a Rogers I717R, unlocked and rooted via the Odin method and am on Bell LTE and flashed with a Bell radio.
I have clicked on "Update" numerous times now, but it keeps coming back to me with "No update available"...is it because I'm rooted with CWM and running a Bell radio on the Rogers firmware?
I downloaded and installed Kies, but it says that my device doesn't support firmware updates via Kies or something to that effect... ;-(
I don't mind losing root (have to use that POS GOOD for Enterprise software for work), but I'm not sure what the issue is here or how best to address it. Do I have to reflash the original, untouched Rogers I717R firmware and radio via Odin to get the ICS update?
Thanks,
aus

May I ask where you got the "stock" Rogers CWM modem to flash? None of the links that I have found so far through searching through the forums are still valid
Do you think I have to flash back to stock Rogers firmware and if I do, will I lose all my data? That would be a bummer...
Thanks,
aus
Used kies and it worked like a charm! Now just need to re root.
Anyone got the modified email with the exchange security bypassed working yet on ics?

Probably a stupid question, but *how* did you use Kies to update? I get the prompt about "device is not supported for updates" or something to that effect in Kies
Update: nevermind, I found a CWM flashable Rogers modem and this time when I fired up Kies, it prompted me with an update to firmware.
I had to do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657262
Followed those steps to get mine to successfully update OTA.
Guess with the custom roms something got screwed up.
I had to roll back to the original gingerbread Roger rom. When this was done the update happened flawlessly.
Once rooted it works like a charm.

Since I have root and custom recovery, I need to flash stock, unrooted 2.3.6 Rogers ROM (LA2) and stock recovery. Mine succeeded on OTA and Kies, but I prefer via Kies for it's reliable.
Can anyone grab the OTA file when updating via KIES?
Guys has anyone seen the new Rogers modem(cwm) floating around?
ive updated thru kies but ive lost my root..... how do i unroot again?
Can anyone upload the downladed result please ?
all I can find right now ar uclf6 and uclf4 (bell ) no rogers in sight , also the f/w revision woudl be cool

Use Odin to flash the stock ROM image... It should restore stock recovery and everything
Dont worry, its not jb.
The only thing this update does is gives us keytones in the dialer again as far as i can see definitively.
It also reinstalls 11 bloat apps, att barcode scanner, facebook, and att family are 3 that i recall.
These all can be uninstalled easily by going to the playstore and conveniently, the 11 apps all need to be updated, or, if you prefer, do what i did and just unistall them.
Another app called Movies gets reinstalled, you can just uninstall it as well.
Two other possible changes that i cannot confirm because they might just be me, i havent benchmarked these...
The screen appears to be a tad darker when autobrightness is enabled.
The phone also appears to be slightly less sluggsih.

Two more small things my ram usage has decreased by about 50 mb on a fresh boot and it looks like there might be a small battery life improvement...
This update from AT&T increases the Baseband Version to: I717UCMB4
It also increases the Build Number to: IMM76D.UCMB4
No change in Android Version or Kernel Version.
Though not Jelly Bean an update to the Baseband Version is always welcome.
I seem to have a better LTE connection since the update, usually at my home LTE is weak and intermittent, I usually switch back and forth between 4G and LTE and this morning I am solidly on LTE.
Can someone post the full updated ROM here so I can flash it via Odin or cwm? Thanks in advance.

Or maybe a CWM flashable version of the update alone. Running deodexed UCLF6 with TWRP so it would not let me update.

I was able to restore to stock UCLF6 using this method;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
It will wipe your data and internal SD, but put you back to stock UCLF6. Now I just need to wait for the update. When I check is says I'm up to date.
Same here.... it says I'm up to date..which is obviously not the case.
An update .zip would be nice, to get around all the failed update attempts...
Those who have managed to get the update loaded, are reporting a much improved LTE connection using the new baseband, and I have no doubt that the update contains new APN's and RIL's to go with the new baseband image....g

Just went into date and time settings, deselected auto date and time and auto time zone, manually set the date to 3/23, checked for updates and there it was. Successfully updated to UCMB4. Also noticed the ability to disable bloat apps. Don't remember having that feature before, not sure, but it's great to disable unwanted apps!

May be a good idea to just hop into Odin and use a no wipe file. Start fresh and see how it plays out. Use the NC5 one since your still on the leak and really no huge benefit of staying on it.

Hi everyone! I need some help updating my S4. I rooted it awhile back and I'm very much of the mindset of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," so since it was doing everything I wanted, I've just left it alone and kept dismissing the prompt to install the OTA update. Now I'm having some issues and want some features of the newer versions of Android, so I was looking around for the best way to update it while keeping my root access. All the guides I can find, however, talk about upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4 or 4.2 to 4.3. So I was wondering...
1. What version should I update to? On my last phone, a Droid Bionic, one of the big Android version updates ran so horribly on it that I ended up getting a new phone. Because of that, I'm very nervous about updating my phone and having the performance suffer.
2. There must be a way to go straight from 4.2.2 to whatever version I choose, right? Do I need to go dig up some old guides on how to update my phone so that the most recent guides are relevant?
I hope I'm not being a super noob about this. I tried Googling around, and I'm pretty tech savvy but just haven't had the time to keep up with recent developments, so some guidance would be very helpful!
About my phone:
Verizon Galaxy S4
Model #: SCH-I545
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I545VRUDMI1
Thanks so much!

I put the baseband version of my phone in my original post. It's I545VRUDMI1. Or am I missing something? So that means I should use Odin to flash whatever rom I decide to go with, right? So if I went with something like this 4.4.4 Google Play Edition I can use Odin to put it on my device? But then if I decide I don't like that rom for whatever reason, I can't redo it with any roms based on an earlier version (4.4.2, 4.3, etc), but other 4.4.4 roms would work?
Thanks so much for the help!
