Best app for anti-theft? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for some good antivirus/antitheft app.
Esp. so that the app won't be removed on factory reset and things like wipe sd card etc.

Cerberus in one the best antitheft application for android

I use Avast.
The other day I changed the sim card in my phone (because I had changed network) and an alarm started going off with a voice saying the phone had been stolen. I also got a text message saying my phone had been stolen, with a link to a map showing the location where the sim card had been changed.

Use the proper space for this kind of post. This is an Apps & Games only forum.

I've used Cerberus on pretty much every android I've used so far, even tablets. Served me well so far as can remotely lock, wipe, locate and take photos from the front camera on the device and lots of other things that makes it a really good security app too

One more point to Cerberus.

Thief App Prey

Hey Guys,
I am setting up the thief App "Prey" and it`s working quite well so far but I am wondering is there a way to make this app "impossible" to delete even via Wipe through CWM?
It has uninstall protection of course so you can`t uninstall it the easy way but if the thief flashes a new firmware the app will be gone and I would be screwed.

Yeah I already use it, it`s incredible what you can do with it. In my opinion a must have App for every phone, you can do so much stuff remotely with it, making photos with the front camera, lock the device, sent the destination to your browser etc etc etc. and of course all without the user getting notified about it. Only way to delete it is to flash a new Firmware. I guess make it "unremovable" is not possible though.

Warning - McAfee Mobile Security - Warning

This morning I got a notification from my McAfee Mobile Security app telling me it found a potential threat on my sd card. The notification led me to one of my CWM backup .tar files, so I dismissed the notification and told the app to take no action. I just decided to take another look at my backups and realized that McAfee had gutted every single one of my .tar files. The files are still there, just empty.
I've been using McAfee for over 6 months now with no problems. Must have been a recent update. Back to Lookout.....

That sucks. I hate how McAfee takes control even on the computer. I used them once on a new computer and had absolutely no control over anything it did so dumped it and never went back. I've been using NetQuin on my phone and ZoneAlarm on my computer.
Been using AVG myself since my annual sub to Lookout expired a few months back. It's been doing fine for me.
I am one of the few people that likes McAfee. I use the antivirus software and online backup on my computers and never had a problem of any kind. Made sense to me to try the mobile product. It worked great too until today.
I started using McAfee when I stopped using blur based roms since I wanted the ability to wipe remotely. Can you do that on either NetQuin or AVG. Lookout can do it, but that would be another $30.
I used avast for a while. You could give that a go. It was quite good, not very intrusive and doesn't have a noticeable effect on performance.
Since doing a factory reset on my phone I haven't bothered reinstalling it as I don't feel it's necessary for my needs.

I haven't seen remote wipe ability with AVG. The annual fee is why I stopped using Lookout.

NetQuin probably offers it for the premium service as well, but the free version does have an antitheft mode. If someone tries to change the sim card out then it notifies a number you select when setting it up. Also has online backup of contacts which is another feature I use alot in case google doesn't work between new roms.
Sounds like they are all the same (like most apps) - you get some features for free and you pay for the really good features. I'll be back on a blur based rom until official ICS comes out, so I'll just keep using the free version of Lookout.

Found thru firefox addons that remote locates, sounds alarm and wipes data FOR FREE. Called TrustGo and I'm using it now. So far so good, but obviously I haven't come across anything that sends a red flag. See if it will work for your needs. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trustgo.security

TrustGo is pretty solid and it came as an add-on for Dolphin HD. On top of security, I use to to save my caller logs/SMS/etc. to a cloud when switching between roms.

What upndwn4par said and also there are alot of malicious apps making their way to download, plus its good for web browsing on your phone. Facecrap is still known as being the easiest way to get viruses and most people use that on their phone daily. So its a good idea to have some sort of antivirus on your phone as you would your computer.

Backup and Format
Try to install antivirus and full scan if you face same problem Backup your Important data like contacts, notes etc complete wipe your phone
one thing I know for sure is that I have a large quantity of texts that I haven't sent. I've tried to get some legitimate logs but I keep having.difficulty. As for wiping my storage has been stuck as majority USB Mass Storage and I can't mount my external SD. I ran Dr. Web which didn't find anything except that my phone was rooted.
oh and for a split second when I opened GOsms to respond to a text I saw a whole bunch of animated emoticons floating around on the GOsms inbox screen. don't know if that means anything, but it freaked me out because I didn't intend for it to occur. and a large quantity of permissions and disk writing happened last night when I discovered this issue. Does Meta-INF mean anything?

As this is a messaging issue and go SMS is the app your using it is common sense to remove that first to test it out. Had many odd issues when i hhad used it and even brought it up in the apps thread with no good reply even though many had privacy concerns

Ohhh okay, I see what you mean now. Well I just did a complete wipe and reformat of all my phone storage, and external SD. So if I have another problem I'm gonna lose it. I used the Infuse Toolkit to do all this and used the failsafe ROM to ensure stock while maintaining root. Is there any error in all that I did? If not I'll just go ahead and do a Heimdall return to stock, then root process. Thank you all for the input though

[Q] Best "find my phone" app...

I've done some searching and there's a few apps that are generally recommended in threads like these (like Lookout and SeekMyDroid). But none of the apps mention whether or not you can find the phone using maps. I want to be able to go to the site for the app, sign in or enter my phone number, and have a map pop up displaying where the phone is. Do any apps do that?
I believe Cerberus does this.
Avast is an awesome security app with great tracking features. Best of all, its free. :good:
Seekdroid is my recommendation

Cerberus allows you to do much more than just track your phone. Remote wipe, remote lock, post a message on the screen, take photos (front and back cameras) record audio, and more. Give it a shot, it works great.
Avast! Mobile Security also offers a Theft monitoring service that you can set up as well. I have it and I highly recommend it. If you lose your device, you can have it preset to sound an alarm that you can activate from online so anyone in earshot of the device will hear it going off. Additionally, you can remotely wipe the device (it can even be done automatically in certain instances if you want it set that way). Best of all, it's FREE! Here is a link to it:

Lookout works pretty good as well.

Free up some memory till we get root

If anybody else is having issues running out of memory before we get root, here's what you can do.
Go to Settings>Apps, scroll to all, and see which ones you can Disable.
I haven't had any issues since I did that.
Also, ART has given me a lot of issues. If you don't know what it is then your fine.

Yeah, the Sprint stuff we're stuck with til we get root/unlock. If Sprint/LG stays true to form, we won't even be able to remove bloat until we get unlock.
I'm a minimalist as far as my phone, so I have very few apps and widgets. Im always modifying things to make stock better.
It amazes me though that we have 3gigs of memory and it easily goes down to 500mb. That's when I start having issues and why I posted this.
I don't even use FB or G+.
Can't wait for root/unlock to see what this phone is really capable of.

Actually I've gotta give it up to Sprint/lg for actually giving us the ability to remove about 95% of the bloat. The very few that I actually couldn't uninstall I just hid. May not be perfect, but an effort was made to allow us some control, and that's a great start. Hope to see more of this in the future. [emoji106]

I hadn't thought to run ART, but I decided to try it out. It's actually super smooth for me, no issues aside from Pandora, but I fixed that. No weird freezes or reboots like I had on my Note. The only thing that hangs slightly is Media Browser, but it's usable.
If only we had Xposed for ART. And root... good things come in time though.
I have been using an app for a few years now with some pretty good customization. Fast Reboot Pro. There is also a lite version. It works great for me. You can decide which apps it handles and if it will free memory when you unlock or lock your phone. Also a widget to free up memory when you need a quick boost, which is the way I use it.

I had no issues with ART for about 2 weeks. Then one night I went to sleep woke up and some apps as well as some games started to act very funny. They would load then crash out the Facebook app itself would hang forever and never work yet the night before everything was working fine. I went back to dalvik and I've had zero issues since that time. ART was nice minus the issues I had I would love to keep using it.
