On my adaway app, i can get to downloading the hostfiles but it always fails and hangs when it trys to apply the new host files. I am rooted and permissions are granted. Anyone have this issue or a solution?
Use a root enabled file explorer, go to /system/etc and change the permission of "hosts" to rw-rw-rw.
Reboot and try again.

I installed AdFree without issue. Might wanna try that if you can't get adaway going.

thanks! that worked perfectly.

It actually has nothing to do with permissions. It runs as root, so permissions are irrelevant.
The problem is with SuperSU's toast notifications. Set them to off for the AdAway app and it'll work right every time.

Ad away is much better,it it updated regularly.Just google ad away download:yes its also free.

Hi,
I've just flashed on my GT-P7510 tab the last ROM 4.0.4 from Russia, I've rooted my device. Because any reason when I try to disable any app from startup (system boot) list using both, System Tuner and Startup Cleaner, after 4 or 5 seconds since unchecking the corresponding app checkbox, it automatically check back again... Only System Tuner gives me the error message "Failed to disable event!"...
Of course, I'm root (I checked system tuner to have root permision) and I had not this problem on previous ROM (also 4.0.4).
Thanks in advance if anyone knows someting about this issue.
EDIT: I've just tried autostarts and same issue, the message given is "Unable to change the state of the selected component. Most likely, your device does not have root access, which is required", but previous this message, I saw the given permission message from superuser !! Also, I have overclocked the tab so, I'm root!!! Maybe half root ?¿?¿?¿?¿
Startup Auditor seems it works for me... but I think that, as startup manager, it kills the apps once they are started, instead of prevent the startup as System Turner, autostarts and startup cleaner...
It seems as my root process is not full done (?¿?¿)
SOLVED: I installed superSU and its su bin instead of using superuser and now root is full...

Kit kat has that bug, and tool updates should fix it in the future. While it happens, you can delete system apps easily by deleting its apk on system/app using any root file Explorer.

So, I can delete the apk, but cant stop one app from autostarting "after boot" strange bug!

There is no too much info about it. I thing it has to do with a new permission management for apps in kit Kat (there is some info about it on the Web), and tools still haven't been update to make full compatible with this KK "improvement", so i really don't think this is a KK bug as is.

Hi Guys, This is my first thread here. I'm new to Android and flashing custom ROM's. I've recently bought Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 (International version). I used Siyah kernel for Dual-Booting FoxHound along with Stock ROM. I really liked FoxHound because of improved performance, beats audio etc. I've decided to flash FoxHound as only ROM on my device but I fear that it will also remove the stock samsung apps which I really find useful.

Is there any way to get these apps on FoxHound? Sorry I couldn't find any similar post here that's why I'm asking
You could use root explorer, copy them to your sdcard and install on your new rom. Should work fine if they don't have any other dependancies.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
you need to copy them to /system/app
as long as it's a Sammy ROM, it should work
I tried that but when I copy SMemo files to system/apps using root explorer it says that the files are copied successfully but they don't... Any solution for this I guess it has something to do with the permissions

Still Not Working...
The SMemo.apk's permissions are (rw-rw-r) and to move it to system/apps the permissions should be (rw-r-r). When I change the permissions they still look unchanged...
Are you sure you've given root access to root explorer...try changing the permissions with chmod command.

I've edited their permission to rw--r--r (0644) but the apps says 'Changing Permissions was not successful. Please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes.'
Update: Thank you guys, I've figured it out and now its working. Can you please tell me After moving S Memo files to System/apps should i install them manually?

I was saying that launching the apk manually won't install it.
Try clearing its data and make sure it's from the same firmware version

I downloaded S Memo apk for 4.1.2 JellyBean from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969991 and that worked like charm. Thanks
I'm also looking for Stock Music Player, I downloaded apk from same link but it is not working. Again it gives a pop up saying 'Unfortunately Music player has stopped'. I tried clearing data several times but no luck. Any solution?

Hey guys,
So I wanted to try out Koush's new Superuser app and I flashed the zip that was in the description in the Play Store, but now how do I get rid of ChainFire's SuperSU? I am on the latest (1.5) CarbonRom.
Use a root explorer and go to /system/app and delete it

Yeah its not there. The superuser.apk you see there is the new one. SuperSU by Chainfire is definitely still on my device. Any chance that it is in a difference place since I am running an AOSP rom?
The zip you flashed is suppose to delete Chanfire's supersu for you

When I click on it, it opens and a popup comes up and says "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue ?" I didn't really want to do that so I went into Titanium and looked to uninstall and it wasn't in the app list.
So then I went back to the superSU, and I hit continue and SuperSU reinstalled (not sure if it technically 'reinstalled,' but thats just the best way I know how to describe it). So then I when into the settings and hit 'Clean up for another superuser app' or something like that. So then it did it's thing, but the app icon was still in my drawer. I clicked on it again and a little message came up that said "app is not installed" so then I restarted my phone hoping that the icon would disappear and it did!
Problem solved.

Where did you download this "gapps installer apk"?
Are you sure you got the right gapps for the right version of android?
Download them here
http://goo.im/gapps for Android 4.2.2, unzip the files and move them to the correct location with root explorer and set permissions as LordManhattan said
You do need to be rooted to install this because you need the framework and some other files to get things working. And I do not think the .apk file you downloaded can achieve root access by it self.

File commander is very limited and won't let you access any root folders. Root Explorer is the one I use but there are many. Navigate to the installed Google play apk, set permissions to rw-r-r. You'll understand more when you try it.

You must have root to modify system files, and in your case where you're trying to move a file into a system folder, you must have root.

First, did you gave access to storage permission to that app?
Then desactivate and reactivate root option in ES F.Expl.
After that, in superSu, it's OK for root access?
in superSU i can't grant or deny access to apps when the pop up appears, i think its something about overlay but cant figure out what

Are you using f.lux, Twilight or any other screen dimming/blue light filtering app?
Deactivate it and try the acess/deny thing again
Installation failed showing, any other super su for Oxygen 3.1.3
Regular TWRP and SuperSU zip
1. So does anyone know why modified versions of TWRP and SuperSU zip need to be used?
2. When can we expect to grab the respective files from their original websites to get busy? I imagine the problem is only with TWRP and not SuperSU? I want to use the pre-CCMT SuperSU.
Thanks!

no, i'm not using any of the kind of apps.
today i have found that i can't grant permission to access folders to G+ because of this screen overlay issue, i had to go to apps and find G+ and manually grant permissions to files
Strange.. In my case I only get this screen overlay issue when I have smth like Twilight enabled..

I believe at some point an official twrp will be launched, that will support OOS 3.1.3. We just have to wait.
