You should be able to, if s-off just connect the phone and run the ruu, if s-on relock bootloader, connect the phone and run the ruu

Excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't that require the RUU file?

sorry for that I misread your original post, I believe to take an ota you need to have the stock recovery, you should be able to find the ruu file for the ota, is there a specific reason why you only plan to update to 3.17? The 4.13.651.4 ruu is available, granted it does wipe internal storage but it changes the data partition so you in the end have more internal storage and Android 4.3 sense 5 is amazing, my phone runs great now, no glitching or freezing on me. Just food for thought.

I'm assuming he's doing it from stock (before the newer RUU, that is) to apply the fix. There wasn't a Heartbleed bug when the 4.13 RUU was compiled. Now if there was a way to extract the revised files to use on the latter RUU, we'd be onto something.

I can't run the ruu on my wife's phone because the usb port is skewed up and only will charge, will not stay connected to the computer.
And my brother is to lazy to transfer is internal storage to the computer, he is soff, so I was wondering if he flashed the stock recovery if he could install the update with no issues

[Q] Upgrade from 2.3 to 4.0?

My HTC Rezound was upgraded soon after I got it, I did whatever was necessary (don't remember exactly) to install CleanRom 4.5 (I think), which is definitely android 2.3.
Obviously, I missed the OTA Update due to CleanRom. How can I upgrade to 4.0? I understood how to do everything 6 months ago, unfortunately now I have no idea. Thank you in advance for your help!
Are you "S-Off"? If not, make this your first priority. Then you can flash back and forth between roms with the greatest of ease. Then flash the latest RUU

Like I said, I'm not entirely sure. I do remember an extended process on my old windows laptop. Is there an easy way to determine whether I have S-off?

Reboot into bootloader (hold power+vol down) the bootloader screen will tell you
Also, post the radio version numbers here, that will also tell us what firmware you are on (2.3 or 4.0)
I'd you are on gb firmware still, you will need to run the ics ota RUU. Do a search for it, it is an easy process

It said S-On, so I guess I didn't S-OFF previously. Does this mean I have to wipe to install a new OS if I don't S-OFF?
In "About Phone"->"Software Information", it says
Android Version 2.3.4.
Software number CleanROM GBE 1.6
Kernel Version 2.6.35.13-gf1931dc
Baseband Version 0.95.00.1118r, 0.95.00.1223r
Build number 2.01.605.11 CL252791
Hoping one of the above is the number you were looking for.
Also - thank you for the help. I'm reading threads about SOFF right now, and poking around the RUU link provided.

Yep that's what I needed, so just run that ruu, it will wipe everything except your external sd so do what's necessary to avoid losing data (do a back up of your apps and text messages and whatnot) the app I use for this is Gobackup from Google play.
After that you just need to re flash a recovery and then an ics rom of your choice. S off is not necessary, it just makes flashing kernels require one less step

Awesome, I may actually just leave it for a bit if possible, after installing I will just be the exact same as if I hadn't rooted and downloaded the OTA update right? Thanks again for the help, I'm actually upgrading in hopes of getting some better battery life.

Sweet, will look into those after a week or so with the stock one so i can appreciate it.
I actually did have to re-lock the bootloader, I downloaded fastboot tools and used the console.
After that, just threw the ruu zip on my flash drive, renamed it, and was all set. Thanks again for the assistance!

You got a red triangle when trying to boot normally? That's Ok, I'm asking you to boot into bootloader by doing this :
1) pull battery out and reinsert
2) start device by holding volume down+power buttons until a white screen appears with some info on it.
If you get that screen your not bricked, and you can go ahead and put the RUU on the sd card using your computer and an sd card reader

What do I do after S-off

I have a newer T-Mobile HTC One that came with the 1.27.531.11 rom that could not achieve s-off but was able to flash the 1.27.531.8 T-Mobile rom and then use the all-in-one toolkit to get s-off. Right after this I flashed a revolution rom but didn't get the ota update back to .11 (which I should have done first). It took several hours to load files back onto the internal sd because there is no way to send the files using mass storage. Is there a way to go from my revolution rom back to stock tmobile so I can get the OTA update without losing my internal sd files? Or is there any other way to update without losing my data? Or is there a faster way of transferring backup data from my pc?

125 views, and no replies. Your question is all confusing that's probably why. The title has one question then you have a million other questions.
You should be able to just flash the latest update from t-mobile
Also file should not take hours to transfer from your PC to your phone

Return to Stock 4.2.2?

Happy New Years Everyone.
I am doing a warranty return on my HTC DNA. The DNA is rooted with Moonshine S-Off; HBOOT - 1.33.4444; RADIO - 1.01.04.0300; ROM - Viper DNA.
I have searched but found nothing that outlines the restore to stock for the 4.2.2 upgrade. I know I will have to restore the stock ROM and the stock bootloader and put the device back to S-On.
Can someone please share their process to return to Verizon Stock.
Thanks in advance.
Eduardo
I have found the following thread and will give it a try. I will updated later when the process is complete.

Great. I'm going to try the process tomorrow. Can you tell me if it completely wipes the phone. I don't want to have to clean it up before sending it back.
I've enjoyed the phone but it has been giving me lots of troubles with the SIM card and losing connectivity. I'm moving to the LG G2 and going to give it a shot.

It will wipe everything and your phone will be like it was out if the box. For the sim card errors you can call htc and they will ship you a new sim tray for free and it's thicker and will not give you any errors. I did it and have not had an error since putting it in.

Just word of advise j wouldnt run stock ruu. If I were you is just run the 3.04 ruu which if u follow the steps will give u s on bootkoader locked and Ur device will b on current update. Verizon doesn't require you phone to bone stock

Update:
I was able to get my phone back to 4.1.2 Stock using the instructions from post #2. I didn't bother configuring or updating the phone. It has already been packaged and ready to go back to VZW.
I did run in to some issues that required me to do a little more reading.
First I had to restore 1.15 bootloader and splash screen (post #4 in the above referenced thread). This was a little scary as there is a warning during boot up about being the engineering boot loader version and *** Tampered*** and ***Locked*** warning at top of boot loader screen. This is OK keep moving forward with the process.
Also to get the RUU executable to work correctly, reboot the phone into the bootloader and plug phone into computer. With out this step, I was getting and unkown error and update fails.
Peace.
I did this a few weeks ago (following the guide linked above), the only hiccup I hit was the 1.15 RUU failing (error 155). I was on a Sense 5 ROM (NOS) and apparently that was causing the RUU to see the wrong version number of my phone and say it wasn't compatible. I flashed a Sense 4 ROM and everything worked from there.

Personally I wouldn't use the DNA toolkit. There's a link in torrented signature that has everything you need .. hboot. Radio's. I think recoverys. Bookmark it.
Have you tried to Ruu I'm not sure if that will effect the sd card or not. That is if you have fastboot working

Help flashing RUU

Hello, I just bought a used AT&T M8 and am trying to convert it back to sense. Im not familiar with messing with HTCs. I see in hboot that it is unlocked and s-off. It looks like they put pure google on it. Ive been looking and seeing different instructionson gett phone back to stock but they seem scattered. I saw and tried running official ruu for 1.58 found in another thread but only get to the point where it tries to reboot into boot loader and then it says it cant and to find a ruu compatible with my device. I cant tell what custom recovery it has. Everytime in hboot when i choose recovery it just hangs and says bad command. Can somebody tell me instructions on how to run this ruu?

In your boot loader, what os does it say you have? We need to know if they did a true gpe conversion or just a rom. Does it have 3 android guys on skateboards or something else?

You are on an gpe conversion and cannot flash sense roms. You need to follow this guide to get back to sense
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523
Make sure you change your cid to 11111111 before doing anything, it says to do this in the guide, but just saying

I know you solved your issue another way. But just so you know (and others, too) an RUU does not typically require stock recovery; while OTA does require stock recovery (probably the reason for the confusion).
Thanks. I ended up just flashing the RUU yesterday with stock rooted Rom and TWRP. This is why I love XDA. I was able to buy a M8 pretty cheap and thanks to people here, I was able to get it going.?
