My HTC Rezound was upgraded soon after I got it, I did whatever was necessary (don't remember exactly) to install CleanRom 4.5 (I think), which is definitely android 2.3.
Obviously, I missed the OTA Update due to CleanRom. How can I upgrade to 4.0? I understood how to do everything 6 months ago, unfortunately now I have no idea. Thank you in advance for your help!
Are you "S-Off"? If not, make this your first priority. Then you can flash back and forth between roms with the greatest of ease. Then flash the latest RUU

Reboot into bootloader (hold power+vol down) the bootloader screen will tell you
Also, post the radio version numbers here, that will also tell us what firmware you are on (2.3 or 4.0)
I'd you are on gb firmware still, you will need to run the ics ota RUU. Do a search for it, it is an easy process

It said S-On, so I guess I didn't S-OFF previously. Does this mean I have to wipe to install a new OS if I don't S-OFF?
In "About Phone"->"Software Information", it says
Android Version 2.3.4.
Software number CleanROM GBE 1.6
Kernel Version 2.6.35.13-gf1931dc
Baseband Version 0.95.00.1118r, 0.95.00.1223r
Build number 2.01.605.11 CL252791
Hoping one of the above is the number you were looking for.
Also - thank you for the help. I'm reading threads about SOFF right now, and poking around the RUU link provided.

Yep that's what I needed, so just run that ruu, it will wipe everything except your external sd so do what's necessary to avoid losing data (do a back up of your apps and text messages and whatnot) the app I use for this is Gobackup from Google play.
After that you just need to re flash a recovery and then an ics rom of your choice. S off is not necessary, it just makes flashing kernels require one less step

You got a red triangle when trying to boot normally? That's Ok, I'm asking you to boot into bootloader by doing this :
1) pull battery out and reinsert
2) start device by holding volume down+power buttons until a white screen appears with some info on it.
If you get that screen your not bricked, and you can go ahead and put the RUU on the sd card using your computer and an sd card reader

Can i just htcdev LOCK then flash the ruu renamed as PH98IMG.zip to get back to stock?
You can do that cause I think ruu is different than just flashing stock. I had an og evo and I flashed the stock and I still had s-off so best advice make sure there is an s-on utility for ur device then use the ruu to return to stock

That will work fine. You can also relock then run the RUU on a windows PC, but pretty much the same thing will be accomplished.
i flashed back to gb then did waht i stated in the op and all it did was lock me in the bootloader and now my phone is stuck no matter what it do.

I'm no expert but I think (if you made a Nandroid) you can extract the boot.img from the Nandroid then flash it and restore your stock Backup. I would also wipe / factory reset in recovery.
If you don't have a Nandroid backup you can download the RUU or a boot.img from a Rom like Scott's GB ROM and use one of those after you extract the boot.img.
I just did this today, I first flashed back to a gingerbread rom, then i unzipped the ruu and took the boot_signed.img from it, renamed it to boot than flashed it from fastboot. Then I put the ruu zip on my memory card (renamed it to ph98img) and fastboot OEM locked the device. I then rebooted the bootloader and applied the update.

I got it from scottsroms.com, I just downloaded the zip file in the ruu section, as for reverting back to a gingerbread Rom, I'm sure anyone of them would work (scotts clean rom has always done me well). I only say that because once you flash the boot image, your ics rom won't boot, so you can't place the ruu on the memory card, unless you have another way to mount your sd card to the computer (i.e. adapter, or another phone)

I believe all you have to do is pick the rom you want, install it and your good. The majority of them automatically takes you to hboot to flash the kernal, but not all of them, so make sure you read the instructions before you flash.

I wondered this as well. Most csr's don't seem to be as knowledgeable as the people here on xda. They also don't seem to have a lot of knowledge on particular devices besides the obvious specs. I really don't think anyone is going to boot into fastboot to see it's been relocked, or even know what that means.

I just spoke with a Verizon tech on the phone last night, he told me that simply unlocking the phone would NOT void the warranty considering HTC is allowing it via their website. However he did say that any rooting/roms would void it immediately (if they can detect it of course).
So basically just put it back to stock and you are good?

Recently acquired a Rezound in unknown, but not working condition. Previous owner said he tried to put a ROM on it, and it didn't work. He said it worked prior to the failed mod, and he's not a stranger, so I believe him.
All the original packaging and hardware are here. I don't think there is any hardware damage, everything looks visually ok. Does not appear to be the original SD card, it's only 8 gb.
The battery has power, and when I turn it on, I get the white HTC screen for at least 20 minutes.
I'm not a complete noob, I have successfully done a lot of mods to my old Eris, but this Rezound is a different animal. How do I proceed?
I tried to fix this earlier, and had to set it aside. Now I'm trying again.
Boot into hboot (google it if you don't know) and tell us the hboot version. If you can see the white htc screen the phone software can be fixed relatively painlessly.

Did you wipe data a few times before installing CleanROM?
"A few times"? No. I just did it once.
Update:
I added the GB firmware update, and followed the instructions for Method 4 at:
http://www.scottsroms.com/content.php/153-Rezound-CleanROM-Developer-Edition-1-4-is-now-out!
I downloaded his files, including the PH98IMG.zip, and also flashed that per the instructions.
Do I need to wipe multiple times?
as a heads up, I did get a warning in the Fastboot that said the battery voltage was low. Could that be the source of my headaches?
Personally the best thing to do IMHO is to flash the RUU and start over. See if that boots. If it doesn't then you have a other problems.
Also. If you try reflashing in recovery wipe data, boot and system.
Flash that Rom, gb patch, then reboot to bootloader and flash the ph98img.

Yes where Scott says full RUU. Follow that to a T.
It really sounds like a kernel issues, but to be on the safe side. Sometimes you just have to ruu regardless cause something got messed up that wiping in recovery can't fix.
If it boots after RUU, reunlock, s-off and be a happy camper. If you get it to boot after ruu and need more help just PM me or repost in this thread.

So I just took the OTA from Sprint the other day, re-unlocked the HTCDEV way, and tried flashing a ROM, but kept getting bootloops. I think it has something to do with the fact that the ROM had a 2.17 base and now I have the 2.89 base. Is there any way to either revert back to 2.17 or am I kinda stuck where I'm at. Help please
Downgrade your bootloader using unknownforce's method. I had the same issue and it worked for me. I'm now back on 1.4 S-OFF instead of 1.58 Unlocked. Its very easy to do, and it negates the need for HTCDEV Unlock method.. just to be clear, I don't believe you can flash anything lower than what you currently have when it comes to firmware especially when you are S-ON since you cant write to those particular partitions where the kernel hboot etc etc are located.

Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
IDK why you want to revert a previous and worse FW than actual. Why not flash a 2.89 Based ROM and problem gone? Just wait some days until devs make compatible the roms with latest base.
I have a 2.89 rom right now, but I've always loved certain aspects of Sense 3 and Sense 3.5 and I want to be able to try different roms to find the one I'm satisfied with, and since there's only 3 2.89 roms right now, all of them S3.6 I want to be able to go back to previous versions because S3.6 isn't my cup of tea
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
If you wanted that only you had to do was run 2.17 RUU and after that just Unlock it again and root. With 4ext after you ran the full RUU and unlocked with HTC Dev you can run GB and ICS Roms.
I tried that, the bootloader version doesn't work with the RUU
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Yes i know that, I was saying before you upgraded to 2.89 FW and as far as i know there is no way to go back or run something made on a previous version for the base.
I kinda figured, I'm probably just gonna wait for the RUU for 2.89 comes out that way I can relock, run the ruu to get rid of the security warning, and downgrade to 1.40 and get s-off that way
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app

Like I said, I did not try the wire trick LOL I prefer Unknown's simply because it was the only one available when I tried it. Phone's have a mind of their own IMHO LOL Well what you will need is the PG86IMG.zip for THAT particular part, then the 1.13 .exe file (which you can find anywhere!) thats the key part. Why do you think you need the RUU for 2.89? you can find the PG86IMG.zip file somewhere in the Dev section. replace the 2.17 zip file that most of us used to do it for the 2.89 .zip file and you're golden! As long as you can put it into EMMC recover mode, which you should be able to do so with the full ROM.zip file found in the Dev Section, just substitute 2.89 for 2.17 hope that helps man
Well from what I read, you need to flash the stock, unrooted OHHHHH wait just had an epiphany, I think I know what to do now, the only reason I thought you need the ruu was because in the video that shows you the bricking process, he said you need to run the ruu to remove the security flag so the pg86100.zip p****s

So my dumb a** accept the OTA, and now I'm hboot 1.58, SO, I figured I'd try to htc unlock and all that jazz, Which worked all up until install superuser.
CWM recovery would say installation complete but when I used Rootchecker or tried to use a root app just to try and get the prompt to see if I was rooted it was concluded that I wasn't, I Flashed SU 2.3.6.3 signed many many times hoping it would stick, But it didn't. So I got ballzy and tried to flash a (rooted) rom thinking that maybe it would go thourgh, But it didn't, So now I'm stuck on a splashscreen innevitably.
I'm about to try to flash meanrom with the new 2.89 base and maybe that'll boot, It's taking forever to download though, Anyone have some suggestions?? in case this rom doesn't work??
I feel like I need HTC to release the 2.89 RUU and I'll be gravy, Is this my only hope though??

I am running the rooted version of the Global stock ROM. I have made no changes to radios or Hboot. I am running S-off. Reason I am asking, I have the 3.14 RUU, and when I try to download, it keeps saying service unavailable, yet I can be on WiFi or in a 4G area with 4 bars and it still says it. If I could find a way to make the phone run the OTA update from the 3.14 RUU, it wouldn't be a problem, however, I want to take it back to stock, without hard bricking it.

4 of the mirrors are broken, and the first one when I try it stops downloading after 5% saying it is unsuccessful

Flash it a second time... You have the full RUU zip file, correct? Did you verify the MD5 sum of the file? And You have an active acct with Verizon?

I had this same problem... I have the link on my desktop. I'll try to remember to send it to you in the am.

Just out of curiosity are sure you running the RUU for 3.14.605.12? There were several leaks of similar versions and IIRC, you have to be on the exact bloated version that Verizon was using to get the OTA update to 4.05.605.14. If you need the shipped one, you can download it from here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vigor It has both the .zip version along with the .exe version which is the true RUU way of doing it (phone must be connected to computer by data usb cable and the program run on your computer). As long as you are still S-off, you should have no issue doing the 3.14.605.12, get the OTA updates, and then S-on if you wish to.
ETA: I have used the downloads from the link I provided to do this on several different phones and it worked for me. And the download usually runs pretty quick even though it is a 604mb file. I did see on the other thread that a link was provided for a similar download but that said it was a 598mb size and that may/may not be a clue that it might be the wrong version.

To confirm, are you s-on or s-off, and what exactly is the rom version? there is a small ota that came between the 3.14.605.12 and the 4.05.605.14. That ota is 3.14.605.13.
Also, are you on pure stock? stock recovery and all? If so, and you are already on 3.14.605.13, you can load this from the stock recovery (otapkg.zip for 4.05.605.14):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40757466&postcount=19
If you are on 3.14.605.12, you need to load this from stock recovery first:
http://www.wizwire.net/vigor/OTAPkg-3.14.605.13.zip
Drop the OTA file(s) onto your root sd card, power off, hold vol dn + power for several seconds to get you into hboot. Select recovery from the menu.
-Wait for stock recovery to boot (wait for red triangle with explanation point), once loaded, volume up button + power button will bring up stock recovery menu
-Use volume buttons to scroll, power button to select load zip from file to load the otapkg.zip's.

Let me know if you have any trouble!
I have an HTC rezound that was unlocked and rooted by HTC dev method. It has the 2.28.0000 hboot and every ruu I find and try to use tells me hboot failed because mine is to new. I have searched for 2 days on this subject and the reason I am returning to stock is because I can't get into diag mode to flash to cricket. When I enter ##diag it says no network. ##program does nothing either. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

All ruu's posted here dont work....pm me...i have all the needed files...and i'll guide you through this....your big error that your doing is your going to need to relock the bootloader before doing anything...leaving it unlocked will cause a soft brick
I already relocked the bootloader and it still failed. I am not a total noob flashed lots of radios, hboots, built sense ROMs. This one has me stumped though.

So, the OP cannot do the full RUU thing.
Can't he just do a factory reset and then boot to one of the custom recoveries and re-flash the latest OTA?
cheers,
john
No op's links have broken software...I have the needed files on my dropbox and media fire account...and no all factory reset does is wipe all data and setting for ROM...and may cause custom ROMs to not boot...ota is only achievable if on stock ROM and there is an update...however I have all those proper files too

Got it.
One last question, though, since I'm not that savvy...

...I didn't upgrade to the latest OTA from a previous OTA---I was on the Global Leak---and I installed the ROM found here with absolutely no problems after manually upgrading the firmware to the latest, which is what the OP is on. Fwiw, that ROM still appears to be available via the link in Post 1 of that thread.
cheers,
john

that isnt a pure stock ota bud...thats a rom made with includes from it and rooted
This might sound stupid, but your objective here really is to get stockish, correct? With your HBoot you could use this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260154
Just make sure to flash boot.img afterwards via fastboot. This is as close to pure stock (only root added) as you can get without S-Off or other trickery. It should suffice for the requirements of the OP.

I've been trying to deal with this problem over in the liquidsmooth thread, but it's clear now that my problems are not related specifically to the rom and that thread isn't really the place for it.
I've lost all cell connectivity. Calls, texts, data, everything. The liquid rom had been working for me for over a week. I've reverted to previous roms both with new flashes and using restore files. I've tried a different recovery. Every time, it acts like I don't have a sim card.
I was suspecting that my sim might be bad, but back on the liquidsmooth thread, it was suggested that I need to RUU back to stock and start over. I'd be willing to do that except the only way suggested was really complicated. I'm S-on and it included ubuntu and the wire trick to get s-off, which I'm hesitant to do. I searched and found another thread with instructions to run an RUU while still s-on, and it seems like it would have worked except that my hboot is newer than the RUU used, and I've been unable to find a newer one.
I tried flashing the stock rom above and flashing the stock recovery that I had from when I first rooted several months ago. It still thinks I don't have a sim card, but otherwise it booted fine until I re-locked to bootloader. Then it wouldn't boot anymore. I guess it still knows that those versions of hboot, the recovery, and the rom don't quite go together.
Is there an RUU that will work with hboot 2.28 to "un-root" my phone without downloading a second operating system and performing surgery on my phone? Are the correct stock rom and recovery out there that I can flash and re-lock? Is there a way to know if that is actually the problem if if it is just my sim card? Are there any other ideas to get my phone functioning again?
Please help!

There is no RUU for your hboot, need to s-off...
If your SIM is bad, get a new one from Verizon.
Also, is the battery cover on?

On that note... Are using a stock battery cover? Some aftermarket ones are questionable at best. Also, try another SIM, Verizon will replace it free.

I tried using a friend's good sim card and it didn't work. Yes, I'm using the stock battery cover. I guess I'll have to do s-off so I can RUU back to stock.
Ugh . . . This has become so much more than I ever intended to get myself into

You didn't answer my question, is it on the phone while you're testing your connection. Dumb question I know, antenna's are in it though and I've caught people leaving it off and not getting a signal then wondering why...

Sorry, I missed that part of the question. We did it pretty quick, but I think I did put the battery cover. Also, it's not just getting no signal, there is an icon in the notification bar and a big message on the lock screen says I have no sim card at all. That has never happened before, even with the battery cover off. As I look back I realize I failed to mention that important detail. I guess it still couldn't hurt to try a brand new sim card before taking the plunge into s-off. Even if that isn't the problem, at least I'll know for sure, and as you pointed out, its easy and free.
