hi guys ... did anyone notice the gap in Xperia z2 ?? I worry a little bet about it :crying: if it's normal or not !!?
I have just seen this on mine. Bottom left of handset..
Does this affect the waterproofing?
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Anyone worried about the gap can take it to a Sony service centre to have the waterproofing tested, If it's that bad it is really noticeable, you can try returning it for an exchange.

It seems like handsets made in Taiwan have the gap issue. The ones made in china don't have the gap issue. Can you guys check where your handset was made? it should say on box next to the imei number.
Mines made in china and doesn't have the gap issue.
It must have been a dodge batch at the Sony Taiwan factory.
Mine is made in china, no gap issue. Preordered from amazon germany.
China, no gap.

If you watch a z2 teardown you'll see how the slightly wonky glass won't affect waterproofing. The glass is glued to a lip, it shouldn't make any difference if it's not aligned perfectly. I'd be more concerned about the glue not having gaps in it
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Have tested my phone a couple of times now with no issues, the gap really is tiny...
Sony Mobile Singapore’s official statement on Xperia Z2 gap issue:
“We are aware of some users’ concern on the waterproofing capability of the Xperia Z2 due to the presence of gap(s) and are currently looking into this issue. In the meantime, users who wish to [sic] may bring their Xperia Z2 to any service center to have our staff conduct a water resistant test.”

That's not bad I've been tempted to do something with mine, like buy a new white back to sand and paint after I saw someone with a tiny black triforce on the corner of theirs.

When doing anything like this, take things apart! This is just a battery cover and they can be bought easy online. It's going to be hours a day before its usable anyway so do this to a spare.
If the solvents used don't agree with the plastic (I've spilt acetone when doing nails before) then you've ruined a spare cover
Good idea! That look so cool.
Make a pretty nice looking cover that....
I bought blue cover for my white Sk17i
it's look very pretty and I find the texture better than the white cover
May I ask where you can buy an official new black back cover? Mine is pretty beat up right now...
love the white backcover-adv no scratches and it looks new always
I found a new stock battery cover on ebay for about $17.
Mine in the first post is a genuine black one from ebay. Only £4.95.

Hi! I'm using a white non-LTE Xperia Z Ultra. Today I happened to mess up the aluminium frame when I was sitting in the chair playing game on my PC. My Xperia Z Ultra slipped out of my pocket and hit the floor! It managed to scratch/peel off the paint on the aluminium frame at the edge. How do I fix this? Please help!

if you are really bothered with the paint going off you can go to a local store and have them match the colour. Sand down the surface, clean, mask of the other areas and paint

I'm pretty sure I've read about the full frame made of aluminium. But then I read that the aluminium is covered with paint (I guess to have the same colour on every single device).

The top and bottom is a plastic otherwise there would be issues with the antennas getting shielded off. The sides seems to be powdercoated while the top and bottom perhaps is laminated as you do when you print labels on to plastic boxes. Melting a piece of plastic onto the surface.

Well, the graphic isn't indeed that clear...
It says "side panels", not specifying which sides... it may refer to every side, since top and bottom are sides too...
Extract from an early interview on Z Ultra design:
So I guess they say "sides" and actually mean "ALL sides", which makes sense, as with the word "sides", if not specified, you 99% mean all of them...
So it may be all aluminium and all covered with paint...

Hey everyone, there is an on-going deal in my country to get Z Ultra for couple days more at the price of 400 euro. The design and the hardware of the phone looks amazing literally drooling. But im concerned about the touch screen issues i read here, i currently own a Zopo C2 chinese brand and gives me headaches everytime im about to use just because the touch scr een is awful has phantom touches and shaking issue when you press-and-hold, it even goes crazy when you scroll up and down it scrolls very fast to the top or bottom of the page.
So i read there was few ROM updates about the touchscreen the last couple months and now a new KitKat update is on the way.
1) Does touch screen problems affect every single device( factory fault) or just few?
2) From your experience after those updates is the touchscreen completely fixed?
3) Does the screen break easily since its so big or is as tough as having a 5inch with gorilla glass?
4) I kinda hate the look of Xperia ROMs , it is possible to unlock bootloader/root and install custom recovery/custom ROMs atm? Or is it at least expected to get some ROM developing in the future?
Thanks, i kinda need some answers soon since the deal will go off in 1-2 days and the device originally costs 500-550 euros.
Hi!
1) I had phantom touches on an earlier firmware, but Sony fixed it in a later firmware. I've seen one or two guys here that still has phantom touches though, so i would say that it's pretty much fixed.
2) Yes.
3) I haven't read about anyone that has broken their screens, but it's a 6.4" screen after all, so it might break if it hits the ground.
4) Yes, you can unlock the bootloader, install Recovery and flash custom ROMs. As you might have picked up yesterday, Sony released the Z Ultra Google Play Edition. This will allow us to use the stock Kit Kat build from that one and "convert" our Ultras to Google Play Edition devices
I dropped mine on to concrete without any protection more then screen protector front and back. It landed on a corner and peeled off the silver but not a single scratch or crack on both sides.
It's built to make it I believe...

No, I haven't submerged it yet, but after 1 week I bought it I ran a 14Km trail running race and rain started mid course. So double moisture: from me and from the rain. I also used it during the race to take some pictures and shoot some videos, like a race vlog
This is exactly the scenario I bought it for and it passed.

I've run it under the tap and made a call from the shower. The shower isn't the best because the water on the screen is like touching it, it opens apps etc. I'll be using it in the pool for sure in summer.

Yes. And was under constant splashing and dunking underwater. Fine and ports were kept dry. Make sure to rinse out the headphone jack though. I posted a while back regarding the headphone not working. Someone said to flush it out with water and I did. Works great
