I just want to root it to fix the gps issues and no more, simply as I am on holiday and have to find a hotel tomorrow which is miles from the train station so want to know how to get there quickest lol, I saw some people recommending Vroot and others saying avoid it as it collects info.
Thanks in advance for any help

Brand newbie here trying to get temp root to get wifi tether working.
I've tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151853&page=2 and it says exploit failed and dumps me to a $ prompt.
I'm totally lost and would love it if someone could skype/gmail chat or whatever in realtime and WALK me though it STEP BY STEP!
Anyone game?
Email for google chat is bpollina @gmail.com or skype is bpollina . \\
I don't want a lot of advice to try this and that so I spend all night trying things. I want someone to walk me through it step by step.
Wish I could pay someone, but $$ is too tight right now. I will give credit to anyone who does here publically though.
ACTUALLY, I HAVE A GREAT IDEA. This site needs a way to do instant communication like fbchat and stuff like that. That would really be a great tool! But sorry, can't help you out. bedtime in 10 minutes and I'm about to pass out.
did you download the new one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563342
ALSO TRY ANOTHER COMPUTER! trust me on that one! if you have one.
I've got an LG Optimus T (T-Mobile Optimus One) that's fully bricked and I can't find anyone in the area to assist saving this device. I contacted several of the cell phone ripoff shops here in town and they all say they "know a guy that can do it but doesn't work for us" but they won't put me in direct contact with this so-called genius and I'm stuck for a solution.
Also... I was kinda hoping someone might be able to help for no charge - I honestly don't have the cash to save this phone but I can't afford another one either. If I had the cash I'd just get another phone, duh, but I'm between a rock and a hard place so, figured I'd ask and see what happens. I know people expect hard cash for most everything these days, but I could use a break and it'll be good Karma back on you if you can help.
It's the only Android phone I have and I'd love to get it functional once more.
Mods: I couldn't think of any other place to ask the question so, if this is off-limits or going against any rules (that I'm not presently aware of) feel free to delete it outright instead of just locking it.
Contact me by PM if you're able to help, and my Wife and I appreciate any assistance possible.
Is this the only option someone has to return to 4.1.2? I received a replacement phone via ASSurion and sadly, it came with 4.3. I miss my GN3 Custom ROM / Lack of Bloatware / freely changeable GUI.
This MOBILETECHVIDEOs solution seems to be offering a service for $75 to downgrade seems like a waste of money to me -- especially for a service that has been offered for free for so much time. I have supported (donated) to devs in the past, but this doesn't seem like a worthwhile use of money.
1) Can anyone comment on the service provided? (I read mixed reviews, that you do not actually get rid of the 4.3 bootloader, just navigate around it to install custom recovery / ROM)
2) Is it common knowledge that devs are working on a fix for this? I don't want to be the guy to throw $75 away, only for a free DIY fix to come out in a few weeks.
Thanks
AB
There are quite a few threads and comments about this. You can read some of the stuff from this thread here first.

MobileTechVideos does have a great reputation around XDA the internet and their YouTube channel so it's safe to say it is legitimate and trustworthy. They're very well known for their un brick services. Hope this helped.

Thanks!!
I am guessing 4.3 fix isn't really pursued much now? This OTA came out months ago..
I guess I'll just chalk it up and go through them. Thanks
So I have finally given in and been assimilated by the Borg collective (or have I gone to the dark side of the force???) and bought my teenaged daughter her 1st cellphone. I haven't given it to her yet because I am trying to set it up so that I can track/monitor it and her. Is there a way I can hide apps from her & her mother (non-custodial parent), so that my tracking apps won't be changed or deleted? For example, I have Lookout installed on it, abut according to them, they don't offer a way of hiding it. With that said, I don't want her/her mother/her friends seeing it and figuring out how to delete/bypass it.
Sometimes the apps drawer will have the simple option of hiding it from there, but to completely hide it would be trickier.

look at your own, you will probably be surprised
First things first. Do not post guides, apps or links to things that are illegal. This will get you banned without warning.
Now for the threads OP. You will not find any help here on this. As doing so is illegal in many countries in the world and as such is not allowed here.
Now I will give you some advise. From one parent to another. You can take it or leave it. Trust is not easy but it has to be earned on both parts. If you do install them and she finds out then it will not be pretty. Not to mention that if found by the wrong person can cause some major legal troubles. So the best that you can do is that if she has gotten to the point of you trusting her with a cell phone then it is time to trust her to use it properly. (Be honest with yourself at this point. I mean really honest. Kids will be kids and do the same thing we did when we were young. You cant stop it.) I found this out the hard way when my Twins got their first cell phone and I am an over protective parent, mainly when the internet is concerned. They are still kinda mad about it and went out and got their own cell phones so that it couldnt be monitored. So keep your eyes open, but dont take it over board. As I said this is just my advise and not the view of anyone other then my own.
You wont be able to install apps that wont ever be found. Most will be removed with a simple factory reset. Any that wont need root but with root they can be removed and flashing the device will remove them as well.

im totally new here, and you guys seem to know all the best apps... am i looking for the impossible...?
heres what im looking for...
i travel alot, and ive become very reliant on Google Maps getting me around. sometimes its long distances.
im looking for an app, or an "add-on" (?) that can have Google Maps running, and then i say "Ok Google, find me the nearest gas station". and without me touching anything, it finds one, and reroutes me automatically, and gives me directions how to get there. no poking around the maps finding one i "like", then poking some more to get there... im driving, ive got my Maps going, and im about to run out of gas. i cant be bothered grabbing my phone, cancel my destination, typing in "gas stations", then poking one i want to go too, and poke a few more times to get it to route me there, all while going 80 down the highway, steering with my knees behind a semi truck with a full load of live pigs... i just need to get to a gas station asap. and if i miss the exit, it finds the next nearest... and so on...
"OK Google" gets the phones attention, but it doesnt seem to integrate with its own Map program, or know that im running it, and what im asking for is the CLOSEST gas station, and to be routed there, all the while, still keeping my original destination in-tact.
anybody ever run into anything that could do all this?
any help would be MOST welcome! and worth every penny if it worked!
thanx!

In my opinion, the following is best one (that's my go to app) and may be what you're looking for.

I peasonnaly use waze it has all features that you are looking for
Waze app is the best variant. This app also allows you to learn gas prices. The phone will show you how to get faster to the place where you are going, will notify about traffic jams or accidents on the road.
