My Xperia S recently took a fall, nothing actually seems damaged though, but now the phone will not boot and is constantly stuck in a bootloop. This was on stock ROM and was looping on the Xperia logo, did a repair via Sony software and no joy. Have now installed CM9 and still looping on the logo. It boots in to recovery fine and I can also mount the USB. Is there anything that may be damaged thats not so obvious to stop this from booting up?

As far as i know, you cannot corrupt data on a phone by dropping it. Of course you can defect parts of the device however, so i don't think this would be involved in the bootloop. Have you tried factory reset? Have you tried to flash a custom kernel / and or ROM?

Yeah given that's it's flash memory I didnt think I could break it. Have tried CM9 as mentioned in the OP and still stuck, have just formatted the SD card as well and will see if that helps, just flashing again now.

Just CM9? Try Xcream, or another stock ROM. Let me know the results :victory:

Almost worked, it got further than most, got past the boot logo and loaded in to the Android is updating applications, where it just hung there instead. Have tried rebooting again and now just sticking on the bootlogo again.
Can you flashmode and go back to stock. Could be you jostled something inside like the battery or one of the few components that are loose. I have torn down an Xperia s and there are a few things that could have been knocked loose in a fall.

All functions are working in terms of fastboot, recovery etc, it just doesn't want to boot up past the logo. Tempted to strip it down and see where that gets me. Failing that it's a £50 excess insurance claim
Have you unlocked your bootloader?

Before the drop it was locked, I reflashed an official ftf file via flashtool and still the same issue, I have since then unlocked the bootloadeer and installed custom kernel and custom ROMS and still nothing is getting past boot logo.
Ended up calling insurance company, only £30 excess and will get a new phone in 7-10 days
Maybe this will work
cant say about it much..may be a hardware issue but u can sure try flashing the KA 12 rom or the Erachter rom.....it shows very less bootloop problems..or the best way will be to flash the official sony firmware through flashtool and use akramar ics kernel to get root...
PEACE
Hello,
I have flashed a few custom ROMs onto my x10i and each time it reaches the lock screen when it starts up it just seems to go into a reboot loop from kernel splash screen to lock screen again. Is there any fix for this ? I have tried using SEUS and restarting the whole process of flashing a kernel, rooting etc but it doesn't seem to work. it literately only happens when it reaches the lock screen. sometimes it lasts longer than that. Whenever I wipe the system it seems to work fine but as soon as a few things are running it starts to reboot again. The current ROM I'm running is PAC-man, with the kernel supplied along with it.
Could anyone help me ?
Thanks,
mmy4life
I have the same problem
use the phone until the battery become empty charge it in off mode up to 100 enter in xrecovery advanced options wipe battery stats and reboot
maybe you did an error when flashing or it runs wrong kernel. my suggestion : just use another ROM there are many nice ROM you can choose, and dont forget to follow step by step installation guide provide by developers.
Is the rom overclocked as this can can happen on some devices try and set the CPU to 998

That usually happens when the ROM is using overclocked CPU settings or an unstable CPU governor as default but it can also be defaulted inside the kernel. You simply flash another kernel and appropriate ROM.

I've also tried that. I went through all the proper procedures when installing a new rom.

Then it has to be a hardware problem. Try removing your SD card before booting it up.

I flashed 2.3 and it kept rebooting after a while, so i re flashed 2.1 and it is more stable but reboots if i open a app or anything that uses ram.
btw 1eyedmonster how do you set the CPU to 998?
I am also having ths reboot and crash issue... is there no fix for it? I have read about this reboot error at numerous sites. Must be a bug or summin man... or we dn summin wrong... and if it were hardwars related then to what hardware wd you be referring to? Is it a replaceable part? How easy wd such a task honestly be... i have 2.3.3 with 3.0.0.75 and no matter what it just wont stop dropping itself while i just start to appreciate it all over again... so im sure there have bn plenty issues regards this... so is there an answer?

After Free Xperia Project's unofficial CM9 release for Sola was giving me some trouble, I flashed to a new ROM and lost my CWM installation. Right now, I am running stock .54 firmware rooted.
I cannot access CWM. But twice now (once today and once a few weeks ago), my phone has randomly booted into CWM when I restarted it. I didn't push any buttons or anything--it just went into CWM on its own. But I can't get it into CWM with any combination of keys and timing that I've tried.
Anyone know what's going on?
Try to get in by tapping sony logo on start. Have you flash some custom kernel? The best thing is wipe all data, flash fresh tft yhen use some custom kernel, there is quite few very good. Just watch it has to be for ics...

Hi all,
Before I have flashed the custom rom and would like to restore the stock rom now, but when I flashed the stock rom by odin(downloaded from sammobile.com), after boot up and test the call, camera, vibrate.. everything are ok, and then power off.
But in next day, I turned on the phone and want to test it again, it freeze and get very hot, then I try to flash with odin again, but when installing in the download mode(about 80%), it hangs and very hot, I need to take out the battery. I have tried three times, the result are the same, what can I do now?
Thanks.
Was it the latest stock firmware or an old one? Sounds like a hardware issue.

Yes, I was downloaded the latest version, but I don't know why it suddenly got this issue.
