Got my DNA back from SquareTrade repair - HTC Droid DNA

The wireless charging doesn't work and the mobile data will not turn on. The mobile data stays in the state of "Turning On". Web and texting will not work. Phone calls are fine. Do you think it may be something they did not reconnect when it was put back together? It was sent in to get the screen replaced.

Have you done any troubleshooting to rule out that it could be a software issue? Are you on a custom Rom? Have you tried a factory reset?
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

Yeah. I thought it was the radio firmware or software. It is stock s-on so I ran the 4.4.2 update. Still having the same problem. I have a feeling something was left disconnected. I think I am going to send it back to them.

Before you do that just try a factory reset to see if it helps. Considering your not rooted it's likely not software related but it's worth a try. If it doesn't fix anything I would send it back or open it up and see if anything isn't plugged in and check the connections.

Sounds like they didn't put it back together correctly

If you can, just take the back off of your DNA and look at the upper middle area of the phone. There will be two Antenna Cables (little itty bitty cables with rounded ends that snap to the board) With what is going on with your phone, it sounds like one of those was not put on back correctly. Here's a picture of that it's supposed to look like. (sorry for low res, just grabbed it off of google images) Where i put the blue arrows is where the two antenna cables are. i'll try to grab a better image in a second.

I went ahead and tried a new SIM card. That got the mobile data working again. I had an extra in one of the phone boxes. The wireless charging still does not work. I took the back off. ****ty job by whoever the shop for Squaretrade used. A screw was out and loose. All of the wires seem connected The cover touches the contacts on the phone board but I didn't take off the black plastic cover.
SquareTrade isn't going to charge me another deductible so I'll just send it back to them to fix correctly.

Im sorry but i think you're SOL, if the phone is in an unbootable state then there is no way of getting your pictures off it, just a friendly word of advice, either have all pictures save to the Micro SD or back it up (auto upload) using Google+/Dropbox Etc.

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter, as well. Even if you can revive the phone via a process like Jtag, you'll most likely end up losing everything that's stored on the phone. You might try shooting a PM to XDA member Zarboz regarding the issue, as he has a Jtag RiffBox and is familiar with the process.
Also, I saw your other post regarding the phone dying on you. Have you tried charging the phone for an extended period of time? I've seen some wonky cases on here where the phone died and acted as though it were bricked, only to power back up after being charged for awhile.

I ran into the same issue with a 2 month old Evo. Try this:
Pop off the upper back cover. Get a torx screwdriver, remove the screws holding on the opaque charcoal-colored cover that goes over the camera. using the edge of something not too sharp, gently push the left side of the grey cover to the right *GENTLY* to get the clip on the right side to release. Now, using that same tool, pry the grey cover from the bottom slightly. Be careful, as there's adhesive attached to the cover and camera lens. Now, once you've removed the grey cover, you'll see a wiring harness with 3 pairs of wires in the bottom right corner. use something to remove that harness very carefully - this is going to be an actual 'battery pull'. 10 seconds later, press the harness back into place *DO NOT FORCE IT*. Now, try powering the phone on.
This fixes my phone for however long as I leave that charcoal cover off of it. As soon as I put it back on, watching logcat I believe it's triggering a faulty thermal sensor which there isn't a fix for. I was able to pull all my wife's stuff off her phone as well as factory reset it before I send it off to HTC>

Im sure you guys have heard it before, but I really could use some help. I just received my early bird edition, not developers and I have no idea where to start. I am not a computer guru like you guys are and could use assistance. I have my sim installed and my SD card. Few things:
How do I get the google play store?
is there a way to customize my watch at all? Seems pretty bare?
Thanks for the help

There is a sticky that is the second post in this section called [INFO] Everything.... it contains almost every bit of information regarding the TS and other x201 devices.

Hi,
I also need help. I just got my TS and downloaded the play store and started to load apps onto the watch. Everything was fine until I set the watch down to fix dinner. When I came back, it wouldn't turn on. I tried holding down both buttons thinking that may be how you can reset it...no luck. I don't want to open the back because that will ruin my warranty. Is there anything else I can do? I am not computer literate (figuring out how to sideload the play store apk was the achievement of a century for me).
I just feel so lost. I don't know who to even ask at this point...I don't think I did anything wrong to the watch. I have no clue why this happened. I just got it today.
Have you tried to charge it yet?
Also, if you haven't rooted or run the patch, really bad idea to put ANY info on it.
You can open the back without voiding anything but the water-resistance warranty. If you open the back you can pull the battery. If you pull the battery, or let it run down all the way, then try to restart your watch with a charged battery in place, it will probably work again.
It may be that your power button has slipped out of alignment or is otherwise not pushing on the switch on the main board correctly. Sometimes the main board can shift away from the external buttons. If you open your TrueSmart, you can take a look anyway.

Well here is the deal. To be honest, I have no idea how to program, load apps etc etc etc. I saw an awesome piece of technology and a great new idea but I think I am what you guys refer to as someone that needs to plug it in and it work. I have watched the videos that you have all posted and to be honest, you guys are all incredibly smart at what you do. I watch your videos and am lost immediately. Its not fair to you guys to ask a million questions so I am willing to pay for someone to help me. Please someone contact me. my email address is [email protected]

I ran into a similar problem with my power button not turning on my watch. Sigh. Did you ever solve your problem? Its hard enough that I can't even open the back of the watch as I had to take it to a local jewelry person to have him open it to put in my memory card when I first got the watch.

My 1900. omate will not power on so how do I check to make sure the min board is in contact with the power button? I can see it pushing down some metal tip when I press the power button but then what? Push it with a screwdriver or ?
With your TrueSmart back cover off but the battery still installed, can you still see where the power button is pushing against the power switch on the main board ? If so, you can push the power button and see if it hits the switch to depress it. Maybe you could also carefully slip a tool in sideways between the button and switch and attempt to depress the switch. I suggest you try with something non-conducting first, if you can reach it with the battery still installed at all.
This is just to check whether the power switch is being depressed far enough to activate the watch. Sometimes the switch has been found to not have been properly soldered to the main board or to be otherwise defective.
Make sure it still won't power on after a battery pull first, of course. I'm sure you have already tried that, but it bears repeating.

im going to try that....does the back cover has to be screwed on for the watch to be turned on?

Keeping the battery and getting at the power switch is difficult because I had to lift up a second layer to get at it. I managed to depress the button and screwed it back. I pressed the power button and nothing happened but when I plug it to my pc via cradle it kept blinking the battery symbol again and again. Not sure if that meant the battery power was low so I pulled the battery and put it back in. This time I see it flash the battery symbol once then it nothing.
Update.... it went back to flashing the battery symbol.
Update... my watch came back after switching batteries. I did depress the power button from inside before I screwed the backplate back on. I applied the ensc security patch as I used the wrong option..didn't know there was four options in the drop down menu at bottom. I was hoping for a fix butThe power button still doesn't work so I turned on the watchon app... if its working and switch the display on to 30 mins. I'm looking to apply the ensec 20140318 patch. OOPS I already did the patch.

Solved: Dead phone. Strange bootloop

Edit: Fixed! Well, temporarily. I've ordered a new power button to replace the sticking one. Until then, I've managed to unstick it for now.
While I'm fairly sure it's dead dead, I figured I'd ask here before giving up.
Background: Best Buy refurbished AT&T i717 with Beanstalk 4.4 flashed. It worked amazingly after switching from 4.2 to 4.4, but one day it froze and restarted into a bootloop. If left alone, it shows the Samsung logo and then goes to a black screen. If plugged in, it vibrates several times, shows the charge indicator momentarily, and then starts vibrating again. It will boot into download mode, but restarts itself after 3 seconds. It will not boot into recovery no matter how I try.
So first question: Is there anything I can do to revive it? I'm making due with a worn out Captivate Glide right now, but I'd like my Note back.
Second question if not: Are there any cool projects I can reuse the parts of my Note on?
If you can get into download mode I'd try hooking it up to a windows machine with Kies installed. Do an emergency recovery and bring it back to stock. If that doesn't work, idk. You will probably need your serial number though.

The device auto reboots after 3 seconds when I get it into download mode. Otherwise, I would have already tried that. Unfortunately, I don't have the device's original serial number either, as the refurbisher didn't think that was important to note on their sticker.

That sticker no longer exists. It was removed and replaced by the refurbisher. Also, normal boot does not cycle. It just hangs. I have to remove the battery and replace it to get the device to show the Samsung logo again. I've also removed the bezel/back that covers the mainboard of the device to check the power button. It doesn't seem to stick.
Can I get a stuck power button? Stuck power button anybody?
Even though it may sound or even feel ok, you could have a stuck power button. Flick the back of your phone a few times and see if it helps. Then go to Best Buy and say "WHAT THE [email protected]#K"

Well, my 2 year replacement plan ran out a month ago. This was my second refurb for various hardware failures (first the audio port, and then the USB) I had to switch out the USB board on this one just a few weeks ago actually, thanks to the design flaw of it being on the bottom, but it ran just fine afterward until now. Is there a way to bypass the power button, short of removing it, that I can use to test?

So chances are you got one of.ours She's getting a S5 on Friday, but I can't find a suitable alternative for this beast yet waiting for the lg g pro 2 if it ever comes out. Sorry I went off topic

I'm pretty easy on my phones, physically. When I did a trade in on my HTC Inspire to buy the Note, the BB employee was in complete shock that I'd carried it daily for nearly 1 1/2 years.
I'm actually looking forward to the Note 4 this fall. Lots of good buzz coming from side channels. Although, I've started considering settling for the S5 or Note 3 now that my Note is dead.
Looking at the contacts, the power and volume buttons are thru hole soldered about 6mm apart... $3 on ebay for a replacement button. I might try my luck with my soldering iron. If that doesn't work, I'll start looking for ways to put this big screen to use in some DIY projects.
Ok, thanks everyone for the suggestions! I took the board off and attempted to unsolder the contacts. No go, need to buy a high temp soldering iron. BUT, I mashed the button really hard with a screw driver and it seems to have (temporarily) fixed the button. I've ordered a new button and it should be here soon. Hoping this temp fix keeps until.

anyone experienced this issue?

I would lime to apologize for how long this thread is, please read the whole thing, thanks
I droped my DNA about 1 month ago and the screen cracked, luckily the digitizer was fine but the glass was cracked bad. Then a week later I guess I was to "rough" with my DNA and I screwed up the digitizer. Al I could see was a black screen with some green and purple lines going on it. So I needed to get it replaced, it would cost me around $150. Everything was working, even the screen, I could still feel the vibrations of me trying to put in my passcode, in other words, it could still recognize me puting in touch inputs but I could couldn't see what I was touching. I put in my head phones to listen to music, and it was fine, the sound was clear and everything. 2 weeks later I go to the repair shop to get it fixed, they put on a new screen and it looks brand new. I get home and I notice the side of the screen is messed up because when I try and press the q button on the keyboard it types the lettet w. So as hard as I try to type the letter q, it won't work. Sadly, I didn't test out my earpiece or the headphone jack. Now I take it back and they order a new LCD and digitizer. I come back in a couple of days so they can put it on the screen works fine. The next day I try to call one of my friends but I notice there was a problem. When I call the screen goes as normal, but when I take the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't come back on. No matter how hard I tried to get it back on, it would get back on. Worst, the earpiece didn't work. I couldn't hear anyone in a call, they could here me but I couldn't here them. I take it back to the repair place, they order like 10 earpieces but it didn't fix the issue. Now they are saying that the problem is my motherboard. So at this point, the only things that don't work are the proximity sensor, the camera because I get an error (cannot connect to camera error), the earpiece, and the headphone jack because its all staticy when I try to watch youtube videos. Yes I have tried many many headphones but the problem keeps persisting. I forgot to mention that my doubletap2wake doesn't work or my sweep2wake. A couple of days later the guy who owns the shop says the problem is the motherboard. I try to get my money back but I had no luck. What do guys have to say? I came in for one problem to get fixed, then I get another. Worst of all my phone just shuts off at like 50%. I can't restart it or anything, I have to connect it to a charger in order to turn it on? What do you guys have to say? They said that when you open up the phone, the pins that holding things in place break off and people get these issues. Sorry for this being so long.

Sounds like they messed it up bad when they put it back together. What repair service did you use. It might not even be worth bothering with the phone anymore it sounds like they messed it up when they were in there fixing it. Make them fix the entire thing or make them get you a new phone. Judging by how many problems are present you may as well just get a new phone.
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

Nope, warranty expired a couple of months ago. The weird thing is, my friend stepped on my phone at school, then when I turned it over, it wasn't cracked and what is more bazzar, everything was working fine, the dt2w, the s2w, the earpiece, the proximity sensor, the camera. Then an hour later, those things were back to not working again.

Here is what I would do in this situation. Sell this phone as a phone that is not working and can be used for parts on eBay. Then with whatever money you can get try and buy a new phone.

Agreed... You should be able to find a DNA on eBay or craigslist for way less than $300.

I just got my DNA from a friend who bought it for $100 used. The only reason he didn't want it is he didn't realize he wouldn't get LTE on AT&T..It's near mint condition...so, they're out there.

The cool thing is that there's more and more great phones for cheap, especially with craigslist!

Phone Died

So today I was using my Padfone X in tablet mode when I received a notification for Google +. When I opened the application, the tablet died. It went to a black screen. I hit the power button thinking I might have bumped it by accident, it did not turn back on. So I pulled the phone and it did not turn on. When I placed the phone back into the station, the red light turned on before the phone was fully docked. There is a button about two inches above the connectors on the side of the phone dock that the phone presses when it goes in to tell the tablet the phone is being inserted. Once fully inserted, the device did not vibrate.
I tried holding the volume down and then hitting power, but that did not work. I cannot pull the battery, because it is not user replaceable.
The device was rooted with Towel Root V1 and had Xposed and other various root apps.
Has anybody else experience a full phone death as above?
Try a factory reset, hold power and volume down to get into the recovery menu.

The phone was completely un-responsive. Meaning the phone would not work period. Funny thing though, I called AT&T and they told me they will send me a new phone. After getting in touch with Asus tech support, they had me working again.
I just plugged my phone into the charger and it came up in charge mode. After I pressed the power button, it came back up. Unfortunally, the network doesn't work like it is suppose to now. It is spotty at best if it even connects at 4G LTE. Sometimes I even get Edge. But pinging www.google.com doesn't work from the console.
I have done a factory reset now, still not working correctly. I even went to AT&T and had them swap the SIM card thinking that maybe I damaged it when this happened.
Just chiming in. Have had this happen repeatedly, and always the same way: Am watching youtube videos back to back over the 4G LTE while docked with the tablet, tablet sound cuts off and screen turns grey, undock phone, everything becomes completely unresponsive except when plugging it into the charger, at which point a red LED comes on. Have had one of them come on after being on the charger for half an hour, but had no cell service, and then it died within 15 minutes of that and refused to come on at all after that. Also had issues on all of them where very rarely half the tablet screen would turn blue while watching anything from youtube.
Warranty is sending out my 4th device at this point, hoping it will work for me.

Scott,
I already have a case number: N140810420. Asus support was able to get my device to power back on, however, the LTE modem still fails to function. I have ordered a replacement from AT&T and it should be here tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. I have been running on the GSM network or WiFi only due to the failure. The GSM modem also seems to have difficulty working, but it does work. When I dial *#*#4636#*#* and change the radio to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) it keeps the radio from attempting to connect to LTE and keeps the battery drain to a normal. With it set to LTE, it will drain the battery quicker due to the fact it cannot connect. It will continue to look for a LTE connection even though it will not work.
Thank you.
Replacement came today, I will update how it goes.
Update 14 August:
Phone is still going strong, temps have topped at 140. The office seems to shut down apps that are running. So my temp monitor will stay locked at a temp for a minute until I open up the app again, then it refreshes.

i ran into this red light no phone turning on issue as well. I removed the back, disconnected the battery from the motherboard. Let it sit for 3 minutes, reconnected it. Put the phone back together and it turned on right away. Its now been 3 days and the phone is working great.

I just hit this issue today as well. When you say removed hte battery, do you JUST mean the phone? Did you just undo the star-screws and pull the battery?
This makes me sad. I was so in love with this, but same here, now my data connection is spotty if it connects at all.
I tried to remove the battery, however I was unsuccessful. I also did not want to rip this phone apart yet due to the fact it is still under warranty.

Yes just the phone, remove the back and the screws, disconnect the battery from the motherboard and wait a few moments and than reconnect. my phone came right back on, yes it did take a few minutes longer than usual to restore service. i have been using it for a few weeks now with no issue.

I was coming in here to say exactly this. Kudos, ASUS; makes me a little more confident about my purchase.
Now if AT&T can sort out my "not eligible for upgrade" system bug so my Padfone X will actually ship, that'd be even better.
I just had my brand-new warranty replacement do the same thing AGAIN
Did it overheat?

No. But reflashing the stock recovery seems to be related. It's only happened with TWRP installed.

And the replacement device just developed a black line across the screen...

Edit: I just dropped it two inches or so and scuffed the corner. Looks like I am getting stuck with the defective unit since AT&T will probably claim that caused the problem.
Since last night, TWO new black lines have appeared... And I can't go to the store until Friday
Edit: Number 4...
Edit 2: I am now up to 5 lines of dead pixels.
Edit 3: 7 rows. I'll be able to visit the AT&T DSC tomorrow night.
