I got as far as the last step in the htcdev where it says to press yes on ur phone I pressed the power button like it said but nothing happen so I held it and my phone rebooted. Now I tried to push the firewater on cmd and it's saying the device can't be found. Any suggestions? Also when I go into bootloader it says unlocked on top. But when I click reboot to recovery my phone comes to a blank screen with a red phone icon. Am I doing the steps right or did I leave something out? Been trying to figure it out since 6 this morning.

You need to set your device into USB debug mode in Setting > developer option > enable usb debug mode
Red phone icon means u didn't flash custom recovery yet. You must flash custom recovery in order to install custom rom.
Take a look here for custom recovery @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498746
For custom roms, I use ViperMax :
@ ViperMax International @
@ ViperMax Sprint/Verizon @
Other roms, do visit One Max Android Development forum

Ok thanks so much man. So after I get the custom recovery I flash a custom Rom or do I use firewater to s-off/root then install the custom Rom?

Appreciate if you do hit thank button for thanking me..
Root and S-off are two different things.
Firewater for s-off. S-off can be done before or after flash custom rom.
Every custom root mostly come with SuperSU(rooteed)
Be sure to do full backup your stock rom in recovery before flashing any rom.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash custom recovery
3. Full backup
4. S-OFF with firewater
5. Flash custom Rom

now you need to install amonra recovery then go into amonra recovery and select developer menu and select install su then reboot.
amonra recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com//showthread.php?t=1339679
I flashed the recovery via the all in one kit, it was amonra 3.15 (BG/ICS) Btw im running ics leak if that helps. (im a noob at this stuff, sorry ) where do i see amonra recovery?
Turn off phone, hold down volume and power... it'll boot to fastboot. Select "BOOTLOADER" using the rocker and power button. Then select recovery. It'll reboot the phone to AmonRa.
Edit*
If you've already RUU'd to the ICS leak, you may as well just get one of the many great ICS ROMs (scott, jolez, and bored are my favorites) and flash that while you are in recovery. You'll be glad you did. From then on you can reboot straight to recovery with the extended shutdown menus.
Where can i download those roms at?

You are probably used to the one-click everything. Installs recovery, s-off, unlock bootloader and root.
What you did, sounds like JUST root. Next step for you would be to unlock the bootloader via HTCDEv. Once you do that you can install a custom recovery.
That's the current state of options right now.

Is anyone having problems with rom manager in recover. I've rooted my HTC EVO LTE and unlocked the boot loader with HTC DEV. Then flashed recovery from rom manager. Then when I start recovery, rom manger recovery loads, but when ever I choose an option it goes no where and just sits with the hat. None of the options like reboot system, install zip from Sd-card, or advanced work. All of them take me to a black screen with hat and don't take me anywhere. What am I doing wrong. Any suggestions?
Attached is the error file that I get when I attempt to use recovery.
Do I need to partition my Sd-card in order to get it to work. It's been a long time since I did this, I can't remember if I need to do this in order to get it to work?
hi, i bought evo 3d in pakistan it was working fine after OTA update i just tried to root it and then tried a custom RUU but it failed and eventually it sucked my original RUU the phone just started restarting from boot screen after that i just visited local market and just gave to some local vendor for software repair he just installed some RUU which in turn sucked the camera and wifi now when i tap at camera app it shw nothing but a certain increase in brightness and then back to normal similarly when i check my wifi it shows 'error' and shows no effect on tapping it i confirmed HTC about the rom they have told me that the local vendor has installed the rom of any other country so how can i get the original rom i.e shipped for Singapore or in other case can my camera and wifi be repaired ??? your kind help will be highly appreciated pl...

you're s-off. dont think you need to unlock bootloader. if you're looking for something close to stock I'd recommend you look into this rom. I know its not stock but its much better. you wont lose 3d capabilities as its sense 3.6.
If you insist on stock then you might wanna run an RUU and get back to stock. Get the "RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed.exe" ruu. Most of the phones in pak come from Europe
Made in china, lol
You and I have the same phone - same software running when originally bought: i bought mine directly from china and the phone was only meant for people living in asia, if you did unlock through htcdev, did you have any problem unlocking, mine doesnt want to go past the disclaimer screen, I select yes , press power button and nothing happens even after a 30 min??? any1 please help btw, slecting no, it responds within 2 seconds

If the above link seems a bit difficult to understand I've detailed what you need to do
Its really easy to do it on your own. Just need a few things to set up on your pc/laptop
Install these drivers first: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
Then dl this and extract it in a folder in C:\ drive : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/mini-adb.zip
Name that folder "android". Now download this recovery(4EXT recovery):http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/recovery.img
Place this recovery.img in android folder
Now open cmd and type "cd C:\android"
Now boot into bootloader and connect your phone to pc and select fastboot on your phone. It should say FASTBOOT USB in red on your phone. This is very important because it shows whether your phone is properly connected or not.
type "fastboot devices" and see if your phone is listed
IF your phone is detected then type this command: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
then to boot into recovery type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
recorvy is not being installed whenever i try it shows remote failed... snapshot attached
oh crap. frogot this completely. This isnt a problem with custom hboots like revolutionary hboot(which is what i use). What you need to do is unlock bootloader from htcdev before you can flash recovery. after that it doesnt matter whether you are unlocked or locked if you want to flash rom.
just follow the instructions at htcdev and you'll get your unlock token

i am afraid that unlocking through htc dev may make my phone to 'S-ON' as i last time tried it unlocked the loader and made it to s-on and tried some custom roms but all roms were giving the same error that the bootimage can not be created so then a local developer somehow managed to write the rom through J-TACK but the camera & wifi are still not working so i dont wanna go this way again... so any better idea???

Friend, I again suggest never try HTC dev .. For custom boot loader you can go there:-
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
1. Download both hboot of your phone like hboot 1.49.9999 for gb and 1.53.5353 for ics..
2. I think your are on ICS (check you are on android 4.0.3) then choose 1.53.5353 and rename it to " PG86IMG.zip" ..
3. Copy this file into root folder of SD card..
4. Switch off the phone.
5. Go to boot loader with pressing power and vol. - button at same time .
6. Once you go to the boot loader , boot loader scan "" PG86IMG.zip"" and after scaning bootloader ask for update ..
7.. After update.. You can check you bootloader version is 1.53.5353 with no "locked" and "unlocked" statement instead he say jopunetbear..
8. Try again flash recovery with adb and fast boot(you known the procedure already)..
I try this method to get root again after flashing ruu(as PG86IMG.zip),
Hope this will working for you also....

No htcdev cannot turn s-off to.s-on. You said you tried it last time and it made it s-on. But I guess you tried the write secureflag command also.
If you don't want to unlock, then don't unlock it, just flash another hboot.

Mind if I ask why are you trying to unlocked you bootloader and soff or your already soff?
Ok, I'll try to help best I can. Hopefully one of the more experienced folks can chime in too as they'll probably be way more helpful. I've got a couple guesses, but need to know a bit more. Please know that I'm only providing my best guesses as I haven't run into this problem.
What firmware version were you on when you tried rumrunner? It sounds like you already had an unlocked bootloader and s-off... through moonshine. Did you end up with a locked bootloader? If so, how? You mentioned that you went back to sense 5. What method? Did you ruu back to a stock rom or just flash one of the Custom/stock ROMs.
Here is one possible option. I would suggest reading through the thread thoroughly before diving in...
- Go back to 100% stock with locked bootloader and s-on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919
Then make sure you've taken any OTA updated to get to 3.06.605.4 and you should be able to use rumrunner.

10-4. That's kinda what I thought too, but figured I'd try to confirm by asking a few questions. I have seen a few people get stuck with s-off but a locked bootloader if they goof up the process trying to go back to 100% stock. Thought I'd ask the questions just in case this is what he did.
Ok, I would like to keep the Stock Android, but would like to have root access.
I an unsure how to gain root access with out turning S-ON.
I could follow that and turn S-ON again,
But if you have another method of gaining ROOT with out flashing a custom ROM,
I would be grateful for your assistance.
Sorry for any confusion on that,
I spent 10hrs trying to figure this out yesterday,
it was necessary to put down and look at another day.
I have tried downloading superuser and supersu from the play store, neither give me access to root
However I have looked on your forums since you suggested simply flashing another rom already with root access - Thanks for that btw

You must already have a superuser app to install one from the play store. Flash a superuser zip from recovery. That will put both the app and the required binaries in place.

From what I have learned so far, running rumrunner when you are already S-OFF will net you a FAILED message. if your DNA is already S-OFF then feel free to flash whatever ROM you want.. well sorta, make sure it's for the DNA, and flash at your own risk.
I took the OTA after achieving S-OFF with moonshine and it removed my root access... now I am in this boat where I want to regain root.
I have finally finished downloading the zip from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560010
But I have no idea how to flash it, step by step instructions would be helpful since this is my first flash and I have yet to figure it out. I have tried fastboot flash zip but that didn't work, and I am unfamilar with this....

is of no help unfortunately....
I found some Instructions that tell you to boot into recovery, but when I try to boot into recovery all I get is a RED ! and Triangle above a screen. like something went wrong :/
Start by downloading ROM and the patch and copy the file to the SD card’s root in your device.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. For this, power off your device and restart it keeping the volume down key pressed. Your phone will be booted into bootloader fastboot mode.
In the Recovery mode, use the ‘Power ’key to select and to navigate use the ‘Volume’ keys.
Use ‘backup and restore’ option to create a backup.
Now perform three steps in a row: first wipe data//factory reset, then wipe cache and lastly wipe dalvik cache accessing the advanced menu.
Now install zip from your sdcard, then select ROMs zip file you copied to your phone and choose zip.
Redo it for Patch file once you are done with ROM installation.
At the end, reboot your phone.
Lovely I didn't have a recovery installed, using the tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219175
I installed the TWRP 2.5.0.0 recovery,
THEN I was able to enter recovery and flash the ROM.
WOW what a experience, this has been.

Lovely I didn't have a recovery installed, using the tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2219175
I installed the TWRP 2.5.0.0 recovery,
THEN I was able to enter recovery and flash the ROM.
WOW what a experience, this has been.

well glad you got it sorted out.... it can be quite a lot to take in if you have never done anything like that before. but once you have done it a few times it is much easier to do and remember especially if you run into problems.
cheers
and happy customizing.

Rumrunner doesn't update nothing. Try asking your question again.

if you want the 3.06.605.4 update (aka 4.2.2) and you are already s-off - and want STOCK no root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2570548
if you want root to go with that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560010
if you are stock 2.06 you can take the OTA even if you are s-off, but if you have root, you will loose root taking the ota.

if you want to revert to stock, since i didn't flash the second till i flashed the first, i would suggest that you do that, if you want to go with another custom rom, follow it's instructions, if it asks for a specific starting point, aka stock 4.2.2 then flash the first one then flash the custom one.
Hello Xda,
I am about to send in my phone for repair, and was told it would be factory reset. So When I get it back, might as well get S-OFF on it.
The Phone has the latest 4.4.2 OTA on it, and I have a few questions about FireWater. I've read that it can S-OFF the 4.4.2 software, but I've seen a ton of hoops you have to jump through to do it (Ex. custom rom, insecure kernel). I just want the CLEAR instructions on how to get S-OFF on 4.4.2. And I saw the part about "Hold power in case of qhusb mode" Any idea what that is?
Thanks to anyone who can clarify!

Its really not that complicated
you unlock the bootloader flash TWRP 2.6.3.3
Root on exit from TWRP - run the superSU from the phone and it will reboot to install. Reboot to recovery one more time to install a custom kernel. Run firewater and success is yours.

Thanks, and this is for HBOOT 1.56 too right? And any kernel you suggest?
UPDATE
Ok, incase anyone else was wondering how to do this heres what I did. Hopefully this will help you guys.
From a totally stock AT&T HTC One with 4.4.2 HBOOT 1.56:
*****THIS WILL WIPE DATA. BACKUP ANYTHING YOU WANT TO KEEP*****
1. Unlock Bootloader via htcdev.
2. Flash TWRP (I used 2.6.3.3)
3. Install SuperSU on reboot of TWRP
4. Enable developer options.
5. Enable USB Debugging.
6. DISABLE FAST BOOT
7. Plug Phone into computer.
8. Do "adb devices" to make sure its found.
9. Accept the RSA Key. ( Always accept if you want)
10. Run Firewater.
11. On the enter "su" step, make sure you WAIT until the SuperSU message comes up, then grant it. ( You may have to type "su" 2-3 for it to ask )
12. Continue with Firewater
This is what I did and it worked on the first try! ( Actually 2nd, I got too eager and accidentally unlocked my device when it was working. Don't worry, it will just tell you try again and DONT TOUCH THE DEVICE )
P.S. Ask firewater support if you need help, these are just instructions I did to do it.
Hopefully this helped!
