Ok, please, anyone, help me!
I've rooted my phone, using a zerg method ive seen on galaxys2root.com, at first everything worked brilliantly, customs roms and all, but the phone usb drivers are gone.
no pc or mac ive tried can detect my phone, i cant move any files (unless i do it over wi-fi), i cant select usb debug mode, it say cable is connected even when there is no cable connected, ive tried many methods to connect the phone but none work.
so now i cant use odin to flash anything since my phone is always being detected as an unknown device.
im desperate, i dont know what to do.
so please anyone help me out there ... i guess all i can offer for help is a 10$ steam game to whoever finds a solutiin
im not quite sure whats wrong with your usb but you can try mobile odin to flash.
The are 2 things that I Would try, try this first:
Download the CWM version of "Siyah kernel" (v3 is best)
Here is a link
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/05/10/siyahkernel-v3-2-1/
Flash it in to CWM recovery (if you need instructions on how to flash in to CWM let me know) (to enter cwm recovery do the following:
Turn phone off
Press the home+ volume up+ power button, and do not release your fingers off the buttons till you see the sgs2 boot logo)
If your phone still doesn't work properly after the above, do the following:
Find a CWM flasherble rom (any will do as you are only flashing it so as to be able to use Odin for what ever rom it is you want to install, although you can also find a nice rom that is cwm flasherble, pure ics v7. 3 is very nice!) and download it from your phone
Make titanium backup of all your apps
Go in to CWM recovery and select "install zip from sd card"
Click "yes"
And hopefully when that has finished it should have fixed the issue you are having, and then you can install the rom you were on originally or a rom that you like.
Hope this helped
Cheers

Probable not following instruction like
Question in wrong forum
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .

Well, thanks for the reply guys but still not working, its driving me nuts, no pc can pick up my phone, its only being seen as unknown device, ODIN cant see my phone when its in download mode.
i installed that room, ICS resurrection remix, the problem managed to find its away to that also.
EDIT: Sorry about posting in the wrong forum.
Stuff to try when Odin doesn't work:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google).
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Check the rom/kernel you download for corruption. Programs like 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar, etc will allow you to 'test' the rom file you download. If there are any errors/any of the files fail the test, bad download. Try again/try downloading with a different internet connection if it keeps happening.
*Run Windoze Update.
Try all of these steps if necessary.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. And if the different PC doesn't work first try, go thru all the above steps on the different PC if necessary.
And if you still don't have any joy, probably user error somewhere along the line or a hardware issue.
I'm sure its a user error, cause the phone realizes that usb is connected when i connect. but no other device can recognize the phone (i tried 2 windows pc's and one os x machine).
I'm not an expert but is it possible that the phone information got deleted?

Getting a lot of i used that xxx site and rooted or flashed now broke help asked from here without knowing what the original site asked you to do or firmware used .It becomes hard to guess what's wrong .

Did you o a factory reset, and full wipe before you installed the rom?

Ok, Kies is installed with drivers, everything was working fine, then i used a Zerg method i found on galaxys2root.com to root the phone, after that it all went to hell.
Well, for the heck of it, i install MIUI, and usb mount is still not working, this is driving me nuts!
Did you make sure you did a full wipe of the phone before you installed the rom?.
And have you tried flashing siyah v3.2?
Flash the kernel and tell me how you get on.
Cheers corey

i made a full swipe, well ill flash siyah with miui now, just a sec mate, and really, thanks for replying everyone.
fishingfon, i installed Siyah, rebooted the phone, the pc picked it up and opened the autoplay, then it declared it as unkown device and back to square one.
everytime i reboot the phone, the pc sees it for a few secs now then unknown device... i THINK that we're on to something o.o
Have you tried using another usb cable? As if it is broken that would explain the problems you are having. Abd have you tried it of a different pc?
And if you have an external sd card in the phone, try removing it And then rebooting.

And make sure you "uncheck" the "usb debugging" in developer options,I dont know why but I have often not been able to connect my phone to the pc if the above is kept checked.

Same thing, could be an appilcation conflict on the phone ? when i reboot the window show and then goes, maybe the phone is a loading an app which screws up with the USB?
Have you tried the above?.
Have you tried enabling usb mass storage?.
I dint think it would be an app, as they are apps that people use all the time.
Did you make sure you used the currect root method for your model?
Did you make sure your phone was either a I9100 or and I9100T model before before tou rooted. If it was the wring model rhat might explain your problems, what model is your phone?
If none of the above works the only thing I can think of is that the phones hardware is broken.

If you remove the backplate off the phone, and remove the battery, rhe should be a label with the model on it

You could try downloading Mobile Odin Pro from Google Play. Then go to Samfirmware.com and download your original firmware that came with the phone,( NOT A CUSTOM ROM). Put the firmware on the root directory of your sd card. Run Mobile Odin and install the firmware.

Hello,
Well I have a slight problem with my SII.
What happened is that my USB port on the bottom of my phone got slightly damaged. My phone will charge just fine via the port but it will not connect to the computer. Windows just says that it can't see the device (Yes, I have reinstalled the drivers, other SIIs work just fine, and my Note is fine too - I have also used a selection of cables) The phone also can't see the computer, all that is does is charge.
I am currently running a custom ROM which I will need to remove for when Samsung take my device away. Luckily I have CWM installed on my phone so I can flash it on the fly via that.
My question is, where can I get stock ROM which I can flash in CWM and get an insecure kernel in which I can just my home made JIG to get rid of the boot count...
Or is this impossible without using odins; in which case I guess I am screwed!
Mobile Odin
You can use Mobile Odin to flash stock firmware.
...
Thank you both - I am using Mobile odins. Thanks!!
So, I cannot connect my phone to any pc.
Problem started after re-installing Windows 7 I believe.
The phone charges fine over usb.
Here's what I have tried so far:
I have changed mtp to ptp.
I have tried using different usb cables and ports
I have re-installed windows 3 times
I have installed Samsung drivers and kies, and tried fixing the error thru kies.
I have tried different kernels (Siyah and stock cm10 kernel)
I have tried on a different pc.
I have tried the stock sgs3 rom, it has Siyah kernel.
I have tried turning USB debugging on and off.
Galaxy S3 toolkit doesn't recognize my phone.
Any help is appreciated.

You say you already tried stock rom with Siyah Kernal. How did you get back to stock did you flash or use Odin?
I would make a backup, Use Superwipe script and use Odin to load Stock Ics 4.0.4 and then try. If that fails you can always restore back to your backup and someone else maybe able to provide a solution.
TBH it doesn't sound like its your PC if you have tried it on other PCs.

I'm not sure can Odin connect to my phone, so I would end up bricking it completely..

I just tried to flash cf-root using odin and windows just gave me a error.
Could doing a megawipe or a superwipe make windows recognize my phone again then?
Uninstall Kies completely from your PC when its uninstalled reboot your PC then make sure the Kies folder located here is deleted
Program Files / Samsung / Kies
Next download and install Kies from the Samsung web site, reboot your PC once rebooted plug your phone in to the USB (preferably with the original USB cable), let the drivers install themselves.
Once installed you should have it working again.

Done, it says USB device not recognized.
I'm currently installing Kies on a laptop, if it works it means that my motherboard is broken or something, if it doesn't it means my phones usb port is broken.
E: Okay, this windows is saying that the device is in error mode or something like that...

Pants. I'm in the same situation, but my phone isn't rooted. So I can't use mobile odin. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Is there any way of using stock recovery to either flash an official image or perhaps root?
Mike.
Heya guys,
So I flashed my phone back to stock about 3 or 4 weeks ago due to needing a more reliable ROM for a while. I've since then been trying to root my phone to no avail.
What has been happening is I install the correct drivers, load odin and chuck my phone into download mode (With USB debugging enabled). I've tried using the root files provided by both cf-root and the all-in-one toolkit, and it just... sits there trying to send the files to my phone (With cf-root it tries to send recovery.img, and all-in-one tries boot.img). My phone screen doesn't change, no progression bar, and the odin downloader doesn't move forward at all.
I am able to unplug my phone and start the phone again, but obviously the download hasn't been successful at all.
I am using Android 4.1.1, Build XXDLJ4.
I don't think its a PC issue, I've tried this on two seperate machines now with the same problems.
Question is then, does anyone know what to do to get the damn thing rooted?
Is Odin recognising your phone(colored window will appear along the top)?
The ID:Com is lighting up, if you mean at the top-top where it says "Odin - Model name" then no?

Hello everyone, I could not find a good title for my issue but I will try to explain as well as I can. I own a GT-I9300 (International), but since last official Samsung's firmware update(Jelly Bean 4.3) I am not able to get my phone recognized by my computer. Phone is connected and it charges, but neither Windows or Ubuntu recognizes it as a portable device. I am concerned about UMS is not available on device, but my phone it does not even get detected! I also own a Galaxy SII (4.1.2) and it does get detected by my PC. I think that flashing a custom ROM could solve the problem, since it appeared when I updated official firmware, but the thing is that I cannot root my phone! Tried ODIN but since my phone does not get detected, ODIN does not do its job. I also tried rooting with framaroot and towelroot, but no success: first one says "Failed , try another exploit" but there is only one. And the last one says my phone is not currently supported, even if I change modstrings.
So here is my question: how do I root my phone? I don't know what else I could try. I have already reinstalled Kies and Samsung USB drivers but still not working. Also hard-resetted but no luck.
Hope you guys can help me out because this is really getting on my nerves
Thanks in advance!

The thing is that my phone is the only one that do not get detected every single time I connect it. I have already connected one GT-I9100 and GT-S6790L and both get detected. I already tried on 3 different Virtual Machines with Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 8.1 but no luck.
As I said in the first post, I think it's a firmware problem since it appeared when I did the official update, which was this one:
Model GT-I9300
Model name GALAXY S III
Country Argentina
Version Android 4.3

I can see your frustration Now a few things technically it is a misconception that you need root to flash a custom rom you can actually flash a custom recovery with Odin full wipe and then flash a custom rom from custom recovery (only thing is you will lose all your data because you need root to back up your data)
Now I know the above statement is not very helpful because as you said Odin doesn't detect it (but I thought I would mention it anyway )
The reason framaroot and towelroot, didn't work is because at the moment the only way to root S3 is with Odin.:crying:
You may have tried this but I will mention it anyway first uninstal Kies and all Samsung drivers from your computer ( kies can interfere with Odin) Then try installing these drivers here >> http://developer.samsung.com/techni...Lhp1GqlWRy92Q60CX6PP1mF!80806326?v=T000000117 << If you have tried this then sorry.
Also when you connect the phone go to Device manager in Windows and try to look for your device ( it may say unkown device) it should have a warning triangle right click on it select update driver software and then select browse from my computer and point to the drivers that you have downloaded see if that works.
Another thing to note is if you are using Windows 8 you need to disable Driver signature in start up options ( Google it) for Windows to recognize the drivers.

I already tried uninstalling Kies and Samsung drivers. Also I tried looking for device on Device Manager but it does not appear when I plugin my S3, but it does appear when I connect other devices like S2 or Galaxy Fame Lite. They appear as portable devices.
I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have already tried with different OS over Virtual Machines and still doesn't work.
And thanks for that note, didn't know there was possible to flash a Custom Recovery without root, but I can't since ODIN doesn't detect device :crying:
Then it looks like you are running out of options I would use another computer not Virtual Machines
Okay I'll give it a try but as I said before, looks like an firmware issue, not computer's. Why would my computer detects two another Samsung devices but not mine (which used to work until last update)
Me, too!
I'm having a similar problem. Last week my GS3 stopped working, and I bought another one from Ebay with a cracked screen and swapped out motherboards. The phone seems to work as well as a stock Verizon phone on Jellybean would, but I can't get my Linux, Win 8, or Win XP computers to even recognize that it's attached. Different cables, each and every one of the USB ports, not even a blip. Device Manager in Windows doesn't even see it, and yes I got the developer options unlocked and have enabled USB debugging.
I've got the Samsung drivers installed, and tried to install the CWM device drivers from the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V9, but there was an error and that didn't work, either.
USB connection issues are usually due to Windows conflicts, driver problems or the lead itself. If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

I'm 100 percent sure that it is not due a Windows issue, I have already test every option. I have not considered the usb port to be damaged or worn, which could be possible but phone charges every time I connect it to computer. It just does not get detected as a device. But in order to assume it is a motherboard issue I will have to put away my feeling that the problem is caused by last OTA official update, since this problem started there.
If it is a firmware update issue, is it any option to flash another ROM?

As I said on previous posts, I have already installed and reinstalled Samsung USB drivers and made a factory reset -one from config. option and another one from Android stock recovery 3e (since I cannot install any advanced recovery -or even root it- to flash a custom rom). Doing those factory reset did not downgrade my last firmware update (when all my problems started).
I also said on previous posts that I tried towelroot and framaroot with no success. As tallman43 says, seems like international version of S3 does not support those kind of one-click to root apps.
-----------------------------------------------------
So far the only options available (if my theory about latest firmware update is the problematic one) are:
● downgrade firmware: [Q] How? Odin is not working since my phone does not get detected;
● root my phone in order to install an advanced recovery and flash a new ROM: [Q] Any way of rooting phone without computer (apart from towelroot or framaroot because I have tried and do not work for me)? I read one XDA post from 2 years ago to root S3 via console apk but latest comments assumes that method stopped working.
● install an advanced recovery without odin or root: [Q] How?
● fix USB firmware issue: [Q] I have completely no idea how to do it. (Already played with *#7284# and *#0808# but did not get my phone detected)
Please I need help, this is really irritating me and I am running out of ideas

I guess I have found out what the problem was. It was not firmware (as I thought). It was the micro USB port (as boomboomer said) which seems to not be firmly attached to the PCB. AC charging just seems to work okay, but not USB connections. I managed to figure it out by forcing the USB in a specific position to get it detected for 5 seconds, but then it disappeared.
Yeah, it was not as complex as I thought! I will try to replace that micro USB port as soon as possible, thanks everyone for your help!
