Boot loop help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for my first post to be a help thread but i'm stuck and looking for advice.
My phone (Galaxy S3 i9300) is stuck in a boot loop. I am/was running paranoid android beta and had been updating via the OTA updates. I had phone on charge last night and when I woke up this morning I had an OTA update and a text. I pulled down notification bar and hit the text and the phone knocked off and went straight into boot loop.
Flashes from the "Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300" screen to black and goes around and around like that non stop. I've tried booting with/without sd card and using 3 different batteries.
I've tried booting into download mode and the warning screen pops up momentarily but no matter how quick I hit the volume up/down key it will go back to black and start looping again.
Same goes for booting into TWRP, get as far as the Team Win logo popping up before going back to black and back into the loop.
When I plug in a charger/usb cable I get a loop of the battery icon flashing on the screen instead. (Still cant boot into download or TWRP with it plugged in)
I'm stuck for ideas. Is there anything I can do? It's been working fine up until this point. :crying:

Somehow i've managed to be able to get into Download mode and Odin recognises the phone.
Managed it by pulling the battery out while it was going from boot screen to download mode screen, no idea how/why that worked but it did.
Still stuck for my next move though?

Done. (Reported and asked to move thread)
Flashed stock firmware with odin but unable to factory reset, still nothing but a loop of the Samsung Galaxy S3 splash.

[Q] [SOLVED] Stuck on Vibrant/Samsung Boot Screen

I recently flashed the new ICS Passion v11 and this first flash was giving me problems...so I went back into recovery and wiped data, cache partition, and Dalvik cache. I accidentally messed up and rebooted before reinstalling the .zip file and now my Vibrant is stuck at the first boot screen and will not go into cwm recovery. So is there any hope left for my phone? Please help!
Don't worry. Just flash back to stock using Download mode.

I tried getting into download mode but it still just keeps cycling the same Vibrant boot screen. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but if I'm not mistaken it is Vol Down + Power right?
Few things.
First. Under your avatar is a Verizon picture. Are you using the Vibrant or the Facinate? They are different and Facinate ROMs don't work on Vibrant phones and vice versa.
Second. See below.
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

Yes, I am using the Vibrant. I was with T Mobile but I switched to Verizon. I was planning on giving this phone with ICS Passion flashed on it to a friend of mine who is still with T Mobile. Thanks for the post about how to get into download mode. I will try it as soon as I get some time to mess with it today.
I have answers!
Hey. I was having this exact problem and I solved it!
Basically, when it goes into a bootloop, all you have to do it take out the battery, pop it back in, and reflash it again. I had this problem for almost all my flashing even odin'ing back to froyo I had to do twice because it froze.
Here was my process:
I went through the process of going into going to Froyo with Odin (twice sometimes if it froze) then flashing CM7(Twice because of a boot loop) and then flashing ICS PAssion V12 (Twice because of boot loop)
Now it works perfect! Also, no need to wipe data/factory reset/cache partition/dalvik cache after coming out of the bootloop. simply take out the battery, go back into recovery and flash it again. should work!

It's Vol Down + Vol Up + Power. then you can let go as soon as you see the word "Vibrant" in white. should take you into recovery
Thank you to everyone that helped me out, especially to you Woodrube. Your post really helped me get things going. I finally got my phone into download mode and flashed back to the stock Eclair firmware with Odin. I then went back into recovery, flashed CM7, and proceeded to flash ICS Passion v11. It took me a couple of tries with all of this because I figured out that the ICS update file somehow got corrupted (Possibly when I flashed the stock rom?), so I just re-downloaded the file and flashed and it worked fine.

[Q] Help! Stuck in bootloop

Suddenly when I unlocked the screen it set itself into bootloop with the galaxy s3 logo showing for a few seconds then disappearing and then appearing again. The phone is unlocked, unrooted, running 4.1.2 stock ROM and has worked fine for the week I've been having it. I can't get into recovery mode. As soon as the phone get's battery power it starts bootlooping and holding volume up + power + home only make the android icon quickly flash past and then continuing in bootloop.
Help please...
Okay after the 25th try or something the phone decided to boot into download mode and I managed to wipe the phone and it seems to be working now. Can't seem to delete the thread though...
Glad it got sorted. You can't delete posts on xda so just edit the thread title or ask a mod to close it

[Q] Galaxy S3 Boot Loop Help

Hello, my Galaxy S3 is stuck on a boot loop.
It's a rooted S3, forgot what firmware. I think it's the latest one whichever that is. I used Odin.
It will not go into recovery or download mode no matter how many times I have tried. And will not connect to my computer at all, tried connecting to Odin and Kies but still nothing. Tried everything I could think of.
When going into download mode, after pressing continue, it shows a loading screen with the Android in the middle and status on top left. Then goes back to the boot loop after ~3 seconds.
When going into recovery mode, it begins to load recovery then reboots into the boot loop after about ~3 seconds.
About 30 min before the boot loop began, a notification popped up saying my SD Card is damaged and asked if I wanted to format it. I declined and rebooted my phone and it went away. So I assumed everything was okay. Then after charging my phone I unplugged it and it worked fine. Locked it, then tried to unlock it again but nothing happened. Held the power button then I see the boot loop begin.
I have crucial data on my phone that I need and would prefer being able to save everything before formatting.
So, what next? Any ideas?

Hello, i do have the same problem as the topic starter. Is there someone who has any suggestions what to do?
Read the post you actually quoted, it suggests what to do.

Try to remove the battery and connect it again for sometimes, and try to go to download mode, and not to Recovery mode.
If you try several times you will succeed to enter into the download mode, then you can enter into the recovery mode also, and if you wipe Delvik cache the phone starts to work normally. I encountered this problem 3 times that's because of some conflicts in operation of Android. Something like what happened some months ago in WhatsApp.

[Q] SIII will not boot

Hi
So I've had my Samsung SIII for just over 18 months, and it's all worked fine etc. I've never rooted it or anything.
But this morning it will not boot up. When I try to switch it on the start up sequence happens, but it gets stuck on the flashing Samsung splash screen. If I turn it off it just restarts and ends up back on that screen. The only way to stop it is to take the battery out.
I've tried starting it in recovery mode (power+home button+vol up), but the standing, open android just flashes and I end up with the android lay down with the red exclamation mark from there. It then loops between the two androids and the Samsung SIII start up logo screen. I have tried to press the volume buttons whilst on the red exclamation mark screen but cannot get to anywhere from it.
However, it will load the download mode (power+home button+ vol down) just fine.
I have looked all over but most people encountering anything similar have rooted their devices, which I have not.
Also, last week I lost all of my contacts which were stored on the device (I don't know why) but that might have something to do with it.
I don't particularly want to hard reset the phone and lose everything, but if it's the only solution I will do.
Thanks.
In download mode is the product number shown or a blank?
If it shows i9300 then you have a good chance of flashing either a full stock rom or a rescue firmware (see general forum) using odin. You will need to factory reset in recovery afterward, but your data is almost certainly unrecoverable.
If the product number is blank then you have partial SDS and require a new motherboard.

Do has boomboomer said above but as a last resort before flashing back to stock or a rescue firmware if you flash PhilZ recovery in download mode with odin. You then have a Aroma option in PhilZ recovery to browse and copy phone files so you may be able to recover some data pictures etc.
Please read PhilZ thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860 << and the special features thread about Aroma file manager in post #3
Please note use as a last resort to get your data back! and read everything! Also all this is presuming you can get into PhilZ recovery after flashing..
I'm having the same problem , been looking through lots of topics. When I switch on the phone it's not booting android guy lays on his back. Download mode and Android Recovery are in my range.
I've been trying to flash stock-firmware from sammobile.com with ODIN but no effect , I mean It all went OK in Odin Operation list than fially phone reset and PASS. But this android guy is still laying on his back and making fun of me xD
Before trying to get back to stock ROM, I've had rooted phone and installed RR with 4.4.2 for S3, now I don't have a clue what shall I do next ...
Any ideas ? (the noob[me] have asked )

hello every one i have another gs3 with another boot loop issue. so on first sight the phone looks good. it will turn on and show the screen saying "samsung galaxy sIII" but after that it goes black and 3 seconds later it vibrates then another 3 seconds and it vibrates again and then 3 more seconds and the boot screen is back displaying "samsung galaxy sIII". it will not boot in to recovery mode, however i can get to odin mode or download mode. it has never bin rooted, and it has stock rom, but i did try rooting it throu odin mode and it failed multiple times as well as the phone would display "unsupported format"? i have seen this before and it ended up being a power button and well i tried replacing that with no effect. i also noticed that when you do try booting the phone into recovery mode it will say "recoverybooting" in blue letters at the top left hand corner but just keeps boot looping, i need to recover the data on the phone since i was going to back it up but could not do it in time lmao!!!! any help or suggestions would be appreciated, i have bin at this for days now and my chances are looking dim :crying:
