I've read on another forum that a guy did this (not with the model of S5 that you have) and was successfull. He did this without root.
On the other hand, I've tried to flash the stock firmware of SM-G900M on my SM-G900T (T-Mobile), without rooting, and I've received a FAIL message on ODIN. So, now I'll try to root my phone and then flash the firmware. I don't know if it will cause any damage.
About the problem of the Mobile HotSpot, have you tried to go on Settings > Network Connections > Tethering and Mobile HotSpot?
My T-Mobile (SM-G900T) came without the toggle of the Mobile HotSpot, if this is your problem there's a way to add this toggle on the notification panel.

Hey Guys
On my AT&T I717 I unlocked it to work on Bell network in Canada. In the mean time I rooted my phone and now put it back to stock as I have given my phone to my sister. Now every 30 seconds or so there is a message that pops up saying something along the lines "AT&T Update available unable to connect to servers will retry when there is network connection. It keeps doing it over and over. I have tried just a task manager that kills this app but every time you kill it, it comes back. I have also tried to update it through Kies but of course because I rooted and put it back to stock it does not recognize the model to do the update.
What are my options can I just remove the app some how?
Should I root the phone and just install a different version of ICS?
Help Please
You don't need to have root access to flash a rom. Why not flash the stock Bell ICS?
I tried that but I can not seem to find a flashable ICS version of the bell flash.

You don't know how to use Odin to flash roms? Its very easy.
No I do and I have I am just saying I havent found a bell ics version to flash it to. If you know a link of a bell platform of 4.0.3 I would love to try it.

Hello, I would like to ask something.
I knew that recently Samsung has released 4.3 update for Samsung Galaxy SIII International Version. The 4.3 update hasn't reach my country yet. I would like to know is it possible for me to flash another country's official frimware? Is there any negative effects?
Meanwhile, if I flash the latest stock rom back to my phone, will it be unrooted?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes, you can flash a rom from another country -which includes a modem for another country. If the modem is unsuitable you will lose signal strength or even all connection.
Of course if you flash an unrooted stock rom then your phone will be unrooted, that's the whole point.
Unless you are confident in flashing modems and kernels I would not advise using 4.3 yet -it isn't reliable unless you can replace both.
Thanks for the quick reply
In that case, is it possible to flash just the ROM without the modem/baseband? (SamMobile ROMs come with seperate PDA, Modem)

If your current baseband is EMGx or later then yes, you can flash just the rom.
Alright.
Thanks for your help

I have a completely stock AT&T S3 and am wanting to transfer all settings to a rooted and unlocked AT&T S3. I want to also get the latest Android for both phones and be able to unlock and root the stock phone after transferring everything.
Can anybody walk me through the steps for the above procedure?
I'm somewhat familiar with TWRP, less ADB and ODIN.
Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate it.
Wrong forum this is I9300 see sticky top of the page .

Hello,
I bought a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 SM-G900T recently and want to know if is it possible to flash a stock firmware of another model to my cellphone?
For example, if I flash the firmware built for SM-G900M to my phone, can it cause any damage?
Thank you very much!

You asked all of these questions in a previous thread Kjc99. And I answered them at length. But you seem intent on ignoring the parts that you didn't want to accept.
Your 900T will work fine on another carrier if it uses the same frequency bands. You won't install a baseband from a 900M. You can change a ROM if you wish. And you won't get a TMB OTA with a Trinidad CSC and no OTA signal.
It's your phone, so have at it. But if you still intend to try flashing a 900M bootloader onto your 900T, you will just brick it.

Hello -
I have a Samsung galaxy S4 SCH-I545L currently on android 4.4.2. This is a phone on an independent rural carrier that uses Verizon's LTE. The OTA update does not have the 5.0 update available, nor does Samsung kies. Is there a 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 stock ROM available that will work with this phone - and if so, is there a way to upgrade to this without having to wipe the data?
Thanks all
Help!?

So you don't get the ota update via the phone
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
No - it says "The latest updates have already been installed". And that's because it is not Verizon - it is a smaller independent cellular company that uses Verizon's LTE. Galaxy S4 SCH-I545L

Are you rooted do you have Safestrap installed.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
No - Phone is not rooted, but it wouldn't be a problem to root & install safestrap if knew I could go to 5.0.x

The problem is that I guess you might have to wait till your company has it available. I would contact them. You can flash via Safestrap but I don't know if the phone would get messed up or bricked.
You can try it but not recommended.
