I love my dear Rezound, as it has helped me so many times, and maybe might've even saved my life at one point. I am the only 1 out of 5 lines who is not tied down to a contract and does not have a Samsung Galaxy S III or Note 2, because I love this phone that much. But the problem is, after 6-7 months after I got it, it fell down on the concrete sidewalk and cracked the screen. It was only two really small hairline cracks, so I didn't think anything of it, only the occasional annoyance that I dropped it whenever I watched a YT video. I was fooling around with a bunch of my friends, and it fell out of my pocket, now the screen's broken to the point where if I touch it, I can sort of like...feel the screen being pushed down. The touch screen still works, and I'm planning to get it replaced at a local mall sometime this month. So I was wondering...if the store rips me off and uses just a cheap screen, will the display be bad? Will I not get that same, cool, color as I did when it wasn't broken?
TL;DR if a store that fixes phones uses a low quality screen, will the colors not be the same as it was before?

it depends on the service at the store. If they charged less than $50 to replace it. 9 times out of 10 it was just the glass.
if it was more. then they did replace the lcd. A lot of the times they will buy OEM but you do have the off chance of getting a China knock off.
tl:dr it is quite possibly they did replace with a bad lcd. Most places offer a warranty on it so i would go talk to them.
If just the digitizer is cracked and not the LCD, then they should just replace the digitizer and all the colors and richness will remain. The only Rusk is dead spots on the touch screen which if its a reputable store should have some kind of warranty I would think.

Cracked my screen on my ultra yesterday. Dont know how it happened. Pulled it out of the pocket and found hairline cracks.
Had the Sony Z1 and same thing happened.
These Sony screens must be the worst quality in the high end business. What is extremely annoying is that the cracked screen makes the phone unreceptive to touch actions from your fingers. I was left stranded for a whole day with no communication.
Ive cracked my iphone screen previously but even with heavy cracks and iphone still works. A small hairline crack on a Sony however renders it useless. It is for this reason I am not going to buy another Sony phone.
I don't mind the fact it can crack but to crack randomly and not work at all after a crack is unacceptable. Looks like back to the Iphone or Note 4 for me.

Post a picture of it if you can, it's pretty easy to tell how the screen broke if you examine the cracks.
It really seems like this may be a production fault of a sizeable set of devices, while the rest are built better. I remember one person posting that Sony had acknowledged this to be a problem when a cracked phone was turned in for warranty repair and offered a free replacement. There's a bunch of articles about this. Seems to affect the Z2 as well, so I understand your decision. :/
I think it's such a shame - and I couldn't agree more.
I had the same thing happen to my Z2 while it was sitting on the bed, switched back to my Z Ultra now and I'm constantly worried about the same happening with that. It seems to be a common problem across all the z series phones which leads me to believe it's down to the crappy dragontrail glass they use, I wish they'd use gorilla glass. My one x screen went through hell, even had a coke can(340 grams!) fall square on the screen from an overhead shelf a meter and a half above and was fine (to my amazement).
I know people are going to say it's glass it can crack (well yes - no **** sherlock) but the Sony glass just cracks to easily, either that or their qc is awful. I have to admit I was a sceptic and assumed people were just being heavy handed until I experienced it first hand, and I baby all my devices.
It's a shame because I love the Sony devices but I don't want something I have to carry around in bubblewrap, hopefully the next gen Samsung/Htc phones are waterproof then I'll jump ship.
Thing is Sony know about the issue, watchdog UK covered it a year ago but whether they actually replace it under warranty is a complete lottery. I have insurance but it's still unnecessary hassle
Use an ultra thin case, solves potential cracks. It's all about the amount of pressure in the pocket. A device this thin and large is more prone to cracking, obviously. The Achilles heel is located at the power button... Babying this device is a must, requires attention and dedication
Thanks Buddy. I was about to buy a Sony Z Ultra, bcoz of its larger display. I am a rough user of phones. Even on some second hand sales sites, I found some ads selling cracked screen phones ( nobody buys such cracked screen phone but ie different issue). I shall settle for smaller screen phones. Bye.

Have not had a single issue on screen cracking or anything of my Z1 and I had it for almost a year now.
I also cracked mine
I cracked mine by wearing swim trunks that were just too small for this phone and I sat down with it in the pocket and that was that. But i love it so I bought another. And I have just now finished turning my broken Z Ultra into a media center via XBMC, and an MHL adapter. Im thinking of making a short guide soon because while the phone is useless without functioning touch input, the guts are stil powerful, and its a shame to let that processing power go to waste. This a very low power consuming device when compared to htpcs.
Yeah, I will be moving on to the Nexus 6 because of this. I love my ultra, but I am already on my second phone because my 1st cracked in my pocket. Two of my buddies also had their's crack in their pockets too. We are big guys that wear baggy pants, so it wasn't like too much added stress. I will keep my ultra, but will turn to the nexus 6 as my daily driver. Honestly I don't think it is a matter of if the screen on this ultra will crack, but a matter of when.
I suggest iron brick and abuse it silly
For those of you who've replaced your screens either DIY or via LG warranty replacement...please post how your screen quality and viewing angles compare to the original LCD.
I'll start...
1. On my Current G2, I had a perfect screen. Perfect viewing angles and excellent image quality with no defects
2. Ebay Replacement screen #1 had dead pixels and Mira lines.
3. Ebay replacement screen # 2 had horrible color. Almost black and white
4. Amazon replacement screen has great color & image quality but lesser degree of viewing angles.
It's hard to explain but easy to compare to other G2s and phones when you compare side by side.
After all these screen swaps in the last couple months I've decided to keep this screen and use the phone as is.
How does your replacement screen compare to the original one?
I got LG performed a "total refurbished" when I dropped and shattered my screen.
It came back and looked like new, no difference to the original.
After a shattered screen i got it replaced.two months waoting time.now have jdi panel but brightness is very low and have lots of screen bleed around the edges.the repairman did not do a good job but the panel itself is of lower quality.color and contrast ok but luminosity is about 70%of the original...not happy but no money for yet another panel...
Conclusion:dont drop the phone...
After having touch screen issues on my phone (no-touch zone, ghost touches), I bought a replacement screen for my D800 off eBay.
Got it replaced and so far, the quality (colours, brightness, touch accuracy) is very good. I'd say the screen is slightly more yellow than my original screen but it's by no means an issue.
The screen I got for my "new" Z3, is full of problems. It has press marks(areas on the screen which appear brighter/whiter) and the screen "flickers" on high brightness. My friend can't see it well, but I can very clearly see the screen going bright->dark->bright->dark slightly and very quickly.
Dropped mine and got it replaced at a cheap place in Bangkok.
Colours are the same, viewing angles are not as good, but
those doesn't matter to me.
Been 2 months dropped phone again, screen shattert again...
Biggest supprise: Touch is still working perfectly! Seems like the cheap replacement screen doesn't have the NoGap technology like the original ones haha. Seems like win win to me!

Thanks for the responses guys and sorry to hear about your screens.
Made a new poll. Please participate.
I'm trying to make a case that there are different versions of LCD panels made by different manufacturers.
They don't advertise which is which but we're starting to notice now that we're having out screens replaced.
I replaced my LG D800 screen with one from Amazon and the colors are slightly darker but other than that no big deal. I didn't do a good job with the replacement so there is definite light bleed on the edges and after four months of using it im getting ghost touches if I press on the lower portion of the screen. Don't think it's quite worth the $80 replacement to try again and get it right, just something I'll deal with until a new phone comes out and I can get it replaced all together.
Similar experience to laboratik except the repair was done at LG so the workmanship is good. But it is jdi panel and darker than the original.
Thank you guys for the responses. This thread should be helpful to others in our same situation.
The sad fact is that the market is flooded with aftermarket screens made by who knows.
Just compared my screen with the S6 Edge and have to say I'm very impressed with the image and color on this replacement screen however that's where the buck stops.
The reduced viewing angles are tolerable at best. I'd hate to remove this replacement screen send it back all over again...roll, dice pray I get a perfect match but unless I'm removing it from a G2 myself I'm starting to believe it's not likely it'll happen.
Check out this review on Amazon re: the screen I have.
This guy nails my current situation

I got a few of them from eBay, I can link you the buyer if you want, I've sold them and they are close to OEM, they only have one MAJOR flaw, they are thicker. While you'd think this wouldn't be an issue, they are thick enough to not be able to slip into most cases, so it's annoying.

That's the ebay seller I use for replacement parts.
So far the screens have been OEM quality( G2, GPro, AHD) I've bought a few from there, and they all have great quality, except for the thickness, they all seem to be thicker, this is probably due to it not being real gorilla glass, and just a knock off lol.
it looks like my replacement screen for LG service center has slightly lower sunlight legibility than original,
I dont know which panel is this, but brightness is reduced

After removing the Amazon screen and reinstalling the original one, I notice the Amazon one has slightly higher ppi/contrast with a smoother looking picture....WTH
Now if I can have that with the original screen's viewing angles I'd be golden....
Oh well....time to pack it back and return it back...will report back shortly

Hye guys. Im sorry if im in the wrong thread. Right now im in need for lg g2 d802 lcd full assembly replacement but im in tight budget right now. I can afford max for 60 bucks. ( im still depressed about losing my job though lol ) I've found several replacement at ebay from China that is under my budget but im in doubt if it is quality enough to be acceptable to be use in this great phone? I've heard about "crazy touch" issue too so im afraid if im not lucky enough to get one of those. Anyone here have experienced with these full lcd assembly from ebay? That one almost certainly looks like it will be a low quality replacement you will be unhappy with.
My personal opinion, if you want a full frame screen replacement....at least get one with the LG logo.
Saw one on ebay for 59.00 last night. The seller claimed to test them before they ship.

My shipment status says expected delivery Wed, Apr 15. Hope there are no more delays. Will keep the thread posted on how the screen performs.
So, I'll lead off by saying that I don't think I'm keeping this phone past the 90 day return policy from Lowes. It's very chunky and more importantly, the camera is only OK and the screen, although way better, and brighter, than I thought it would be, still doesn't hold a candle to an amoled screen..
What I want to talk about is performance and battery life/charging.
I know this is using a mid tier processor but I haven't been having any issues whatsoever. It's amazing the crop that Samsung and LG dump on top of android that I've gotten used to.. I feel this thing running faster than the note 7 and v20 that I'd been using recently...
The battery is superb... Amazing. Fantastic.. I don't know what else to say... Even with the screen on it seems to sip such a small amount of battery life... Obviously though, its a 4000 man battery, but still... I feel like I'm getting even more than I should... And ridiculously, for some reason, charging is a ton faster than the note 7 and v20... I don't get it...
Anyway, I think this phone is really good. For me it's just not a keeper but for many i think it may be perfect.
I'm getting mine on december 21, so can't tell if your issues are dealbreakers for me as well.
But from other complaints it sounds like mainly things that can be improved through software. Camera being the exception, although a lot can still be done there. Still looking forward to trying it out, but I have tempered my expectations.
Sounds great with battery though. I'm one of the people that decry the loss of removable batteries on phones, as it is much easier to bring a small extra battery, rather than a full battery pack and/or charger.
I agree, the super amoled screen on the Honor Note 8 is so much better. I just send the Phab 2 Pro back to Lenovo.
Dealbreakers for me was:
- Bigger and heavyer than my Honor Note 8.
- No theme support
- Poor camera
- Average display
- Loose power button (you can hear it when you shake your phone)
- No split-screen multitasking mode
I don't mind the phone being chunky. Matter of fact I kind of prefer it. After owning both the Xperia Z Ultra and the Zenfone 3 Ultra I find that they are almost too thin. The Xperia more than the Zenfone. I actually went through 3 Xperias because they bent and cracked in my pocket. Having a screen this big means it needs a body to help support it. I agree on the camera, however I do think after the last software update it is getting better. I find that using the lenovo camera app takes adequate pictures, still not on par with some better phones, but good enough.
How is the Zenphone 3 ultra? Still didnt but it, because the specs are not so great (1080p screen).

Love it better than the Lenovo. The screen isn't bad at all. Actually think it looks better than the Lenovo. I only have two issues with it. The finger print sensor, while very accurate, is on the front button so sometimes gets a little hard to get use to. Second, there is lack of North American LTE bands. AT&T's HSPA network lacks in my area. To the point that the phone is unusable unless on WiFi.
This phone's got great battery life. Took it off the charger 20 hours ago, carried it on a 900 mile road trip, all radios on. 3p minutes of phone calls, 10 of video games, 4 hours of listening to music & battery still has 60% (1½ days) remaining.
My Z2 fell down from a 1 storey height last day . The phone is still usable but the screen is cracked on the top right corner. The touch is not working on that side. I can't swipe down the quick settings from there. There's a little touch issue at the bottom right side also I think. And the back glass is almost completely broken. I had applied a carbon fiber sticker on the back earlier so the glass is still there fixed.
Also the fingerprint scanner is not working. There's a scratch there too. But the press function of that button is working. The shape of the outer frame of the phone is changed a little bit.
I just reset everything again and flashed AOSiP-9. Except the fingerprint and top and bottom right touch everything is working I think. I'm posting this thread from my phone so it is still usable.
I want to know how much will it cost for the front screen, back glass and a new fingerprint sensor? I went to the nearby Lenovo service center but none of these parts are available there.
Just found that the it'll cost between 2500-3000 for all these parts. The screen is also broken a little bit. So both the touch and screen should be replaced.

I bought a pre-owned OnePlus 7T yesterday after long-time research. It has almost everything I like. The only issue is that the lack of custom ROM development support but I'm waiting.
Meanwhile the back camera of my Z2 too also stopped working. I replaced the fingerprint scanner and the touchscreen myself with another dead Z2's parts. All the area is now touchable but sometimes it freezes too much. Now I can use the Z2 almost okay, so I'm still using it as my daily device with AOSiP-9. I decided to use as long it can run without any serious issues.

I paid ₹ 30k. It has extra accidental and screen protection worth around ₹2000. The first owner bought it in October. If you are buying a pre-owned you should not spend more than 31k even it has extra protection as it is available in Amazon for around 35k, and with credit or debit card you can almost save around 1.5k to 2k. But please check Amazon for the card offers.
I chose 7T over 7 Pro and K20 Pro because of some personal reasons. But I recommend if you are upgrading from Z2 and you can afford, please buy this as it has almost all a flagship needed and doesn't have any extra gimmicks like motorized pop-up camera. Because only a few phones have this motorized type of cameras and the current trend is having a punched hole camera. The notch is a way ahead of this punched holes because you don't feel that much distracted with notches. I tried latest Samsung phones and I felt too irritated with those ugly punched holes. A few upcoming mid-range phones are coming with these as per some news. Anyways these are just my personal reasons.
I'm quoting my own text that I replied to someone.
"Yes bro, 7T has almost everything which I wanted and lacks only a very few things. Like it has a
+ non-popup camera so faster face unlocking
+ 90Hz of course
+ stereo speakers
+ 3 cameras with a wider one and now with a super-macro mode
+ OIS
+ less weight compared to 7 Pro
+ 855+
and pretty much everything a flagship needs. The only thing I miss is the QHD display. I have a VR/AR device so I wanted to use it for watching movies like in a theatre. The QHD display has less pixelated view compared to fHD for this use. But compared to other specs it is not a deal."
