Hello,
I bought a Lenovo P780 some days ago from china.
The phone came with many pre-installed Chinese apps that simply annoyed me, moreover I kept getting email has stopped, settings has stopped error messages. It was running on a VIBE firmware.
I checked online on how to Flash the phone to international version and downloaded some ROMs to do the flashing.
I managed to get the Flashing done, with this ROM, P780_ROW_S110_130629, but afterwards the Phone was completely unusable.
The problems are as follows,
1. The Phone does not boot up at all after pressing the power key, nothing on screen!
2. Pressing the power and volume keys shows nothing!
3. when plugged to the computer, i get the USB device not recognized error message! (I have all the necessary drivers installed)
The computer only see the phone as follows, Alcatel Single RNDIS Interface in the USB Device not Recognized window.
4. The computer keeps playing the plugged in devices sounds, plugged sound the followed by unplugged sound, repeatedly, and that is when the phone is still connected.
It´s only later I found some tip saying that one cannot flash a device produced 03.2014 and later with the ROM I used. Mine happens to be such a device Prod. Date 09.03.2014!
I have read through some almost similar problems but have not encountered my specific problem.
I am hoping to have someone who knows a workaround share with me how to get the phone back up running. I will highly appreciate your Help.

Found solution
1. Restored the comp to 3 days ago, before installation of any drivers
2. Downloaded and installed this driver, http://www.mediafire.com/download/lbdo0sglhdhrje9/MTK+Divers.rar
3. Downloaded my ROM here, used this one, P780_S123_ROW_131231
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/lenovo-p780-2/
4. I downloaded a newer version of Flashtools from this forum,
5. I downloaded this preloader,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2744499&d=1400125492
6. I prepared the files for flashing as usual, (USB speed set to „do not switch speed“), changed the preloader´s location to the one I downloaded, (Trying to flash with the one in the ROM gave an error)
7. I removed the Phone´s back cover, plugged the usb cable to the phone, and holding down the reset button, connected the usb cable to the computer
8. Then released the reset buton and VOILA!, the flashing began :fingers-crossed: and ran without any errors.
9. The greatest moment was to see the phone reboot fully after this. :victory:
After rebooting and connecting to the internet, I upgraded the FW and everything is running smooth.
I liked the preinstalled VIBE ROM, only that it had some flows here n there, plus the preinstalled Chinese apps annoyed me! I am now getting used to the original P780´s ROM.
Anyone who lands in my previous mess,- Flashing with wrong ROM and cannot get Phone to boot up, or get it recognized by PC, can try out my solution, of-course at YOUR OWN RISK!
PS, Always take time to inform yourself fully before performing this task, it will save you some Headaches!

So you can confirm that the P780_S123_ROW_131231 version works on a Chinese model ?
No problems with bad signal, SIM not detected and so on ? I'm trying to figure out if it is safe to go ROW.
And as I see your steps, it would also be an option to remove the drivers again I think.
For me, it worked by simply plugging the device into a different port, and then I could install the drivers (as a regular Mediatek USB device, not as the Preloader device).
......confirm?.......

I can confirm with my device, I bought it directly from China and as I mentioned earlier, it had several Chinese apps that really annoyed me. I was really stressed up trying to configure what to do. But after reading several forums and stitching the different opinions together, I managed to do what I did earlier on today and everything is working out fine.
I had not done any backup of IMEI and co before flashing my phone yesterday, and that worried me the more. But after re-flashing it with the above ROM, everything got back together and even the IMEI was found automatically without further hustles.
Please do some more reading before trying my steps, my tryout worked good with my Phone, cannot tell whether it will with yours!
Saying this coz am not really sure whether the date written at the bottom of the Accu. represents the phone´s production date!

Well pretty sure the unbricking works, you got the preloader from my post
I'm now testing with VIBE 1.5 (KitKat), pretty good (almost not Chinese there) but some battery issues. Next step is to find out if I can get the 3G 900Mhz band to work.
Not sure if I'm going to switch to ROW, don't see any reason now.
Thanks for the feedback!

Sure it worked out just fine. Didn´t notice you were the same person with almost the same problem in the post with the preloader.
I will be checking out this pages to see how the Kitkat versin goes. Am am curious just how it will be.
Have a great week!
Thank you, you saved me!
I have bricked my lenovo p780 while trying to change the rom.
It was shipped from china with Vibe rom, I tried to install S113 rom and the phone went dead.
I have followed your guide and it worked. The phone is working!!!!
Edit: Just to add some more details in case some one else is having the same issue.
I made it with windows 8.1, drivers from this post, and S123 Row rom.
Then the firmware had 5 or 6 updates to 4.4.2 Kit Kat.
I have 2 more to go.... Total of 3 phones. Will update if any changes are found.
Also I will keep the software in case some of the links does not work or the code can't be found.
i dont understand the part where you hold the reset button and release it.

help flashing not starting and plugin out sound is coming
I know this is a very old thread, but, I was fixing up a P780 for a friend (he was constantly getting gapps.com stopped working and such) so I flashed some (stock?, Lenovo_P780_S115_MT6589_20130807) rom I found via SP Flash tool. It worked fine. So the next thing I was supposed to do was write IMEIs back, and for the life of me, i couldn't get that to work ( i would always get to "start searching kernel com port and handshake", and after that would get something like enter AP meta mode fail default, or something like that) so I started looking for alternatives, and found that one of the easiest ways is to root the phone, and install mobile uncle or MTK tools or whatever, anyway, I download twrp, flashed it using SP Flash Tool, and now the phone won't turn on, can't be detected by the Flash tool, it is in a way detected by windows (Unknown USB Device, Device descriptor Request failed), although it sort of goes on an off. LED lights up when connected to a charger or PC via USB

OK.. So here goes.
Decided to finally update to a Gingerbread ROM (going with openOptimus). Got the ROM flashed, rebooted and went to flash the new baseband.
I let all devices finish installing, then disabled the USB modem in device manager.
I ran LGMDP, following the directions as per ciaox's thread, got to step 13 - "click on download, select port". I selected my phone, pressed connect. It started doing the download, the phone went into emergency mode, then the program came up and said it lost communication to the phone.
I now have a folder in the same folder as the LGMDP with the serial number of my phone, and in there is a "DownloadInfo.ini" and a "NV_P500h_20110814-100506.nv2" file that's 180KB. Is this normal? I didn't want to go any further due to the message about not being able to communicate with the phone. The USB cable did not disconnect at all (I made sure not to touch it while it was doing it's thing).
I haven't done anything else with the phone, it's still in emergency mode.
Am I SOL or is this "normal"?

OK.. So I tried the download again, it went through amss burning, etc and showed my IMEI when processing, but the BlueTooth MAC was blank :S
It seems to have worked though, it got download completed, I rebooted the phone and my data is working anyway, haha
I was just worried where it had lost communication during the download that I was screwed. Looks like I'm good though!

As you can see from my account, this was my first post.. I've been lurking the whole time, hahaha.
I've been able to get everything else figured out on my own, I've been messing with the phone since I got it in March (cooked my own ROM right after I got it, just for myself.. Nothing special just with init.d support and some of the fluff system apps removed), but had not needed to mess with the Baseband as the ROMs I was messing with were all 2.2 roms.
I finally decided to take the plunge to Gingerbread, so far no problems!
Thanks again everyone, I was just looking for the re-assurance more than anything
Hi, I think I am in deep trouble now. My p780 8gb is completely dead after trying to flash a TWRP recovery in to it using a flash tool. Not sure what went wrong I fiddled with some settings in flash tool like 'firmware upgrade' and 'download' and at last saw a Dram failed message. I was using the latest s226 Kitkat ROW. Now all I can see is a red led charging light glowing while connecting it to a computer. The device is not getting recognized by VCOM drivers so no use with flash tool any more. Tried to reboot in to recovery and meta mode but the phone simply does not turn on. Anyone knows how to unbrick this, kindly help.

Hi stympy,
Yes it is a 2014 January version. But to be honest I was using a ROM with 2013 version preloader but never faced any problem, Today purposefully changed it to the new 121kb 2014 preloader and everything was fine till I used the v5 flashtool to flash the twrp and I think I selected the upgrade option in it and flashed the twrp> found the ROM and preloaders from needrom.com from the uploader xxxsadistxxx .It worked flawlessly and then after first booting I configured the wi-fi settings again turned it off and tried to install the custom recovery. Now completely helpless because the phone is not getting detected by VCOM drivers.

Hi. The think was someting like this:
0. Unzip/Unrar those 2 archives.
1. First i install the .exe file from archive LenovoUsbDriver_autorun_1.0.10.zip. Reboot PC.
2. Plug the phone to your PC and new hardware wizard has appeared. Install the drivers by pressing automaticaly search the drivers.
3. Now power off the phone, and open the Device Manager, in Ports section.
4. With the Device Manager open, plug the phone this time powered off.
5. At this time in Device Manager/ Ports section, appeared for a second or two not in USB area something with.. MTK65...
6. Double Click fast on it because that will desapear very fast . If you missed the click for the first time unplug and replug the phone after about 5 seconds.
7. After you clicked on it all you have to do is update driver from MTK_USB__Driver_GOOOOODDD.rar archive, and voila you have drivers installed and now all you have to do is to flash you ROM.
Hope this will help you.

Hi thanks a lot stympy. I am glad that you were spending the time and effort to help me. I saw that red button trouble shooting post in your TWRP thread and luckily for me after clicking on different options in device manager while setting a complete format in sp flashtool the device suddenly got detected and format was done. After the format the device has lost its imei number, BT code and Wlan codes. That was going to be a hectic job to reinstall imei with imei repairing tools and usage of Hexa editor for BT and wi-fi codes just because some drivers were not getting installed properly.. But to my sheer luck I had a "Data' back up in TWRP with my previous version prerooted rom . I was not that confident to get a restore of imei , BT and wlan codes because it is just a 'data' back up not full ROM. I ticked the md5 checksum and voila after installing the back up 'Data' everything , absolutely every single code in my p780 got reinstalled automatically .LONG LIVE TWRP DEVELOPERS......... May be even after formatting the complete flash drive of the phone it still keeps the imei and other codes in factory mode. I am not sure. Now phone is in perfect condition and I am ready for another go. Stympy please create a 2.7.1 twrp for 2014 preloader p780 8gb. thanks again for all your help

Hey Stympy, you seem to know quite a lot about this! I have the same problem with my p780 4GB. After flashing everything seemed ok, as I got a green circle in SPFlash tools. However now I am not able to boot anymore. When connecting my phone to my computer the red light goes on and Device Manager shows a new MTK USB Port. When pushing the red button it immediately disappears. Does not matter if I push it for 20 seconds, as soon as I let go its bak in device manager.
When trying to reflash using SPFlash, it seems to recognize my phone, but when trying to format or Upgrade or Download, the red bar only loads up to 141776 Bytes and stops. Sometimes I have to push the red button for the phone to get recognized.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
ps: CMIIT ID on the battery says 2013xxxxxxx so I guess its a 2013 model?

Hi. Can you tell me what firmware did you have ?
From what you described your phone seems to be from 2014. This are the simptoms when the preloader is messed up.
Look what you should try:
Download from here the preloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/help/lenovo-p780-chineese-speed-version-t2874161
Replace your Curent ROM preloader with the one you downloaded.
Drivers from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/len...ial-kitkat-t2835605/post55587780#post55587780
Try this one and tell me if somethin goes wrong.
Waiting for Reply.

Fool me. I've tried to run CN on russian LiFE ROW with TWRP. You can laugh very loud.
1. unbricked with P780_S136_140306_Lang
cleared IMEI
2. IMEI recovered with Droid Tools
after reboting no gsm signal
3. NVRAM recovered from backup
No success.
SIM cards works fine on other mobile, 911 cal also work on this phone
now running on:
ROM: P780_S226_Life_XVIBE_by_Xakep
Baseband: P780.V23
Last idea is clone p780 (colleague has one) with IMEI change, mac address and sn. Now with which tool it'll be easier?
success

Hi Folks
I just bought my girlfriend a Redmi Note 3 SE (Kate) quick back story, she received it turned it on added a pin to it got called away, when she got back to it she couldn't remember the pin, bad news is she hadn't yet turned on Developer Mode or USB Debugging.
Original SW - MIUI 7.5 android 6.0.1, at least that's what the Ali product page says (Sorry it seems I can't post a link to the actual product)
This began last Friday, since then she has tried the following:-
Installed MI Suite and registered a gmail account - so far "device not recognised"
Applied for an Unlock code.
Unlocked the boot loader which seems to have been successful.
Flashed two different (stock) ROM's which completed successfully but both stuck while booting the phone.
One was:-
"kate_global_images_6.12.29_20161228.0000.00_6.0_global" not sure what the other was.
On trying a different ROM today she's now getting the following error:-
"Can't Flash in miflash. Not enough storage is available to process this command"
Tried different versions of the Flash tool including the Beta version but still getting the same error on each of them.
Ticked the "Clear Data" box in the Mi Flash tool but that doesn't help.
A bit stuck on what to try from here and any help would be greatly appreciated if you need any more info please let me know.
I had the same bootloop problem with the stock firmware and miflash and driver was a pain to get sorted out.
What versions of miflash have you tried and which firmware did you download from xiaomi?

Hi thanks for the reply, unfortunately I need to wait for an answer on that as she's not around at the moment, but from what I can gather she has tried miuiflash 1, 2 and beta and i know she tried this which I'm assuming is a firmware - kate_global_images_6.12.29_20161228.0000.00_6.0_global (if it's not please let me know what we should be using) *edit, mind you that's one of the files that got stuck showing the out of space error.
I also forgot to mention the PC is a win 10 64bit..
Soon as I can get you a better answer on the above I'll post it.
I would have them try this version http://bigota.d.miui.com/V8.1.1.0.M...DI_20161202.0000.00_6.0_global_ac46ea44bd.tgz it's the latest fastboot ROM.
Make sure when you install miflash you are running in test mode so the drivers install properly and accept any prompts about driver signatures. That is important. I believe MiFLash_v20160401 worked for me. Also you know when you're in EDL when the front LED flashes red now and then.

Ah so it wasn't a firmware, alright I've passed this on as soon as I hear back I'll post here, many thanks.
I just checked the link for the 8.1.1.0 Firmware but it gives a 404 error on the page, I'll look on their site for an alternative, but if you do know of an alternative please let me know.
**edit Never mind a right click and copy link location got it.
So the issue looks to be solved, so firstly many thanks "theoneofgod" for your input.
Unfortunately due to a rather dodgy internet connection I haven't managed to get further into it, but here is what I received:-
"I used the same Kate and used miflash beta version.. i did the same as i did on first attempt.. after succesfully flashing it, i turned it on (result:same stuck on booting)
i switch it back to fastboot mode.
flash it.
result error.
i then press power on for about 5 seconds or till the mi logo appeared.
unplugged the USB cable and plugged it in again.
then phone booted.
and
When miflash beta version recognized my phone as just a device not com port. i flashed it. (it was just flashing endlessly)
So i tried to refresh the page, it then showed my device with an id as com10 (I have a feeling this might be the important part)
i flashed that too, and then it worked didn't get that error " no storage" anymore.
I'm not sure though if that helped
Basically I'm saying that i was flashing 1 device with two different id.
So I'm thinking simply the device refresh actually did the trick, anyway it looks to be solved, that was 3 days of no fun, and that whole thing about hey submit an application for a bootloader unlock and then wait 2 or 3 weeks and we might even refuse it lol.
Thanks again for your help "theoneofgod" thanks meter pressed.
I beat my head against this for about eight hours yesterday and am at my wit's end. Thanks in advance for any help.
The short version: After rooting my Blue VIvo 5, installing a few apps and setting Nova Launcher as my launcher, I started getting some errors. Apps would fail mysteriously or not launch at all. Reinstalling the apps didn't help. I tried to take an OS update that the phone said was available, but when I tried to update it said the system was damaged and I couldn't install the update.
Well, I thought naively, I'll just remove all my user data and start over. That will restore the original ROM and I'll just start over, right?
BIG mistake.
Now when I try to start up my phone the sequence goes like this:
1. I get a popup that says "Unfortunately, Carefree Launcher has stopped."
2. After clearing that popup I can choose my language.
3. Next I go tot he screen where I choose my wireless connection. Choosing the connection works, but the next screen where I put in my password only allows me to speak - there's no keyboard option. The only time during the process I really laughed was when I saw what Google's voice recognition software tried to enter for the wifi password.
4. I managed to get the password entered by using the OTG dongle and a USB keyboard. After that, though, it goes to the "Checking for updates" screen, at which point it tells me "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped." Then it loops back to the "choose your network" screen.
5. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I managed to get TWRP installed and running, but the stock ROM file I found on another thread (BLU_V0050UU_V09_REPAIR.zip) won't install. SP Flasher (which I also tried) throws a message about a mismatched baseband unit of some kind, and TWRP says there's a file called META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary missing from the archive.
So here I am, asking the community what I can do short of laying out $200 for another phone. I might be able to install the AOSP or CM12 ROMs that are in this forum, and I might do that if I have to replace the phone anyway, but if there's a way to restore the phone to its initial OOB state, I would love to know how to do it.
Again, thanks for any help you can give me.
Update, 16 hours later: I had a flash of inspiration this morning. Since it looked like at any rate I was going to have to get another phone I went ahead and ordered the replacement for same-day delivery. It arrived this afternoon, I unboxed it, set it up and backed it up with "adb backup". Then, I tried to restore the backup onto the bricked phone.
You guessed it. I never saw a notification that the backup was loading. It was the same wifi network, check for updates, broken google play loop again.
So unless someone has a brilliant idea as to how to restore the original firmware, I am going to keep the old bricked phone around and try installing aosp or cm12 on it, whichever looks like it's further along. Maybe both. Why not?
Anyway cheers.
Do you not know how to use SP Flash Tool?
Download the original rom + SP Flash Tool from elsewhere in this forums and flash it. The one for the Gionee S6 or A55 slim on the Marshmallow thread will do. I think someone has posted the original vivo 5 ROM somewhere as well.
Basic steps are open SP Flash Tool.
Load the scatter file (comes with the rom). This will fill a lot of fields in the flash screen (boot, recovery, logo, system, userdata, etc.).
Do not change anything. Click "Start"—this will wipe your phone. If you don't want it wiped, disable the "userdata" field.
Connect your phone properly turned off.
It should detect your phone right away.
Wait for the flash to end.
Disconnect your phone and turn it on.
Should boot alright.
If it doesn't detect your phone, see in Device Manager if your phone is properly recognized. If it's not, download the MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM drivers.

Thank you for your reply. In answer to your quesiton: Maybe not. Everybody starts somewhere, and while I have quite a few years of experience in desktop computers, I'm still learning the world of Android. I've flashed quite a few Kindle Fire tablets (that's the origin of my user name, 'nerdfire') but this has been my first experience with a phone.

I've got SP Flash running, but it's the Linux version. which I think is the same, as Windows except that it looks like there's a "Download" button rather than a "Start" button. Unless I'm missing something, which could easily be.
I followed the directions above, not checking "userdata", and hit "Download." No response from the program for over 30 minutes. I eventually found the timeout setting, lowered it to 2 minutes, and ran the program from a console window. The console output indicated that SP Flash was finding the proper USB port, but then nothing. No communication with the phone and the program eventually timed out.
It could be a lack of drivers. Linux comes with drivers for most common USB devices baked in, but this might not be one of them. Thanks for the hint - I'll check when I get home later tonight.
Again, I appreciate the help.

I have no experience flashing with Linux, but that definitely looks like lack of the right drivers. Maybe following this tutorial will work for you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...torial-how-to-setup-spflashtoollinux-t3160802
The thread says you need to know the specific way to boot up after connecting the cable, depending on the phone. On the Vivo, my experience is that you don't need to press anything, just connecting the cable with the phone powered off will do. However, if you happen to brick your phone by flashing something wrong, or interrupting a flash, you'll need to press volume down upon connecting the cable.

I did a little digging and won't go through all the gory details, but the long and short of it was, after removing a package in my Linux distribution that was interfering with accessing the serial port, I was able to flash the stock ROM onto the phone. So I am good to go. Plus, now I have a good idea of how to start over again if necessary

where can I find the stock Rom ? Can you Share link please?
Hey, looking for some help with my S8, it hard bricked a couple of weeks ago and ive been trying to reflash the phone with the stock rom downloaded from the Elephone website,
Im using SP Flash V5.17, i get the scatter file downloaded (red bar at 100%) and then it sits for a while before i get an error (Error, Status_Ext_Ram_Exception (0xC0050005).
Can anyone help?
Hey, did you get any luck?
maybe you can try this:
- make sure the phone is turned off completely
- load the scatter file in SP Flash tools
- activate all checkboxes (leave userdata free if you want to save any data) and press download
- Connect USB cable with the phone still turned off
- hold vol+ button while you turn on the phone
- with the other hand cross fingers :fingers-crossed:
I assume that the problem has been solved - one way or the other.
In case anyone else stumbles across this with a similar problem:
Prepare to lose all your data as the price for getting the phone back up and running.
But before you get to this:
Try other USB-cables, try different USB-Ports, even try a different PC (-> Driver-Problems!).
Make sure you are using short cables (max 1.5m) and that you are NOT using any USB-Extension or USB-Hub!
You will get the weirdes results if any of the above is not 100%
Now, if you are sure you dont have problems with USB, ports, drivers and cabling, you get serious:
In SP-Flash-Tool, go to "Format"-Section and format the phone (all except bootloader).
Go back to download and select "Format and Download".
Uncheck everything and step by step activate on checkbox after the other, each time flash what you have activated. Start with Preloader and work your way down over "recovery" through all the stuff there. Find out where you get problems.
Please also find all required files for rooting the Elephone S8 at:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/k1ldc..._root.rar/file
I hope this helps.
