s-off. need to ruu and back to flashing quick - HTC Droid DNA

long story short i have somehow lost the ability to receive full resolution pics via mms on any rom. so i assume at this point i can only ruu. im just having truoble filtering thru the threads. im s-off and on the most recent firmware running viper 4.1 atm. do i need to do anything special before i run torrented's ruu.exe? and what would i need to do after returning to stock ruu? please help. i usually never have any problems.

I used this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560010
Working without any issues. My sim card had to be replaced but I think that was the numerous attempts at loading firmware and other things

[Q] What are the correct steps to get to CM10 from stock rom hboot1.12?

Just as the title asks. I have run into a problem with my Evo 4G LTE when installing CM10.
first i ended with no service and couldn't activate, then firmware hardbrick. WilI take the phone to the sprint store later today, but i'll still be attempting this when I get it fixed/replaced. took the following steps:
0. phone activated at store
1. Regaw unlock/recovery/root
-at this point assumed CM10 needed s-off due to being JB instead of ICS or something
-went to unlimited.io's lazypanda. says needs stockruu 1.13
2. stock 1.13 ruu
3. regaw unlock again
4. feedpanda
5. CM10
Either before or after CM10, i PJ75IMG.zip'd the most recent radio. i feel the biggest issues were cause by my installing new radio, which lost me service, then trying to roll back to the old radio which bricked my phone. I'm pretty sure my biggest fault was messing with firmware stuff to begin with but just to be sure I'd like anyone's opinion on anything I should be doing because I obviously have no idea what I'm doing. Thanks for any replies.
Flashing radios is the #1 way to brick your phone. Your best bet is to do some more homework on phone flashing. Read, read, read and ask questions before you dive in head first. Since the newest hboots can be s-off'd, just update the phone while it is stock that way the firmware will be the newest. When you get the phone back, see what h-boot and software version it has and go from there.

Need to upgrade wife's phone(hboot, radio, build, firmware, etc.)

Hello everyone. My wife's phone is a Sprint 3VO running hboot 1,40, s-off, build 2.17, radio 0.97, running a Gingerbread ROM. She has never shown any interest in updating her phone until now. How can I update her EVERYTHING? Because she wants to be on the latest firmware and hboot so she can install and run NegaLite BluROM like I have on my phone. I started to get into it, but jacked things up, and had to go back and reset everything to where it was, thanks to user Astriks' help.
While I have flashed many ROMS and achieved permanent S-off on my handset using the wire trick, it has been quite a while since I had to do anything more complicated than flashing zips. I am not sure where to begin or how to proceed. I searched for threads, but all I cab find is bits and pices relating to the various things that need to be done to my wife's phone.I am trying to compile it all in one place.
Any help, links, instructions/etc. would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Since her phone is S-OFF already you can use this guide to update to the latest RUU, including all firmware, as well as a custom hboot and recovery. It shouldn't take very long and one you finish that her phone can flash and boot pretty much any ROM.

You, sir, are awesome. Thanks!

[Q] SMS/Phone Issues when not using Sense

Howdy,
I've currently got an Evo 3D CDMA on Sprint, Revolutionary S-Off and downgraded HBoot. I'm experiencing issues when I try to run any ROM that isn't Sense-based, or any Jelly Bean ROM, I'm not sure. I've tried several of the "current" ROMs out there (Dirty Unicorns, PACMan, Wild for the Night, etc.) that have 4.2 and none of them allow me to receive SMS or MMS, or place or receive phone calls. I can apparently send SMS correctly, however, which is interesting. I've tried (and am currently using) booting up a Sense ROM just so I can update my profile and radios and all that jazz, but even after verifying my network settings are correct, once I go back to anything nonSenseical, I lose all my phone's capabilities.
I posted this over in the general forum, but nobody had anything intelligent to say. I'd really appreciate suggestions - anything helps!
I hate doing it, but bump for great justice. I know this isn't exactly the most pressing issue in the whole wide world, but I'd love an answer...
You never mentioned flashing a firmware.
It sounds like a radio issue.
Find your relevant firmware here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447839
Make sure you have a ROM ready to flash and a backup of any important files before proceeding. Can't remember if it wipes phone or not.

These are just RUUs, yes? I did flash several RUUs as part of this process, are these different? Also, won't these re-upgrade my HBoot?

Nope RUUs and radios are different.
Flashing a radio won't upgrade your Hboot.
RUUs are rom packages from HTC which can for example upgrade your version of android, hboot etc
Radios refer to the android radio layer which is responsible for data connection, voice etc. Just make sure you flash the right radio for your location etc.
If in doubt which one to flash then ask. Flashing the wrong radio can brick your device.

Makes sense. However, when I downloaded the correct file from the link you provided, it flashed what very much appeared to be an RUU (trying to update my system, bootloader, recovery, etc.), and now my phone freezes at the HTC logo when it tries to turn on, and I don't have 4EXT installed on my device anymore. I'm currently trying to run the file through again, but it gets stuck at SYSTEM, unzipping and updating over and over again.
EDIT: All right, it now says OK on every bit except for "SYSTEM" where I see "Fail-UZ", and the 1st "TP" where it says "Bypassed."
All right, here's where I'm at now. After flashing this file to my device, my phone lost its recovery software and wouldn't boot, as well as not telling me "Locked," "Unlocked," "Relocked," or "Revolutionary" as it had before. I thought I might need to HTC unlock my device again, but flashing my unlock token didn't work, and I got an error when trying to install recovery software that the phone wouldn't allow it. I ended up flashing a 1.13 RUU simply to have something that works for now - currently when I boot into Fastboot I see HBOOT 1.40.0000 (which I had before), RADIO 0.97.10.0530, and I've got Gingerbread installed as my ROM. I'm going to try to reinstall CWM or 4EXT and put ICS back on at the very least.
EDIT: OK, when I try to flash Recovery I'm still seeing the same message "FAILED (remote: not allowed)." Apparently I've lost Root?
This is a strange one but from what your describing it seems that you have lost root.
If you can get an ICS RUU flashed and rooted you shouldn't have any problems with JB roms.
Edit: been doing some further research, these links may help.

So I ran a 1.13 RUU to get myself back to a working state, re-ran Revolutionary to get my "Revolutionary" banner back, and flashed a recovery. Then I flashed the 2.95 radios, and finally cleared everything and installed a 4.2 ROM with the latest gapps. Everything seems to be working, I can apparently call and text no problem - thanks for the tip on updating my radios.

Virgin Mobile (US) Returning to Stock Help!

Hello,
I have a Virgin Moblie version of the Desire 601, which I believe is Zara_CL. The phone is still on stock 4.2.2 but it is rooted. I've tried to get s-off but I always run into errors and I've given up on it (unless absolutely necessary).
The phone has gotten very sluggish and I want to wipe it out, preferribly with an RUU. I've found this Google Drive on this forum:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-kSF8g8H7KuME12ai1OVHVqd3M&usp=sharing#list
and I've downloaded the JB422 RUU. Will this reset my phone to stock even though I'm rooted? Also, could I just use the K44 RUU instead and upgrade to Kitkat, or do I need to go back to stock 4.2.2 and upgrade via the OTA?
Thanks!
A kitkat RUU for US zara_cl was just released.

PS. Getting s-off was a pain in the butt for me as well. Anything thay interferes with the network will cause it to fail; antivirus, firewall (pc or router), parental controls. Check this main thread below as it has lots of help. Check posts from me or directed at me as I posted a lot here about my issues. I formatted my hard drive. In the end it was likely a parental control application I use to block porn on my laptop.

You can use either RUU. The newer one will upgrade you to KK, the other one will return you to stock JB like when you purchased the phone.
There's two things to note though ...
1) S-OFF will likely be easier to get on JB than it will on KK
2) Once you upgrade to KK you will NOT be able to use the JB RUU unless you are S-OFF (as you will need to downgrade your hboot to use it)
Also, you can try taking a look at this thread if haven't already to see if it helps with getting S-OFF.

Thank you both for the information!
Is there any reason not to do the KK upgrade? Does it run smoother or slower? Is root easy to obtain in KK?
I've heard there are some tighter restrictions on writing to the SD card with KK, is this easily bypassable?
I don't really care about S-OFF any more, as I don't plan on doing any ROMing.
Thanks!

No issues with KitKat and rooting is easy. Just install TWRP and then boot into it and reboot and it will tell you that it didn't find root and offer to install it for you. The current version bundled with TWRP is 2.40 and runs fine, but there is also a newer version or SuperSU, version 2.45, which you can use if you prefer and can be downloaded as a flashable zip from here.
A couple things to note though:
You will need to get a new unlock token from HTC as your hboot will be newer and the old token will not work with it (you'll need to lock the bootloader for the RUU to successfully run).
When you unlock, there's a few apps that will be removed because HTC decided to put them on the data partition which gets wiped when you unlock the bootloader.
The only stock app really that gets removed is the calculator. You can still setup and use the calculator widget, but no direct access to the app.
One benefit to S-OFF before upgrading to KK is that you can then unlock the bootloader without using htcdev and not have data get wiped.
On stock KitKat, yes, there is a setting that limits how apps are able to access the sdcard. Once you have root, install this app from the Play store and it will fix it for you.
Hmmm, I'm getting "Fastboot has stopped working" when I try to run the KK RUU. Luckily, it's still leaving my phone in a workable condition.
I'm gong to attempt the JB RUU then do the OTA if possible.
edit:
No luck with the JB RUU either. I think I'm going to give up for now and just stick with my slow phone.
Fixed! (So far)
I got back to trying to RUU again since my phone had gotten even more deathly slow.
Another thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-601/help/easiest-to-return-phone-to-stock-to-t2859051
said that you had to relock your bootloader before doing the RUU. Seems to have fixed it for me. I was able to run the Jellybean RUU without issue. I just wanted to post the fix for me in case others where having the same problem.
As Child's Play said in that other post:
Get into fastboot and type fastboot oem lock

[Q] Need Desperate Help to revert back to Stock Rom

So, my HTC One M8 is still on CM11, with S-On and rooted with TWRP installed. I have tried to update CM and it fails every time. I tried to revert back to stock by using HTC's RUU, but it fails every time and when it does I lose cell service and WiFi capability. I have Factory reset, which has restored my Cell service and WiFi, but I am still runing CM11. I have watched countless videos and tried to follow guides on how to revert but I simply cannot find one that's up to date, and on XDA I can't find the one pertanent to my CID Num, CWS__001. I am desperate and I really would just like to be on stock Rom again, is there anything that I can do? Does anyone have an idea of what can be done to revert?
You can't just run any RUU. The RUU has to match your CID and MID. In your case, it needs to be the AT&T RUU. If s-on, you also have to relock the bootloader to run the RUU. Also, the RUU needs to be greater or equal firmware version than what is currently on the phone (no "downgrading" allowed with s-on).
Find the AT&T RUUs in my Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432&page=6
Also, CM12 requires a certain hboot (I believe 3.19) in order to install. So if your hboot is older, that is probably why CM12 is not installing. The RUU will fix that. But you will then need to unlock the bootloader again, and re-install custom recovery, in order to be able to flash CM12.
