Hi,
I have heard that omate features over the air update (maybe called OTA?), which I suppose should be easy to use. I want to ask - how can I check if a new OTA update is available? How can I check my current version?
Will such update preserve all my contacts and calendar appointments?
I have omate 8GB/1GB in Europe 2100. I have flashed it with firmware TEST_RELEASE_Omate_2100_TrueSmart_20140314.zip (btw, was there a new firmware released, and I maybe missed it?)

To search for OTA update go to settings/system/about TS/wireless update and click "check for update"
You don't have to check for (F)OTA, system will inform you if it discover update.
Over the air update or OTA is well known system of update in iOS and Android world and it's working quite good.
You won't lose anything, your data, contact, pictures and everything else will be preserved.
And no, even Omate promised to upgrade TS by the end of last month they didn't do that - why I'm not surprised?

The 'about truesmart' option is available in the original firmware settings.
your screenshot shows the default android settings menu, which makes me believe you are not on the official Omate Software, which means you do not get the official over the air update.

You are running some unofficial ROM. Maybe Dees Bluetooth Tether or Loki's Unified. I don't know. I think you have to get back to stock if you want it. I advise you not to, there's nothing that special in OTA. You are most likely safer now than with the update.
Hey,
got mine TS (1+8GB 2100Mhz) last week.
My firmare: Omate_truesmart_20140513.103530_V2.0.
No ota available? The message says no updates available?!
Latest Kickstarter updates says: Omate_TrueSmart_V2.0_20140527 were the latest update.
I am confused.
Any chance to get the firmware elsewhere?
There ate at least two different versions produced in May and they each have their own unique hardwares, which are incompatible with each other and both with any other firmware builds. The 0513 firmware on yours is the build for what is referred to as "third batch" and the 0527 is found on the last batch so far - 4th batch. Both are version 2.0 OUI builds, not OUI 2.1 and neither is any better than the other. Both have wide open insecurity and Bluetooth stack coding failures and so forth just as in the original firmwares from back in January. There has been NO progress made on improving the TrueSmart firmware so far.
Since these hardware revisions require incompatible firmwares (flashing the wrong one will softbrick your TrueSmart) and there is no way to tell them apart, development of replacement firmwares has pretty much halted.

What was the article you read on this? The Sprint variety of the Note 3 got the NH7 (4.4.4) update about a month ago.
If you're looking for another update to the NH7, I haven't heard of any.
If you're looking to update to NH7, you can either do the OTA method (or use KIES, if that floats your boat), or you can head over to this thread and use ODIN to flash it onto your device. Be sure to follow the directions very carefully, as a number of people have done "half complete" flashes of the update. The typical culprit in this is using the Mobile ODIN version (which can't flash the updated bootloader) or by not completely powering off the phone before entering Download Mode (going into download mode from the extended "power off" menu doesn't always work correctly with this update).
Hope this helps!

Looking into the Christianity Today article (Dated Oct. 29th), it appears that they got their information from this Android Origin article (Dated Oct. 24th). While I don't know how trustworthy AndroidOrigin is as a news source (from the looks of it and from the few articles that I've read through on there), as there appears to be a lot of speculation in their articles. It also appears that they are working on outdated information, as the article writer doesn't seem to know about the Sprint NH7 update.
I would chalk it up to just poor investigative reporting on both the part of CT and AO. Sprint Note 3s are currently on the 4.4.4 NH7 update and probably won't receive any content/usability updates until 5.0 lollipop drops, save for security updates.

I'm honestly surprised that CT did such a poor job on their article... It seems like they mostly just summarized other articles, but left out some key parts and didn't link their sources. The Latin Post article(dated Oct. 24) that CT mentions talks about the lengthy process that applying TW is to stock Android and they emphasize the lengthy process that carrier integration is (although, the article that LP references is dated March 2013, so whether or not those timeframes are still applicable can be called into question).
This is my main gripe with online "news" publications... Unless they cite their resources in a very clear manner, you have no idea where they get their information from. Not only that, but they don't want to, because then astute readers would see that their just paraphrasing (often incorrectly) the original articles. The CT article didn't give a single link to the LP or AO articles. I had to do some google-fu to find them. It also appears that the writer didn't even do a simple Google Search for "Note 3 Android 4.4.4," they would've been pointed to this article, which clearly states that Sprint got the update out in mid-September. Now, there are carriers (and international Note 3s) that are just recently getting 4.4.4, but CT fails to mention this.
Sorry for my rant about online news sites, I just have been thinking about how sensational headlines trump any actual investigation. And not to mention that there's little-to-no accountability. Very few sites post retractions, and if they do, they're drowned out by the other 50 sites (that don't offer retractions) that copied the original post. I don't know what the best system of online news is, but it's definitely not what we currently have.

Thanks for letting us know. Does this solve the compatibility issue with apps like Google plus? Do any other issues remain?
I hoped this (compatibility) but it goes on to not be it.
You have to go on to process like this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58171613&postcount=10
I followed the instructions at the link above which were basically to root the phone, and add some mapping related files.
I then unrooted the phone so I would get future OTAs.
It is very unlikely the compatibility issue will be resolved. I am pretty sure these files were removed due to a Chinese government restriction, not an error.
Some reviewers had posted that the January security update was pushed prior to release, but I've had my 5X running since Tuesday and its still on the December patch.
I made sure to manually check for updates just in case and the phone didn't see anything. I'm connected to both data and wi-fi so I'm not sure what is up.
Has anyone received it other than pre-release folks?

See my thread here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/how-to/guide-kiw-l24-to-stock-t3318268
Bit of a newbie here, came across this forum when looking at new phones and was quite excited by the idea of being able to play with all that was available in the phone.
So I went and bought a 5x have got my unlock code but have not unlocked it just yet, I am UK based and so have the L21 and just wanted to check that the general consensus is to leave the thing untouched (except for a new launcher and a few apps installed) until I have received or somehow updated to the B140 update.
I couldn't work out in the other thread about returning to stock if the B140 for the Kiwi 21 had actually been released yet, couldn't find any downloads on the Huawei site for the UK.

Thought i want to give some additional info (if not known already) reagrding the N update coming for the A2017 models.
Today i had some FB conversation with ZTE Mobile Germany to ask some definitve answers for this update to come.
This is what they gave me :
1. When : end of january 2017
2. Which types : all of the types/models get a specific update
3. OTA or SD ? : will be an SD card update (so happy ROOTing guys, because imo the OTA updates are no longer coming after this upgrade to N)
4. Bootloader unlocked : NO (perhaps the advice to unlock it before the N update to be sure you have it unlocked)
5. Root option available in settings : NO
6. test version or the real stuff : REAL STUFF
7. DayDream supported : coming soon (https://vr.google.com/daydream/phones/)
Good news after all i think. Let's wait a little bit longer :cyclops:
@rikin93 can you confirm all of that information ? Especially about bootloader unlock ?
Here is the message
cheers !
ps : so all models get a seperate N - update
@raystef66 i believe you but @rikin93 is our ZTE Europe insider and few weeks ago he said that he got beta Europe unlocker so I wish to hear his position about your statement.

Will be supported in first release IMO and if not yet in the first release, it always will be possible to update it via SD when they update a new one. I don't see any problem in that matter.

For simplicity sake, I hope they do get rid of OTA. I think the SD card route would be better, and it allows people to update at their own leisure without nag.

Well we certainly see that here in the forums. If this is true, it will be good for them to learn.
I dont know what version the root and bootloader unlock is coming on so i will find out ASAP.
However, Nougat should be coming by the end of this month and a B10 update end of this week/next week.
And yes i was previously on a B03 bootloader unlock/root given to me by ZTE to test out and was working fine. My camera broke so i had to get replacement phone so i am off root for now till they release the official one so dont worry guys i will keep bugging them for information!
An SD update is not difficult, just move the update.zip file to root directory of sd card and then go into Settings->Update and the update will be listed there and is straightforward from then on.
B10 is indeed scheduled coming week.
Just got the phone
So, on yours opnion should I unlock BL/Root/xposed right now? Since it`ll be an SD update??
just got my A7 and started reading only today bout unlocking BL/rooting (done this in all my old phones before).
Thanks!

Of course they would all need a separate update -- the modems would all be different. What would be more important would be that some (U and G and maybe Chinese) are based on the same codebase, rather than separate ones. Then the updates would roll out with similar features in a similar time frame.

what? ok it's true most of axon 7 owners are power users but it's not how it should be done at all... OTA is the easiest way to notify your clients of your work, general and security improvements, you don't want them to bother on manually installing updates, you try to make sure everyone is up to date.
If this is true, I hope they mean for the time being, before rolling the update to everyone after through OTA. I don't read german so I can't really know if there are subtleties involved in the syntax.
By the way, weren't there a kind of community forum for european/german model through which we could communicate with the devs in english? or by email?

My comment was in the context of general public. There are far more axon 7 in the hands of layfolk than xda users. An ota is the simplest way to push an update through. While the steps are simple, i'm confident people will find ways to screw up copying a file to the sd card.

So i'm forced to buy an SD card to keep my phone up to date? That's not the way a company should handle their customers.
