Invisible defender screen guard aplicaction - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I must be really bad at this, but I've never succeeded in using one without leaving residue or bubbles. Any tips or past experiences worth sharing?

Do it in the bathroom. Run shower on hot for a couple of minutes. This will settle the dust.

Its all about your experience, you have to be patient with it... there's no wrong way, nor right way. Yes, you can't mess up but its not like its gonna dry up while you have it off the film. Unless you do wet installs, like me. I personally go with Zagg brands.
Some people use a very lightly soap install for dry application and then you squidgy the bubbles out.

Zagg and a smooth screen? How did he do it?
I was experimenting today with my zagg invisible shield. I hate the rubbery feel of a brand new zagg....but you can't beat the protection.
So I applied 3 coats of a small amount of Meguiar's Carnauba Wax. I figured, what the hell, I can always return the protector if it harms it.
Well the result is fantastic. After 3 coats, which took 3 minutes, I am very pleasantly surprised. The screen feels smoother than I can every remember it. Also, it seems that the wax OS finger print repellent....so the screen is staying smooth and very clean.
Id recommend any try it out, just be careful to keep the wax and the protector.
The car wax by nature, at least this brand....which is a popular brand, does not leave a greasy coating. I can't even tell there is anything on the screen.
Let me know what you think.
As a side note the EVO 3d screen is tough...just like my scratch free EVO 4G, that I never used a protector with.
I take care of my phones...but yesterday when I was disecting some tissue samples in my lab....another grad student dropped a razor blade on my phone. Didnt harm it....but I felt compelled to get a protector
I've got Zagg and it's a personalchoice for my phone. It works great but I remember the "not so smooth" feeling of it when it was first installed. But now it's smooth already (I use my phone ALOT!) but I'll keep this in mind for future reference.
So it does smooth out over time? Great....put it on today. Does the dots and streaks eventually disappear? You know the imperfections when you look at the screen from an angle?

The solution will cure and should disappear over time.
Why would you wax your phone? They make screen protectors that are just as, if not stronger like xoskins that don't require you to wax your phone.. Is that wax safe touching your face?
Yes it is fine, it does not rub off. It is car wax, the whole concept of car wax would not work if it rub off at a touch, and if it was harmful to the people using the wax to apply it to.
Car wax is used on playground slides, counter tops, etc.
I purchased a zagg....I got it purchased and installed from best buy for 15 dollars. Can't really beat that, considering the price included the install.
You know how the backing is 2 pieces? I have a line where those 2 pieces meet. Couldn't they have just made it one piece? Ugh. I'm annoyed.
Thanks Mr. Myagi, wax onnn, wax offf ...
I'm trying this now. Except i'm using turtle wax ice on the Zagg
Wax works
i tried liquid glass and this problem with the adonit stylus has been solved!! not to mention the benefit of elimination of excessive finger prints on the zagg.
the stylus now glides like butter

Photon Cleaning?

I know the subject sounds a little childish, trust me, it's not. First on my list after I removed OtterBox, I felt really bad. Photon is one sexy a** piece of equipment. Remember how Mavodo was the museum timepiece, this deserves it's place in the museum too!
Now, when I got the OtterBox, someone told me they quit using it because they found themself constantly taking it apart and cleaning. I do clean it always anyway right? Wrong. You have to take it apart, clean the phone itself including the "ring" around the top front (sensor, earpiece, lens). I also noticed the camera lens had a smuge (not sure cause I cleaned it before i put on case in the first place?)
Next you need q-tip, take the back of otterbox and clean both sides of lens cover (DO NOT POKE IT!) let it dry then take dry end of q-tip and wipe it clean. You should also clean both sides of the top cover. I held it up to light for smears before I put it back together BUT...........I noticed when I had bare Photon the screen was WAY better (Brighter and clearer) then when in the case.
I like to get nasty with my photon. I lick the screen and then wipe with my zagg cloth that came with my screen protector!

LOL...
I clean mine at least once a week and I take some time to admire the beauty of it without the otterbox while I'm at it..
mine gets dirty as well ( no protection on it what so ever ) i use a qtip with rubbing alcohol ( with the battery removed ) just a heads up careful when using solvents around cell phones since many solvents will actually break the bonds of the plastic and you will have a crumbly mess in your hands.

i should have but i didn't have a working camera on me... took me about a week to stop laughing at my dad.
Hand sanitizer makes a good cleaner. I usually hit my mopho up once a week with some purell and some canned air.
Sent from my MoPho. All typos are the phones fault.
I'll use my shirt to clean off the screen. Gets it nice and clean. Sometimes, I'll spray a wash cloth with a little bit of window cleaner and wipe the screen that way, then dry it off.
Glass plus with a micro fibre cloth for the protector of the otterbox. I do it every day.
Probably once a week i give the phone a proper douching by taking it out of the box.
I don't know about you guys, but I like to get all freaking fancy and just wipe smudges with the shirt I would be equipped with at the time.
Most of the time my phone's screen gets cleaned as I put it in or take it out of my pocket.
Lol, I use the Otterbox Defender, and find myself cleaning it a lot, but no biggie!!!
To be honest, I'm sorry I asked and feel like kicking myself. For as mush as I play with it and as mush as I claim I love it, wiping the screen every other day is not it. I think I will follow ScottieRotton lead and do the complete cleaning once a week.
As for Alcohol and the others, I would not suggest that route. LCD Cleaner (which is in the manual) is only a few $$$.
I buy the high count boxes of lens grade cleaning wipes. They are not very expensive and work well for everyday cleaning of the screen and body. Individually packaged so can be carried around about anywhere. Also use them to clean my tablet, camera, and other devices that I want to stay scratch free.
The wipes are convient and we have a million @ the office, I perfer the small spray bottles because they come with soft cotton cloth. I wash the cloths and reuse them so I have some at home, work, car, glasses case, ect. Come to think of it, its only like $5.00 with cloth, wonder if I can just find cleaner? Nah....

Screen Protector, not even worth it

apparently i own the DIRTIEST house in the world. ran the shower on hot for 15 minutes, and used 4, count em, FOUR microfiber "lint free" cloths directly from the package to my primes screen and wasted THREE screen protectors because there was more dirt, dust, and lint on my screen than a dryer sheet. soooooo, eff it. ill just pray the gorilla glass holds up. my phone didnt. but whatever. lol youve been warned, dont put on your screen protectors at my house...
You know those micro fiber cloths that are included are pretty crappy. Nine times out of ten they are your problem. I've noticed that some of then leave behind small micro particles.
I've found compressed air works really well to clear dust and diet when trying to put on a protector

You should have washed those Microfiber cloths a couple of times before you tried to get your screen perfectly lint-free. A lot of times there are lose fibers from the manufacturing process caught in the surface of those "lint-free" microfiber cloths, but they usually disappear after the cloths have been laundered.
Also, if you really want to get your screen perfectly clean you would be better off using a pre-moistened eye-glass cleaning cloth. They come in little foil packets like wet-naps and are 100% lint free and contain a mild solvent that will help remove any surface contaminant or dust. This kind of treatment might be overkill, (usually a damp microfiber works just as well) but it is almost guaranteed to get your screen clean enough to put a skin on with no trouble

I would recommend a screen protector. I believed the hype about gorilla glass and have lots of surface scratches in my screen now. I am now convinced that they never put gorilla glass on my prime. All the scratches I have gotten are from cleaning finger prints off my screen with a microfibre cloth I bought at Best Buy. I went to Best Buy yesterday to complain to them. They of course told me that my screen was scratched because of customer abuse. So I put some more fingerprints on my screen and told them to show me how to use the cloth on clean my screen. The guy took to cloth and wiped off my screen and bam, brand new scratches right along the side and bottom of the screen. The rep told me that wasnt right. He tried on screens of the display model and it never scratched. He took his keys and rubbed them on the screen and no scratches. I took my fingernail and rubbed in on the bezel of my prime and it scratched easily. Its like my screen is made from plexiglass or something. They contacted Asus Support for me and they want me to rma my tablet. Now I am scared that they are going to charge me to replace the screen claiming it is customer abuse.

Doesn't sound right. I've been very impressed by the Gorrila glass protection and I'm very surprised I do not have any scratches. I clean mine with a lint-free cloth also micro fiber all the time and there are no scratches. My screen almost looks wet when I finish cleaning it. I do love the screen.
Its funny you did that. I did that to a set of 3. Each one, I tried and had dust under the film screen protector. $12.00 down the toilet.
I did succeed after going to the dining room table, wiping it down with a damp cloth, used a short sleeve t-shirt, and a can of canned air.
So out of 6 screen protectors, I finally got one on perfect......
spend the money for a quality protector, Zagg, Ishield, etc. any of those "military grade" type protectors, usually are applied with a spray that activates the glue... After using one of these i will never go back to the cheap ones, they pretty much never wear out, are a hell of a lot easier to apply, and look better in the end because no air bubbles!
Also, Gorilla Glass can suck my left testicle, my SGS2 has a couple scratches because of the cleaning cloth i used (mocrofiber my ass), when i worked SELLING cell phones the demo phones (atrix, SGS1, iphone, etc) that we always carried in our pockets had the screens covered in scratches. Scratch resistant maybe, but definately not scratch proof.
A screen protector was the first thing i put on my prime. After what i have seen its worth the $20 investment.

Wow, what do you people do to your devices to scratch them so much? I have had my Droid charge for over six months and had my Samsung fascinate for near a full year before that and neither have a single scratch on them. In and out of my pockets all day every day, even dropped both of them on concrete more than once. I also clean my screen with my shirt and my jeans and have no issues at all. Even my prime I rub on my tshirt to wipe off the finger prints and screen is still flawless.

It's simple, just because you haven't gotten scratches doesn't mean you won't necessarily get them. You can close your eyes and walk across the street and not get hit by a car, that doesn't mean you're immune to car accidents.

My prime came with plexiglass like screen not gorilla glass. I've had my Samsung Captivate for a year and a half and screen still looks flawless. I treat my prime with much more care and I have hundreds of scratches from using a microfiber cloth to clean off my fingerprints. Evertime I clean my screen I get new scratches. I wiped a pop bottle with my cloth and it didn't scratch. The plastic of a pop bottle is more scratch resistent than my prime. Sending it in to Asus to fix. Bad batch of gorilla glass or something.

After hearing the stories here I'm glad the first thing I did was slap a screen protector on. I found a dual pack on ebay for $9 called S-Shieldz. They were wet applied. I grabbed my glasses cleaning kit, sprayed some of the solution on, lined up the screen protector quite easily, squeegied out the excess liquid and waited 24-48 hours for the haze to go away and now its fully protected. There are 1 or 2 minor flaws in the screen protector that look like dust under but they're actually just knicks in the plastic. I only ended up with 1 particle underneath and its not on the visible part of the screen so I don't really care.
For being $9 with free shipping the quality is quite nice. Its glossy without the orange peel texture. I have no issues with touch sensativity.
Glad to know that I'm not the only one... I only ruined two screen protectors. Haha. I got really close to getting the second one perfect, but ended up with a bunch of particles under it as well. Guess I wouldn't recommend trying to put one on at my place either. I'll look into the other screen protectors that are wet applied mentioned in this thread.
I got a skanomi protector. Got it on perfect.
I cleaned the screen really good with 5 microfiber cloths. Then put the screen protector on top of it still stuck to the paper it came on and pt a piece of plastic I wiped off with a microfiber cloth.
I took a nice hot steamy shower. Bout 20 mins.
Took the protector of its sheet and sprayed on all of the solution and lined it up. I used a single fly cardboard credit card (like the examples they send you in the mail) to squeegee the excess fluid out starting from the middle going out.
After about an hour, I noticed a particle in the middle of the screen. So I took it off, used a very fine pair of tweezers to get the particle off. The second time, I dunked the protector in a sink full of water with a couple drops of soap in it (thats all the 'solution' really is).
Perfect.
I guess I should mention that I had my TFP OFF during the process and 24 hours after.

Wet vs Dry?

Who among you have tried both a wet- and dry-installation screen protector? Which do you prefer?
In searching through these threads, the only wet-installation I've seen mentioned by name is the skinomi. Are there others?
I *think* I want a wet-installation, plus matte, glare-reducing protector, but I will be waiting to see the results of this survey...
I haven't tried the dry type on the Flyer, but had plenty of them on my past phones. Now its all wet apply for me. They are much easier to apply. You can "slide" the protector around a bit to get the position just right before you squeegee it in place. With dry type, you pretty much have to stick it on the correct location right off the bat, otherwise you have to take it off and try again.
Also, not sure why, but for some reason I've had much better success getting a flawless install with no dust under the protector with The wet type. With the dry type (and I tried a few) it took quite a bit of practice and care before I could get a decent installation. Even then, there was usually a speck of dust or 2 under the protector, that I decided to live with. With the wet type, the first one I ever did was effortless and dust free, as were the couple subsequent installations on other devices. No idea why the wet apply method makes a difference on this, but it seems to.
Applying these screen-protectors is such a PITA.
Darn i never ever got a fully clean PERFECT application. (some lint or air bubble always gets in). Its more difficult for applying to large size screens.
I bought 4 screenguards (some 4$ each) alongside my flyer..as i knew i would never be able to do a clean install.
1st application was a bummer. As of now, i am on 2nd one and looking to replace it(has artifacts beneath & is worn out now) with 3rd
Can anyone point to some good instructional videos or guides?
i'm using dry method... haven't seen the wet method but i think it makes easier to install
I've only tried the dry ones, they are a PITA to install but they've held firm once they are set. Wonder if the wet ones are as durable.
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2
I did a 'wet' install using the official Flyer screen protectors. I can't remember what happened but I started off with a dry install, took off the protector and washed it and after splashing off the excess water, put the screen onto my Flyer. I'm assuming it wouldn't be as smooth or slippery as official wet install protectors (I didn't have any of that slippy solution, just water) but it worked out just fine. The screen looked like it had wet marks for a day or so but it dried fine afterwards. I've also done with 'wet' install on other dry screen protectors and devices. No water damage if you are careful and use your common sense!

[Q] avoid dust to apply the screen protector ?

Hi guys !!
In a couple of days I get the protective film, but my fear is dust, how can I avoid absolutely the dust?
Take the phone out of a case (if you have one).
Go into ur bathroom.
Close all windows. Door. Don't run the vent fan if you have one.
Turn the shower or bath on hot and let the room get very steamy.
Clean screen with a microfiber cloth. If you want to be very anal about it. Remove ur shirt. Wet ur hair. Also if it's long tie it back. (this helps eliminate dust or dry skin from falling on the screen while you bend over it. )
The steamy air from the hot water will eliminate any dust floating in the air.
Next step after the screen is clean is to look from all angles to spot any specs. Also clear scotch tape can be used to pick dust off.
Then just apply the protector.
This is how I've always done it on all my phones. Sounds extreme but it all makes sense. I usually combine this is with a shower... Lol

This just came to me. Another method might be mounting the hose end of a vaccum over the area and keep it running during the cleaning and applying. This is what some people do while cleaning the sensor on DSLR cameras.

What he said about getting the bathroom steamy is exactly correct!! I've been using that method for a couple of years now and my installs turn it flawless! I also recommend using the hinge method as well, just to assure that you get it on 100% perfectly (I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my electronics and cars! lol). If you're unsure of the hinge method, you should be able to find some videos on YouTube. Basically you just align the screen protector (without removing the back), then apply some tape to one side. Then the tape will act as the "hinge", and the screen protector will act as the door. I recently started using this method along with the steamy shower. These two methods combined allow for a fool-proof perfect install! As long as the screen protector you're applying is nice and you do the install correctly, people won't even know that you have installed unless they're just really looking for one! Good luck with it all, I hope it all goes well. If you have any questions before or during, please feel free to ask

I use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the screen, Never have any problems when I do that, I've done it with multiple devices and never had any dust sticking under the screen. Only thing is you basically have to keep pushing the stuff out from underneath it for about 10mins.
I'm sure someones going to say I'm damaging the screen now but I've done it with about 4 phones and 2 tablets with no problems whatsoever

NEVER, EVER use any type of Alcohol! It removes/destroys the oleophobic coating on the glass. That's what keeps the fingerprints from appearing and once it starts breaking down, it looks not like a scratched screen but more like a scuffed area. You can buff the area a little and it goes away but you fingers make that scuffed area return.
Sitting naked in steamy bathroom applying screen protector. Sounds like a weekend plan for me.
