[Q] Reverting back to MDK from rooted MK2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a Verizon S4, rooted with safe root, Safestrap installed, running MK2 Hyperdrive ROM. I was wondering if there is anyway to get back to complete stock MDK where I can root and install a custom recovery like I would on any other Android phone? I really want to install the GPE ROM and other AOSP/Vanilla android ROMS. I have a lot of rooting and customizing experience from previous Android phones, but this is the first one on Verizon, instead of Sprint, that I've had and its more locked down than anything I've had also.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!

There is no way to downgrade to mdk at all.
If that were a possibility I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be so many people on safestrap recovery.

Having a Sprint and Verizon phone I know what your going through right now.... Total opposite on Verizon than what you've been used to. Here's a good place to start with info for our phones http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49334432
It'd be great if we could just use Chainfire to root these phones and then Odin a recovery on but no dice. Big red and ATT are bootloader Nazis

Safestrap and MK2 Roms

Ive used safestrap previously on my old OG Razr and absolutely loved it, but what good is it going to be on the S4, doesnt seem like any ROMs even support it =( Is it just because people havent updated the ROMs yet becauses its not done? I ****ed up and took all the OTAs and now i have a locked bootloader and would love to see some Safestrap ROMs...

The only versions that safestrap (curently) supports are, ME7 and MI1. Hash however, is working on getting safestrap support on MJ7 and MK2. As for ROMS, the only roms that you can flash with safestrap are ROMS that are Touch Wiz based(e.x. Hyperdrive). Lastley if i was you i would avoid taking any more ota's from verizon.

Have you read any of the safe strap threads yet? Should do so before posting about the safestrap that's been out and the Roms that are working with it currently and the work hash code is doing right now to get it ported over to mj7 and mdk2 bases
powered by hashcode safestrap hyperdrive 10.2
Safestrap is working great on my rooted MK2 Verizon S4...
Can't wait to see some ROMs for this now!!
Thanks guys!

[Q] What can I flash with the SCH-I545 on Verizon?

I have an HTC One that I converted to a GPE. My fiance has a VZW Galaxy S4 and is jealous. I found a Google Play ROM on here that I'd like to flash (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643031), but I am not sure it will work with her phone. She has a SCH-I545 running the latest 4.3 release from VZW. I rooted the device last week and besides that haven't done anything to the phone ever.
There was a post in that thread that seemed to indicate that I would not be able to load the ROM I'd like due to it requiring Loki and something about the bootloader being locked on her version. This is where I kind of lose it. I am not familiar with Loki, but TWRP for the VZW Galaxy S4 states that it has been modified with Loki (http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/181). In my head it makes sense that since I have root, I can load TWRP recovery and use that to flash the ROM to the device, and that it would work because TWRP has been modified with Loki.
Can someone advise me on this? I have held off on anything beyond root since I haven't been able to find a definite answer.

I suspect you have the MK2 build and bootloader if you're on 4.3. I recommend you read this thread, it will answer your questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578569

[Q] 4.3 unlock bootloader?

I made the mistake of taking the 4.3 over the air update last year.
Ive since been using the phone with a straight talk sim but would love to get rid of all the verizon bloatware and run a custom rom...
Just wondered if this is possible yet or is the bootloader still locked down tight?

search "safestrap" and "saferoot"
you can root and use titanium to freeze apps or use safestrap to flash only MJ9 based roms over your current stock rom. I recommend n3bula if you are going to use safestrap
Its been a while since I looked into seeing if the 4.3 note 2 was yet able to be flashed with custom roms and bootloader unlocked.
Any updates?

I recently rooted and flashed a 5.0 rom on a sprint s5 just to find out it wont work with straight talk, ive been running my verizon note 2 for years with a gsm sim, i had it ported to straight talks cdma lte 4g and my service is much better.
I would like to get another year or so out of the phone but its been laggy after years of use.
I could factory reset but would love to get rid of the bloatware and flash a custom rom.
Is N3bula the best bet still? Im not too picky on what rom I flash. Just want a stable one and one thats easy to flash. Ive never tried rooting or flashing a rom on this phone yet,any thing to be aware of?

Updating to newest firmware?

Well I think I am going to loose my root access and update to the newest firmware and radios from Verizon. I don't do much with rooting and custom ROM's, etc anymore and I figure it is time to move onto the newest stuff. What is the best way to do this?
Currently I am on MDK stock firmware, but rooted and TWRP recovery.
Thanks guys.

Personally, I'd say don't do it. an MDK phone is becoming a rare commodity. You could put a custom rom on there that gives you the latest functionality of the newer releases without the bloat that comes from an OTA. Not all roms are full of fancy bells and whistles. I run Danvdh's GPE rom wich is pretty much just plain vanilla AOSP. I am running a newer radio (NC2) but other than ththe rom and radio, it's nothing fancy.
Hang on to the MDK as long as you can.

Honestly man...I always run into a problem at some point with custom ROM's....I just want a stock ROM that I would see if I updated to the newest firmware. I am on the oldest radio as well. Idk...just tired of the custom ROM stuff I guess...always stuff that doesn't work, etc...

Danvdh puts a lot of work into his ports of the GPE roms and because it is a GPE rom, it is designed for our phones. For me, it is the ultimate stock rom with no additional carrier or OEM bloat. Just fully functioning Android and now at 4.4.4. You can't get much newer than that.

[Q] Looking for a one click root . I am running Android 4.4.2

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SCH-1605) that is running android 4.4.2. I am currently out of contract with Verizon and I would like to start installing custom roms on my device. However, the latest OTA update has my bootloader locked down like Fort Knox. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

You can use a method in the general section to get root, which isn't one click, but you have to unlock the bootloader to install custom recovery to flash roms which can't currently be done on 4.3 and up for this phone.

Ok. Cool. Hopefully, someone will find an exploit to get pass this bootloader soon.
.
So I'm on 4.3 and rooted. Am I still unable to have a recovery? I'm having horrible Wi-Fi issues and i can't figure out why. So wanna go back to og Rom to process and eliminate
