Hello everyone I am kind of stuck right now. Rooted my phone the other day and now am ready to flash a custom rom. I can't decide between stock based or aosp. I really like the aosp look and feel but I do not want to lose the cleaver s-pen apps. Is there a way to install those on an aosp rom? I have looked around but can't seem to find any .apk or .zip files. If I cannot get the stock Samsung Apps is there an open source equivalent? Thanks everybody.

Ive tried out many roms both aokp and aosp as well as stock, but is there a rom out there that is just pure ics? Eg stock minus touchwiz and Samsung apps and nothing else changed?

Try the likes of SlimICS in the Original Android Development section. It, however, has quite a few apps removed, or you could use a stock ICS ROM, install Apex Launcher, and Root Explorer, delete Samsung Apps and the Touchwiz Launcher and keep all your favourites. Simple!

There is actually a rom called "pure ics", Did you even bother searching?
Why would you even want pure ICS when you can have CM9?
Clearer definitions needed.
By "pure ICS" and "stock" do you mean AOSP-like or the stock firmware that came on the handset in the first place?

AOSP like would be ultimate. Just a stock 4.0.3 rom that has had all samsung addons removed. Basically what a Galaxy Nexus has. All of the custom roms I have seen (even the so called Pure ICS rom) have been modified to perform better or adjust battery life, themed etc.
I would just like to try a pure ics as released by Google, I'd that's possible. Thank you.

Thank you. I have also seen that rom and it says in the description that it contains under the hood tweaks ans changes to make aosp better.... lol. Maybe there's no such rom that is just pure aosp

And not to discredit any developers on xda who say they have improved the os, I just feel.... if they know better than Google, why don't they work for Google and make piles of money improving Android?

Hello all. Im looking for a good rom for an i535 that supports multi window use. I tried synergy and it would have been perfect but none of my Verizon apps work and NFL mobile is probably my most used app. That was the deal breaker for me im a big fan of beans rom but he doesn't offer multi window. Any other suggestions out there. Looking for something stable too.

Did you ever find one? I have also tried Synergy but it did not work for me. It would be nice to find a rom that is pretty much completely stock with the multi window feature added.

I found exactly what I was looking for. The recent update to iB4STiD's MDOB rom is based off the latest VRBMD3 OTA. It is stock Touchwiz, bloat removed, with multiwindow built in. I'm sure with the VRBMD3 update we are going to see a lot more new roms that include multiwindow. Lets wait and see, but for now in my opinion this is the fastest, most stable rom out with the multiwindow feature.

If you look at this screen shot a friend has an iPhone yet I can see her emoji. Where can I access those smileys? I can't seem to find them.

stock roms usually don't support this. You'll need to flash a custom rom with support for emoji's. I know CM10.1 does have it.

Ok, wasn't sure.
Thanks.
Here is a guide to install the samsung apps that you want to your phone.
This isn't everything. Just the ones that were not included with Scotts CleanRom. I need a dev or others to help me get other APK's like for camera and dialer.... things that were already installed on clean rom. - but this should work for some others.
I am no developer, just a flashaholic. if someone can go through these and help me pick out the ones that are "needed" and add others, it would be very much appreciated.
This works with adding SOME other apk's as well
1. Download the zip - HERE
2. Extract the zip
3. All Samsung Apps -> System -> App
4. Delete the apk's you don't want
5. Archive the Meta-inf and System folders
6. Reboot and flash the new zip
7. GOLD!!!!
8. help a dev and donate to them or at least THANK Them

The files that were removed from CleanROM Lite can be found HERE
You CANNOT install these files! They need to be placed in /system/app/ if you need them.
Individual Pre-Made Downloads
All of the other Samsung Apps (no Verizon) are Here!

RESeRVEd Just for kicks and giggles.
Thanks for this. I've been holding back on pulling the trigger to go straight AOSP. I think I'd miss the T9 dial-er the most haha.
Thanks. Now I don't have to build a file of all of them.

wait a sec. am I reading this right? I thought it was impossible to put samsung apps on AOSP because of the TW framework.
Does this mean we'll be able to use samsung's camera on the google edition ROM (once OP gets the APK)?

The Google edition firmware is not AOSP, it is, for lack of a better description, TW firmware without any of the TW visual frameworks or assets. In this sense, think of TW as Samsung's compiled android code, not a UI.

This is kind of what we've been clamoring for for a long time, yes: optimized Samsung kernel/code, AOSP app/visual framework. It still doesn't quite solve the timely updates issue, as so much of that is muddled by OEM testing, and especially in this country carrier testing, but it's a step in the right direction, because the amount of app/framework development for a newer version is cut down by only having Google apps.

The TW features such as smart stay and hover arent working though, are they?

Thanks for the guide. Looking forward tongwtring Sammy's camera on this thing.
Thanks for this!
I had made a TiBu backup and restored a couple TW apps that I liked. The stock camera wont work though. I see it's not included in the zip file in the OP. Hope someone gets a working apk soon.

Dubbsy, how much of this has been added to your Oct 4.3 ROM that I am happily running this morning?

Hi, what about the samsung audio recorder app? thats really useful for my school studies!!
Quick question:
Is there a way to build, an AOSP ROM with some of our stock features? Air Command and the Galaxy apparently are non existent in any AOSP ROM I've come across (yes I know its pure Google android, but for our phones specifically). I understand that the AOSP experience is to have the same style and look of a Nexus device, but there are things that our phones lose when we put the "Pure Google Experience" on our phones. The S-Pen, for example. Air Command, nonexistent, not even a decent mod/app for it that I've found. That's one of the key features on the Note. If we lose that, we might as well have a tricked out s4/s5. I know you can pull the Galaxy app apks off of a system dump or extracting a TW ROM, but Is there any way to integrate some of the features?
I love AOSP, don't get me wrong, small, debloated, fast as hell, and it truly takes advantage of the only device on the market with 3GB of RAM. I've been on Carbon before and a fresh boot, I had 2300MB of free RAM available. But there are things about TW that I like, too.
So my question is this: What ROM out there is that light with the speed and functionality of an AOSP build, but with some (not all) features of TW? Because any ROM I come across in the dev section, the size is like 1.5GB+ as opposed to AOSP's 200MB or so.
Any clarification is appreciated, as well as any advice.
Thanks,
Mike
Very few things from touch wiz will work .... they are all framework dependent and will not work. .. the remote works but that's about it

You can't inject certain portions of the framework into an AOSP ROM even from a base build?

Don't you think that if you could take small portions of touch wiz framework it would have already been done
...
Cyanogen himself has a note 3 don't you think he would like certain features but there is no way to do it
