Ok this phone was purchased bootloader unlocked with 4.1.2 and I loaded JellyBeans ROM. It worked great. Recently I upgraded to 4.3 Alliance ROM which I think is the sucessor to Beans. Anyhow, nothing special was going on, using the Alliance Kernel.
I had been running like this for a few weeks, and switched wifi on. The phone rebooted and never booted again. Now it just reboots over and over. If I get into TeamWin Recovery it shows the Teamwin loader screen background and then black screen and reboot.
So at this point I can't get into recovery. I did try ODIN download mode and that at least worked.
The point I am at is I never originally unlocked this phone and I think if I odin back to stock 4.1.2 it will be back to the locked bootloader.. and then I am supposed to run the root hack.
The part I get fuzzy on is the details. I don't know what 4.1.2's stock ODIN files are called and also the proper Root exploit. I am reading but do NOT want to screw this up.
Any advice is much appreciated!
[edit]OK , after reading I tried ODIN'ing root66_vzw_stock and while it completed sucessfully, the exact same thing happens, reboot after the Teamwin recovery loader screen and also booting normally. I did also repartition using the PIT file.
I guess this is bricked?
@redrol
Root66 does not restore to full factory stock...and it sounds like you're wanting to restore back to stock 4.1.2 VRAMC3. As long as you never took an OTA for anything above 4.1.2, you should able to do this. Droidstyle has written a great guide to help with this. You can find the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891181
Under section 1b, Droidstyle gives links to all the files and steps needed to restore the phone. If you're wanting to factory restore to VRAMC3, you would need to choose the download link for the "Official VRAMC3 4.1.2 5/5/13" stock restore image, along with the 16gb pit file to restore the phone to full stock.... and follow Droidstyle's steps to Odin flash those 2 files back to the device. (I'm guessing that you have used Odin before, so you probably know this... but it takes a while for Odin to do the restore... so I found that I had to be patient while waiting for Odin to give a green "pass" message before unplugging the phone. I think it took about 10 or 15 minutes for me when I did it). If everything goes right and you get a pass in Odin, then the software should be restored to how it was when it arrived to you before you rooted it. Make sure to hit the thanks button for Droidstyle for his hard work with the guide.
After you restore to stock... then you can use Adam Outler's Casual program to reroot and unlock the bootloader on VRAMC3. Adam's guide is here-- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
The version of Casual that worked for me was R515.... just make sure you totally disable all virus scanning on your computer before running it.. including Windows Defender...
Good luck!!

Thank you so much. This was the information I was lacking, I will do the stock VRAMC3. I didn't know that Root66 isn't a full factory restore. And yes, never took an OTA update so the bootloader should still be unlocked.
my noob 2 cents
I had a similar issue the past week, I soft bricked my phone in an attempt to upgrade to 4.3 firmware. it didnt like my jellywiz rom i had installed. i had to get to bootloader and use odin to restore my phone. i used root66 and sch-i605-16gb.pit. this restored my phone to stock appearance but also rooted my phone (superuser installed).
OK thank you so much for that information. ODINing back to VRAMC3 did get it back to booting order. This is great. I did have to do a data wipe as well using the stock recovery.
Now how to get root back..? Time to read.:good:

Guys, I've never had this happen before. I was on the Jedi ROM which is based on the International base. I was running the L4 radios with it.
Everything was great and I was asked to test a new ROM that is going to come out soon. Based off the Verizon base.
I flashed it and now I got continuous boot loops. It kept going from the Note 2 screen, to the TWRP screen and back and forth. No matter what I did, it wouldn't boot.
I even powered down and held the up volume key with home and power to boot into recovery. It wouldn't let me, just kept boot looping.
So I Odin'd a stock image that I had on my laptop and now I'm getting a boot loop of the Note 2 screen. I also can't boot into recovery.
What do I need to do? Am I screwed?
Thanks!
Pull the battery let it sit then keep trying recovery. You should be able to get into it. When you do factory reset. If not I bet you used root66 in Odin. You need a full wipe Odin image.

^this!
use a full wipe odin image with the pit file.
Thanks for the responses guys. Where can I get a full wipe odin image from? I've tried many odin images from around here and none of them are working.
Thanks!
try imnuts stock restore thread...thats what i have linked in section 1b of my guide. if your on the L4 ota then you will need to use the alternate restore link that does not contain a bootloader. also you probably could use root66 with the pit file and it should work.

I tried both of those and neither are working. I just keep getting the Note 2 screen boot looping over and over. I also can't get into recovery at all.
I'm at a loss here. :crying:
So just to clarify you've used Droidstyle's guide using the factory jb image that locks your boot loader again and wipes everything with the pit file?
If you have and is still not working I'm out of ideas. That's kind of the atomic bomb of fixing a brick.

Noob here, thanks in advance for any help. I have a rooted vzw note 2 through Odin root66, I've tried unsuccessfully to flash a new rom, always get the dreaded yellow triangle from big brother. I need to unlock the bootloader but am still a bit timid in exploiting things. I've tried flashing with clockwork mod and goo, with the same result, and manage to return to root using Odin root66 etc... I wonder if I can use casual since I'm already rooted? I'm on stock Os 4.1.1, so close and yet so far away from flashing... any help appreciated, thanks

You have to use Causal if you want to flash a rom. Rooting just gives you root access, to flash a rom your bootloader has to be unlocked and you have to have a custom recovery installed. Thats what Casual does, it unlocks your bootloader and installs you first custom recovery for you. Once that is done you will be able to flash roms, not before.
How did you miss that? Its written in all the guides.

I wish you could. I didn't see the Casual One Click until 5 minutes after I rooted. When you try casual, it will check your bootloader and give you a long message saying a lot of things that basically call you dumb for not reading. I'm currently trying to return to stock but I can't extract an .xz file to get it back to stock because it fails at sboot.bin. Sorry man

If it fails at sboot.bin use the alternative recovery ROM in droidstyles guide and flash it in Odin.
As far as I knew you can use CASUAL to unlock, you just have to use the newest version.

Flash Root66 or the alternative restore with the NAND erase box in Odin checked. If it won't flash just the ROM in Odin try flashing the ROM + the PIT by following the instructions in droidstyles guide in Android Development.
You would do better to make your own thread too.

Hello, I've been rooting my phones for a long time and have never had any issues with the phone bricking on me. I made some noobish mistakes when flashing illusion ROM and formatted the system partition and thats where everything went downhill. After that i could get into TWRP and I tried several different ROMS and nandroid backups and nothing would work, just kept giving me the Galaxy Note 2 start screen that wouldn't go away, I waited hours several times I tried this. I found out how to get back to stock with Odin so I tried that and finally got back to stock 4.1.2.
I then tried the casual root method and got partition errors and when I unplugged my phone and tried to boot it back up all I get is a yellow triangle saying that my phone is trying to run unauthorized software and to take it to my nearest Verizon store. I can boot into download mode still but now my computer(Windows 8) will not recognize my phone. It makes the connection sounds but it doesn't show up in my device list or in my device manager. From here I tried uninstalling and re-installing the Samsung drivers but to no avail it still doesn't recognize my phone. Neither my computer or Odin recognize it plugged in. Can someone please help me? give me anything else to try, please.
casual killed the odin driver...the same thread you restored to stock look at the bottom of the section for the link to restoring the odin driver.
Keep reading.... at least thats how I fixed my phone today. I didnt realize I needed to unlock the bootloader so I ended up with the unauthorized software yada yada yada.....lots of reading, youtube video research, xda posts, trial and errors and sheer luck not to brick it worse and I was back up and running in a few hours learning a lot on the way....dont give up!!!

How did you fix your phone?
I got the message about unauthorized software on my i605 note2. When I boot into recovery, I get the message. If I boot into download mode, I can use odin. I tried in reroot with root66 (just grasping at straws) and it took it. Then, the minute I unplugged, boom, the message.
I tried note 2 toolbox and got now where.
I downloaded original firmware from Sammobile.com. I have to unzip it, then look for it with odin I guess.
Amy ideas? Help??

I downloaded odin and unzipped it. I downloaded I605vramc3_I605VZ...zip.
I unzipped odin (I've used it before but I decided to unzip the latest copy just in case there were some upgrades...). I pressed "Pit" and looked for the file. I was unable to find it. So per the guide, I unzipped the .zip file with 7zip. Odin is still unable to find something that I can use. It's like Odin doesn't see the .zip or the unzipped .zip.
How do I get all those files that unzipped turned into something that Odin can find and that I can use?
I know Odin works. Grasping at straws I injected Root 66 into my note2. But of course that didn't remove the offending files so I still get the Unauthorized Software notice.
So in sum, can you tell me how to get Odin to locate the files I downloaded per the guide?
Thank you so much in advance for your patients. I'm not really new to this it's just that this is the first time that I've bricked my phone. Funny thing is the S4 took the goo manager just fine and then I was able to load TWRP onto the S4 with no problem.
I have not unlocked the S4 and I don't thing I unlocked the Note2. I know I used Easy Unlock on one of my phones but I think it was the Razr Maxx.
Anyway, the Note 2 was doing just fine until I tried to put TWRP on it. then I got the dreaded message.
Can't get Odin working
Bean running Beans v21 since it came out and loving it. Yesterday I installed the NBC Million Second Quiz app from the play store, and it froze my phone on a black screen....capacitive buttons would light up, and I could get the reboot menu, but selecting reboot did nothing. No worries -- I pulled the battery and restarted, and was stuck on boot animation. No worries -- booted into TWRP recovery, wiped cache and davlik. Reboot. Still stuck on boot animation. Now worried. Go back into TWRP and re-install Beans v21...It goes through Aroma, but stays on 0% installing forever. Now I figure that somehow the boot loader got re-locked, though can't imagine how that would happen. Boot into Bootloader, and it does say that it is the Samsung standard. Next I put it into download mode and ran CASUAL for 605. It takes, says it rewritten the bootloader, but when it tries to reboot the phone, I am again stuck on the boot animation forever. No problem -- now I should be able to go back into TWRP, wipe data, re-install a ROM since the phone is unlocked again, and move forward. But now when I go into recovery I no longer get TWRP..now I get the Verizon yellow triangle, I assume becuase CASUAL couldn't reboot to complete. I downloaded odin, the pit, and the 605 image and tried to restore to factory, but odin can't connect. I am guessing that this is because CASUAL replaced Odin.

I am starting to think that someone at Verizon stumble across some way to slam that dreaded triagle onto our note2. Mine worked just fine until a few days ago when i tried to load twrp.

I am stuck. I can't get odin to see the original firmware i downloaded from this forum. I tried unzipping it w 7zip. I have the unzipped files but still odin can't see them.

For those of you who have been following my saga. I have now recovered my Note2. I installed I605Vramc3 using Odin for the S3. I had to find the file that I downloaded (C:\Users\John\Desktop\KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5). I then copied that file into DESKTOP on my notebook. Now, I was able to point Odin in that direction. I plugged in my note while in Download mode, injected the file, and waited for the reboot. Botta bang, botta boom, the note rebooted with a flurry on downloaded new app updated.
The only problem I have is that I don't have root. Now I have to figure out how to inject root. But that's for another day!! As for now, I am up an running. I thought for sure I had a $600 paper weight.
The warning is gone and thank God it all works.
Thank you to everyone that participated in this saga. It's nice to know that I am not alone.
By the way, Casual repartitions your device. That may be why it failed for an earlier poster.
Update!
I just finished installing No You Verizon R515. My Baseband is I605VRAMC3. I am on 4.1.2. The instalation was a breeze. I am now safely backed up w TWRP.
Many thanks to Adam. Also thanks to Droidmotter video.

You now it was funny. When I finally recovered my note2, I paused to contemplate my success.
I spent a few minutes then reading the posts of those who unsuccessfully tried to root using Casual. All I could think of was the fact that after a week of not being able to use my Note, I was not going to risk it.
Besides, I have my rooted S3. I am running android apps on my BB Q10. Hell, I even have the Nexus 10 and the Ipad (and two ipods) (I devices jb'n of course).

Follow up -- Simply put: Delete installed samsung drivers in applications and device manager (plug in the device so you can see them, then delete them) and then plug in the phone and allow it to re-install drivers from windows update (or you can download yourself, since windows update can take a long time).
Once I got connected, I was able to ODIN in a stock image -- couldn't use Route 66, as it still gave me the yellow triangle, but VRAMC3 stock worked. Then back to Casual, TWRP, and freedom once again.
I flashed Beans' MJ9 ROM this morning, but I was getting crashes, so I attempted to do a more thorough wipe and I think I may have gone too far. If I try and boot I get stuck in a boot loop. I have tried going back to the rooted stock that is listed in the sticky in the development section, but it still bootloops. I can get to recovery no problem. I've also tried reflashing Beans' V20, but again a bootloop. I noticed that in Aroma, if I told it to wipe data (I think it was) it would never get past 0%, but if I only told it to wipe cache, then it would flash just fine. I also tried restoring a nandroid, but it fails when trying to restore system. Any help would be just awesome. Thank you in advance.
ETA: I wasn't able to get a logcat. I don't think the phone was getting far enough in its boot to be recognized by adb.
I soft-bricked my phone doing the same thing.
After a very stressful day of flashing various packages through odin, you have no choice but to flash the stock 4.3 firmware(boot) and rpm (pda) files through odin as our phones are now bootloader locked
Fix
I wouldn't think that the bootloader would be locked if you flashed Beans MJ9 ROM. You should be able to ODIN back to stock VRALJB with the PIT file. Then run Adam Outler's CASUAL to gain Root, and bootloader unlock back. Give it a try.
No chance.... If stock 4.3 rom is installed then casual won't work... And bootloader won't unlock but root is still possible

Read what the op said. He said he flashed Bean's rom. Not the odin file. The rom doesn't have the bootloader.
If you are still having problems I would suggest going back to stock with odin and root and unlock with casual again. Just do not use the MJ9 build in odin. I would go back to VRAM3C.

Thanks for the same but my response is on to the post sent by ivov7342 in which he referred to stock 4.3 and not beans rom.... Hope all got it now.....

I had this happen. All I had to do was re install cwm. But I didn't know how. So I got Phillz touch recovery flashed the zip then all was fine. Went back to beans 22 but on bases radio mj9. Good luck.

I used ODIN to put VRAM3C on (along with the pit file) and I got a bootloop. I guess I'll give VRALJB a try after it downloads. Any other suggestions would be great.
So I ended up finding just the most random fix. While I was waiting for VRALJB to download, I was playing with my phone, and I decided to boot into (stock) recovery. Well, when it came up, it said that it couldn't mount /data. So I thought, hey, why not try a data & cache wipe, which I did. Then when it came back, it didn't say anything about not being able to mount /data, as I would have expected. So I thought I would try booting again, and it booted right up just fine. Now I just have to go through root it again. :victory:

You need to post the output of Odin or tell us where it failed.. without more information it's kind of hard to tell you what is going on.
If no more information I would just tell to try again

Are you positive you are in Download Mode? Also make sure you do not have Kies installed. Also might want to try to reinstall Samsung drivers after uninstalling them. After that reboot your computer and let them install

Sounds like a usb error. Try another
i got the usb error solved by deleting kies and installing seperate usb drivers. found 2 different .tar files to use in the pda section but cant locate a proper .pit file. the ones that i havve searched for lead to broken or bogus links.

@coltblue,
That pit file lacousier18 linked you should have worked if you are ODIN'ing the correct .tar restore file. You didn't say which Android build you are currently on while trying to restore back to 4.1.2. If you ever installed stock factory builds of 4.3+, then you won't be able to ODIN back to 4.1.2 because your bootloader would have been locked... (you probably know, but any factory stock firmware 4.3 and above permanently locks the bootloader for our Note 2's).
If you were on 4.1.2 bootloader when things got messed up, then you should be able to restore your phone back to 4.1.2 and reroot with CASUAL.
If you were on factory stock 4.3 MJ9 (and just rooted) when things went wrong, you'll have to restore back to MJ9 and root again with saferoot.
There's currently no root method for factory stock 4.4.2.
Either way, you can find Droidstyle's guide at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891181
He has all the links for files needed to restore your phone back to 4.1.2 or 4.3.
If Droidstyle's guide helps you, please make sure to hit the thanks button for him. He spent a lot of time putting the guide together for us.
Good luck.

i have tried i605vrufnd7 , and KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_ , but not the other 2. i coouldnt find a working link for the others. i shall try them and report back thank you.
success ! odin finally accepted stock 4.1.1 but showed a warning triangle saying not official software on the phone screen. ran 4.4.2 through odin and it worked first try. phone restarted , booted up and loaded 4.4.2 . never lost any settings contacts or data! the big thing i did different was using odin on my desktop with a new usb cable and using the usb 3.0 port. Thanks for all the help !

Glad to hear that you got it restored. It sounds like you were initially running factory 4.4.2 Kit Kat when you had tried to root it to start with.
If you're re on stock 4.4.2 VRUFND7 , then unfortunately - - you can not root the device or unlock the bootloader because there's no rooting method or bootloader unlock method that works right now. You also won't be able to use Odin to downgrade to any of the other Android builds because of lock downs implemented with the 4.4.2 Kit Kat software. The good news is that your phone should run fine on stock 4.4.2 and you can use it again.
Keep your eyes open for new rooting methods.... you never know, someone might figure out how to root it yet.
