[Q] Not backed up SMS database still intact after flashing new rom - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just performed a full wipe of my HTC One M7 and flashed a new rom. Once it was done I downloaded Titanium backup from the Play Store and restored all my backed up data. Note that I didn't back up my SMS messages with Titanium, just my SMS app, Textra.
Once it was done I opened up Textra and all my messages were sitting there just as they were before the wipe.
I'm pretty sure that Google doesn't backup things like SMS messages, so where did they come from?

Text messages will be stored as data for the Textra app so when restoring Textra it will likely restore messages too.

Best Backup For Apps / SMS / ETC

I use nandroid to do full system backups, but usually only do those when I'm about to flash something. I'd like to do be able to back up apps, sms messages, etc,. Sometimes I'll flash something, use it for a while, and then go back to the nandroid restore, but that takes me back to where I lose messages, etc...
Seen MyBackupPro, but not sure if there are better options?
Thanks, JP
Titanium backup can do all of that but... for some reason on the SGS it does not backup txt messages but does for app, app data, system data, etc.
Titanium Backup.
It even has a new function to remove bloatwares now.
I'll be the random voice of dissent.. I wasn't too impressed with Titanium Backup. I use SMS Backup to sync all my messages to GMail (threaded, labeled, marked as read and archived - can't think of a better place to get them stored, searchable and safe). And I'm a longtime believer in reinstalling apps fresh on new installs. It takes a few minutes to reload with AppBrain and Web Install.
Titanium Backup
SMS Backup+ (the one by Jen somebody I think is the name... a chick name). She tool SMS Backup and made it better.

Backup SMS

I have over 10,000 texts on my HTC hero and my phone is ridiculously sluggish. I'd like to somehow backup all of my SMS to somewhere, so I can still read them, while starting fresh on my phone, and every new texts gets automatically updated to this said location.
I tried SMS backup +, but they get backed up in gruoped 100's and it's pretty strange.
Thanks.
See if there are any good apps for you here: https://market.android.com/search?q=sms+backup&so=1&c=apps
SMS Backup does a backup to your gmail account, sms backup & restore lets you backup in xml and other formats, and I think TxtArchive SMS Backup does what you describe, although I don't know for sure,, you should give it a try

try my backup root from play store
Get to grips with TitaniumBackup, essential app for rooting and flashing custom roms. It'll backup and restore all your messages, wifi data, call logs (a bit temperamental though with call logs) and bookmarks etc. Very quick aswel.
I'd recommend syncing contact and calendar information with your Google account though and not restoring those with backups.
Also consider mybackup pro, for backing up SMS and logs.

I am now also using Titanium Backup Pro it is amazing and recover all user apps or even system data ... I wonder if there is any option to delete backuped system data and leave only apps ...
I use mybackup pro and it backs up everything, apks, data, texts, pictures, everything.
It's a thing of beauty.

can't restore texts

SOLVED: I rooted my LTE and flashed FreshEVO 5.1. Then took the SD card out of my OG Evo that had a titanium backup of everything on it and restored missing apps and system data.
Texts didn't come through. So I then used SMS backup and restore to go back on the old phone, back them up and then beam the file to my LTE. Installed same program on new phone and restored. Seemed to restore 2000 texts but after finished I see no messages.
Here's the weird part: if I send or receive a text it shows the message history for that person but then reverts to the 'no messages' blank page. I've tried clearing messages data in the app settings without resolution.
Ideas?
Thx
Download titanium backup and backup the file called Dialer storage or sms dialer storage. That's the best way to do it in my opinion. Works everytime for me.

Thx for the info. Still not showing up though. Almost like the sms app is corrupted.

Have you tried SMS Backup+? It's what I used to pull SMS and Call Log from my OG EVO to the EVO LTE (both running Fresh). I use it because it backs up to a Gmail account via IMAP. Even if you can't restore, the messages are only a quick search in the Gmail app.
FWIW, I do recall a few times after the restore on the OG EVO I had to reboot before the messages showed up in the messaging app. Maybe something similar is happening...

Used titanium backup to wipe Dialer/SMS and then re-restored texts with SMS Backup and Restore.
Thanks to all who answered.

"Sony Backup and Restore" only received SMS shown in other sms apps

Before doing factory reset, I made a backup of SMS/MMS using Sony stock Backup and Restore in Settings.
After flashing new firmware (224), I restored from that backup , and found only incoming messages were shown in other messaging apps like Hangouts, Google Messenger and Textra. Weirdly, sent messages appear in stock sony messaging app.
I tried 3rd party app to backup SMS, and found it only backup incoming messages.
It looks like only stock or system apps recognize sent messages.
How can I make other apps recognize sent messages?
I don't have problem sending new messages using other apps, and newly sent messages are just okay.
But, if I made a backup with Sony BnR, and restore it, the same thing happens again..
