I've seen lots of threads about notifications interrupting music playback, but this is way different...
It seems every time my wife is recording that "once in a lifetime" moment of the baby... she gets a text message or some other inconsequential notification. Now... her problem is my problem, so I have to find her a solution.
Is there any way to prevent notifications form interrupting video recording? The Note 2 is rooted, but not bootloader unlocked.
Thanks!
I'm thinking that putting the device in airplane mode should allow her to record videos without getting notifications. Maybe test it out by putting it in airplane mode, start to record something, and send her a text message while she's recording.

This is a possibility, and a pretty good idea. However, putting the phone in airplane mode every time you want to use the camera is kind of a pain in the butt, especially when you're trying to catch something that's happening RIGHT NOW.
Expanding on your idea, though... I might devise a tasker profile for her, such that when she opens the camera app, her phone will go into airplane mode, and back to normal mode when she closes it. That might work. I'll have to give it a try.
Thanks for the suggestion.
cool. Good idea and good luck

Do you have it turned on under the sound settings?

In vibration mode, all those settings get greyed out. And by default it SHOULD vibrate for incoming calls and notifications right? I don't want it to vibrate in normal mode... I can't get it to vibrate in vibration mode however.. For some reason it automatically goes to "silent mode" upon receiving a call, though I kept it in vibration mode... I just tested it.. makes me go mad!
It is possible that an app I am using (Profile Scheduler) is messing things up...

I would definitely try disabling the app and seeing if that solves the problem. I had a similar issue with my phone not going into vibrate mode. I eventually traced the issue back to an app I was using for different vibration patterns for SMS messages. It had a option buried deep in the settings to disable all system vibrations and that was preventing my phone from vibrating when receiving phone calls.
I had the same problem
It's definitely profile scheduler, I used the same app and experienced the same problem. I spent hours digging through all the settings and experimenting with all configurations without getting the vibration to work properly. During my trials, I noticed on the tray that the icon was set to the vibration setting and when calls came in, it would switch to the no sound icon. It drive me nuts up until I removed the app (which I love the capability and features it provided). So far no problems, but I do miss profile scheduler.

Hurray! It now works perfect without that app... But sad to see that app go.. It was so useful. Any alternates that can help? Or, may be once we get root, we can rectify it.
Option to Profile Scheduler
I went back to Timeriffic, it's an app that you can schedule certain functions to operate at set times. The other is "Profile" by noimjosh. This app is closest in function to Profile Scheduler and I used it for many years on my DINC. But once I upgraded to the DINC4 with ICS and this app didn't work properly any more. To make matters worse, the developer stopped updating the app. The problem was; similar to Profile Scheduler, the vibration setting stopped operating properly.

Have you considered notifying the developer of profile schedule about the bug that causes that issue? Maybe they could find the problem and fix it and you'd be able to keep using the app.

This is a simple trick I use when I am near a computer anyway to save battery life. Its so simple it hurts. And I'm sure most already know how.
Go to settings>accounts&sync > turn off auto sync. There you go.
I usually do not charge my phone for couple days unless I get flash happy trying to fix problems.
What is the point of having a smartphone if you don't have things syncing? Seems extremely pointless to me.

turning off the phone also works really well...as does avoiding all web surfing, music and video playing...lol
you guys missed the point where i said when i'm around a computer. Like when i'm at home, i'm usually logged into this site, gmail and 4 other sites, so no point in having my phone auto sync. You can always manually sync every couple of hours.
This was a suggestion for people that are looking to get a little extra battery life, not for sneers and condescending little remarks that are unhelpful.
If you have something negative to say. Please keep it to yourself.

No, it does not. During airplane mode, you cannot send recieve text, or send and recv calls. Also data features during gameplay does not work in airplane mode.
Look guys if you don't have anything positive to add. Then please don't add it.
Lol you guys are mean but entertaining

At my work there's only 2G but my phone signal is fine. So I drop my radio to CDMA ONLY (1X). They have a 3G WiFi so I connect my Nexus 7 and I go one further after I disable Sync on my power widget control, I disable Mobile data. Its redundant, my tablet has all email and internet functions. My phone still works fine for calls, text messaging and I can even take a picture and send/receive it mms, even with Mobile data off. When I send or receive an MMS, the 1X icon pops up so it accesses the internet for that task then goes back to being off. I have no problem making my super phone a dumb phone when I don't need the internet tapped to my hip for no reason, I'd rather get better battery life! As soon as I need to, I can go right back to super phone, but you can't do that with a dumb phone
I do turn of the sync do my battery can go further since I'm not always around a plug and still don't turn it on since I don't like my notification bar cluttered. So I turn off the mobile network and WiFi when I don't use them.

This is a good idea, particularly if you couple it with something like Tasker or Locale, so that auto-sync is automatically turned off when you are at certain locations... (like home or the office).
what exactly does the sync toggle feature disable? when it comes to google services?

Basically this picture explains the problem in a nutshell, if I am on whatsapp and I minimize it for a while or if I set the phone to go in standby after around about 10 minutes the phone will supposedly lose connection to the whatsapp servers and not be able to receive any messages. If I come onto whatsapp and check at this time it will basically say I was seen the last time I opened whatsapp, I will not be able to see the last seen of any of my contacts, and not be able to send or receive messages. The only way I've found to fix this temporarily is to toggle airplane mode and then again whatsapp will work until I go to standby or something. I'm not sure why it's doing it it never used to do it a few months a go I'm confident I'm not the only one with this problem I've tried push notifications fixer nothing seems to help it is just losing connection to whatsapp when in standby and I have no idea why.. it's driving my crazy because I'm not getting my messages and people think I'm ignoring them and its just making whatsapp really unreliable .. anyone got any help on how to fix this? !

I do have greenify installed but effect only on maps and similar.
losing connection with only one contact
I have been using WhatsApp for a long time but lately I am having problems with one specific contact.
Sometimes I am talking with this contact and suddenly it stops, the last seen information also disappears and any message that I send get the one check mark, so it stays in the server and do not reach the other recipient. When eventually the contact comes back any message sitting in the server never is sent.
Nobody loses internet connection and all other contacts work just fine in this same period.
The same problem occurs on her side at the same time. I disappear to her.
None of us block, it just happen during conversations or sometimes we go into WhatsApp and the contact is blank it out with only the name available.
We tried cleaning the app cache, force stop, restart the phone, recreate the contact and not solves the problem. Eventually it comes back, sometimes stay on for a few hours or a couple of days, then stops. Sometimes it stays off for a couple of hours and come back, sometimes it take days to come back.
Again it is only with one specific contact, all others works just fine. This problem starts to happen about 2 or 3 months ago and it is aggravating.
The big problem is the one I need the most and vice versa.
We both use android.
Please, we need help.
Having the same exact problem, definitely frustrating as hell

My cellular Internet randomly stops responding in the browser throughout the day even it says I'm connected to LTE. I have to turn airplane mode on/off to get it working again. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is it just me.

Me too, it will sometimes say, "Phone is not registered." I came over to T-Mo to save some dollars, so I was unable to determine if the issue is T-Mo's network or the S5. Especially true since I've always had HTC phones. My issue does only seem to happen in stores and where I work, so I assumed it to be T-Mo...
I also have a problem with the Wifi not remembering my password. Strangely this only seems to happen when I check the "Smart Network Switch", which is SUPPOSED to make it smoother...
It happens once in a while. Toggling Airplane Mode on and off fixes it.
Happens to me too. I don't think it's the phone, as I was having the same issue with the S4. Had to toggle airplane mode.
Sent from my SM-G900T using xda app-developers app
Same here, it happened very very occasionally with the S4, but it seems like it's at least once a day if not more with the S5. I had a separate microphone issue on my first phone so this is my second device that's had this problem. The airplane mode toggle works, and also turning wifi on and off works for me. The problem is when I don't realize it's happened and I miss a call which is problematic for obvious reasons. I've missed several calls in the last few days which I find unacceptable, if this doesn't get sorted out I'm going to have to switch to another phone soon...

same happened to me had to return the phone through buyers remorse program seems it's an hardware issue a simple restart or reset of Internet via airplane mode will fix it but annoying
I'm also having the issue. Not a major issue as it doesn't happen too often.
I notice I get it when I am connected to wifi. Doesn't seem to happen as often when wifi toggled off.
Same here I had the s4 it just recently like a month ago I though it was my s4 but when I got the s5 same thing so its nost likely a t mobile

Hi finally got my edge today. Loving it all ready.
I need a way of setting notifications by time meaning the phone auto switches to mute at a certain time on certain days then goes back to on in the morning at a certain time. Does anyone have recommendations please.

do not disturb will do that for you in sounds and notifications
Thanks that's about 90% what I'm after. It would be great to be able to add certain contacts instead of all or favourite etc.

Same here! I don't really use the 'Favorites' feature, but I had to reset all of them so that this feature would work.
There a software name Audio manager pro as I remember, try searching it. Good luck!
Did anyone find a way of using do not disturb to mute notifications? It seems less reliable for third party apps.
There is also Phone weaver, It does everything you said. The only strange issue is when you switch in airplane mode, manually or automatically, only wifi go off, the phone radio doesn't!
There is a trial version too!
