Hey, guys, I am facing very big issues with trying to port FFOS to Alcatel OneTouch Tab7 (Not HD). I dont have a lot of knowledge in mobile development, but have foundations and can get on easily, after I get any clues for what I am doing D).
I have the above mentioned device in house, successfully rooted it, as the tab was slow as hell. Made some tweaks and stuff, but it is still unusable most of the time. So I thought I could try porting it, but I am a bit stuck on how to start. I cant find almost anything about the device, except maybe that it has hardware very similar to the VIA Vixen, but that is it. I am mostly concerned about the part with compiling the kernel and everything. (Afraid to brick the device). I would love to get my hands dirty, so if anyone is interested in giving this a try or at least to provide some assistance, PM me or respond in thread.
This is the device I believe it covers the minimal for FFOS. So porting should be doable.
Thanks!

Do you mean the stock sources(kernel) or the B2G Sources?
majority of alcatel's sources are here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/alcatel/files/?source=navbar
Does the tab7 have a different name?

This is as far as I can get (sorry that it is not a screenshot, but the device is unusable...) Any clues
Yeah RockChip RK 2928, according to GSM Arena
Well not from the sources as I don't know which of the packages is the stock firmwire. Anyhow is there a way to extract it from the device

I have the same problem after flashing the Efox E4 with a custom rom. I tried the original rom as well and I got the same problem!! Please help!
Hi,
Wrong or missing LCD driver, i guess. Re-try replacing boot.img and/or uboot.img from your stock recovery or backup.
Which rom did you try to flash?

Hello.
Can you explain how did you fixed it?
I'm banging my head against the wall to fix this :S
There are two versions of the efox e4. The ROMs you find on the NET are for the first one and you, like me, must have the second. I've copied the ROM from another phone and flashed it on mine.
I've been thinking of posting it on needrom, but haven't done it yet.

yeah... i already know about that, i made several ROM for my own phone, ported from other brands, and it works fine.
Now i want to try to port ROMs from other chipset (MT6582 and MT6572 is like a sibling each other so think it's should not too difficult).
thinks i have to figure out the way by myself...

Did you guys notice that the LG L7II and the Huawei Y300 has the same specs
Wow, amazing! On my way to try out some huawei roms in hope of getting it to work.
It IS the same chipset afterall...
Nice find. Did you manage to find any ROMs? All I found were 4.1.x ROMs, which basically returns us to square 1...
Awesome, but this is not even nearly any close to development. Put this thread ro general.
Also installing a huawei rom just like this is a nice way to brick your phone...

Che, tried once to port, but instead of working phone, I got a bricked one.
They are pretty different inside, because all the circuitry is different, only the chipset is the same.
sorry
Sorry guys, i thought it would be helpful for development :|

Hah, I tried to flash it but CWM didn't let me. It just throws bunch of text at you and aborts the installation.
Tried to port with the classic port rom base rom method but with no success.
Hello.
I'm new to this forum (well as a user) and also to developing. I would like to know how I can build or patch the ROM (kernel) of my unlisted mtk6572 device to support 5.0 or even 6, basically porting to a different api such as 5/.0.1/.1.1 . I would just like some links to guides if not a guide.
Merci in advance.
John

As shocking as it is since my last reply, I've tried searching way to extract the kernel source, from the device, but I can't find any, I gave up, due to slow net, but my dad upgraded about 6 months ago, and now I've began trying to add upgrade support to MTK phones, since Mediatek wont share the "TRADE SECRETS" they acquired from linux and are illegally selling. So I'd actually like to help people who bought an MTK phone/tab without knowing this. I just want to know if it's possible to decompile/extract the source from the device, and if so, how?
Thanks in advance!

nope, you can't get sources from the device,it will be released by the manufacturer.send them a mail asking for it.
btw you came to the wrong section.questions should go here.
Thanks, will they give the sources to me for free? Or I'll probably have to pay for the Linux source. And Google should really deal with them...

Well I asked elephone to make it published, just waiting now
Elephone need to publish this as it will make more custom rooms and kernels so much easier to implement features over and port rooms from other devices over to it!

I could if you actually gave details of what you tried, what errors occurred etc.
Saying just "I give up" is useless in terms of getting help. You need to give details.
