A week or two ago, my phone was lagging, so I pulled the battery out to restart it, as it wasn't restarting from the OS. It turned on to the HTC logo, then the screen went black. The rest of the phone works, including the digitizer and volume buttons. I purchased a replacement screen and installed it. The issue remains. I'm able to boot to Recovery and use a Java program called Android Screen Cast to see the display. Unfortunately, the display signal is corrupt, so I'm unable to test if a ROM reinstallation would work. I doubt it would in the first place, though, as Recovery, Fastboot and Hboot don't show anything as well, so it's most likely a hardware program. What could this be? I'm stumped on this one, and I'd like to have a phone to use until I have enough money to buy a replacement.

So I just got done configuring chompSMS. Disabled notifications on the built in SMS app. Did a battery pull and got this screen and haven't been able to get out of it. Held down home & power and got a user memory wipe screen. Figure I'd give that a shot. Still stuck on the FASTBOOT screen and now have to redo the whole thing if I manage to get out of this screen.
Anyone else see this? Not much out there about Sprint's Hero, but there's a bit about Orange's Hero, rooting, flashing rom's and all that fun stuff. Nothing about getting it back to normal though.
and to add....after letting it sit connected to usb for a bit, the screen finally went dark but now won't turn back on. Really odd.
hmm im kinda new to android, but if your stuck in fastboot cant you use the devkit to push a new recovery image like RA 1.2.3 and flash ?
i might be wrong tough
I'm brand spanking new to Android. Haven't dealt with sdk's andn loading rom's in ages and don't have the time to figure it out. Thought there might be some hard reset button combo that I was missing or something. Just heading to the Sprint store now with box in hand to have them switch it out or activate my Treo Pro again. Kinda need the phone for work and don't have a home phone so downtime is not a good thing.

he won't be able to push that to do ADB tricks, nor do fastboot flashing with img files
Goldcard doesn't help as well
I hv got a G1 in same situation after pulling out the battery.
Stucked at first splash screen on next boot.
I assume that is a rom / system problem so I tried to boot into recovery but still freeze on 1st splash screen.
I tried to figure out the problem and I'd try to connect by usb and tried adb logcat but only waiting device return. And yep the screen goes black ( but still on ) likely in this situation.
And yea SPL enter was successful but can't connect to fastboot so no recovery can flash.
I notify the phone (seemingly) won't be able to charge as the notification do not turn on, or it does charge but problem with notification light (?), probably it is more likely a hardware problem due to removing the battery. Recently I take the G1 to a shop to figure out is that a hardware failure.
I'm all for troubleshooting and playing around with ROMs, but there's times when I just need to be up and running and have opted not to screw around with something I depend on for work. There's other toys to "play" with.
So after a way too long stay at the Sprint store I have a new Hero that's up and running just fine.
Wanted to say it was something I installed, but everything seemed to be approved by the masses as working well. Maybe it was something with the battery pull. I'm surprised no one has made a soft reset widget. Seems kinda basic coming from 13yrs of PalmOS and a bit of winMob.

download htc sync and install it.
http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=300&act=sd&cat=all
download sprint RUU and run it, it will wipe your phone, but it will work agian
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release.exe
thanks for that. Will keep that handy for next time or if I ever play around with it. I think I'm going to the Moment though when it hits next month. Better screen, processor and keyboard will be doing it for me.
fixing any android stuck in fastboot
If your stuck in fast boot this is what you do.
1. Remove the micro sd card and somehow connect it to your computer.
2. Download a rom that is made for your phone and put it in a easily accessible folder on the micro sd.
3. Reinsert the sd card in the phone and reboot, once in fast boot go to hboot.
4. After going into hboot select recovery.
5. After this is done you must go to "install zip from sd card" and choose the rom that you have downloaded, select install and wait until the installation is complete, if unsuccessful redownload and try the whole process again, if unsuccessful the second time try downloading another rom.
If you have any questions please personal message me so i can help you.

Btw i had a HTC hero and had this problem many times and this had worked every time.
I have a similar situation
when i power on the phone it goes straight to fastboot mode.
I Checked volume keys and are not stuck.
If I connect phone via usb and run:
fastboot reboot
the phone will load normally the android OS and will work just fine until you power it off again.
\
I dismantled the phone just to be sure there is no hardware issues, I tried to power on the phone without the home button connected to the board and the phone will load the android OS without any issue.
I dismantled the button itself, it has some sort of touch IC inside and a normal key button downside.
I could not notice any dust or water tracks in the button, so
at this point and dont know where to go...
I dont have another button just to be sure if it is the button itself or a board issue.

People still use the Hero? There are so many better phones you can buy for dirt cheap. Heck, I got the Evo LTE for $80 on Craigslist. Even the Evo Shift, Design and 3D can be had cheap. I'd dump the Hero without blinking.
I recently shattered my screen, and even though everything still worked, Igot a used replacement screen.
Unfortunately, it didn't work properly (would only display green, no red or blue, so instead of RGB, it was G).
I switched back to my old broken screen, and got it to fire up, but the touchscreen wouldn't work. Then I said, well, I can handle everything being green as long as the phone works.
Well, I thought wrong. Now, I can't get either screen to power on, but the soft keys DO light up, which tells me that it is still booting properly, just that the screens are not communicating with the motherboard properly.
I'm on FE's CM10 v8 with the stock kernel. Can someone give me the number of button presses to get it into usb mount in recovery?
I need to pull my data off of the internal sd, and this will be the only way I can do it.
Thanks
//edit - incidentally, I went ahead and contacted asurion to see what replacement phones they are offering if I file a claim, and since they are sending me an HTC Amaze, I'm happy to file and pay the $130 deductible.
I have found the solution, this thread can be closed.
Could you share your solution?
Thanks.
I think his solution was to file an insurance claim.
When you connect to the phone while running CWM you can also use ADB to pull files from the phone.
My phone was working fine earlier, sent a text off, went to write another one, pressed the search button by accident and then the screen froze, wouldnt respond to any touch at all. Tried turning the screen on and off for a bit, volume was still working etc, in the end pulled the battery. Phone restarted, managed to get it to the normal lock screen (where it had my alarm/activities for the day displayed) but again, unresponsive to touch. Pulled again a few times and the same thing happened so I decided to leave it, figured maybe the heat/humidity here (on holiday in India) had wreaked havoc with some component.
Anyways, restarted again 30 minutes later and this time couldn't get past the windows phone screen -as soon as that loaded, it reset the phone and got stuck in a neverending loop. Held up and down together and got to the screen I think is called SPL (never bothered with any of the rooting stuff)
However, the TOUCH simply says "TOUCH NONE". So obviously theres a problem there. Everything else is the same.
I tried disabling/enabling the HTC log/modem bridge but that didn't help and did a reboot and factory reset a few times but that didn't help either. Now Ive got the device hooked up to my laptop, changed from serial to USB but I don't know what (if anything) I can do in this state?
I tried earlier holding down to put it into zune mode, it completed restoring the version but then as the zune software restarted the phone, it went back into the endless cycle - the zune software was still waiting for it to reconnect again to complete the process, but obviously I couldn't get it that far.

Hold down the volume up and volume down at the same time while hitting the power once you see the white screen you can let go of the power; in green lettering you're going to see the SPL, for most of us its 2.05.160023. This is the bootloader screen, everything there is done by the volume toggle, no touch screen here. Your phone is stock which means you won't be flashing like we customized folks do so let's start with the SPL, what is it and by some chance is it HSPL'd?

berrywr, TOUCH NONE on SPL screen means either corrupted touch driver or dead touch screen.
So, my V10 just decided to nuke itself. I was browsing through gmail and it locked up. Completely unresponsive. Pulled the battery, tried to get into download mode and it does, but it also locks up and won't show the green android. It just shows the small download mode icon and the bubble things. I try going into recovery. It goes into modified recovery (with safe mode, etc)... I click on factory reset and it just goes back to the LG boot screen.
My phone literally bricked itself...

This actually happened to me last month. Was reading a pdf and all of a sudden it froze and started bootlooping. Tried pulling out battery, download mode, etc and nothing worked. Even tried reflashing firmware. Ended up having to send it back to LG, they had to replace the flash memory
VZW replaced it under LG's 1 year warranty. Apparently it's a common LG problem affecting the G4, G5, and V10.
I recently had a similar problem with my V10 VS990. I'm on my 3rd phone now. I took the most recent OTA update and my phone started having issues getting a location lock in Navigation(google maps) and also it would show nothing in recent apps when I'd had tons of apps opened. So I finally went to Verizon and they sent me a replacement. When I got the replacement everything seemed normal but then I started having the same problems with the replacement. I believe it was a refurb. Well I called Verizon again and ordered a 2nd replacement. Just after hanging up with the VZ rep, the display of the phone started to become unresponsive. I was puzzled so I rebooted. Still same thing. The display would come on but I could not unlock the phone. I kept messing with it and finally got it to unlock but the display was not reactive to touch. I messed with it until I could get to the security menu and was able to factory data reset it before shutting it off. It was just weird how the display just suddenly became totally unresponsive. It would turn on and looked perfectly fine but would not do anything when tapped or touched.
Me too. Bootloop issue. A well known problem with the LG V10 **grumble** Apparently it is hardware related.
I took mine back to Verizon and had a replacement the next day.
About 2 months ago I bought myself the new Pocophone F1. I really enjoyed the phone and everything looks to work fine. Then yesterday something weird happened. I wanted to unlock my phone and use it, and then touchscreen did not work. It looks like nothing registers, even the fingerprint scanner does not respond. So ofcoures I restarted my phone and thought it will be just temporarily. After restarting, it was still frozen, nothing worked and I could not even get out of the lock screen. I restarted it like 10 times after that, and well without any explanation it worked again, I was very happy and thought it was just an app that caused it probably. I used my phone for about 2 hours, and than the same thing happened. And even after restarting it still was completely frozen. So I decided to just go into recovery mode and Wipe all data and just get a fresh install. I had my images and such on Pc anyways. But even after the wiping of all data, the touchscreen is still frozen!
I do not know what to do anymore. Now it says that the device is locked and I have to unlock the phone. I can not touch any buttons, because it is still frozen and the feedback of the fingerprint is not working as well.
For your information, I have not once let the phone fall and always used a case. I removed the case also, did not work. The phone looks just like I bought it yesterday, looks nothing wrong with it, but still touchscreen frozen. I really hope someone can help me

Since you have performed a complete reset and the issue still persists it means there is something wrong with hardware. There is nothing you can do at this moment except to visit the nearest service center. It may a bad display cable or bad touch digitiser
Do you have a microSD inside the phone? Because if you do, try remocing it first. That happened to me as well and only removing the SD card fixed the problem.
