I flashed ktoonz kernel but it disables wifi/wifi hot spot other than that it works great on surges root NC5 method. Can anyone give me a kernel that is functional?

You can not run a custom kernel if you're not on an unlocked or bootloader build, which means the MDK bootloader for the i545. The kernel flash will fail, but the modules will probably flash and break WiFi.
If you're not MDK Loki'd, then you're running a stock kernel with incompatible kernel modules. Flash the NC5 kernel modules to fix it.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I haven't been able to get a definative explanation of the safest way to update to ME7.
Right now I'm running TWRP, with Carbon v1.8 (stable) and baseband I545VRUAMDK. Does updating your radio/baseband to ME7 affect the kernel? Or do you have to flash a custom kernel to switch to ME7? What's the advantage of flashing a custom ME7 kernel as opposed to the stock MDK kernel?
Sorry for so many questions, i'm just nervous about losing my loki'd recovery

You do not want an ME7 kernel due to the lockdown (at least yet).
You can safely flash the radio. It is separate from the ROM and the kernel.
You can safely flash any of the several ME7 ROMs from the dev section.

Thanks for the quick reply, are there specific instructions for only flashing the Radio? Is it just a flashable zip?

andybones has been nice enough to make flashable files for both the MDK & ME7 radios. You can find them both in post #2 from the BoneStock thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384362.
You flash them from recovery much the same as you would a ROM. No need to do a full wipe though - at least as far as I know.
What is the best way to update to the stock MJ7 ROM on a Dev Ed. This should also include the MJ7 Kernel.
I know I can flash a stock rooted MJ7 ROM but I also want the stock MJ7 Kernel or is that even possible.
My 2 cents

no its not possible the kernel has been locked since the first bootloader you can only use the stock mdk kernel or a custom one if you are not on the latest Verizon ota. Dev editions havent been updated

It would be nice to flash a stock MJ7 Kernel but A custom kernel like ktoonsez would be fine.
Hello all, so I have a question or two to ask. My VZW SGS4 is running MK2, Rooted, and has SafeStrap 3.70 B01.
I am trying to install GPE-VZW. But when I flash the ME7 Modules I get a blank screen on Rom boot.
I have read that after flashing the SafeStrap Compatible ROM you need to flash the corresponding Module zip.
Do I need to flash the module that the Rom im trying to install (ME7) is based off of, or do I need to flash the Kernel Modules that correspond to what my stock is running (MK2)?
Also I have tried to pull the dhd.ko and the scsi_wait_scan.ko from MK2 and flash those two on the GPE slot but I still get the blank screen every time.
Other than the blank screen the system seems to be operational, I can press the menu button and get haptic feedback and also UI Sounds...
Very confused
Thank you!

that was for the 4.22 base,
mk2 is 4.3 and right now the only ROM that will work with safestrap 3.70 is Hyperdive 11

Thank you for the information. So with that being said, I have also attempted to install Hyperdrive 11. I get that same black screen issue.
Can you explain how the module files work? I need to flash the one that corresponds to the STOCK rom right? so if im running mk2 on stock, i flash the modules to the rom-slot-1 after HDRLS11. Will the MJ7 modules work?

The kernel module that is needed must match the base of your phone, in your case would be the mk2 kernel module. This is what I know that will not cause issues, you must flash the kernel module immediateky after the ROM install in safestrap without any reboot inbetween. Safestrap allows you to select multiple zips to install, so you would select HD11 zip, then select the kernel module zip and then hit install.
a search in dev thread should turn up the mk2 kernel module you need.
and yes you will have to reinstall HD11 unless someone else can verify you can flash the kernel module later
MK2 modules

Somewhat unrelated but when did the safestrap come out for MK2? If so where could I find it? Does this mean that hyper drive 11 will work with MK2?

Upgrade from MDK, to NC2 to NC5, so as to install Hyperdrive 17.1 All good.
However I cannot get Wifi working
Just for kicks I tried flashing Gogolies NC5 Wifi fix but that didn't do it.
Config:
Baseband MC5
Kernel 3.4.0
Android 4.4.2
Any suggestions?

A little confused here. If you have MDK bootloader there is no need to "upgrade" to anything in order to flash 17.1. Surely you didn't take an OTA that would have messed up your bootloader?

I need one of those keyboards that corrects errors. Meant to type MK2 (the old 4.3).
But the solution to this issue was to flash Gogolies NC2 fix
If a ROM that I am running comes with stock NH5 kernel, can I update it to stock NK2 without having issues? I know you can flash modem and bootloader fine but never did the kernel before. Would it even be beneficial to go from NH5 kernel to NK2?
