Icon on notification bar - what is it? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

After upgrading to 4.3 I now have this weird icon on my notification bar.
Anyone know what it is? The icon between Bluetooth and Alarm Clock

It's the NFC icon. You can disable it by going to Settings/more and uncheck it

Ah! Thanks. That's annoying. I liked it before the update when there was no icon for it.
Notification bar is now full even without notifications :/
Oh well. LG G3 will be here soon.

Were you running a custom rom before the update? With an exception of the NFC icon, all of the same icons existed on stock Sense 4.

No. Always stock from day one.
No, the notifications on the left never existed before this update either.

the notifications with the </> can be disabled by viewing them in the pull down and long pressing on the item, choosing "app info" which will take you to that specific app, and if you don't want to see those notifications uncheck the "show notifications" option - I did this for the ones that would come up when I have my device connected via USB to computer as my notification bar was too full

[SOLVED]What is this icon on my notification bar?

Can somebody please identify what this and how to get rid of it? It doesn't allow any other icons to show unless I pull down the notification bar. It's the icon on the upper left hand corner of the notification bar. It's a grey box with a minus symbol in the middle.

Its a trap!!!
Do you have notifications turned off? Check your toggle in the notification tray.

Pull down the notification bar, scroll right at the top where you have wifi, GPS, sound etc and select "notifications". Your minus sign will go and ordinary notification icons reappear.
Answer after a month and four days? lol
And it has already been answered too!
Methinks thou shouldst stay off ye olde crack good sir.

Unknown notification and email envelope notification not showing

Hi
Can anyone tell me what the icon notification on the top left of my screen shot is?
Also, I have Gmail and the default email application setup with email accounts but I don't seem to get the envelope icon in the notification area when I get a new email now.

You have disable notification (this is why this icon is here and why you have no notification for your new email)

Many thanks.
How do I turn these notifications back on?
Hi
I've got exactly this problem. I never knowingly disabled notifications but now even an SMS won't show it's icon.
I did however install Lightflow... perhaps that caused the issue?
AND the silly left pointing arrow & minus sign icon shows even when there are NO notifications.
Anyway, how do I get these icons to come back?
(PS I'm using a Galaxy S3 but can't edit my signature file below)

Your notifications are off. Pull down your Notification screen and turn on your Notifications. Why they put this in the Notification are, I will never know.
Found it!
Ahh you beat me to it
Thanks I eventually discovered this after exploring some more. I was busily creating a picture when your post came though.
I've attached the picture in case anyone else stumbles across this post with the same issue.

[Q] Gray Arrow with minus or plus sign

I keep reading that the gray arrow with the minus or plus sign is "notifications off" but I don't see a toggle to turn it on or off. It's not in the pull down menu, even if I go right or left. Tmobile and others seem to have it, so maybe AT&T doesn't have the toggle? Where is the setting to turn it on or off?

I asked twice and no one helped. They just said it was there, look. Are people just going to ignore me?
edit: it was moved, sorry good sir, but I asked on other forums (international galaxy s 3) and they didn't say anything.

Nothing, no notifications. I think it changes when I get one, shows a + instead of a - sign. But I rebooted it and it went away. Not sure why it came up in the first place and not sure how to fix it (besides a reboot)
When I installed the chrome browser and did the login the plus thing happened to me too. And when I pulled down the notification bar I was able to click on the plus arrow and it took me to a password login area. Hope that helps bro.

I know that I get the + icon when I have a crap load of notifications (not enough room to show all icons in the status bar). Not sure about the -. Maybe it wants you to hurry up and clear some notifications?

Has anyone figured how to disable the NFC icon in the shade? It's getting crowded up there.
Thanks

Turn off NFC. ... Seriously, that's it on stock.
You can flash custom ROM and choose the International setup and it'll be gone. There's also a mod to make to hide it from view. But again requires root and deodexed ROM.

I think you knew that already tho, just want to disable the icon? I guess follow what he said ^
I know I can disable NFC. But that is not what I'm looking to do.
I want to keep NFC online while only disabling the appearance of the icon in the shade.
I'm familiar with custom roms and the fact that international versions do not have this icon, however I'm looking to maintain my stock att Os
I currently do have root and am using Xposed framework for system modifications
Thank you
Drew

Okay, then this is going to be your best bet. This is the mod I mentioned. It does not make it completely gone, it only makes it invisible.

so you don't get any space back in the status bar, the NFC symbol is just completely transparent?

Right, no space back in the bar. I hate the icon too. :/ I hope someone comes up with a better solution.

NAB. Anyone know which app to freeze to stop suggested app w/headphones?

When you plug in headphones, and slide down notification, it shows suggested apps. What should I freeze with TB to get rid of that? Also, is there something to freeze to get rid if the headphones are plugged in notification too?

You can install wanam, through xposed.installer, gives u the option to disable the headphone notification
Did they disable the ability to just turn off suggested apps?

From wanam, go to sounds and it's the one that says 'hide handset app notification' and 'hide handset notification icon'
Yes, go into settings>application manager> all>page buddy noti sync and simply turn off. Viola
