ART extremely slow - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says it all, my Galaxy S3 with SlimKat and Googy Max2 is EXTREMELY laggy on ART. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, using ART.
ART is still experimental and many app developers have yet to optimise for it.

You must be doing something wrong ..slowness of the device cannot be due to ART.
Check the processor speed and animation scale ...apps misbehaving due to ART is a know issue but I have never heard of a device being slow due to ART

Because in the nexus it came with software not ported

Slow touch response on launchers

I have been using galaxy s2 for 6 months now and its a great phone, best android I've used in terms of performance and gaming. I compared the phone with some other phones during these 6 months. One thing i noticed is the delay in touch response when using other launchers. I am a big fan of go launcher and launcher 7. But when I tried them on my friend's xperia neo V, launcher 7 was buttery smooth and on s2 response to touches was a bit late. Same was noticed on a few other high and mid range phones. You may think its a problem with my phone, but I dont think so, when you compare the phones side-by-side, there is some delay which is always noticeable. I am using siyah, using touch-move app, but still I think scrolling on homescreen on launchers should be a little more smoother... Just asking, is there something wrong with my phone or do you experience the same?

Whats the rom/kernel do you use? I use checkrom with siyah 2.6.7, tried all governers but launcher 7 still lags while scrolling a long list of tiles

There is an app called Touch Move by tegrak, you can lower your touch sensitivity within that app.

Xperia S lags even with 6.1.A.2.45

Hi people!
I want to ask some opinions about te Xperia S lags . The rom 6.1.A.2.45 has improved soo much the speed even in my opinion the XS is always too laggy.
Expecially when search in browser the autocomplete feature cause soo much lags!
In general the phone reactivity is always very bad.
Installing Cyanogenmod 9.1 the things change. very fast and smooth.
So i think: 1)Sony developers are very bad in Android port to Xperia 2) Cyanogenmod team are very good developers
What do you think about it?
Thanks..
cheers.
I was shopping for a new phone for my wife last week and had a play with the Xperia P in the shop. OMG, it ran sooo much faster than my XS and the XS they had (both on GB).

...we must consider and compare them with a clean install... obviously...
other issue of Xperia S in my opinion is the handset free. too low volume!
I'm considering to replace the XS with a Galaxy Nexus

Did you enable the forced gpu rendering?
Sent from my Xperia S using xda premium
check out the time apps need to be fully loaded(will be even slower when gpu rendering is enabled) + keep an eye on any app you open, wait for like 20 minutes and it will disappear out of the RAM so it will literally restart when you launch it again(slow as hell!!!!) multitasking is just screwed on this ics .. cm9 is superior in any circumstances over the stock ics rom although its not as beautiful ..

Gpu rendering is for the ui not the code based stuff so enabling it will make the device faster ie word predictions since the cpu won't render the ui anymore.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sent from my Xperia S using xda premium
forcing gpu rendering means every event or anything has to go through the GPU. apps accelerated by the gpu will increase their RAM usage, therefore slowing down the system and their startup
tried gpu rendering ... not so much improvment.
on my phone cyanogenmod is so far better in smoothness than stock. Much muc more. Why ?

Any custom ROM that is based on Android 4.2.1. Your current list is CM10.1, SlimBean, task650's AOKP, AOKP, Illusion, and LiquidSmooth. Jellybam will be updating sometime today for the I9300, hopefully soon for the other SIII variants (d2att, d2tmo, etc.). I have tried all of them so far except for Jellybam on my AT&T SIII, and CM10.1 nightlies were working the best for me, but the rest give you some more options since they are AOKP-based.
Good luck

Yep i had jellybam but it has a lock screen bug cannot wake up again after locked the problem is I don't want to loose s3 features like touchwiz, multi window amd others
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
You tried the Jellybam for I9300? He got that out fast
Just bear in mind that the only version so far of android to natively support widgets on the lock screen is jellybean 4.2.1.

Widgets aren't supported on TouchWiz since the S3 hadn't updated to 4.2.1 yet. If you want your ToucjWiz and stuff, check out an app called WidgetLocker.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Jellybam nightly for s3 already includes the new lockscreen with widgets and new quick settings and all the stuff but well it has that lockscreen lag that makes it impossible to use it probably
Edit: it's the thing that i want the new Android stuff always but don't like the original android looking as on nexus but different from many others I love the s3 touchwiz
Unfortunately the won't ever be stuff from the premium suite on aosp or aokp roms, so i can't wait for 4.2 for s3 ^^

What exactly do you mean by lockscreen lag? I know that on nearly every ROM I have tried out, there are issues with the screen wake function, where it sometimes takes two or the presses to wake it up. From what I can tell, this is a problem with AOSP in its entirety.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Lockscreen lag: when you lock your phone and try to wake up again (with home or lock button) screen turns on for a millisecond and shut down again so you cannot unlock your phone again and need to restart phone and this is everytime not just from time to time it makes the rom unusable I tried everything full wipe etc
(Hope you understand my English is not the best)

Version 5.1.0 is notoriously unbootable. You get to a bootloop at the boot animation on all the d2 devices so far. iGio90 is supposed to be releasing a fixed 5.2.0 version on Monday.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Ok, so you can look forward to monday. Because this rom is nearly perfect. Just some issues with touchwiz indicator and the lack of multiwindow/ pagebuddy (samsung features that probably won't ever get into aosp/aokp unfortunatly =() - But for me, the best android 4.2.1 rom around.
Hello how do I put the list of activities on the lock screen?
thanks

Real Racing 3 Sound Lag!

Hello guys!, i hope some can give me a hand, ive installed CM 11 and ive been using it since day one, but the only thing that anoys me is the sound lag on RR3, ive serch a lot for a fix to this but i just cant find any, the game runs great a mean i think its 30fps and its smoth as hell but the sound is all mess up, anyone else have this problem, or theres a way to fix this, i really like the game and also cm11. :s
No fix for that.. It's something with cm audio libs..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
Deal with it. Our S3 hardware is outdated a bit..
A believe it's not about hardware.
RR3 sound is working fine on a stock roms.
The majority of people who experience this lag use CM.
(or it's smartphone with mediatek CPU)
So it means that the problem is in CM audio.

Try using another audio engine, like boeffela sound, or acid audio engine. You can also go back to stock or change your rom.

1. if we can hope for a fix from CM
2. if we have to install an other audio engine on our own (and if yes...how? )
i for myself have downgraded to CM10.2 again so that i can play my favourite game again :/
Thanks a lot

Hey mate,
You are absolutely correct about the sound lag on cm11 rom. Its solely a rom's problem. I was using this build from some developer and the rom was pretty smooth and everything and the only issue was the laggy music, not only in games but with the music player too.
Couldn't find a fix but I came accros this Dokdo-Project rom today and the music lag was nowhere to be found!
The only problem I got with the Dokdo rom is that I think the UI color correction and DPI settings are somewhat different and the screen looks a bit washed-out. (may be its just me?) I'm thinking of merging the roms together so that I could fix the sound lag issue on the first cm11 rom.
Got any idea about which libraries or folders related to the sound/music playback on cm11?
Regards.
since there are several new versions out since we posted this problem, is there ANYONE who is playing RR3 on a Galaxy S3 with an actual CM11 Mod?
now with M4 there was several bugfixes, maybe it's worth a try since i tested with M1

having the same problem here..running SuperNexus Android 4.4 KitKat ROM build 1
I had the ressurection remix rom for s3 and this sound bug wasnt happening. Now im on cm11 and i didnt tested rr3 so not sure if it is fixed or not. But if you want to try the rom gor yourself

Cm11 does supports ART, I have used it
I've also used ART on CM11. It works, but maybe less fluent than with stock4.4.4?
It seems that there will not be any L update for moto E.

Used ART on cm11 by cybojenix. Performance got poor, delay in every action, installation of apps take a long time + got an FC in xposed installer which didn't come up on dalvik

Android L runs on ART and performance of moto E on art is very poor.
ART atleast on 4.4.2 ran smoothly on Moto E. Faced no problem at all. Only shifted to Dalvik as apps cannot be moved to sd card on stock rom in ART presently. Never tried ART in the new 4.4.4 update. But I think hardware wise Moto E has no problem running L. Hope for the best
Google’s first super cheap ‘Android One’ phones may debut in September. Definitely One does not run on ART and I think Google is concentrating ART only for high end phones.

Well this is nt true, the ART we saw in the KitKat builds ws just beta and ws for testing purposes only thus was unstable and was not optimized.
ART will perform much better and stable in Android L, even on lower end devices too! [emoji6]
Not satisfactory according to my usage.

ART is best feature in android.. To make the app run fluid and it will reduce the memory and CPU usage at runtime. But it take extra space in internal memory for storing the compiled code also... As google stated that art in android L will reduce the size of compiled code and time taking to compile while installing app.... So probably we get android L but the internal memory is not enough to many app.....
