Hi - just wondering if anyone managed to get the new Google Dialer working on the Sony Z2
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...-4-3-works-on-android-4-4-2-too-apk-download/
That is one of the main feature I miss from my Nexus 5, the Caller ID!!
Thanks
It installs and opens just fine but crashes when I try to call
Installs fine but crashes when making a call or pressing call history icon.

maybe it will work on AOSP rom only.
You need more than just the dialer. It requires other apks, can't remember them off of the top of my head

I miss the Google dialer because the Sony one doesn't integrate well with Google Voice All my outgoing calls look like they are to random numbers!

That's good to know. I just started using GV after getting my Z2 and those random numbers have been driving me crazy.
I also just started using built in SIP with Tue stock dialer and shows calls as [email protected] address, I hope the Google dialer will the IP address off.
Both of those make it so you can really use your recent call history to make calls.
There was some things with the interface I like better on the Z2 dialer than the Google dialer I was using on my old phone except that it does rotate while in call in landscape.

Does anyone know the name of text messaging app for wifi Honeycomb tablets?
You can send text messages via the gogle voice app now, if you don't mind using your google voice number instead.

Once you have the google voice number set up just go into the market and download the app. Go through the initial install and the option to compose a message is at the top of the screen

Textab is pretty cool. Gets the job done for me.
But as already mentioned google voice is probably the best choice.

theres a app called textab and pretty much you connect your phone to your tablet (via Bluetooth) and you receive and send texts through your tab. your have to get it for your tab and your phone
So far the SGS2 is great except for one thing, the antiquated voice mail system app.
As much as the iPhone sucked a chubby, it did have that one good feature. I’ve searched the Market and Forum for something comparable but came up empty handed. I’m not looking for Dialers, Contacts, Voice Dial, or anything else fancy; I just want that damn Apple Voice Mail interface.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Would love to see someone put it in the stock Phone/Dialer.

you use your own number. it just forwards all unanswered calls straight to your GVoice voicemail

Install Google Voice from the market, and then run it. Just follow the steps.
Don't know why I didn't install this earlier cause it freaking rules.

you can use google voice for free texting from your actual number? I used heywire for free texting, but people that texted my real # weren't notified that I couldn't receive texts, then I split an "unlimited" with a friend for $30/mo
Google voice does it for free from your real # without error?

yup. Or you can choose a new gvoice number, like having 2 lines, but ones is totally free! And people can call and text that number, and you will receive it on your device, also you can choose before each call whether to call from your g voice number or your reg number.
I have fully adopted my GVoice number and it is what I give out now. The two main issues are:
Dropping MMS without notification
Some OS or App text integration doesn't work
I love the widgets available to the Samsung Galaxy line of phones but does anyone have experience using them with Google Voice?

I dunno if I can fully answer this, but I'll try.
Using LightFlow, I receive LED light notifications as well as text notifications for any SMS, and emails for MMS - however, I get the "normal" email message notification for MMS, not something that specifically tells me it's an MMS. The widgets aren't super-helpful with MMS, but again, i don't really get/use the GV number for them.
I haven't had any issues with App integration, but I only have texted/used it from the mail app and Chrome, so I dunno if that will answer that question. I don't think I've immersed myself as much as you have, but when I use GV, it has worked great.
This was on my S3 - I had a Tmobile GN2 for a week and it worked just as well. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I wasn't expecting any better integration with GV in this device than other android device.

really?
there has got to be a way to integrate this better. i mean..this is android, and a google app..come on! lol.
Voice has become another red headed stepchild lately, it seems. Been waiting on them to do something about the MMS thing for years. Not a big deal to not get them, but it should at least tell you that you're not getting something someone is attempting! App integration has been bugging me more too. They really need to get on with polishing up the app, or at least open up the api's to let others do what they want to it.
I'm running Peetr's Hybrid rom and noticed that It doesn't have a built in voicemail handling app. So if someone leaves me a voicemail I just get a really wierd text message instead. I was using PF voicemail for call forwarding and voicemail since I was having major service coverage issues and that will tell you missed calls no matter what. But I don't want to use that anymore since it's slow and I'm having problems with it. So my question is. What do I use for voicemail? Is there anything similar to that visual voicemail app that originally came with my phone? Free would be great but if it works I would shell out a couple bucks.
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm using the AOKP JB Rom (thx 3bill) and get multiple text messages for each voicemail. Personally, I loved the visual voicemail that came stock and I'm hoping there's a way to port it in. You can still check your voicemail though just by dialing yourself. BTW, how do you like that Rom as I haven't tried it yet but am loving the AOKP one?
Well this rom is about as good as it gets for me since I have a locked bootloader. But it is very nice compared to stock. I'm using Google voice right now for voice mail and it works pretty good so far. I just wish my texts didn't show up in it at all.

I use Google Voice. It's very configurable. When a voicemail comes in it can notify you by text, e-mail, etc. plus the standard functions you had with visual voicemail that came with the phone. The key is to go into Google Voice web site settings and prevent it from prescreening your calls and handling your texts.

Yep. I just found that out today. I was wondering why the hell it kept asking me to press numbers to answer my calls.

You can turn that off in settings. Not on the app, but on the website. It refers to feature as 'call screening'.
Does anyone know how to get google voice voicemails to show up in the touchwiz dialer(I have the setting checked in GV)? Evidently, they don't play well together. Is there a work around?
bump
As long as I can remember google voice notifications only appear in the pulldown notification area as notifications from google voice as an app. I am not aware of any dialer integration other than for when making calls the option to run the call through google voice.
Prior to using google voice there would be a message waiting indicator that would only clear once you dialed your vm and listened to your new messages, this is somthing that to my understanding is only able to be controlled by your carrier not an app.
Hope this helps!

I am looking for the same functionality. For those that may not know exactly what is stated in OP, Google voice has an option for voice mails to appear under the call log with the option to playback workout using GV. It works under AOSP roms. This functionality would be great on stock touchwiz, bit its not a deal breaker for me. Interested if anyone has found a way.
