ROM suggestions for a simple user - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey guys,
My dad has been using my RAZR running 4.1.2 for a year now and I plan to move it to a KitKat based ROM. I've haven't visited these forums in a while so I'm really out of touch with the ROM scene.
I need help in choosing a simple Kitkat ROM (preferably no pie/halo and no extensive customization). Stability is of paramount importance.
Any suggestions will be extremely helpful. Kudos!

Deneyebilirsin.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Slimkat. I have been following this ROM since its creation. This last build, 5.2 is seriously flawless, not just saying that because it is my favorite. I have tried other KK Roms for the XT912 on VZW and they all seem to have some kind of issue. APN issues, system UI crashes, random restarts, freezes forcing me to reboot, high battery drain, wakelock issues. The 5.2 SK, with the latest Slim GAPPS seems stable enough so far to flash to my stock slot... still waiting to pull that trigger though. I have been running this setup for about two weeks now since I got my insurance replacement and it has been great! I have not had any crashes, freezes, or lockups. Everything works flawlessly (Wifi, bluetooth, MMS, etc)
It does not have a lot of in depth extras like pie, halo, or cpu control. You can install those later if you want. I have trickster mod installed as a CPU governor, but the stock kernel and settings are just fine too. It does have all the necessary KK features and other extras I like. Full dark, quick tiles and customization, lots of shortcuts, status bar customizations, privacy guard settings for apps, and most of all great battery life. I consistently get a good 20 hours on a charge with fairly heavy usage with voice calls, and streaming siriusXM app, or play music.
Total time from rooting, flashing the newest SS (which allows for bigger partitions now!!!), D-loading and flashing SK rom and Gapps, then restoring apps/data from TI backup all took about an hour or so with absolutely no problems. This ROM is sure to bring new life into the not so outdated RAZR.
Hope this helps and let us know what you decide and how it works out.

I just flashed the 5.2 SK, I also have on my xt910maxx LS and RR. it is a simple rom, without so many extra features. I will give it a go to see the stability and battery life. just one question: from were can I download omniswich and active display?

Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime I've crossed off LiquidSmooth and Resurrection Remix off my list. Way too many features. I'll be trying PA, CM11 M6 and Slimkat next.
EDIT: The RAZR is on SlimKat. I'm impressed. Waiting for dad's response!

i found am alternativ for activdisplay-acdisplay. Amyone has an alternativ for omnyswich? Or domething similar to accrs favorite apps from any window?

I flashed slimkat on a friend's razr, and he is very happy with kitkat!
Simple, fast and stable.
However CM is always a good choice

If you just want the Pure Stock Experience ..which has not many customizations ...i think you can go for CM11
all other ROMS have Pie Halo and other extensive customizations!!
Best Regards!

I'm far from experienced, but I have tried Slim, CM and Axxion. The Axxion is by far the most stable Rom I have used.

Thanks for the suggestions, should help me out..

Eclipse is a pretty smooth aosp 4.3

I would also recommend paranoid android rc2 as being the most streamlined solid rom as well as cyanogenmod 11 the m7 build is pretty stable though I am using the most recent nightly build which is also running well. Both are now really stable and reliable.

slimkat 5

i'm gonna try another rom, but don't know which rom should i try first
please help me
if they don't work on swiftdroid I don't think they work better on others rom
I think the best rom is swiftdroid RC4 with RC5 bootfile
SwiftDroid RC4 with boot from RC5.

Why?
I tested Mike Gapinski ROM. It's fine. Why you think SwiftDroid works better?
Mike's rom is awesome beside the lag otherwise i would say it is fast and smooth, angrybird runs smoothly aswell
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
PcFighter's aosp 2.2.2 is very smooth and stabil
MuR4ik's Rom is awesome, but the best roms are the ones based in official 2.1, I think!
If you prefer performance and battery life over everything then Mike's AOSP is your choice
Aosp 2.2.7 froyo Pcfighter - very good and fast rom,and AOSP ;D
wrong thread, post in Q&A
currently im' using SwiftDroid 2.0 RC5, firstly upon fastbooting, i clean out system apps, remove a whole bunch of them like DSP, Picotts, tts, stock launcher, stock keyboard, all live wallpaers, live wallpaprer picker, gmail, talk, maps, news and weather widget, spare parts, dve tols, quick settings, gallery 3d, home screen tips, one time init, and more, can't remember what
system rom is 157mb and 44.6 is empty
i install smart keyboard, cause it has internal calibration, and rom itself is very miscalibrated, and with my big fingers, i just cant write an SMS, i add launcherpro dropbox quickpicgallery and facebook messenger(Not the app, only messenger app
after that i apply touch wizz theme, icon pack suave hd and last V6 Supercharger --> IMHO the most important, NEVER EVER ran out of memory or had a launcher redraw
never had smoother rom than this.
only thing that can drive me away from this is ICS in some stabil build.
ONLY thing missing is that freakin calibration.
Utopia is the best and very stable rom for me. Try, you will not regret it.
Regards
A little bump, I don't know if I should have opened a new topic or not but I hope you can forgive me.
I am very happy with my Optimus but the phone started to show wrong battery stats a while ago and I finally decided to fix that but I need some advice.
The details:
Code:
Version 2.2.1
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected]
Mod version: OpenSwift/CyanogenMod-6.1.1
Everything was fine for 1.5 years, my battery lasted for 7-10 days (I only use my phone for sms/calls/listening to music/occasional Internet and Google maps search/. But for a few months now, the battery stats are wrong all the way, I charge my phone fully and after few minutes it is on 80% percent but I know that this is wrong because my battery lasts as usual. Sometimes it says 15% or less ("please connect your charger") and shuts down my phone, but after a while, I turn it back on and the phone lasts for several more hours without charging. This is really annoying because one time, I had to make an urgent call, my phone shut down and later I turned it on and the battery lasted a long time without the need to recharge so this is basically a software issue if I recall correctly.
I have two questions:
Should I use an android app to recalibrate my battery or is there a better, manual way to do it?
Should I change to another ROM? I want the ROM which gives me the most battery life but I also want root access e.g. without any restrictions. I saw that the Utopia ROM is suggested but it says:
Does not work:
...
Native USB tethering

I want to be able to use my Optimus as a modem with the PdaNet application and if I think correctly, I won't be able to do it with the Utopia ROM or am I wrong?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

pure CM9 vs CM9 builds like hydrog3n or resurrection

hey guys I'm trying to make my way around to all these roms to try for myself. just wanted to get a headsup on what to expect? what are some differences between pure cm9 and cm9 builds like hydrog3n and resurrection.
like I had cm7 on my sgs1 and it had built in BLN that didnt rape battery, I'm not seeing that on my hydro rom. also getting a weird bug where task manager pops up over lockscreen when unlocking .. anyways ill drop some thanks rep to anyone who gives feedback

pure cm9 is pure、fast and clean, even without file Exploerer.
Hydrog3n and Resurrection build is based on AOKP,which have more setting about UI and CPU/IO control

They are all AOSP based, most of the AOSP based ROMs for the SGS2 at least use the device setup from CM9 and usually add their own tweaks and themeing to it, but the overall experience is going to be similar, keep in mind however that CM9 updates on a fairly regular basis (nightlies aren't every night atm, but close) whereas some of these other ROMs may take weeks to incorporate new AOSP features. As for BLN you would need a custom kernel for this, CM stock doesn't currently support it, also on the SGS2 BLN holds a wake lock where on the SGS it did not, this will cause far more drain on the SGS2 than you experienced on the SGS, unfortunately this doesn't appear avoidable.
Pure CM9 > Update Faster
CM9 builds like hydrog3n > Have AOKP, more tweak as the above said
CM9 builds like resurrection > Have AOKP merged with gapps
i dont use google service, just sync contact and mail from Google, so i choose in between hydrog3n and CM9
finally,i choose to use Pure CM9 as it updated faster.
Hydrog3n is a very good rom. A lot of tweak and a cm9 base. But the battery life is not optimized for this time.

A good place to start here would be to read each ROM's thread. We have enough clutter and non-meaningful conversation as it is. We don't need anymore lazy users asking for the Cliff Notes.

[Q] What is the most basic ROM out there?

I'm currently using SuperNexus and love it. No bloat, pretty much a raw jelly bean OS. Everything works fine. The only thing I'm missing that I really wish I had, was the notification toggles. The app store has some apps that mimic the feature but none of them work the way I like,
So, can anyone tell me which ROM is as basic as SuperNexus, but with the notification toggles integrated?
Temasek's build
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797109
I will check it out.
I'm sort of confused. A lot of ROMs say they are based off CM10. So is CM10 pretty much the pure Android OS with no extras? I can't find a feature list for CM10.
Yeah its based off AOSP, a lot roms use CM10 as a base depending on what hardware the cm10 was built for
Thanks. I will check out Temaseks in a second.
I am glad I found omega ROM v34, it's a nice try for me & I think I'm gonna stick with it..
Use CM10 for pure android experience. You can install notification toggle mod in your rom too if you only want that feature.
I'm also using SuperNexus too and is a great ROM for a pure stock android experience, I missed the notification toggles too but found this app and it does everything i want and even more check it out is called Notification Toggles

I would suggest SlimBean! It's truly Basic AOSP with the main features needed! I am loving this ROM and no bugs with it at all. Check out their thread. It is one of my favourite ROMs ever, also they update it frequently.

[Q] AOSP vs CM11

Both are good

I think both roms are good and popular both have pros and cons and based on stock rom
The current CM 11 rom suffers from soft reboots, so at this point definitely AOSX(The X is for Xperia).
Although the devs have said that the next build will be having all AOSX patches, sources etc. So then probably both would be same just CM will have extra functionality.
For Xperia P CM11 weekly 4 is more stable at the moment for me, with extra functionality, but AOSX are working a lot making AOSP stable, the extra functionality could be solved with xposed and gravity box
Has anybody managed to get the BBC iPlayer app to work in either AOSX or CM11?
I just get a black screen and stuttering audio.
(Note that you may have to be in the UK to use it anyway, I am in the UK.)
Also, in AOSX the back button would stop working in Facebook which was rather annoying.
GMail syncing seemed to get stuck a lot too.
Otherwise they are both good, but I slightly preferred AOSX+Gravity Box to CM11.
I've gone back to Sony 4.1.2 rom for now until AOSX matures, but I have every faith in those devs.

Cm 11 question

I like the simplicity of cm 11 but the only thing keeping me away from it is a feature. Why doesn't cm have lock screen notifications like other roms?I have seen that the latest snapshot has heads up notifications. Those are cool but I like the loscreen notifications. I know I can use another rom, but other roms have a lot of other stuff that I don't need nor use. For example Like halo omni switch and other stuff.

The best lock screen notification app I've come across is NiLS from the Store. Looks and behaves just like the built in ones you are talking about.
Some Roms just haven't yet included things like that because either they just don't want to or there not at that stage yet where they are comfortable releasing that feature
If you want to try a really sweet rom that does have them along with some other great features without being a total Kanger ROM I highly suggest the latest Vanir Commotio .
It's running flawless for me with Alucards latest kernel. Stable not one FC and battery and performance are awesome.
