I do not have any data or voice connection. My phone is just a digital phone book at the moment. Early Monday morning around 2am the phone was working fine I had voice and data. Around 4am I look at my phone and there is an X above the signal bars.
So far I have tried dialer codes- the phone seems it does not recognize them, nothing happens (the view and edit modes do not come up)
soft reset, hard reset
Restoring a back up-no luck
Run the newest 4.3 RUU-no luck had data for a few seconds then gone again
Tired running ViperRUU-still no luck
I also tried to call Sprint but as usual they were no help
My phone is Locked but S-off

Try ##72786#, then select reset from the menu once it pops up. If that doesn't work, do ##3282# and hit reset. You'll need your MSL code to do this. You can call Sprint and get it or use the free MSL reader app from the Play store. You have to be on a Sense ROM to use dialer codes.
Edit: Saw where you tried the dialer codes already. You'll need a ROM with EPST support to use them. Hit up my Q&A thread for the Sense 5.5 ROM-one of the FAQ's in the second post explains how to do this.

I thought Viper 4.0 support EPST? I will try to restore my Sense 5.5 back up and try again. But when I try to use the dialer codes they don't work. I can enter the code but it seems like the dialer freezes and it doesn't take the code. I have to hit the home button to get out of the frozen dialer.

1. Turn on the airplane
2. Go into settings and into the auto setup thingy. I forget what exactly it's called in that ROM, but it's almost always right above the software updates section. After it tries for a few seconds, hit the home button.
3. Now go to apps and under "all", find "phone". Clear it's cache/data
4. Right afterwards, and with airplane still on, reboot your phone.
This probably won't fix your problem, but should reset the godonlyknowswhat so that ##SCRTN# & ##DATA# are again recognized by your phone (assuming you're on a sense-based ROM).
I had this exact same problem and that fixed it (well the dialer problems anyway). Not 100% sure why either.

Thanks, That got the dialer codes working, not all the time but few times so I can enter the codes. Now It will not do the hands free connection. 1012 is the error code coming up. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and bring it into a sprint repair store, and hopefully its something easy to fix
Well the damn Sprint repair store was closed. But I was able to finally fix my phone. I used the ##786# dialer code and did a factory reset. Thank you everyone for the help.

Thank you.
I had something very similar after flashing a new ROM, Im now on leedroid with no problems so It might be the rom you are using?
unrooted stock rom :/ everything is stock
Try going to settings/phone update/update profile and see if updating your profile helps.
I don't have phone update in the settings :S
Sorry....it should be System Updates
It says that I already have the latest version... but everything worked, I don't know why this happened.
could go into phone programming and reset your data profile
##3282#, edit mode, enter your msl number, data profile, menu, restore.
this code doesn't work for me
I have a dumb question probably, but mobile network is checked in wireless and networks settings right ? And the mobile network settings are right, domestic data and voice should both be checked.
If all that is correct then i would take it to or call sprint and let them fix it. Sounds like an error on their side to me since your phone is stock.
Of course the settings are correct, because I can browse internet. And everything has worked until few days ago.. i don't want to bother with factory reset and that stuff, i'll just wait for ics to come.. if then something won't work then i'll contact htc...
If you go to the phone dialpad, ##3282# doesn't work, then something definately is wrong with your phone.

QPST does work on stock. Also, since I work for sprint I would recommend just doing a master reset since this is the first thing they will do when you take it in. Yeah it sucks having to set everything back up, but it will probably fix your issue.

I was just about to suggest that the APN's weren't correct, or to reset them, so maybe an apology to the person you told "Of course all the settings are correct" !?!?
Simple fix anyway, glad it's working.
If you ever have a problem like this in the future, chances are it's a phone issue, then a network issue then a rom issue, but ultimately a human issue.
Resetting the phone can always rule out the rom, trying another sim can rule out the rom, calling your network can rule out the network, i get issues like this on a daily basis, it's 9 /10 human error.
Oh an just a heads up, quite a few people tried to help you here and you said thanks not once?
I recently purchased an HTC Evo V 4G on Virgin Mobile. Otherwise known as the HTC Evo 3D (it even says Sprint on the case.)
I'm having this problem where seemingly at random I will attempt to make a call or a text and it won't go through. My signal bar will suddenly drop to 0 and when it comes back I am unable to do anything. No data, calls, or texts will go through. I am then forced to restart my phone (with Fastboot off otherwise I need to take out the battery) to get it working again. It's hard to notice when this happens unless I notice I'm not getting any texts back. At that point I call my voicemail to see if it works.
Was this a problem people had with the phone on Sprint? Is this new to VM and caused by that? I'm not a new VM customer either. I never have problems like this. I don't know if there's conflicting apps causing weird behavior, it's something on VMs causing the behavior, if this is a known issue, etc.
Any help or guidance I can get will be much appreciated.

I'm not sure about the error but I have had weird things like that (not same) happen to me since flashing the vm firmware from the leak and using an ics rom. Going to airplane mode and back usually helps me, might save the trouble of restarting.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Same thing happening here!!!! I flashed the vm firmware so I'm guessing it's that
I've tried airplane mode to no avail.
I'm on Virgin Mobile... I wonder if it matters that I have a Sprint labeled phone? I assume that VM users are getting old stock of the EVO 3D and they didn't want to bother re-branding until they ran out. Which means that I'm in nearly the same situation: I have the EVO 3D flashed with the VM ROM. Maybe that's causing issues?
Try one thing, I believe I fixed my problem for now at least. Dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information, scroll all the way down and the preferred network mode should be set to "WCDMA". Change it to "CDMA auto (PRL)" then restart your phone. If you are already on the one I'm telling you to change to then I got no idea. I was getting the exact same error codes as you and that random service drop, haven't had it since I made this change. Let me know how it goes

I don't know the technicalities but I just know that it fixed for me and in the past have seen people recommended that.. it all comes down to just messing with it yourself you know, it's not dangerous to change if anything goes wrong just revert back
the same thing happened to me, and i flashed back to the sprint firmware using the firmware recovery thread, and that seemed to fix things, however i don't know what flashing sprint firmware is going to do

##3282# from dialer
go to edit mode and enter msl(use msl reader from market if ur rooted, if ur not rooted u will have to ask sprint for it)
hit menu at top right corner of edit screen "reset"
This will re-provision ur data profile with Virgin Mobile and clear out any hodgepodge. But if u bought the phone from VM and its doing that I doubt a data profile restore will fix the problem. I had the Sprint 3d and flashed the VM ICS leak and it caused the same problem for me and most of the other Sprint users that flashed it. I think it has something to do with how ICS interacts with the carrier network (radio interface daemon) hence the "radio interface resource shortage" error. Once once the developers realized the VM firmware was not need to flash ICS, it worked flawlessly with Sprint firmware.

I knew the first thing I should have done is root this phone... especially since I'm coming from an Optimus V that was rooted 90% of the time I had it if not more.
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it!
I tried getting my MSL and was unsuccessful. Is this something phone specific or account specific? I found my MSL from my last phone since that's rooted.
I don't know if it's caused by ICS, my Windows setup, or what but attempting to finding my MSL was a hassle this time around. I can get pretty far into the steps but since the guide isn't written for my phone there seems to be something I'm doing wrong. I read through hundreds of comments and tried everything I could, too.

If u asked them for it and they wouldn't give it to you just tell them you are having problems getting your phone to access data and send texts with the network and can they walk you through how to reprovision it. They should tell you to dial ##3282# and enter a code. That 6 digit code they read out to you is your MSL. Write it down.

I was playing with the *#*#4636#*#* menu in CMX and changed my band to Australia. I then lost all connectivity but wifi. I figured I'd just nandroid back to my fully functioning CMX - I was wrong. After restoring the nandroid, the phone still won't connect to anything but wifi.
I then saw this post and flashed meanbean to use the Sense dialer.
None of the instructions worked! When I try to ##786# reset all my data, the phone will do its thing and then boot back up into meanbean and ask me sign in to my accounts.
The DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1 doesn't exist in my build.prop as seen in this post so I can't use the simple method. :crying:
Any help is greatly appreciated. I only have wifi while I'm at work, so in 5 hours I'll be screwed.
EDIT: Almost fixed it! I nandroided back to CMX and tinkered with some more advanced settings. I figured I can't hurt anything more than I have. It's now connecting to the network and 3G, but says it needs activated. Finally, progress!

Thanks guys, I did get it fixed. Once I got some sort of connection reestablished I needed to activate the phone. I called Sprint customer service from my work phone and they refreshed all my data/connections. That allowed me to connect to the network, but not use it (if that makes any sense). I then downloaded the deodexed stock rooted JB ROM from here. After flashing that and booting into it, it said "hands free activation" and then starting updating the PRL before asking me to set up my accounts.
Hopefully my story helps anyone who gets caught up in this issue.
One more thing, upon reinstalling my cmx nandroid, I checked the build.prop file and it had the DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1
I changed it and that's how I got the phone to reconnect to the network (still no use of the signal though at that moment). That's when I flashed to the stock rooted ROM and everything was fine from there.

I use an unlocked Sprint phone in India, with the following specs after the update (via the link from HTC).
Operator: Reliance Communications in India
Android Version: 4.3
HTC Sense Version: 5.0
Software Version: 4.13.651.3 CLS310297
HTC SDK API Level: 5.45
Kernel Version: 3.4.10-g3d7f5f9 / [email protected] #1
Baseband Version: 1.13.11.1105
Unlocked / S-ON / Unrooted (root gone after update)
After almost 20 days of usage post 4.3 update, I discovered the following issues. Are they confirmed issues or related only to me? I tried searching various threads for solutions but could not find ones pertaining to few issues listed below.
1) Weak signal strength - I live in the same house, but now not only are the signal bars almost nil (which I gather indicates data signal), I get call drops due to loss of signals and most times people complain of my phone being unreachable.
2) Mobile Hotspot - My mobile hotspot sharing keeps switching off. First I thought it must be due to poor signal strength, but I have checked in different places including places where there is full signal strength. But it just doesn't seem to stay on. And most times, the moment Hotspot gets connected, the data signal goes off, switching off the hotspot.
3) Heats up - My phone heats up tremendously every time mobile data is activated instead of wifi. It happens while trying to switch on mobile hotspot, playing music or videos too. It becomes too hot to hold.
4) Personalise default ringtone - Both ringtone and notifications reverts to default tones - 'Sense' and 'Teal', within half hour of changing to other tones. I have tried with built in tones and downloaded tones, and even with other apps such as ringtone makers to change the default tone to something else, but they just revert to the Sense and Teal.
5) Beats Audio - The Beats Audio keeps coming and going while playing music. Earlier I never encountered that problem, but now its consistent. Sometimes I have to switch it off and on manually to make it come back; other times an incoming message ringtone activates it while listening to music.
6) Poor battery life - Earlier I used to charge my fully charged phone only by evening after extensive usage during the day. Now by lunch time, I need to put it for charge again.
7) Root gone - After the update the root is gone and so has custom recovery (TWRP). I have unlocked the phone again, but unable to reload TWRP with Goo Manager or other methods. How to get root back?
8) Task killer - I miss the simple X next to each app to kill the app. Currently I use Clean Master, but it actually does not clean. I kill the apps, but they seem to be still running. How best can I kill those apps?
9) Contact Images - The images synchronised with Facebook are highly pixelated. Only when I open the contact, the images becomes clear. But after a day or so, they go back to being pixelated, even if those contacts haven't changed their profile pics on Facebook.
I am yet to explore fully to discover if there are other issues with this update such as roaming data etc.
Please help with solutions.
For signal, try toggling from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only and see if that helps. For root, you must first install a special TWRP recovery, the goo version will not work. Use the one in Captain_Throwback's thread. Install via fastboot.
Captain's thread is here:

Your firmware is messed up, your battery and antenna algorithm is screwed for some reason, maybe bad root or unlocking.....etc
You have two choices:
Backup 'n' Reset or...
Backup 'n' flash a new firmware which is the real fix if it was a software program.
Don't forget to hit thanks button if this helped you.
There is also a newer RUU that was issued. This has the roaming data enabled. Install this first then follow my steps above. The download is located here:

Let me start by thanking you. I just did! I took back-up and reset the phone. Most of the problems listed above (1,2,4,6 & 9) solved.
3) still heats up. 5) Haven't got chance to try out Beats issues (its apparently a known issue). 8) Nothing can be done about missing X in task killer.
As for point 7) on Root, where can I find only the flashable TWRP for USB fastboot? Will it work on existing RUU downloaded from original HTC link?

So I did a restore using the LG tool and I am missing the wifi calling app. I can't seem to get it at all from any source, I've read some discussions about it but haven't gotten anywhere with it.
Anyone have some advice ? Ive tried all the ## diag numbers and all of that to try to get the sprint software to load but it doesn't load the WIFI calling app or any other sprint apps.

I'm not sure if it's a blessing or now I can't use any of those features anymore.

I've used the tool 5 times to get back to stock (things I've tried that don't work, never with the build prop except the multi window) and not once has all the apps installed. I.e. wifi calling. You must know your msl. Once you know that you're golden. Restore back to stock. Don't bother with downloading or really setting up anything. Go to phone, dial ##rtn#. Option 2 i believe, put in your msl and bingo. It will restart have you sign in again and all that jazz and whalla. Wifi calling and all the other Sprint bs is back. Have any questions please ask.

No. After RTN reset re-root with Stump.
