I rooted my Galaxy S4 on 4.3 and now when I try to update OTA it gives me an error message. It will go to the updating screen with the open android and then it will say error on it and bring me back to my lock screen.

If you just want to be on the newest stock software without root (it's complicated to get root once you update) then use odin to flash the nc5 tar image. If you don't know what odin is, watch a YouTube video on it, there's tons of tutorials.

Rooting modifies a file(bin/ddexe) which is checked by the official OTA update which causes the failure. But even if the OTA successfully flashed you would lose root.
One option is to use the KeepRoot OTA zip method in the link that joshua shared. There is also an MK2 Pre-Flash System Check included in the thread. Run it and it will tell you if my KeepRoot zip will successfully flash. You can then follow the instructions to get to stock, rooted, NC5.

Why are people wanting to go back to 4.1 from 4.3? I saw a vast improvement in my note's performance and can't see a reason as to what you would be loosing/gaining by traveling back.

OOOO
I see. So accepting a verizon OTA unroots your phone and makes it so you can't put a custom bootloader on it anymore. That sucks. But if you never took the actual OTA then you are good to go with a bootloader is what you are basically sating?

Download this, protect root, download update, restore root. You should be okay.
anyone else having issues updating. It downloads the update and then after reboot it has the android with the gears moving and then it shows a brief android with a red triangle on top of him and then it just reboots back to 4.1.1.

If you want root I would play it safe.
verizon / samsung do follow xda and they have been patching holes within their devices. to be safe you should wait for dev to get this file and give you direction.
a day (maybe two) wait will not hurt you! if you jump, it could be month before you get root back.

Actually I was rooted by root66.zip and everything was fine until I got the update. Now My phone is bootlooping on note 2 logo. would not go to recovery at all. It will go to download mode though. Just warning people who are trying to update and have root66,zip flashed.

Does anyone have the SystemUI.apk by chance? I did the WiFi toggle hack and thought I backed up the file but no dice. I can't upgrade it keeps erroring out on SystemUI.apk.
Has anyone successfully used OTA Root keeper with this new update? I don't want to be the guinea pig! I've never used it for an OTA, just for temp hiding root.

I posted that for kejar31 and imnuts. They asked for the update.zip.
Background: I rooted and unlocked my Verizon Samsung Note II. Then like an true noob did the OTA upgrade. My phone now looks original and is no longer rooted except it still has the SuperSU app. I am trying to return the phone tomorrow under warranty and want to install stock rom or at least delete supersu so it looks stock.
Attempted: using VRALJB_Restore, CI605_I605VRALJB both come up with "complete(write) operation failed" in odin, as well as using CASUAL-Revision465b fails at boot.
how can I tell the firmware/bootloader version on my device?
Any help would be great. Does anyway know if this is even necessary will vrzn even notice when i send it back?
To check your firmware. Go to settings/about phone. You're probably on 4.1.2. Have you tried running the casual root method? Try running that to reunlock your bootloader and reroot. Once you're reunlocked and rooted you can remove supersu and then flash a stock rom from there

I'll try to install the MI1 update again this time via ODIN. How can I flash to ensure it doesn't wipe the user/app storage partition and restore to stock? I don't want to fully unroot since OTA Rootkeep is the only way I can restore root in this 4.3.

I'll try it tonight. Is it OK If I just flash the OTA in Odin? I have a copy saved on my SD card.
Same boat here. Used Odin to go to stock MI1 and even did a factory reset. Update still fails every time.
