Strange problem that started a few days ago ( been using the Z2 for over a month now ), I noticed after a long drive the battery was at 17% even though it had been plugged into the Magnetic Charger I have all the time. The lightening icon was present but no charging was happening.
I thought no more of it until last night when I left ( as always) my phone on in the Sony Dock overnight and realised in the middle of the night it had run out of charge and turned itself off. So the magnetic charging points don't work....odd
So I've resorted to regular usb charging but this only works when the phone is off and not when on
I assume the phone is faulty but wanted to consult you guys incase I'm missing something
The phone is stock ( was O2 branded but flashed a while ago with generic UK firmware )
I've tried a factory reset in the OS menus but has mode no difference
Thanks in advance
Si
have you tried a different charger?
Yeah it looks like me USB charging problem was the cable ( I haven't really used cables since getting the magnetic charging adapters ) but the Magnetic Charging port is defiantly not working, it's registering that it's connected and thinks it's charging but gets a message after a short while saying the charging is too slow and it's discharging faster than it's charging so I assume it's a hardware problem.
I've raised a case in Sonys website and will be sending it back to them for a fix, perhaps they might replace it with a bootloader unlocked version LOL

I have a Xperia U, supplied with EP800 charger, but I charged my phone with an iphone charger, because EP800 had this weird sound while charging that bothered me. It went 3 weeks with no problems until one night, left my phone charging but then on the next morning it was dead: no power, no blinking led, no safe mode, even no flashmode, nothing, just had this orange led while connected to the (iPhone) charger or the PC, but nothing else, obviously no sony logo or anything booting.
Ive searched through forums and concluded that it was HW issue. I sent it into technical service and they gave it back with "no issues detected".
Then arrived home, connected to the (iPhone) charger and nothing, so finally, just to try, I connected the phone to the supplied charger and, guess what, it started charging with no issues...
So, some advice if you are using alternative chargers is to check the charger if you face some of this problems, dunno if it happens or P or Sola.
BTW EP800 charge have 5v 850mA output, might be useful if yours died.
I've never charged my Xperia U with the Sony charger only ever charged it with my HP Touchpad since the day I got it 3-4 months ago, never had a problem.
Seems like The Evil Apple's doing to our beloved androids... ...Just kidding.
Does Apple use high frequency DC chargers?...if yes then maybe it is the reason.I have also used samsung's charger and didn't face any issues.
Hello XDA,
I'm not sure how this happened, but for the past couple of months I haven't been able to charge my phone while it is turned on. It shows the charging animation but the battery still drains, even with all radios off and screen off. I can leave it charging all night and end up with a nearly flat battery. Plugging it in to any wall socket seems to only slow the draining, and plugging it in to a fully powered USB socket (many tried) keeps it at the same battery level, or very slowly charges it if I don't use it. If I turn it off however, I can charge it until full in the normal time with the original AC charger.
Here's the really strange part: I've tried several new chargers of different brands including samsung and it makes no difference. Not only that, but they won't charge it when powered off either making them completely ineffective. It doesn't initialize the charge properly - the screen either shows a battery with a progress circle over and over again without getting to the charging animation, or displays the charging animation over and over and never charges at all, but nevertheless gets hot.
The chargers I've tried are:
Cygnet for samsung phones including SGS-II
Belkin for Samsung phones including SGS-II
Premium blackberry travel charger
Premium 10W 2A Samsung travel adaptor
One charger that did seem to work while plugged in was from a new Sony Xperia Windows phone charger I borrowed once.
I've exchanged at the store 3 times now with the same result! It must be something wrong with the hardware or software...
I've calibrated the battery, I've had a new battery for a couple of months and normally still lasts all day and more on a full charge. It is a 3rd party high quality Anker battery. The problem is the battery is getting a lot more taxed now that I'm using 3G over the portable hotspot, so its not quite lasting the day anymore.
I've had countless custom ROMs on there now, current ROM is CyanogenMod 10.1 stable. Would returning to stock then reinstalling help?
Something that shouldn't matter is I've moved from the UK to Australia. I'm still using the English charger as its the only one that works. And the Xperia charger that seemed to work was Australian too.
Before it got this bad I think it was getting slower and slower to charge. I had to replace the old USB cable that eventually got really loose, then broke and i've tried several new ones with no improvement in charging ability. Is it possible that the contacts inside the micro-USB socket might have been bent from the old cable moving around so much so that only minimal contact is achieved with any other cable? The new connectors do seem to fit perfectly.
In the attached screenshot, you will see on the left the AC charger is plugged in while battery level goes down, then on the far right its plugged in to a computer and is kept level.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

IMO, u should revert back to a stock samsung Firmware (pertained to ur region) and then see if the issue persists or not to rule out any possible 'Software issue' in the first place
Thank you, I will try that and report back the results.
You can try hawkerpauls nuke if flashing stock doesn't work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
today i used my phone underwater for a while. before getting into water i checked all plugs. when i came i tried to charge via wall charger but it failed.
then i saw that charger plug was deformed little but there is not any water.
phone fully discharged after a while and can not be opened.
can i solve my problem via magnetic charger ?
i flashed doom kernel, is it software or hardware problem ?
i need help cause i bought my phone from thailand and it is out of warranty.
thanks
1. Try a different charger (USB)
Does it work? Great. Does it still not work? Now you know it's not the charger that's the problem.
2. Open the right flap (with the SIM and SD port) and see if the water indicator is still white. Is it white or pink?
indicator is still white.
also charger works on other device.
when i connect the charger red light turns on for a while then i saw doom kernel picture, then an empty battery icon appears just for 2 seconds and phone closes again.
At morning İ was able to charge my phone and flashed stock kernel with recovery.
I am getting magnetic charger today.i will change the deformed right flap and never gonna use usb port again
I was having a similar issue so I took it to Bell [carrier in Canada] and they said it was a defect so they gave me a brand new updated Ultra. Maybe try that route. But you will lose all your data
Ok so I started having a weird charging issue with my Xperia Z2, a few months ago when I plugged the phone in to charge and noticed it was constantly showing it was charging and disconnecting non stop (basically this here Xperia Z2 charging disconnect)... first thought was maybe my usb cable (original Sony cable) was buggered but nope, plugged in my Xperia Z5 on the same cable and it charged fine, so I tried my magnetic charger on the Z2 and nothing, no charge at all. Eventually when the phone died completely then I was able to get it to charge but not without some issue, when plugging in it would still do the same thing, charge and disconnect constantly, it would take unplugging the cable and plugging it in again a few times till the phone would eventually charge and even though the charge would show 100%, when I turn the phone on, the battery percentage would vary anywhere between 80%-95% and it would discharge very fast.
I figured it may have been my battery as I have been using the phone with an expanded battery since like 2020 and thought maybe thats it for the battery. Eventually got around to getting a new battery this weekend and the phone still does the same thing but its a bit different now, connecting it with my Sony cable still did the same thing when connected to the wall charger, charge and disconnect constantly. Then I thought maybe it could be a software issue so I connected my phone to my PC using a different usb cable to copy some stuff to my PC before resetting the phone to see if that helps...connected it and it was charging...so I take my Sony cable and connect it to the PC with that and it was charging...unplugged the cable from the PC and plugged it into the wall charger and it was charging and disconnecting again. Plugged it into the PC again and started charging. Tried the other usb cable with the wall charger and it did the same constant charging and disconnecting. I know the wall charger is working fine as I am charging other phones on it too with no problems.
I try a third usb cable on the wall charger, this is a real cheap low amp cable, my Z2 starts charging with it almost normally, painfully slow but it was charging. Now I say almost normally because when it charges to around 90% then it starts doing the constant charge and disconnect again. Also the battery doesn't discharge as fast as it was doing before but still a bit fast.
I want to try flashing a new rom, stock and custom to see if any of those might work.
Would any one have any idea of the issue or experienced anything similar and was able to fix it? Any help any one
In the past I had a similar problem, try to clean the Usb port on phone and try again.
Kindly regards
I remember reading something about the live kernel being involved in charging. It makes sense for this to break charging while completely empty. To charge at full speed you need the kernel to be running, but to get the kernel running you need power, the trickle charge you get without a kernel isn't enough to keep up with the boot process, so you end up in a loop of no power. I have not tested if another kernel fixes it, but it is currently broken on my device.
phone was working fantastic and charged no problem but since the latest update ( may be a coincidences ) when i plug it into my samsung 30w charger it failed to charge and my laptop charger only works on one side and its flashing on and off , but when charge at work via the car charger its fine ? now all these chargers worked till other day when got a update now nothing also can usb-c charg it via laptop itself, has anybody had same fault or is it update problem just before i send it off for a fix , cheers ps also checked port for objects but clear ,
don't think it is the update. Mine sometimes does not wanna charge in the car but at the same time android auto is working over the cable. Never failed on my 65W wall charger that I usually use at home or during my travels.
Did you try rebooting the phone? One day in january my phone wouldn't charge over USB (still detected the charge, showed the charge icon, just not getting juice) but charged well over wireless in the car. I rebooted it and everything was fine again.
