Hi all,
Been trying to figure this one out.
I had wifi working on 4.3 before, but when switched ROMs one day, suddenly the wifi won't work..at all. I've tried switching back to the ROM (Beans Build 25), went to a new ROM (Nebula), and just went to 4.4 stock debloat. Also tried flashing the Mj9 radio and nothing happens. Clearing the cache doesn't do anything either. Bluetooth works fine, no issues there.
Here's my phone stats:
GNote II - Verizon
Stock debloated 4.4 from the development forum
Baseband: I605VRUEMJ9
Kernel: 3.0.31 [email protected] #1
Build: KOT49H.N7105XXUFND3
Hardware Version: I605.07
Can anyone point me in the right direction of getting wifi going again? I'd like to use it, but since I have unlimited data, I'm not worried about going over my "data" plan. hehe.
Well mj9 is an old radio but if you dont want to cha ge thats okay but when I had this issue my only way to fix it was to odin back to stock unrooted reroot and reintall a rom idk what the difference was but it fixed everything

did you ever get this fixed. i have the same issue and tried odin back to a stock rom and still no wifi after rerooting.
Did you try pulling the battery for 30 seconds? Sometimes that is the only thing that solves it for me since reboots don't reboot the wifi hardware.

Flashing a radio has nothing to do with wifi turning on..

If you look at a stock rom that you had wifi working.. Go and grad the kern_sec_info and lkm_sec_info and drop it under system/ directory. SHould kick it back on..

Hi,
NOTE: This is not a question. I just wanted to post this to help anyone in the same position and may reach this page after searching on google.
My phone cannot connect to my WiFi network. For a few days I have been tirelessly searching for a solution to my problem.
I tried factory reset, wiping cache/dalvik, flash stock rom .etc -- nothing worked!
I was flashing the latest roms for my device 4.2 and 4.1 which is jelly bean OS. It still did not work.
But then I tried flashing the previous generation operating system. I flashed 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it worked. I can use wifi again!
So, I hope this helps someone out there
Give it a try
You went back to jellybean afterwards though? We dont want people going back to ics when they're not protected from sds

Yes I just flashed a jellybean rom afterwards.
In the end it turned out that the issue was with foxhound rom, so I just use cyanogenmod instead now
Cool thanks for clarifying.

I'm running stock, rooted and debloated ICS 4.0.4. Everything went fine for a few days after I installed through ODIN, but now when I try to send a text message it more often than not reboots (screen will go black and the phone will do short little vibrations until I hold the power button down for a few seconds). The rebooting has also happened a couple of times when I've been using the mobile data. I've wiped cache/dalvik to ensure that the problem did not come from there, and I wiped EVERYTHING before I installed stock ICS. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Have you checked the thread for that ROM, see if its a common problem?
Who is your carrier? Maybe modem related?
Maybe try reflashing it?

Thanks for the reply!
It's the stock ICS 4.0.4 firmware. Baseband: I717UCMD3. Kernel version: 3.0.8. Build number: IMM76D.UCLF6.
Flashed it through ODIN and rooted shortly thereafter. I've been looking through the forums trying to find someone having the same problem and I haven't. My GNote is AT&T branded, unlocked though. I'm using a NET10 SIM (NET10 runs on the AT&T network I believe). I've tried reflashing, wiping, whatever you can think of and still getting reboots/the vibration issue.

I'm confused. U have 2 modems listed here UCLF6 and UCMD3.
The MD3 is the newer modem since the official JB update. Check thread and make sure the one you need.

If you didn't flash an alternate modem, then you should be good. Maybe double check thread for modem supplied. You can just reflash modem or even try another.
Surprised nobody else has chimed in here. Is your APN OK?

I flashed the Blackstar BlackJelly ROM w/whatever modem that one comes with, along with the Phase kernel so I can OC it a little. No restarts as of yet...we'll see what happens.

Both Black star and Padawan are very stable even with stock kernel. Not sure how Phase will last with BS. Trickster Mod with either will allow you that little bit OC/UV without needing alternate kernel.
Good luck.

on another site (rootgalaxynote I think) the author recommended the Phase kernel with the Blackstar BlackJelly ROM. I'll give it a shot and if it's not stable I'll revert back to the stock kernel.
You can have different builds and basebands. That doesn't matter.
These phones sometimes get some lint in the power button and that causes reboots. Or the button isn't sitting in its opening exactly right, and a slight touch will reboot the phone.

I used to have the same problem, then I flashed CyanogenMod, and then used Greenify, SD-Booster, and Autokiller (apps) to hibernate my running apps, increase my cache size, and shut down all the background tasks. Suddenly, I had no more reboots or other issues. My phone is also super smooth, super fast, and the battery life is eternal.
My question to you guys is will reverting back to full stock fix my data issues.
When I say stock I mean stock hboot, recovery, rom, locked bootloader and not rooted.
Ever sense I've installed custom roms data has been crap which I've had a custom rom for about year maybe.

The only way to find out is try it. You may be in a poor signal area. The latest radio has helped me, however it seems that when the weather turns cold the signal is better in my area.
What is the latest Verison.

I was running beans build 22 on 4.1.2 vramc3. I updated with odin a few months back and flashed nebula rom..everything was working perfectly. I then wanted to try Alliance rom and accidently flashed the old beans build 22 i was running before. Its running fine but my question is on settings it says Android 4.1.2 baseband is MJ9 and build is vramc3, can I just reflash in recovery or do I have to do the whole odin process over again??
Any help appreciated. ..

Your fine. Your baseband is the modem your on
So don't sweat. You are able to flash back and forth, from 4.3 to 4.1.2 or other way around, with no issues
And sorry yes you can just reflash in recovery with no issues

No worries man.. and no reason to explain I flash other roms too.. I don't always stay on my own lol
Okay so I recently decided to to upgrade to the 4.4.2 KitKat root through this video http://youtu.be/AIRoQKTLeJQ and I was running the stock deodexed rom that was provided. I then looked up some compatible custom roms and came across several that were supposedly compatible with NC5 and Safestrap 3.72. However, on most of them (Echoe Rom, Bajarom, Phoenix Rom, etc) the wifi does not turn on even after rebooting. Bajarom it would work (it would take FOREVER to turn on though) until after I restored my nandroid backup (just data) from before I upgraded to 4.4.2 via the video. Then the wifi function would stop... Echoe Rom and Phoenix Rom both had a Galaxy S5 port that had S5 apps, themes, etc. These ones wouldn't have any network access at all. WiFi and 4G would not work. I would still have a signal so I could send texts and call people. I tried flashing modules and modems and NC5 fixes but nothing would work... Does anybody know how to fix this WiFi problem?? Or does anybody know of a good, clean, custom TouchWiz rom that has working wifi? This would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Did you flash modules after rom? That's the only way your wifi is going to work.
Check out giglies NC2 wifi fix and see if that helps: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23487008491963696
Yea I tried the modules and they didn't help. But thanks! I'll give this a shot.

Is it safe to flash a custom rom like CM11? I upgraded my phone to 4.4.2 NC5 through ODIN, then did the Towel root and flashed Safestrap.
I dont think so.

Yea. I was going to reflash it to get back the stock kernel. I just got the phone so I didnt have much info to lose and I was in a rush and could't find a solution in the kernel thread. I see people asking about losing wifi, but no one posts any solutions.

So the wifi fix worked but I'm still not getting a 4G signal and I can't make calls or send texts on Echoe Rom or Phoenix Rom. It says there's modules in that wifi fix and I even flashed separate modules but it didn't change anything. Do you know what I can do to fix this?

Sounds like maybe some issues with your APN settings.
Check this thread and see if they match what you have: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734775

There's no option to change APN setting in those roms... I honestly don't even know where to begin trying to fix this anymore...
Modules Needed??
Does anybody have any idea how I would flash Echoe Rom with the S5 port to my phone with Safestrap 3.72. I have the NC5 bootloader and I'm wondering what modules I need to flash in order to have working wifi AND data/calling/service. When I flash Echoe Rom my baseband version changes to NC2... Does this change the modules I need to flash? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

You could try flashing that wifi fix, which will set your modem as NC2. Then flash the NC5 modem and you'll have the NC5 baseband and working wifi (this is what I do for Hyperdrive).

Hyperdrive is excellent. I Love it. The link and everything you will need to know can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301724 I have tried other ROM's also, Baja, GruesomeWolf, just to name a couple and I have found Hyperdrive to be the most stable.
