Hello all, having alot of trouble installing a custom rom. I've tried many different roms like beanstalk, cm, liquid smooth rom but to no avail, i still get the same error this is a i717 status 7 installation aborted. Yes i've read other posts i've searched for and have read the instructions but for the life of me keep getting the same error. I have also flashed different clockwork mods and twrp versions, yes it is rooted. I have a att sgh-i717 running android 2.3.6, baseband i717ucla1, kernel: 2.6.35.11, build: gingerbread.ucla1. It is unlocked to tmobile and would like to install custom rom cause this stock rom is soo boring :crying: If it has been answered please mods delete and will keep searching, Thanks.

since I had to go back to cwm-based recovery v5.5.04 in order to restore, then the newest version of cwm is v6.0.1.4. When I use odin it says I have 9 counts, because of the different versions of cwm and twrp ive flashed. Ive google cwm and this cwm-i717-6.0.1.4-20121002-signed I downloaded, it is the one on this forum. I look for it on odin but it doesn't show the file do I have to change the extension cause it only reads tar, md5 and smd or I just install through cwm

Which method did you use to root? Did you install cwm enabled kernel? If you used entropy's kernel + rooted system package the kernel is stock with 3e recovery.
yes
used rooted kernal via odin.

cm7 from nighties. is there only certain roms i can install.
Did you install ROMManager and install CWM from there? If that's the case it won't work. I did the same thing and it kept on getting the same error you have. Start the root process from step 1 and don't install RomManager. Flash CM7 by booting into CWM using the 3 button boot.
i now have root but with stock recovery 3e. how do i get cwm recovery now. thanks. btw, what is the three button boot.
You have to flash your recovery image using this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
Hold down Volume Up/Down and power until the Galaxy S2 screen comes up, then let go of power to get into CWM (CWM = ClockworksMod)
Toggling in the cwm menu worked for me.

If you used ROM Manager - don't.
Flash a kernel that has CWM (either codeworkx's or mine) using Odin/Heimdall, then enter recovery using the three-finger salute.
If you use ROM Manager's recovery, nothing will work right.
cwm
i have cwm installed via kernel. i do the 3 button boot and get to cwm. i also toggled signature to disabled. when i try to install cm7 over stock rooted image it aborts. doesn't say signature verification failed, something about buildprop. thanks.

Most likely you're trying to flash an I9100 build and not the correct CM7 build for our device (I777).
correct
i believe you are correct. can not find the full cm7att zip. only the update and when installed, it locks at the samsung s II logo. then have to restore my stock backup. thanks.
CM7.1 just got released into stable. http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2att
That's for the ATT version. You can flash that.
tried that
that is the one that locks it up, it is an update, i need full. thanks.
I am also having the same exact issue with the verification.

Official release zips are marked as "update" even when they're a full release, mainly because they're no-wipe I think.
The build system names it "update" even when it's full. The 100 MB file size should be a hint that it's not just an update...
I also had this problem, but I used Rom Manager to flash cwm, which I shouldn't have. Flashed back to stock, re-rooted, reflashed CWM the correct way and have no problems.
OK, I've looked just about EVERYWHERE and I can't find an answer to this. I even posted on Koushid Dutta's Google+ page but I haven't gotten a response.
I've got an SGS2 on Bell Canada. I'm running Resurrection Remix ICS Rom 9.7. I cannot for the life of me get CWM TOUCH recovery to install on the device. It always defaults to either the stock recovery or the basic CWM recovery. I've tried installing it through ROM Manager. The app says that CWM Touch Recovery has "been successfully flashed." But, alas, when I reboot into recovery, it's either the stock recovery or the basic CWMR. So, then I searched for and found a flashable zip file for CWM Touch Recovery to be flashed in CWM. It flashed beautifully with no errors. But, again, the Touch Recovery was nowhere to be found and it was just the plain old CWM non-touch recovery.
Please help! Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Just try the new alpha Siyah kernel, touch recovery included! Done!!

Don't use Rom Manager to flash recovery if you've installed the touch recovery. It will just soft brick your phone and send you into infinte bootloop. Once you flash just use Chainfire's CWM. It should work fine
If you have a question why would you post it in the development section? It doesn't make sense when there is a dedicated Q&A sectio
Yesterday I flashed my SGS2 to CM9 and MIUI v4. After flasinhg this ROMs I flashed touch recovery from CWM Recovery Mod (install zip from sdcard).
Install this zip from recovery mode.

It's a question about development and use of CWMR. It's not a basic question like, "how do I darken my screen?"

Again, it doesn't work. I just flashed the touch recovery zip file from within CWM, rebooted, and then booted into recovery using Chainfire, which is what I usually do anyway. I've still got CWM-Based recovery v5.0.2.7. :-(

I don't think that kernel supports ICS-based ROMs yet, at least from my searching. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838

TBH I'm a bit surprised that this thread is still here. And while I understand your frustration, there simply one thing you've misunderstood.
UNLIKE your Xoom / GNexus...
The kernel and recovery are 'linked' in SGS2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246131
So, unless the kernel you are trying to use actually includes a touch based recovery - and it seems that the latest SiyahKernel which does support the ICS LPQ build now - you can't flash a separate recovery alone.
So you are...um... were, out of luck I guess (assuming that the new SiyahKernel does included a touch based CWM).
Mods, please remove this thread out of the dev section please. Thank you.
Thanks folks for all your help. The Siyah kernel alpha works and has created the Touch recovery. It appears to be a modified version of the touch with arrows and buttons on the bottom, but it's still better than using the rocker. THANKS!

The file contains a directory called META-INF and recovery.img...
That's for recovery, the Mets-inf folder is the script to write the recovery.img
That's weird, You may try downloading the zip fresh, or if ask else fails grab the Odin flashable tar and use that.

Yup.
Given you download the correct file for this device.
If that still fails, which I dunno why I would, it should go without saying The Odin file, will need Odin a pc and a Usb cable

That has the Odin flashable cwm touch file... that version is outdated so after flashing that, you'll have cwm, but flashing a newer Rom zip might end up with a "status 7 error" in recovery.
At that point I'd personally use goo manager go grab the latest version of a cwm zip, that'll be usable in the version of cwm I posted above.

Are you saying I should _not_ use TWRP to put CWM on?
No, it should work, just saying if it still gives you the proverbial finger, Odin is your friend and that version is just the latest with an Odin .tar
So to have your cake (cwm) and eat it too (flash new roms) you'll need to update your recovery from that older version of cwm
So you said you get an error when you tap to install? You should be flashing that zip in recovery like you would a ROM or mod. Is that what you did? After it installs just reboot recovery within twrp and bam!!! You'll have cwm.
Thanks so much for your help...my problem remains, so I may go back to a stock ROM for T-Mobile, since that is my provider, and see if I can solve it... Before I installed CWM, I could sms/mms to my e-mail address...I can't any longer.

Iv Setup recovery through ROM Manager to Clockworkmod 6.0.3.6 and I no longer get an error when opening ROM Manager but still get an error when opening the CWM App but if it is now redundant I wont worry.
Just backed up backed up current ROM (stock OS rooted) to check all is ok and seems to have saved it fine so its working as it should.
Just downloading a custom ROM on laptop now so want to get it right before i flash it

Download CM again or simply from another source and before you transfer the .zip file to your phone, compare the MD5 of both files to check if the download was successful.
