[Q] Droid Razr Bootloop - Motorola Droid RAZR

Now, I know there are several threads already about bootlooping, but I could not find one with my particular situation. I received my Droid Razr from my uncle, and after doing a full factory reset, I found out it was still rooted from this article: Motorola Included a Root Check in the RAZR, RAZR MAXX, and DROID4 With Ice Cream Sandwich. He did not make a backup ROM. I really don't have a clue what to do in this situation, so I just thought to myself, "If I restore it to a previous version of Android ROM from the internet, I can just update to a newer one." (I forgot to mention that the only reason I wanted to unroot was so I could get the latest update.) Well, I tried to do it using this:How to Unroot/Unbrick Your Rooted Droid Razr Back to Android 2.3.6![6.12.173] (Just search for it because I can't post links.) But now it just loads up the Motorola logo and the dual core text, and then goes black. The screen is still on, but nothing happens. I am able to get into fastboot and recovery, and have tried a factory reset, but nothing works, and I am afraid to try anything else in case I ruin it even more. Can anyone help?

You can't downgrade. That is a limitation with RAZR.
If you have XT912, use Matt's utility to recover and flash stock 4.1.2.Find it in the dev section.
For XT910, use RSDLite.
From the E

(Thank you! But I might need some help on doing that. Is there a guide I can follow?) Oh never mind. The page is self-explanatory. If I need any help I can ask. Also, this is the right Matt's utility, correct?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192467 (One more edit: Will it be unrooted after this?)

Question before I root....coming from the Samsung Vibrant

I just got the razr coming from Samsung's galaxy S (t-mobile vibrant) which I had rooted, OC'd, and running ICS on. I'm not new to rooting/flashing kernels/roms, etc. but I am new to the razr.
I am just wondering if there are any safety features built into this system in case something happens or it gets bricked or something? On the vibrant I could ALWAYS get into download mode and use a computer program called ODIN to flash my phone back to stock. It was nearly impossible to brick it... is there anything like this with the Razr yet?
From what I understand so far, I will root it, install safestrap (i.e. CWM) and then I can flash any of the Razr roms I want... Correct? Thanks guys!

you need to be more informed before flashing any of the razr rom's
not every custom rom will provide both, CDMA and GSM... so you need to differ witch one's will work with your device.
way to install is right. rooting, safestrapping, flashing... but keep an eye on the rom preferences
downlode mode... yeah, i think so... bricked my razr with flash failre, boot was unavailable... but could enter fastboot mode (POWER + VOLDOWN) to flash some new rom via rsd lite or fla**** by eternityproject
ok thanks... well, I have the Razr with Verizon in the US. But when I was talking to the verizon rep, he said that it uses both CDMA and GSM... (because I had asked him why they had switched over to SIM cards). He said that they are using the GSM network for data only because it works much faster/smoother for data. But it was my understanding that they are still using CDMA for voice. Am I wrong?
Do you have any threads you could post to explain the process to a newb? =) I have read a lot of the stickies... thanks for the response!

[Q] "RAZR XT910 Developer Edition" What is This???

Ok so looking to root.
System Ver. 6.12.173.XY912.Verizon.en.us
2.36
Build6.5.1-167_DHD-14_M2-5
I've been searching everywhere for sbf. I'm assuming there is not one yet.
However I did find this...
RAZR XT910 Developer Edition
Build 01.6.5.1-167_SPU-15-M2-1-DE
If this will help anyone.
Best root program?
Is it possible to Unroot?
fastboot
To my understanding they have found the fastboot files which replaced the .sbf files. there is a great program in the development section that can root, unroot and restore alone with a couple of other features.

Well I can't find anything that looks legit for root and set back to factory? I have been reading for hours all over the place. There are like 10 different ways to root some work some not but have yet to see a file for "SBF" or something that allows you to unroot if you mess up and need to ship in. I have rooted Droid X, DX2. I'm rooting buddies phone so if he F***s it up I can get it back to where it is now. He just did factory settings.
Anyone any info?
The developer edition is just this: http://developer.motorola.com/produ...ck&utm_source=motorolablog&utm_medium=mdotcom
Old news, same device but (supposedly) with an unlocked bootloader, won't help in unlocking ours, and the few people who've bought one currently can't unlock them anyway. Yay Motorola.
As for rooting, you will need to look up a recent exploit called Motofail.
Motorola does not use SBF files anymore, instead they release full ROMs that are flashed through the Fastboot utility included in the Android SDK/using Motorola's RSD Lite utility. Find out everything you need to know about downloading and using Fastboot files in both the stock ROMs thread in the dev section, and in Mattlgroff's RAZR utility thread.

[Q] Deleted important system files on Droid RAZR

Ok I see that there are a couple of similar threads to this and I apologize in advance but I'm not sure exactly how to correctly interpret some of the answers on those threads...so I'm gonna start my own and see who can help lol. Once again I'm sorry if this new thread is considered obsolete by some or all.
I have a Motorola droid razr. Not the maxx just the standard razr. When I got my phone I started looking into rooting it after seeing one of my friends with a rooted thunderbolt. I successfully rooted my razr after doing a lot of research. I installed Titanium (not pro) and undelete. I'm fairly certain that I made a backup of everything on my phone shortly after installing Titanium Backup. Well through the course of tinkering around with my phone a bit I deleted certain files here and there that I considered useless or annoying to me that they were on my phone in the first place. Well when the upgrade to jellybean came out I tried to do a software update. It finishes, reboots my phone, then says the update was unsuccessful.
After some research I have realized that I probably deleted something that was important (lol yeah I'm an idiot) and so it wont let me update the software because of that. I realize that I could use titanium to restore those files but I have NO idea what files I deleted that were important. And I'm not all that comfortable with TB to just mess with it freely. TB has been something that I have used very little because I know I could probably cause some serious damage to my phone with it haha. I haven't done a factory reset because I know already that it wouldn't bring those files back.
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. I'm not a very technical person so I probably shouldn't have rooted in the first place but I tried my hardest to do the research first. Thanks in advance for the help everyone

im not sure about this particular phone but search for the SBF file for your phone model and how to use RSDLite. this is how to restore Motorola phones.

It's never a good idea to do an OTA update over a rooted phone.
You should just download a rooted stock ROM from the dev forum (a 4.1 ROM) and flash it via your recovery (flash the zip file) or another custom ROM, they have some good ones!
OR I would just flash stock THEN do the OTA update, because whatever rooting method you used (I don't have that phone so I'm not sure) probably replaced your kernel with an insecure one or your system.img so you're failing the OTA update.

this is a good point. i would only do the SBF if you can't get into custom recovery.

just try to flash a stock ROM using RSD, and then take the OTA update.

Ok I'm not gonna lie that sounds like a different language to me haha. I know I probably shouldn't have done all this without really knowing exactly what i was doing but I'm sure im not the first lol. What exactly is RSD and when I flash the razr stock ROM will it erase anything I already have save on my phone? Sorry I'm not the most intelligent when it comes to stuff like this haha

Is this a good source and video that might explain this to me a little better? I havent posted 10 times so i cant use the link but its a video on youtube called How to use fastboot files to return Droid Razr back to Android 2.3.5! It's the first vid that comes up. has about 9,300 views and was posted 7 months ago. I think my RAZR was on ice cream sandwich (not gingerbread) but it should be the same i guess? Thanks in advance everyone
The reason I suggest just flashing a custom ROM thru your recovery is once you RSD stock then do the OTA you're just going to want to root again and maybe flash a better custom ROM.
Just flash a CM10 ROM from the dev forum and see how you like it, it's jellybean with tons more options that the stock ROM.

The main issue i'm having is that after i rooted my phone flashing custom roms was pretty much the only aspect i didnt get into, so i'm not comfortable in the least with doing it. So just flashing a new rom might be a little strange for me. If i flash the stock rom will i lose everything i have? Like all my apps and pictures and info? And will it unroot my phone?? And if that video i posted above will work should i just try it that way?
I'm sorry to keep posting but I'm just trying to get some specific answers and I feel like if my thread falls too far down it will be forgotten lol. But that video title that I posted...does anyone know if that could be a viable solution? And if it isn't could someone explain. To me how to flash the stock rom so i can upgrade to ics. I don't think the razr has jellybean yet if I'm not mistaken
It sounds like you might be missing some of the stock apps. I had a similar problem while following the same upgrade path as you. I have a Verizon XT912 (standard RAZR) I'm lookin for a link to send you that helped with the issue...but basically there are several apps that would seem non-essential like Slacker radio or NFL Mobile that seem to have caused people trouble. If your update is failing at 30% or somewhere in the middle, this might be the problem. If this sounds like it could be it, Ill try and find the post that helped me find what I was missing.
watch your phone during the update, make sure its not actually cancelling and booting normally because of this error.
Do you know what version you were on before things happened? GB or ICS? You always use this utility just to start over and get back to stock. You could do like people are saying and get the files but this is easier. There is a version for either GB or ICS. Just need to get into AP Fast Boot mode and follow the directions. Also assume this is the Cdma phone? Here is something similar.
I would just start all over and flash.Make sure if you can that your phone is charged before starting.

I'm on gingerbread 2.3.6. So i can just go to the bootloader menu and use AP fast boot to do what? I'm a little confused lol sorry
So does anyone have any explanation? The only reason i'm so desperate is because i'm planning on potentially selling my razr for the note 2 and i cant do that if its unable to perform this update/missing apps/etc.. lol. please help

[Q] Bricked Verizon RAZR (Boot Loop)

Hi all,
I've bricked my unrooted XT912 (Verizon) and am unsure if the problem is software or hardware related. The jellybean OTA pushed to my phone but I have yet to install it. I've been reading this board and searching via google for answers with no luck.
A couple weeks ago my phone went into a boot loop (froze at the "Droid" screen during boot). I was able to do a flash recovery with RSD Lite which corrected the problem. However, the problem kept re-occurring. For a while I was able to recover via flash recovery. However, today the phone went into another boot loop (again froze at the "Droid" screen) and I have been unable to fix the issue. I have used both the Matt Groff RAZR Utility and RSD Lite with no success. Both tools successfully flash, however, upon restart, I'm again stuck on the "Droid" screen. Any thoughts?
I'm due for a subsidized phone in a few weeks and would prefer to hold off on buying a full priced new phone unless absolutely necessary. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think http://www.droidrzr.com is the right place for you, becouse most XT912 users are there. And i think you can use matts new utility for unbricking yours. There are also Fastboot files out already for XT912 on http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ so you can also flash them using RSD lite.

Thanks for the reply! Am I right to understand that I should flash the Jellybean XT912 files and/or use Matt's new utility even though I never installed the OTA update? The update did push to my phone and I hadn't installed prior to the boot loop.
I'll try posting on droidrzr as well per your suggestion.
Ohh i missunderstood you... If you are still On ICS it is same. Matt has made several utilities there is one for ICS and one for JB. But i still think that http://www.droidrzr.comis the right place for you to get involved into, just from what i have seen there are a lot of x912 users in that forum, maybe more active aswell.

[Q] need to flash 4.4.2 on Razr Maxx HD - HOW??

Please no one blast me for asking this question. I have spent HOURS searching for definitive answers, and I can't find what I need to know. I want to be very sure before I make any changes - I do not want to guess. I haven't bricked a phone yet, and don't want to start now. And I very much do not want to lose root.
I have a Droid Razr Maxx HD from VZW. It's currently running Android version 4.1.2 (System version 9.18.94.XT926.Verizon.en.US). It is rooted, but the bootloader is not unlocked, and I prefer not to unlock it. I *MUST* have root access. The phone is running painfully slow and I've already cleared the cache partition, but it's not enough. I want to do a hard reset after upgrading the firmware, then re-root.
My understanding, after about 6 hours of research, is that TowelRoot can root any version of Android released before June 3, 2014. I think that means 4.4.2. I found a place to download the stock version of 4.4.2 for XT926 (at least it's called that - it's not on the VZW site), but I can't verify the release date. I think it was before June 3 because I found discussions of 4.4.2 on the VZW site from last May.
1) Can someone verify that 4.4.2 is rootable with TowelRoot (which I've already downloaded).
2) Is there a place on the VZW site to download previous firmware versions so I can be certain I've got stock? Google publishes theirs (I also have a Nexus 10), but I don't see a page like this on the VZW site.
Next is how to flash... I have flashed my phone before using no additional software, but I can't recall the exact procedure and I don't want to screw it up. As I recall, I just had to put the zip file in the root of an external SD Card, then run native fastboot. But everything I've found googling says I have to edit an xml file, and run a Windows program called RSD Lite. Why?? I've found that the more 3rd party software in the mix, the greater the chance for disaster. Why can't I just use the native facility? I can't find the instructions I used previously.
I truly have tried to find the answers to these questions on my own, and I cannot. Could one of the very knowledgable people on this forum give me some definitive answers? I would be very grateful.
I figured out how to select a firmware update on my SD card via Recovery mode. I selected the zip file, and I see the message "Install /sdcard ...", but it doesn't look like anything is happening.
Not one response? No help from anyone?
This is a pretty useless forum. I would like to delete my original message since not one sole here can deign to even respond, but I can't do it.
Thanks for nothing.

I tried very hard to find the right place to post my question. I couldn't find a forum for my exact model, and this seemed the closest. I thought I saw other posts about the Razr Maxx HD here. Do you have a link for the correct forum? I also spent a lot of time looking for the answer on my own before posting so no one could say I hadn't tried. But though I tried to be a good forum citizen, no one helped.
In any case, it doesn't matter. I took a chance, and luckily I guessed right. I'm now running KitKat and I am rooted. My phone had gotten very slow, so I also emptied the cache partition, then did a hard reset of my phone. I'm now reinstalling apps (not all of them).
I would move your attention to this area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-hd. Don't criticize forum members and call the site useless. Sometimes you have to wait for help, especially when it's free.

I was hoping you would get an answer as well, since I am in the exact same boat with my Razr Maxx HD. It's on 4.1.2, system version 9.18.94, it's rooted and bootloader is still locked. I have deleted some stock Verizon apps like Slacker and a few others. At the time I wasn't aware there was ramifications for doing so. I would like to try KK, but have the option to go back to JB if I like, or even run a custom Rom. I found this guide by bweN diorD to do just that, trouble is I am not that saavy and am a little in the dark when it comes to this stuff. I need step by step instructions explaining everything along the way. I have never flashed anything. All I've ever done is jailbroken IOS devices and rooted droids. So if you have a step by step for me I'm all ears. I don't even need to be rooted at the moment on KK.
Yeah never mind I got it. Booted into fastboot, connected to laptop and ran WindowsutilityNoDataWipe.bat from bweN diorD's 1.41 file.
