So i did Techguy2002's Rom and downgraded from NC5 OTA to MK2 and back to Rooted NC5. Everything except Nearby Devices seems to work. Anyone run into this or have any idea?? Any help is great appreciated. Im new here and been learning quite a bit about rooting but have no idea how to trouble shoot this. Thanks in advance!

Hey folks I hate to make a new thread if there is already a post on this, but I couldn't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 currently running 4.3 MJ7, rooted and using the wifi tether hack. I'm looking to upgrade to MK2, but I can't seem to find a guide that goes over how to do so without losing root and my wifi tether hack. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

And this for the tether mod..
My only issue is that when I take the OTA I get an error message. I've read this is due to the tether hack, and I need to uninstall that for it to work. Just trying to figure out how to do so.

Forget about the OTA.
Do it this way:

What is the significant difference between MJ7 and MK2? I am on MJ7 and seem to have everything that I want (HyperDrive 15, tether, root).
What's the compelling reason to go up to MK2?

stepping stone to go to kitkat as you can retain mk2 bootloader while going to NC5 thru the upgrade/downgrade methods.
I just did this today and now running kitkat Bajarom V2.0
took a little while to do it but had no issues whatsoever

not difficult but you have to be careful thats why I recommend a checklist so you don;t forget what files to have on your phone, what files you need on your computer and the order of the steps to be done.
there are several youtube videos that discuss various steps that would need to be done. If you have rooted and installed roms before, if you have used odin before, the process can be done successfully
btw, baja is very nice and devs are updating theme packages and other things right now. Can't wait to do some flashing on it.
Oh, I have most of the files set on my computer and phone to make the jump. I think. I just need clarification. What does downgrading back to MK2 achieve? Was that necessary in your move to Baja? I see these things like HLOS modems and non-HLOS modem and I'm like wait what is that and do I need to be concerned by it?
I'm one of those guys who has some irrational fear of messing up, hence why I need a list of exact steps to do. I don't really like making assumptions if I could help it. :c

You don't have to bother with downgrade...Odin full wipe mk2 tar then follow surge's steps to upgrade to nc5...you can load baja over the rooted deox rom
sent by baja kitkat S4
Oooh. Okay. I'll look into this later tonight. Hopefully I'll get it done soon. By the way, I noticed in Surge's thread that there's an NC5 patch file in the deodexed feature list. What is that and when would I flash that part?
I've been trying for the last 2 days to update from NAB to NC5. But I can't seem to get it. Its already rooted and I really want to try Sacs Custom v4, but I can't seem to figure a way to do it or thread that helps me fix the problem I'm having. If you need more info I'll be more than happy to give it, I just don't really know what to tell you guys to get this started. Can someone please help me?

You sir, are a here ?? thank you so much
Hey guys thanks so much for the responses and all the help I have received in the past few days with this god dang phone. I have two more things I would like to get working and then I am done messing with this phone. I would like to 1. root it which has now been extremely hard with the update I just did for my vzw s4. and I would love it if any one could baby step me through it ... I know odin works really well on phone so I would prefer that 2. I can connect to wifi every where except at my school which runs 802.1x EAP and I would like to connect to that. I have friends with the same phone and carrier and they can connect fine. I also have used the lg volt and a samsung galaxy exhibit which worked marvels with internet and proxies and such but this s4 is just killing me. Would a custom rom or flashing a previous version of the os work to solve this problem?? Thanks again for all your help.

Just go to the thread in the general section about rooting NK1, and use the kernel flashing method listed there. Happy Rooting!
And about 802.11x, its a pain I know, just resetting to stock fixed it for me. (which should be done before rooting your device!!!!)

Will CF auto root would it be able to root android 5.0.1. I really do not care about the Samsung knots being trigger my phone is already out of warranty. I just have insurance if it gets stolen or I drop it in water. Or should I wait until they find a root method without triggering Samsung knots. I read about triangle away but like I said at this point I can careless if it gets trigger. What are you guys opinion?

As of now, if you took the OTA and did not preserve root, there is no root method available. Also, "Knox"
..

No root for OC1 unless you took the neutered tar through odin or used a ROM from @gigilie or another dev .

I was in the bootloader OC1. I was one of the guys that help Muniz achieve root for everyone. We were having Wifi issues but i told him i would upgrade my bootloader to help if it would fix it. but it was the kernel. So i needed to used samsung kies to get my back up. So thats how I lost root. But thank you for your help.

Fyi...... @dgutierrez04 was the guy that pulled the OC1 ota update for me when no one else could due to the two part 5.0 update. He also took one for the team during testing of the OC1, Stock Rooted ROM so many of you enjoy today by updating his bootloader to OC1.
I assume he has no backup phone.
That said, it seems a lot of people have to use Kies... as Odin reports fails...
I did not root my I545 verizon so now I have lollipop oc1. My question is should I not take the next upgrade for lollipop or at this point does it make a difference as far as getting root?
Thoughts are more than welcome

No I do not have a backup phone. But hey that's how we learn. I will do it again for the community if I can capture again the update and test it for everyone I would. I am a te player. I wish I could built roms but I'm not that smart lol.

I suggest is to wait and hope they can find a root method and try to avoid future updates as off right now. That's what I would suggest you doing as for me I will be doing the same.

Hi! Haven't been around in some time and am looking for a little guidance. I am rooted 4.4.2 running AllianceROM_G900TUVU1BNG3 and am looking to seriously update haha. I am thinking about maybe trying Magisk so I can play Pokemon Go (don't judge heh) and would appreciate any help getting me going. It's been awhile but I am comfortable with flashing recoveries and so forth. Not sure if there are steps I need to take ect. since I am so far behind on updates. Thanks for any info you can throw my way :good::good:

Okay well first before you install magisk you'll have to install a new rom because magisk does not support the Android version you're on. If you want, I can link you to some nice ROMs that are stable and provide good battery life. Then after that we can go from there.
Ok, sounds good. I was under the impression that I had to go back to stock unrooted to use magisk. Should I update my TWRP?
