Headphones - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
I have a new problem and im not sure how i can solve it
I managed to get s4 headphones with anti tangle cable but after 2 week , left channel (the one without control buttons) doesn't work anymore .. i thought that maybe it was my fault but also left channel for original headphones doesnt work (neither if i plug it i to pc) so i bought s3 headphones and again left channel screwed up so im wondering:
1)why only left channel doesn't work ?
2) could be the fact that im using viper4android? (I was set for equal distibution on both channels)
3)what headphones should i buy now? ...i like s4 one's

Have you tested without viper installed??? Good start there mate. Do you have it on v loud??

Its useless cuz headphones doesnt work even on pc and laptop . Also loud volume was disabled and output gain -1.9db

Buy some really cheap ones or lend some from a friend you don't like much and test see if they break and how long it take's.

I have a old pair ... almost as old as my s2 and they are working fine .. expect sound quality which is good but almost no bass and the fact that they are not in ear

If the old ones work then the headphones ARE faulty so buy whatever you feel is best and take care of them. Cables inside has been broken maybe.

Re: Help

Pls guys... dont tell me none of you had this issue.....
help me out here ... i really need it .....
Hey,
I got mine sorted.
I bought something very similar to THIS
My one is slightly different. Only has one button on, which isn't going to get used anyway!
The above one would do the same I'd imagine.
Cost me £11 from Best Buys
Works an absolute treat. And sounds much better than my old iPhone.
Just need to run another cable from the adapter to the phone, and away you go!
Hmmm... that is a good solution for this....
But then again i think there was an HTC phone review where i saw this option pop out when u connect anything into the jack... lets see...
As for that .... ya that is a good option...
But lets hope someone comes along for another solution...
Ill have to check if something similar to that Jack is sold here in my country in India...
Thanks for the heads up man... appreciate it
wanted to post this as a seperate thread..also posted it as an answer to another nrelated thread where the question came up..
these are stereo headsets for music and calls...the ear bud options might work for you guys while driving:
I own 3 bluetooth headsets (yes i own every tecky geeky corny cool gadget I can find...usually I just test them out and sell them for a profit on ebay ).
I bought these Samsung SBH600 on woot during a one day sale for 55 bucks (shipping included) and you cant find them anywhere now (sorry...if you wait anywhere between a couple of months to a year woot may have them again..its one sale a day there). They are 30% passive noise canceling and really good quality. Can be used both for music and calls:
http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=14521
These also have a wire for a 3.5 mm jack so you can use for music only if you ran out of juice.
This is the amazon listing in case it ever become available again:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CX03PA/sr=8-2-fkmr1/qid=1286355036/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1286355036&sr=8-2-fkmr1&seller=
For comparable ones you can find the previous model but i cant vouch for those:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SBH500-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headset/dp/B0016I6GUS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=mobile&qid=1294670770&sr=8-1
You will have to check reviews and I do not think those have any noise cancelling properties. I think they also lack the 3.5 mm jack.
i also have the moto rockr headset:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LXR0BW/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=1278548962&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001EKQQ5S&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0D7YT72QD8CD9NMWYTKH
This one is more of a startreky kind of look like a backwords visor. They have earbuds and it hangs behind your head. Good quality and has volume control and answering calls etc. Does not have 3.5 mm jack so bluetooth is your only option or noise cancelling.
Finally I have the very first version of these sony bluetooth headsets which also have a little led display on them. They can connect to more than one device so you could have them connected to your ipod and phone together for example (I think the samsung has that too but I havent tested it out).
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Ericsson-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B003DQ1DCM/ref=pd_cp_cps_0
Other options I do not own and cannot vouch for:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-S305-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B002BH3I9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1294671987&sr=1-1
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DRBT101-BLK-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B001QXDSMW/ref=sr_1_8?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1294671987&sr=1-8
hope this helps...its usually the stero headsets which will play music and then answer calls...the ear muff style is good for planes etc..the earbud style for driving and stuff...

Headphone Jack Sound Problems

Hi there, I recently bought an HTC amaze and I love it so far, but I do have one problem. When I use any pair of headphones or 3.5mm jack my music will play out of both sides, but it's much quieter on the right side. I've tested this with many sources and nothing has worked so far. Is this a common problem? I have 30 days to return the phone but I'd really rather not if I don't have to.
Not an issue on my Amaze.
Have you tried different headphones? Or maybe one of you ears is going bad.
Haha... Definitely not my ears. I've tried several headphones and aux cables and none have worked. Guess I'm going to have to return it. I figured it was probably a hardware issue.
Before you do that try using compressed air in the headphones jack to see if there maybe something in there.

That was actually my first guess. It almost looks like it won't go all the way in, but even with tons of force it won't go down any further. Looks like I'll be using bluetooth headphones.

[Q] Low Sound Even on high end Earphones.

hey guyz I recently broke my Earphone, was shopping for a new one and suddenly realized that no matter Whichever Earphone / Headphone I connect the Max sound is the same I used to get with my S2 Box earphone.
Why this problem ? Any issue with my mobile ? Even after connecting headphones priced till 15K they sound same , while with other device such as Blackberry phone
Curve 9350) the sound was loud.
If there is some problem with my mobile my new purchase wil be a cheaper earphone as there is no pt in buying good.
Also note Mobile is not under warranty,Rooted and Running CM10

But I cant believe that all headphones sound same,Then what is the point in buying expensive ones.
I'm currently running siyah kernel.I connected few beats and sony headsets which were on demo still the same sound as it was with my Box Earphones but sound loud with other phones. I broke my earphone last week,Planning to buy new one, but just dumb stuck if all headphones sound same I would buy a cheaper one as it will give equal sound.
Please suggest.

Unless the headphones are "lighter" to run(I do not speak audio-geek, but it is something similar to that) the audio will be the same volume, no matter how expensive they are. However, the sound mihgt be a lot clearer and sound fuller (more audio-geek), better if you will, with expensive, high-end headphones.
Clean your ears out (yes, I'm serious). I've used 6 different canalphones with the SGS2 (from ****ty buds to Shure SE535's) & once you solve the low volume issue (by running a kernel that can boost the volume, as you've already been advised), each one sounded as it should, I.E the buds sounded ****, the others sounded varying degrees of good depending on which one I was using.
The SGS2 is known for having inferior SQ compared to the SGS/SGS3 because someone at Samsung made the fatal error of changing what worked with the SGS in terms of sound quality (the Wolfson DAC) to the SGS2 (a Yamaha DAC).
If you bought the SGS2 with the intention of listening to a lot of music, and you like good sound quality, be prepared to be disappointed. While it's adequate, there's a bunch of other phones that blow it out of the water. Do what I did & buy a dedicated media player.
Having said that, loud does not equal quality (tho you'd think that wasn't the case with some of the posts you see on here).
The other issue you need to consider is how easy the headphones are to 'drive' (how much power they draw from the device to run), harder to drive headphones won't be as loud, and the SQ might suffer also as some only shine SQ wise when you amp them (less true of in-ears, true of some ordinary headphones, particularly as you move up in price/quality).
I found no difference in clarity as well as Loudness. I'm already running siyah kernel . What more can I do ?
Suggest me a Canal earphone in the same price range as a replacement for the original one.
I'm using player pro App.
If you're already using the amp built into Siyah via whatever app they're using for the tweaks these days & it still isn't loud enough (and you do need to use the amp in the app to boost the sound; the kernel doesn't do it on it's own. If you're serious about this, you'll read the Siyah threads to learn how to use it) there's three possible scenarios (last time I used Siyah you could boost by up to 20dB, which is ear bleeding loud):-
1) Your ears are full of wax.
2) The earphones you're using are hard to drive, which means the SGS2 doesn't put out enough voltage to make them play loud
3) You have some hearing loss (Do not dismiss this out of hand, plenty of people have it & have absolutely no clue until they get tested).
I won't recommend you a headphone/earphone because everyone's taste in sound is different, the same headphone can sound a bit different to different people. I can guarantee you would not like the IEM's I currently own because you mentioned Beats in one of your posts.
Soooo.........
Try these guys. I'm not saying buy from them necessarily, because you can get most of what they sell cheaper elsewhere. But they've got a big range, they're honest about what a particular headphone is like & they only sell headphones/related gear. If you're keen enough, check out their forums & ask there as well; tell them your price range (even if you're not buying from them, a ballpark number will help. Do a conversion online from your currency to AUD), what kind of music you listen to/what type of sound you want, and they'll make recommendations. As I said, they're honest, and they won't recommend you something expensive purely to get a sale.
And if you do post in their forums, make sure you say please.
Edit - Also have a look @ HeadFi (even if it is full of dickheads).

[Q] Is the S2 destroying headphones?

OK. So I have looked ALL over the forums and interwebs and I haven't found anything that relates to the problem i'm having!
I have had my S2 for almost 2 years and it has never failed me. Let's say about a year ago I was using my official samsung headphones when the right side stopped working. Considering that it could be the phone's problem I used the headphones in other devices (inclusing pc) and realised that the headphones had the same problem, right side was dead.
So, I tried my sister's headphones (official), worked great for about a week, then the same happened. Right headphoned died!
Then I bought some similar headphones, worked great for 2 days, then....caput! Right side dies!!!
I have tried settings, looking inside audio jack, fiddle around with headphone cable. I HAVE NO CLUE!
Is anyone finding this a problem? Has it happened to anyone else? Is this a common problem with the S2?
I am running Android Jellybean 4.1.2.
I am not rooted and I don't want to take my phone apart. I'm starting to think the S2 is eating away at headphones in general, only the right side.
Thanks in advance!
I've used the stock earphones and a better quality Sony pair....and I'm also using a mod that significantly increases overall volume and bass etc........and so far, my earphones seem to be surviving......when you were using these earphones, did you notice any significant difference in the sound balance between left and right?
Edit......
Just a question......
With the stock earphones, you have the main (single) cable between the plug and the mic.....and then from the mic, you have a short left cable and a long right cable......were the other earphones you used of the same design, or were they the more traditional type where the left and right cables are the same length?

Nope! Sound quality was perfect every time. Settings were set to stereo and never had to change the equaliser. All earphones would work flawlessly in any music player, video player, youtube...etc. Then quite randomly they would lose sound in the right earphone and never work again on that side in any device. That's 4 sets of headphones I have gone through that have all broken in the same way. I haven't touched a damned thing!
Do you have your earphones in your pocket? Maybe the cable just breaks. Had this a couple of times.

The stock earphones cost maybe $2 to manufacture. I think that might have a lot more to do with it than the phone itself.

Yes. That is a factor I have taken into account. But the headphones have always been wrapped neatly and never bent. It's strange how it only seems to lose audio on the RIGHT side earphone though.

Have used earphones of great quality, costing much more than that. And the same thing has happened.
Are u using the headphones for a lot of things? ( I mean not just your phone) If that is the case, try using the headphones ONLY with your phone and laptop, i've had some problems before like this when i plugged my headphones to my friend's phone and those mini tv things on the bus.

ALL headphones I had were only ever used for the phone! I have great headphones for laptop so the phone ones were never needed.
Then there may indeed be a problem with your phone, maybe it short-circuits or something, you can try s2 nuke from hawkerpaul: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
If this doesn't solve the problem,it's probably hardware and there is nothing you can do, give it to a samsung center.
Don't wait anymore
After going through the OP and ALL the replies, I just want to second the opinion that it is indeed a hardware problem specific to your device only.. So try not to put the fifth pair of headphones in, just visit your nearest Samsung service centre and I am sure they will know how to go about your problem..

LG Quadbeat 2 (G3 bundled ) dont work on non-LG phones .. ?

Ok, so I got G3 from a contract and gave it to little sis and she still uses her Beats earbuds so I was all happy with new pair of earbuds for free - but I tried it on 2 phones and cant get the sound right.
My Xperia Z2 - wont work, only left is working
Old ZTE Blade 3 phone - distorted sound, could barely get both buds to work if I wiggle the jack a bit
As I have seen these earbuds are sold separately and as a stand-alone product, Im wondering is there a difference in audio jack for a bundled version and stand-alone version .. ?
pleaste if you have them, try them on a non-LG device and tell me. Cause Im planing on replacing the 3.5mm jack if that is the case.
I wanna know that too...
And also
I bought some stand alone Quadbeats 2 for me and it sounded very bad compared to the ones a friend of mine had which came with his G3...
I wonder do they (LG) put the same work and dedication for both, or they are not caring for their stand alone products? Or the ones that I bought was fake?
Thank You
LG's approach to headphone audio is different from universal. Wanted to give my sister Quadbeats on her S4 because I got much better earbuds but Quadbeats just dont work for her. I experience the issue only on other phones than LG's.
Since I use third-party earbuds (Sony ones which are much better and more expensive) I have to plug and unplug them (5-10 times) until the phone recognizes them as standard headphones. Otherwise it would go wild launching google voice search, changing tracks, changing volume and stopping music every 3 seconds.
Get a pair of Sennheiser CX3.00 or CX5.00. Get the G version. They work excellent with the LG G3 and the sound is so much better then the Quadbeat headphones.
So, even though no one answered exactly my question I get the point - Im slicing them up. Putting regular 3.5mm jack while connecting only ground and L/R and dont care for the rest of the wires/buttons. Ah man, I love soldering.
