Hi!!
I am no stranger to running custom Android ROMs, but this is the first time I have dealt with storage encryption. My phone is rooted, S-OFF, TWRP recovery installed.
Of course, now that my Internal Storage is encrypted, I cannot access my new ROM .zip file from TWRP recovery to flash a new ROM.
I think I need to do some sort of wipe/reset to disable encryption, but I don't want to proceed without a clear understanding of what I need to do. Any ideas??!?!
Never mind.
Solution, in case anyone stumbles into the same issue:
Flash stock recovery, perform factory reset, load new ROM.zip, re-flash TWRP, flash away!

I unlocked my bootloader and flashed a custom recovery for the first time yesterday (TWRP). I also flashed a ROM (Fresh by flipz) and that's when I noticed that some apps would simply refused to install. They would not install from my Titanium Backup of them and they wouldn't install from the market either (giving a vague "could not install to phone storage or sd card" error message).
I didn't know which to blame, the custom recovery or the custom ROM, so I started by flashing back to stock recovery (while keeping the custom ROM) but the apps still wouldn't install. So then I flashed back to the stock ROM as well, and the apps still wouldn't install! Finally, I relocked the phone and RUU'ed back to stock and now the apps install just fine.
Was HTC Dev's unlock really to blame for that or am I missing something?
I've had similar issues before if I did not perform a full data wipe and system wipe before flashing a new rom. If I simply went back into recovery and did a full wipe (cache/dalvik/data/system) and reflashed, it solved the problem.
While performing a ROM change, I ran into this problem: Using TWRP 2.4.1 i got into recovery and did a clean install as usual. Wipe internal storage, factory reset, system, dalvik, and cache, and format data. Done this plenty of times , with never a problem. Today however, when i went to install from external storage, my phone is not seeing the sd card. I can still boot into TWRP, so I tried formating card, then tried 4 different sd cards, but no luck with phone mounting sd card. How do I get an operating system back on this? ODIN? Please advise. Thank you
Boot into Odin flash a stock ROM
okay, Thanks for the quick reply. I've never flashed a stock rom from odin before. Will that unroot my phone?(not that I mind, just wondering). And also, how do I get into ODIN to flash?
My bad I meant boot into Download Mode (if you can) then flash a stock ROM through Odin. Yes it will unroot you, but yo can easily root your device again. Follow the steps Here to unroot.
Ok, I've flashed a few ROMS Before using different recoverys, etc etc. I was attempting to install the VIPER ROM which requires you to install their "custom" recovery. So i did and rebooted my phone into recovery preparing to install the rom.zip from my SD Card. BUT for some reason it wouldn't read any downloads in my SD & when i went to restore my backup..... it wasn't reading anything there. SO, last night i attempted to remove the "CUSTOM" recovery and restore TWRP..... I removed the "cUSTOM" recovery successfully.... NOw i have a phone with a bootloader(unlocked of course) and NO OS, NO RECOVERY. I've been told to perform a hard factory reset by my friend, but when i attempt to do that it just goes to the HTC quietly brilliant screen, and stays. I was attempting to perform the factory reset through the adb command prompt but i have almost no experience with that method and couldn't find a post about a problem quite like mine. (SORRY if there is and it was overlooked, a bit stressed) I NEED HELP ON WHAT I SHOULD DO....
A. I dont know how to do a HARD factory reset now without using bootloader.
B. DO i have to reset it? Would an RUU work?
C. IS there another way to restory TWRP & My old backups or another custom ROM without LOSING my pictures/music/videos???

A- You can not reset because there no OS what will you reset in a phone without OS
B- If your phone is S-off then you sure you can run RUU.
C-IF you have created the nandroid backup then sure you can backup flash the recovery from which you have made the backup and restore it, and don't factory reset you will lose all your pic.
Flash stock ROM via PC

You should be able to flash a custom recovery from the bootloader. After that, if you cannot access your recoveries, then you should be able to sideload a ROM directly from your computer via ADB.
Good luck!
Hello
I was at RUI C07 stock firmware.
I've managed to unlock the bootloader and to install TWRP 3.4.0. Then I've tried to flash derpfest (android 10), LineageOS and RevengeOS.
All of them seems to have flashed successfully, but TWRP always warns that there is no OS installed when I try to reboot. When I do reboot, it tries to load something, fails and goes back to TWRP.
What is the problem? Should I try to flash vbmeta? Where can I find it? I'm completely lost.
Thanks in advance
I've just followed the "unbrick guide" and there was little developement...Now the phone boots to fastboot/bootloader by default. I can boot to recovery if I request it. But if I just turn on the system or if I request system, it stops at the bootloader.
What a roller coaster ride!
What seems to have worked for me was to flash yet another ROM (crDroid). But this time I made sure that I've formatted DATA, and then I've wiped vendor, system, caches, internal disk.
I may have forgotten to format the data partition before, which might have been the cause for so much trouble.
If you are reading this, don't forget to format the data partition before flashing a custom ROM, at east when coming from the stock rom.
TWRP recovery used to ask for a password to decrypt/mount my storage.
I flashed a new image to update the recovery and wiped my data too as I wanted to flash another rom,
but now when I'm opening the recovery with my password, it shows "Wrong Password"
and I can't mount storage and that's why I can't flash another rom.
Please help.

Did you do data partition format? Not only wipe, format is needed
Hello, to delete the encrypted partition if you don't know the password, you have to format it, but if you don't want to lose something of what there is, install Orangefox recovery, the same thing happened to me and this recovery mounts the partition even if it is encrypted. ...
Mine's worst, despite the efforts of wiping and formatting I still can't install a rom due to unable to mount storage problem. I hope anyone help me, this will speed up my nonstop search for a fix -_-

Dear i am facing the same problem. This is what happens when we install a rom without logging out our passwords and accounts from the device. The Lockscreen password is the one which encrypts the storage. And when we try to flash another rom without decrypting our storage on the first hand.. It stucks.... TWRP will never be able to decrypt it. The only one solution which i have in my mind is to relock the bootloader through Stock Rom and then unlocking the bootloader might have the chances to resolve the issue. Just thinking to do so.......... Its an idea rather........

I see but for some reasons I can't flash the exactly same firmware stock rom, it always says corrupted file, I dunno what will I do now, I tried every versions of my phone's stock roms all with the same error corrupted file. I'm using orange fox recovery cause I can't seem to find a compatible TWRP since I updated to latest firmware, by the way my phone is RMX2061_11_C23. I tried using adb sideload but with no luck. I'm still stuck...
