Hi folks,
May I ask a question please
I remember seeing somewhere before that rooted users can't use Google Video anymore or having some other difficulties accessing DRM protected contents,
is it still the case here for Razr? specifically US Verizon Razr.
Does anyone here have Razr rooted and have no issues buying Amazon/Google Videos and no issues with their, say, NFL app by verizon?
Thanks for any confirmation!!
Cheers,
J
Confirmation!
I can confirm, I'm rooted and I have no problems with NFL and netflicks which I have heard uses DRM also. So there you go!!
Thank you! I can pass Google Video but I can't miss Steelers' game tomorrow
best to your steelers!

I don't have a horse in this race since my dolphins were a disappointment this year, but I will be watching anyways as an all around football fan!
The only thing that should disable your Google Video is unlocking your bootloader (impossible at the moment).
This has been explained by ASUS, talking of the Transformer Prime, that comes with a locked bootloader and a tool for unlocking it.
In less words, they're saying that the Transformer Prime comes locked because of DRM content protection and when you unlock it, they're disabling the DRM keys management because they can be easily hacked with something like a custom kernel.
They're absolutely right.
Thanks and just for the record. Google video is not working after rooting (and I am fine with that )

My problem? the bootloader not being fully unlocked... halve a promiss which has been made by asus IMO.

Cool thanks. This would be awesome. Save people from a few brick situations.
The only reason they may not is because it gives access to DRM information, correct?

as far as i know, that was the reason why we wouldn't get any google music store or w/e it was support? which i never used and heared about before all this stuff anyway

Yea, I have never once considered buying a movie/music there. That is what Netflix/Spotify/Grooveshark is far
I would be 100% okay with a second unlock tool that will further unlock but disable access to DRM material on the market
If I were to hypothetically steal music/movies, It would be on my PC anyway where it is much easier. Hypothetically speaking

lol I know right? They're punishing you by not giving you access to something no one uses anyway. Great way to make sure they don't get customers.

that would be okey if they denied us the access, but in trade for that they should have unlocked the entire bootloader, and not on the current state where we are screwed on both sides (and not the pleasant way)..

Just saw this thread funny i had to rant about the same thing last night. IMO if they're gonna fully void our warranty they HAVE to fully unlock it. Anything else is bull****. Not having nvflash and fastboot is a bigger issue than all others combined for me.

its like giving away a car without an engine, nor a spot for one... ;/
and that noob @ asus... wow.. serious... i thought they had more brighter people working there...
also without being capable of using nvflash and fastboot, i won't unlock it i think..
and what if they release a new tool? would it be capable to use at the 'unlocked' devices as well? which im afraid off it won't at start of it...
post the email. We should have the whole forum send them an email. OR lets do another BBB complaint
i just used contact us @ asus.com... you won't get to see a true email adress, but at the bright hand, you don't have to fill in your serial number, just fill in like not-needed i did that as well
[update] seems like email 1 has been forwarded, since it has been changed activity to: your suggestion has been received by us and is being progressed.......etc...
email2 still no changes

Looks good. But man if you get a real response from Asus at least proof read first. Everyone appreciates professionalism.

I can see a few reasons where it would make sense.
0.) Maybe they can't officially. I'm not sure where TF101's nvflash stuff comes from but I could see nVidia making it an issue not to just throw it around willy nilly. Who knows, they could be held liable or risk damaging their contracts with suppliers (like nVidia).
1.) If it could "Undo" the unlocker, well d'uh we're not gonna get it in any legit way.
2.) Maybe they're fed up with enough leaks and general issues that they don't care, after all two new models coming on line soon. And I do expect even if ASUS isn't replacing the Prime, stores will replace it with the new budget model and the Infinity.

IF unlocking the boot loader was for rooting(which this could be the case IF fastboot was working), they are basically contradicting themselves. They're saying since the boot loader is unlocked we can now root. The way you root when you unlock the boot loader is by changing ro-secure= from 1 to 0 in default.prop in the boot.img(unsecure boot.img), then flash the unsecure boot.img with fastboot. This gives you a root terminal and adb remount to mount system r/w. This is the proper way to do it.
The guy in that email is full of ****, or has no clue what he's talking about. Most likely both
It makes absolutely NO sense for them to cripple fastboot. Nvflash, I can somewhat see in the eyes of some paper pushing pu$$y, but not fastboot.
maybe someone else should try to email... ;/
I hope this doesn't upset anyone that I ask here, but it's a legit question.
I bought my TF201 used from someone online a couple weeks ago, and sadly they had updated it to .21 before they shipped it to me. I really want to root it so I can use a few apps (the Joystick2Touch addon being my biggest "want") but I'm not sure how long it will be before a root option is figured out for the .21 update.
Is it worth going the unlock path and voiding my warranty, or is there hope for a root option for .21 in a decent timespan? If everyone thinks it's going to be a long time before a root option is available, I may just unlock it, but I'd be willing to wait a month or so for a root option if it's a good possibility there will be one.
Thanks in advance!
i believe i saw someone someone say just yesterday that we will be having an update soon and that we have a way of rooting so devs dont want to burn an exploit for it to just be updated soon after so might as well wait for the supposed update and then see if we have a root option other than unlocking some time after that.

That''s cool. If that's the case, I can probably just wait for a proper root for the latest update. I don't think anything I want to do with the tablet makes unlocking it worth it unless it's going to be the only foreseeable method for rooting.
Root or unlock
Given that there is another update on the way and the post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537260 see the post for today by Gary Keys about giving nvflash. I would say it would be highly unlikely for any root method to be forthcomng. That being said, roms will get updated with future updates i'm sure and the thing does run better on custom roms imo. But then again I've rooted every phone i have owned too so I am prone to breaking the warrenty rules.....
I see...
I'm not against unlocking - I would do it if it's worth it - but I'm skittish on any problems happening because of it and not having a warranty to cover it. Is that a genuine concern to have with my Prime and unlocking it? I'm pretty tech-savvy, so I doubt I would screw up the process, I'm just not sure of the risks.
15 day of use
Hi, i´m joining the search for a root method in .21, i think this will be usefull for people like me that just bought their primes, even i havent received the gps dongle, so losing my warranty a this time will be premature, 'cause i need be sure that my tablet works ok, thats one of the rasons we will search
Here is what you are looking for:

I've known for some time that the app permissions and data about us being sent to companies via our 'free' apps has always been scandelous. If you don't know about this, there are countless studies by reputable organisations, simply google it.
Like many of us here, I've owned a number of hot Xperia phones, and a few days ago got a new one! But, I updated an app, and when I opened it, I got a shock with how far the permissions are going. The updated app said note: we're going to collect this data about your device. The three pieces that pi**ed me off today are:
1. Phone number
2. Android device ID
3. Info. about all apps on phone
If you're famialiar with why Facebook is one of the greatest marketing successes of our time, then you probably, like me, like to protect your privacy on your phone. I don't think Google is all bad, and there are so many apps which help you in this regard.
Without voiding the warranty of my new phone, I cannot yet get root. I need root to install all sorts of apps which help protect me and my life. Would you tell a stranger on the street your name, age, what's on your phone, phone number, the sites you visit etc? I wouldn't do that. I'm frustrated right now, caught between saving my new warranty and not selling my life for a few stupid 'free' games. I think there is a misstep here. OK the manufacturers let us modify software at our own risk, but they sell the stories of our phones living in an app heaven/bountyland/happy place, but don't do anything to help us protect our privacy.
I agree with you completely. But there are methods to root your phone without unlocking the bootloader (if you still think they will discover, you just have to flash a stock firmware before taking to the store and done)

Thanks buddy. I've tried all locked-bootloader roots available in this section, flashtool and others.
p.s. for anyone interested in one in this stuff, probably my favourite app (requires root) is LBE Privacy Guard. I used it on other Xperias and there's nothing it can't do!

Wow, you can't post anything on this site without an irrelevant sarcastic answer.
Why can't you just root using this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Straight forward and quick. Then if you need to send your phone in just flash back to your standard stock firmware??
Thanks very much! I have tried that one though, and posted a report - it fails on my phone. It works for some phones (especially the S and P) but not on all the 2012 Sony phones. I've rooted a few phones before, so I check all the things you have to do and can't find the problem. No one with my phone has posted success with that tool so I doubt it's just me.
I seen in the data usage, some of the free apps have been upload a LOT of data, when they have no reason to e.g. a free live wallpaper. It makes me so angry I just want to nuke the software and not install anything new until root is sorted.
Can someone tell me if this is a legit root for the Verizon Sony Xperia Z3v?
http://www.how-to-root.club/mp3-0/sony-xperia-z3v-6796.html
or this?

Or is it all a scam? I tried looking for the first one through XDA cause they are claiming they rewrote the tutorial from XDA
It's a scam
First link, I just judge by what color ring my WOT icon is, and it's yellow. So no, not trusted.
Second link, look at how many dislikes compared to likes. So...nope! xD
If anything, someone who's notable would come out around these parts (on XDA) to make announcements that our phones is getting root with his/her proven work, that's where you should be getting from.
Edit: For the first link, you could even try navigating around the website. All of the links ends up back at that one page. Don't fall for stuff like this, trust in the true Lollipop update when it comes. lol

I don't know if it's a scam (will install malicious sw if you try it) or just someone who didn't know what they're talking about (regurgitated content that doesn't apply to us). First, z3v is not on the supported devices for the root process. Neither is the regular z3. As far as Lollipop, the instructions require an unlocked bootloader, which we don't have.
Wonder if one of those is the Ransomware that is going around? Install the malicious app and your phone is locked down until you pay a "ransom" to get it unlocked.

Thanks everyone I knew it was too good to be true. XDA guys have the greatest minds! . I hope there will be a root for our phone before lollipop comes out

Hey everyone. .am from algeria and I really love this phone ! But am wondering if this phone will be able to work in my country. ..I mean in algeria with our service... please give me an answer.... am waiting.. thanks...
Yes it should work. This phone is Sim unlocked.
wondering
Is the xperia z3v better and faster than the xperia z3 !!
I really want to buy the xperia z3v ... and the xperia z3 !!! It's hard to choose. ...
help me please. ..
Well with you already being international I would recommend the Z3 with it being a global phone. I'm not certain which one would take advantage of your towers the easiest.
And with the international version, you get root and a two day battery life. Plus higher ISO sensitivity with your only drawbacks in pink circles appearing on your pictures and maybe faulty wrist straps that ruin waterproof.
Eh...
