Touchpad Toolbox - TouchPad General

Just installed JCSullins KitKat ROM using his fantastic TPToolbox. Whole process was very straightforward and worked a breeze. Would have written to thank him in his thread about it but haven't enough posts yet to do so. Made an intimidating process straightforward.

Thanks to JCSullins !

Same from my side. I'm new here and I like it a lot. Seems to be the best place for technical webos / TP users.

I agree. It seems like an excellent tool. I'm about to sit down and put in my touchpad, hopefully it's smooth sailing. Have you reinstalled android or anything like that? If so, is android smoother or faster for you?

I used the toolbox yesterday to blow away WebOS and an old CM install from last year. Used it to flash latest CWM and CM11, easy as pie. I would definitely say it's smoother than my previous install.

I agree, my experience was similar. I saw an increase in performance. That being said, I'm still playing around with different gapps installs. For me, the smoothest has been the stock, latest, kk-gapps that's like 200+ Mb. Have you found anything better?

I'm just using the gapps from the CM11 nightly thread, only about 85mb I believe. No issues yet.

Quick n easy installs with TT!

Touchpad
Very slick!
Can't believe it was so easy to get kitkat on my Touchpad.

Touchpad Toolbox-recovery issue?
Hi, all. After unmounting the media volume (post copy of recovery, gapps and rom to ttinstall folder) I see the following: Checking Install files...
1 logical volume (s) in volume group "store" now active
No supported recovery file found. Aborting.
My ttinstall folder contains:
cm-11-20140705-UNOFFICIAL-3.4_kernel-tenderloin.zip
gapps-kk-20140105.zip
update-TWRP-jcs-dm-tenderloin-20140512.zip
I'm assuming the last is my recovery. I've done the complete data reset three times, with the same issue. If I choose reboot, I get:
Selected: 'boot'
Loading ' /boot/uImage-2.6.35-palm-tenderloin'...FAILED
BOOT FAILED!
Any idea on what's going on? Is there a "standard" recovery file I should try instead to make this work? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed, excellent tool - just a note about re-installing WebOS
Just finished installing the Toolbox (way to go JCS!!), just wanted to note that I received a "NOT COMPATIBLE DEVICE" error when following the instructions from JCS Post #64. When I used a WebOS doctor that I already had, there was no problem.
The doctor listed in post #64 is "webosdoctorp305hstnhatt.jar" which gave me the error
The doctor I used is "webosdoctorp305hstnhatt.jar" which worked fine
not sure what the difference is, but wanted to post this for non-devs like me.

Well, thanks to JCsullins !! (and all the others...)
I just used tptoolbox to resuscitate my TP which was sleeping with android 4.0 for a while in a desk...
I now use it as a "media solution" to stream Google Music and my movies (bubbleupnp/ or plex) from the NAS to my TV and my stereo... awesome ! (i prefer having a device at home dedicated to that job than using my phone...)
i wouldn't have done it without tptoolbox, it was boring and time-consuming before that ...

I couldn't get the HP toolbox to recognize the novacom driver / service, even though I could run acme and communicate / query the TP.
Anyways, was running 4.4.2 can't remember which build. Updated to the jscullin 4.4.4 6/25?
Reading through the forums I didn't really see many instructions for this update path. Ended up copying the install .zip to the TP and ran install .zip from clockworkmod in the boot menu. Figured they were both 4.4.x and this shouldn't be an issue.
After the .zip load the TP booted and updated android with no problems. Optimized apps ect. When I logged in I had a few app updates but nothing major.
Impressed with 4.4.4 so far. I use chromecast to watch football (american), and it works flawless. Not a Netflix fan so no comment, although I think it would work fine since watchespn / YouTube cast w/o issue.
I don't use Bluetooth so...
Seems stable, not a single freeze or anything like that.
Just wanted to say that a "dirty" flash from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 works fine, at least for me and I didn't need to restore all my apps etc.
Been running android on this puppy for a few years now. Had access to an "early" device.
Kindly,
Tpnsd.

Please try the version of Touchpad Toolbox (v41) I just released in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=293
Note that you will need to use one of the new Recoveries linked from that post.
If you still have problems with that version of TPToolbox, let me know in this thread.

No worries.......you did an awesome job on this project........just wanted to help where I could. BTW, what is your background that makes it possible to create these projects? I am a mechanical engineer with some programming experience in visual basic, C, FORTRAN 77 (yeah, I know pretty old). Where should I start training myself to be able to help the community (and, of course, have some fun)? Thanks again for your hard.......donation is on the way......

I also have a low post count but I'd like to say thank you for the tool. It's worked flawlessly for me a couple times so far.

Error using hp toolbox v41
Hello;
I am completely new here and was trying to repair my 16 GB HP TP via other JCS post and forums on youtube, rootzwiki etc. but no success get my touchpad repairs.
recently I found JCS new toolbox v41. and downloaded it. it looks very awesome and easy to use. Thanks JCS for making it easy for people with little tech background......
However, when I run new toolbox v41 on my tp. I got following errors.
1) When I tried to use complete data reset option I get following error
Error: Invalid partition info: end-gap greater than 1 percent of mmc
2) When I tried to use Create WebOS Volume option, It failed again with following error:
>>> Obtaining existing Volume size….
Determining volume size….
Problem w/ vgchange –ay
Error: volsize all failed rc=1
I downloaded CWM DM and Non DM ...and copy files on Palm, Inc. Folder and re-run the toolbox again...but got the same error as above.
can someone help, what should I do next? or if someone direct me which thread I should have to follow?
I had read many many thread on rootzwiki ..still no success yet.... thought HP toolbox v41 can assist me... but still need guidance..

Go back to the OP for touchpad toolbox and load that version. V41 is experimental and not for nube's like us. The version in the OP should work fine for you.

Nope, have used it a couple of times now and no volume button issues. Are you running it from your PC or the standalone version bootable from MoBoot?

[Q] Eris Rooting track ball challenge

I have spent days looking for threads so this neewb is about to break something. Well maybe not. I have my daughters Eris 2.1 and am trying to root it for her. I have tried several times with different methods. The issue is that I can get into recovery mode after every 1 click app but nothing I try will let me toggle to unzip to SD, or toggle to anything for that matter, volume wont do it and all track ball will do is let me select reboot. Man my DX was easy compared to the one click method.
HELP PLEASE,
If the trackball is having trouble scrolling, I'd install the trackball-optional custom recovery so you can use other buttons to scroll. There are instructions for doing this here:
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/214240-amon_ra-1-6-2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html
It sounds like you fall into "Scenario 2" which says you should follow the same method as "Scenario 1" to get rooted using the trackball-optional recovery.
I'll give it a shot, The help is much appreciated,
I am been trying to help him to get this thing to add the Custom Recovery, but every root format has not worked at all. Most are outdated or there are files missing. Specially on the link provided above. The download for the scripts no longer has Root_1 or Root_2, it has a bunch of other stuff there for gscript. Found an link on Droidforums for gscript for rooting and the scripts don't work.
Any complete instructions anywhere?

popfan,
I am not aware that any of the above links or files are missing... Can you point-out / tell me specifically which files you cannot access / download / link-to?
The root_part1 and root_part2 files are part of erisuser1's (bftb0's) Universal Root for Dummies! thread that I do reference in my AF thread, but these should still be up, active, and available.
So, I'm not sure if you are speaking about becoming rooted or installing a my trackball-optional custom recovery.
Let us know.
Cheers!
Im sure my kid has shuned me for leaving her Eris with someone so thanks to everyone for the help. Pop is helping me out and after moving file at the point where it says to open and look to see root 1 and root2 they are not there and there are a ton of other stuff. Also the pick look different than on the thread like the app has been updated. Also when doing the ball recovery there is no tools folder to be found. I'm sure pop wont touch it again till tomorrow so any other help / advice is more than welcome or it may cost me my Dx

LOL, sorry, didn't make/see the connection between your two posts .
Okay, let's try something new here...
Just a week or so ago, I re-packed jcase's 1-click rooting app to include my trackball-optional recovery image in lieu of the original recovery that his app includes.
So, let's have you re-root using the new 1-click app (all credit to jcase, both for his app and his threads both here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228 and over at AF http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/139178-universal-1-click-eris-app-apk-no-pcs-no-scripts-needed-easy.html).
Since you've already used the 1-click app before, then all you'll have to do is grab my new "trackball-optional" version:
https://sites.google.com/site/scaryalienware/downloads/one-click-tbo.apk
MD5 sum: 15763b51cf707c027cc73bc117e1fc39
(the "tbo" in the name stands for "trackball optional" ).
Just follow the same process you did before while running the 1-click app and you should end-up with my trackball-optional recovery installed.
Let me know how it goes (you'll be the first besides me that I know of that has tried it; the user that I created it for to test has not yet responded, LOL).
Cheers!
I tried this link below. It no longer has the root_1 and root_2 in it.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=774XYFRA
I did use your "updated" 1-click app with tbo and it worked great.
Thanks!!
Too bad this phone was not as easy as my captivate.

Glad that jcase's repackaged app worked for you. I'll update my documentation to make this available to others.
Also, re. the above Megaupload link...it works just fine for me (from my PC and from my Droid X) and includes all of the aforementioned root_part1/2 files.
I think you've fallen prey to a truncated download, which is not uncommon with Megaupload in my experience. This is also why is important to double-check the file sizes and MD5 checksums of files that you download so that you know you got the whole-shebang; notice that erisuser1 did include the MD5 in his thread for this file:
- Download gscript.zip (MD5 92796a8c6e61e8f1ee36e315c0acae7d)
I've often found it helpful to use a different browser other than the stock browser (like Opera Mini) when doing downloads via my Eris since the stock browser does seem to have more issues (timeouts perhaps) than it should.
Cheers!
Thanks to all this tuff till you hooked us up but now on to nightmare 2
I downloaded CyanogenMod7.1.0 RC1 [2.3.5 GingerBread NIGHTLY]
from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430&highlight=ROM
Got it up but it has no market so I can not get to titanium, boot loader or anything... It says to flash google apps after the rom but now Im back to the trackball / volume key issue because it's all in titanium. ??? I did a factory reset and it came back up as the new ROM, ???
EDIT UPDATE!!!!
Sorry for the hassle all, the "green" start call button works as the down after the download.. All is well.. I think..
Again thanks to you all, If I hear of any good deals on an Eris I will know why.
You need to download GAPPS to your sdcard. That is why you don't have market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430&highlight=ROM
Its just below link for the rom and save it to your sdcard. Go ahead boot into recovery and wipe data, daliv-cache, cache; Flash Rom again, then flash gapps and reboot.

Webtop Help(OpenOffice)

Hello-
I am new to the boards as a poster, i've been reading for a while now and I must thank everyone especially in the development section of the forum for their incredible amount of help and expertise.
It has officially come time for my first noob question-
Can anyone help me out or lead me to a guide perhaps that will allow me to use OpenOffice on my webtop? This is really what I bought the lapdock for-it just came in yesterday.
I managed to get webtop2sd working on my own, lxterminal is functional. That's all I've got so far in fear of ruining anything else.
I'm not at all well-versed in any linux script or anything of the sort. I know windows like the back of my hand.. just so happens that my windows PC totally bit the dust(motherboard) last night and I'm forced into learning this stuff a little quicker. Why not, right?
I have done some searching, all of it leads me to a bunch of lingo and commands I don't understand yet. If anyone can point me in the direction of some help or provide me with a little one-on-one that would be awesome. I'm looking forward to helping others with these kinds of issues down the road.
Thank you!
---------- Post added at 11:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:58 AM ----------
Also, I'm not sure if it's any help, but i'm running GB on Alien #4 with faux123's undefined 1.3ghz kernel.
See "EASY METHOD" in the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093790
Assuming you have webtop2sd and the linux addon installed properly
(with the linux image on your external SD), do the following:
1) Click the Penguin. You will get a window that says it has found an image in you external SD card.
2) Simply press "okay" on that window.
3) Once it shows the Pdmenu, select DebianMenus>Applications>Shells>Bash. it will bring up an xterm script which reads "[email protected]:/#"
4) To get open office, you must type "apt-get install openoffice.org" without the quotes.
5) Agree to install/update, and it will read "[email protected]:/#" once it is done.
6) At this point, and from now on, you can do steps 1-3 and simply type "openoffice.org" into xterm. It will take a second, but it will load a fully functional OpenOffice.
Basically you just need to know the package names to use this same structure for other programs. I use "openoffice.org", "iceweasel" (a firefox alternative, since my firefox keeps breaking), and "geany" (a C++ IDE for my programming classes). These are installed using "apt-get install packagename" and run using "packagename" in the bash script as well.
Good luck, and PM me if you have any problems because I likely will forget to return to this thread. Hit that thanks button!

Follow the guide in Alex's thread in the dev forum. I just installed open office yesterday haha.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
+1 to both of you, I'll get started on that and hopefully that will open doors for the rest of the stuff. Thanks a ton
Hello again all-
I didn't want to be that guy posting 95823094820394 threads about the same thing so I just figured I'd bump the one i created with some explanation:
I have webtop2sd properly(i believe, anyway) installed. LXterminal is functional. I also have linuxdisk in sdcard(-ext)/WebTopMOD . I'm not sure what to do from here. the help given above gave instructions to click the penguin while in webtop and run certain commands, but the penguin only brings up the webtop configurator. i have no other icons to click.
My goal, again, is just to get open office running on my webtop, for now. That's really it, the rest i'm sure will come with time. Thank you again for any help.
I seem to have figured it out for the most part using Alex's guide. However, the installation threw a couple errors, couldn't really tell you what they were because they were epic and I'm clueless as far as linux for the time being. However, my educated guess and deduction points towards insufficient memory. I set up my webtop partition to be 1GB, because I'm using a 16GB sd card that's virtually full of music. Is 1GB skimping it if I want to install openoffice/other linux packages? What size partition is recommended?
Thank you!
4GB is recommended, though I would think based on the package sizes that openoffice.org would squeeze into a 1gb partition. With this phone I would definitely recommend an external SD. My 32GB holds my webtopmod, music, and every hack, mod, bootanimation, theme, kernel, radio, and zip I've ever flashed. Do it.
Also openoffice worked, But i think it dosent match the atrix ubuntu core perfectly.
An error name:"openoffice Writer2laterx dose not configured" happened again and again.

Indirect's Winows-based Root Method Not Working for me

Hi all,
First off, just want to say thanks to all of the hardworking devs out there that put a lot of time and effort into these projects. You guys are really awesome!
Secondly, I tried to post this as a reply in the developer's forum, but didn't have enough posts to qualify.
That all being said, I followed all of the instructions in Indirect's post here, but can't get the Nook Tablet to bring up recovery mode when I reboot. It just continues to load the standard B&N image. I even tried a factory reset to see if that would work, but same problem. I verified that the files on the micro-SD card match those as shown in Albert's excellent video here. The device is still running 1.4.0.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
No luck here either...I tried the root while watching Albert's You Tube video at the same time. I think the significant thing is that my screen displays something like:
Extracting files to SYSTEM...
Setting SYSTEM:bin/su permissions to 06755...
Creating SYSTEM:xbin/su symbolic link...
Installation Complete!
Install from sdcard complete.
Whereas the screen in the video shows:
Extracting files to SYSTEM...
Setting SYSTEM:bin/su permissions to 06755...
Creating SYSTEM:xbin/su symbolic link...
Installing GApps 29110878
For Android 2.3.5 Customized for the nook tablet
Mounting data...
Extracting files to data...
Unmounting data...
Install complete. Enjoy!
Installation Complete!
So clearly my install seems to silently abort somewhere in the middle...
Any insight or advice would be appreciated!

Beatbox,
Just re-reading your post I think I got farther than you, but also got stuck on your issue earlier. If you keep the Nook plugged into the PC via the USB cable during the power on, the Nook will boot into the recovery mode - that at least was what got me past your issue.
It's not about Rooting OR recovery. It's about the fact that this method is still being worked on. Indirect has been making modifications to the various files and it is my opinion that the file used in Albert's video is NOT the same file that would be downloaded if you went and obtained it right now.
I would wait this out until Indirect writes an updated post explaining that the method is finalized.
If this is not an option the original root method works perfectly.
Land - when you say "original root method" are you talking about something that predates Albert's solution?

Cool jearley9, this did indeed work for me and I was able to load the image. Problem now is that I always end up at the normal B&N Setup screen. Were you able to get past that part?
And thanks to all the other thread participants. I know it takes time to work these things out, so no biggie. We all get a little too excited and impatient with things like these sometimes.

Just wanted to provide an update. I attempted the instructions from the original rooting thread (my nook tablet doesn't have 1.4.1 yet, so didn't need to downgrade). When I ran the batch file to root, it detected that the device was already rooted - which I quote from the script, "Is bothersome."
Okay, so i think my device is half-rooted somehow. Just can't get the new home screen that I'm seeing on all the videos. I'll keep you guys updated with my further troubleshooting attempts.
Beat, you and I are at least synchronized - I too tried the original root method, and I had the same exact problem as you describe... a message saying "already rooted". I did a system reset right before I tried the root, so I don't see how it could be "already rooted".
I just purchased my Nook yesterday. I am wondering if there are newer units (mine included) that are more resistant to being rooted?
I'm having the same issue, but I can use the search function to determine that apps WERE installed (and will execute properly). I believe that Indirect has removed ADW launcher and Homecatcher from the zip we're suppossed to drop onto the SD Card. My guess is that we're waiting for him to come up with a solution to the "Market not showing up in launcher" issue.
Can someone confirm this?
Well any other tactics I've tried have been to no avail, so I'll just be patient and wait for Indirect to address it. I'm sure he has enough on his plate without us bugging him.
Many thanks to him again for even working on something like this.
Edit:
Okay, for some reason I missed Albert Wertz's helpful Youtube comment:
Please Vote this comment up so everyone else can read it among all the others. Indirect is making some changes to the script, if you dont get adw to launch right after the first reboot from root, you may have to download it manually from the market. You can use the N button menu search function to pull up market by typing M in the search. You can launcher it from here. Until the bugs are worked out, you may only be able to install from market, sideloading may still be an issue. Indirect is fixin

I did this and have no problem bringing up the Android Market now. Just installed an app successfully. Not sure where it lives though. I could only seem to launch it from the Recently Downloaded icon at the bottom bar.
Edit 2:
Okay, just restarted after installing the ADW and now it prompted me to start with it. Only issue I have now is if I hit the N button, it reverts back to the original Barnes & Noble homescreen and I have to reboot to launch ADW again.
I got pretty much to the same place - I downloaded HomeCatcher but that seems to be non-functional - Looks like the Nook home screen is winning this round...

To truly "reset" the system run the downgrade I linked previously EVEN IF you are on 1.4.0. After that it will be just like you took the NT out of the box. Then run the Indirect Root Batch and the "you are already rooted" should be gone. I would hope so anyway
Land,
I did the press and hold 9 times and got back to factory state.
Also, I tried Brianf21's files and I got the same problem as you. If I try to open Update.Zip from Windows it gives me "Please insert last disk of a multi-volume set...". I would guess that the zip file is malformed or incomplete, but that's just a guess...

I copied this post to the Development Thread in my recent reply to Brianf21. It is conceivable at this point that you and I are the only ones that have tried this. lol
Please put information regarding future attempts in that thread to help him troubleshoot.
Glad to see that you were able to reset. I don't believe it will be necessary again if Brian fixes the issue. To my knowledge simply entering CWM using his image had NO affect on my NT.
Land,
Sorry I can't comply with your request - the forum software won't let me post in the development area due to my "newness" - I am 53 years old and have 30 years of software/firmware development experience, but to this forum I am a "newbie"

Alrighty then.... I don't know if I should laugh or cry. You can't even "post" in the Dev section? I wonder how many posts you need. Seems a little extreme to me but you will get there soon enough I guess.
In the meantime I'll make sure that your comments are known. Thanks!

New TouchPad: Trying To Install CM9: Guides are outdated.

Hello guys.
I just got a brand new TouchPad 32GB. WebOS is very nice, but there are not many applications, so I'm trying to intall CM9.
I have all the drivers installed correctly, I can put the touchpad in developer mode, and USB mode
Problem is, MOST of the links on the guides are outdated. I tried guides here, guides on rootwiz, guides on XDA.
So I started looking for the files myself, and now I have.
e0664157ed69f8999e1c3ee77cdc53ae ACMEInstaller2
7b49b53a9d70315c40dccde9fc20e7a9 ACMEInstaller3
7642f3f0a8090dc52445541a94ed8164 cm-9-20120816-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip
980139d6b46b9cbba4db0e07ad17ba5d moboot_0.3.5.zip
1308300f38685d44afde730efd9132cc update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip
So I copied all the files from c:\downloads\touchpad to \cminstall on my touchad.
Rebooted into recovery, and did the:
C:\DOWNLOADS\TOUCHPAD>"C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc\novacom.exe" boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller2
The touchpad did some magic, including some linux thing/scorlling, rebooted, but now I'm back at webos.
So, did i forgot something? Should I use ACMEInstaller2 or ACMEInstaller3 (or even ACMEInstaller?).
Thanks.
EDIT: OK. I just realized that the Boot menu gives you some seconds and then it boots to WebOS.
Now, when it boots, I get this options:
Boot webOS
Boot ClockworkMod
boot webOS Recovery
reboot
shutdown
NONE of the options allows me to boot into CM9. I'm missing something?

Your third file should should be renamed so that it reads ,
update-cm-9-20120816-NIGHTLY-tenderloin
And yes use ACMEIinstaller2
I hope this helps
Boot into CWM and then flash the 8-16Nightly file that you have then the latest Gapps 4-29

How did you get on?
i tried acmeinstaller3 and i was complaining of inode errors ? has anyone else experienced this ? is there anyway of checking the filesystems again for errors, as there was lots of inode fixes maybe it was due to partitian resizing ?
i personally used this link:
http://liliputing.com/2012/01/how-to-install-android-4-0-on-the-hp-touchpad-cyanogenmod-9-alpha.html
The only thing i did different was that i used the latest version of the files.

I did exactly the same.
Just wanted to say this really helped me. And for any of the noobies, if you take the OP's MD5 codes, and plug them into Goo, you will find the files very very quick. And in order for me to download the ACMEInstaller2, I had to change it to a .zip file, and download as such, and then when plugging in the CMD code, just add .zip to the file name, and you're golden. Hope this helps!

If you are partitioned once using ACMEinstaller2, you should ACMEuninstall to remove/repair partitions. After that you can use ACMEinstaller3. Just make sure your CM9 and Gapps file names begin "update-" as you copy them into the cminstall folder.
ACMEInstaller3 is for CM10, not CM9.
not just for CM10

As posted by Developer green, it was designed for CM10 in mind to provide a little more partition room to accomodate CM10. It can be used with no ill effects* with CM9 to get that space from the beginning flash of CM9 and then you would be CM10 ready. You are able to use the benefit of a little more system partition than what is deployed with ACMEinstaller2.
I've used ACMEinstaller3 with great success on 6 of the 15 touchpads I help support with CM9. I use ACMEinstall3 by routine now as there is no need to have either ACMEinstall or ACMEinstall2.
* - the use of a few hundred MB from the SDcard to System partition is a small sacrafice of storage space on SDcard with the potential gain of CM10 ready and more headroom for the system, even on CM9.
I picked up a 32gb TP a few weeks ago.and have just been sitting on it. I was hoping to see some updated guides to simplify my learning curve to get android on it (i know I just need to read and learn). Can't believe I'm so hesitant to do anything with it, but the op's experience seems inline with my expectations of the device at the moment.

Thanks to everyone who posted. I plugged the MD5's in as suggested, found the liliputin, CM, and jcsullins goo.im sites for files and read/the liliputin guide. I'm sure I will have additional questions for when I get back up later tonight to attempt this, but it looks like I have all the needed files ready plus some extras (screenshot).
For now:
- Do you have to "dual boot" android & webos, vs wiping out webos and keeping only android?
- How much space is WebOS taking up on the "dual boot" setup, ie does it have it's own partitions etc separate from android?
- Can you just turn the device on and have it automatically boot android (WAF = Wife Acceptance Factor)
- When installing roms I have been used to formatting /system, /data, & /cache first. Does AcmeInstaller do this for you. If so, you can just do new rom flashes & backups "manually" through CWM or TWRP right? I keep seeing mention of only wiping "cache" beforehand?
- How would I restore the tablet to stock WebOS, AcmeUninstaller? (I plan on going with AcmeInstaller 3)
- My impression is that the latest CM9 Nightlies are the most stable/functional ICS versions currently available for the TP as a daily driver. Is this correct?

Re Files: You have more than enough.
move a copy of ACMEinstall3 to your PCs Palm, Inc folder
rename gapps-20120429-signed.zip to update-gapps-20120429-signed.zip
rename cm9 ROM to update-cm-9-20121007-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip
From webOS / USB mode connect your PC and copy your cminstall folder to the tablet. (cminstall folder should have 4 .zip files: CWM, MoBoot, gapps, cm9) when you reboot to Novacom Bootie, you are ready for your ACMEinstall invocation command. Takes about 15 min. to flash.
CyanogenMod is dependent on webOS to be present. You cannot remove webOS. If you are that concerned for space, webDoctor to ver 3.0.0 and never OTA update. That version has the smallest footprint, you might get a couple hundred MB saved, but IMHO, not worth the effort.
The default boot order selects Android after 5 seconds. You can edit this or use a preware webOS app: CyBoot to edit the default and how long to wait in MoBoot before default is loaded.
ACMEinstaller3 handles the partition chores for you. You don't have any CM or other ROM loaded? If you did, you should ACMEuninstall first or to return it to stock webOS. wiping cache is a selection that is done from CWM or TWRP on re-flash of the ROM. You could select ClockworkMod on first boot to do this step, but I have never bothered on an initial load.
I'm currently on cm-9-20121007, the latest nightly.
Good Luck

The Touchpad's hard drive will show as 27.1gig before installing Android and 25.4 after if you use ACMEInstaller 3 or 25.5 with ACMEInstaller 2 .
You should not attempt to remove webos.
After installation it will automatically boot into Cyanogen/Android with a 5 second delay. To give you the option to change . Both the boot preference and time out can be changed either by installing an app called Cyboot through preware on webos , or by editing the boot folder when running Android.
Use gapps 20120429 and if using ACMEInstaller 3 rename so that it begins update- .
Yes use the latest nightly and rename so it begins update-
Acmeuninstaller will return the tablet back to webos and running Android uninstall from preware will remove moboot .
Install it have fun then you will probably have a few more questions.
Good luck
Thanks guys. I'm up and running on latest CM9.. AWESOME!
Still would like to see someone with a guide here that has up to date links. But the Lilliputin site guide was good minus links.

Softbrick: Can't format system partition

Hi all,
to make it plain and short: I messed up.
I have a GT-S5830i which I unrooted according to the Sticky Note in the forum, installed CWM Recovery and then 'installed from ZIP' a CM9_cooperve_Beta_05.zip that I found in one of the posts in the forum. The installation went on without error message but since then the phone does not make it beyond the initial screen "Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i". I can start recovery mode and Download mode. In reovery mode I can format cache, data, sdcard, sd-ext but *not* system. Error Message: "E: format_volume: make_ext4fs failed on /dev/block/st19"
I have tried already several methods according to the forum, e.g.
1) 'install from ZIP' older Cyanogenmod
2) the tool ext4_formatter.zip
3) re-flash with ODIN with several tar-ROMs, all failed. Odin finds the phone (since I start Odin as Admin now), but after I hit 'start' it tries to establish a connection to the phone and ends after a while with 'Failed'
I'm basically lost now, don't know what else to do. Any advise is appreciated (it's my mom's phone, she is getting impatient )
Thx, cheers!
Xala
Hi @xalarsk , So you can't format your /system partition , which is required for installation of your rom ,, you need to try this method from here mate . Follow my instruction from the line @post#4 :"1. Download one of the newest ,,," to the end of the post and please do not use CM9 beta , because it is unstable and will wreak havoc with your system eventually . ( either cm7 or cm11 is the place you should go for CyanogenMod experience for cooperVe device ).
If you fail at any level please give us your logcat ( error massage ) for better support for your Odin process you mentioned .
Cygwin not working
Hi @ehsanotaku,
thank you for your quick reply, it's appreciated!
Unfortunately I couldn't get cygwin to install all necessary packets. The ZIP-test always failed. I have a Linux system running (Linux Mint 17) though, and hope that might help. In the meantime I tried to download the already split packages as described in another of your forum posts, but the website provides only exe-files instead of zip-files. Is there another location to download them?
#UPDATE: It seems there is a SplitFUS2 version for linux somewhere but couldn't find links to download. Anybody can help? I'll also PM Doky73
Cheers, Holger

Cygwin was meant for windows platform to get the native Linux environment/command line you already got there . You can create a virtual instance of the windows 7 inside virtualbox or any kind of apps you are preferring such as Vmware/Parallel etc etc to get the job done .
Splitfus2 only supports windows platform as far as i know mate,,, either vitalization as i said or the pre-made zip package ( which is clearly not .exe file ,, push the download now and get yourself a descent downland manager,, tested and zip packaged delivered ) from here is the feasible approach for your problem .
Ok, had all the files ready, just the Boot loader <DefaultCalDataWithBoot_S5830iXXLB1_REV00.tar.rar seems to be broken. I downloaded the link provided in your post #8 several times with several download managers, also uses 7-zip and several online unrar services..result always the same: The archive is broken. Mostly this happened because of the bug inside CM9 beta you used . Study this topic mate i troubleshooted while ago for a sample of the symptoms external SD card would show after unstable ICS usage .
Also as an alternative to the method i instructed there , you can format/Re-partition your SD card by putting it inside card reader and using app such as free MiniTool Partition Wizard "Gparted" tool for Linux users Or "iPartiton" for Mac users etc etc ,, to get the job done . You can find several tutorials inside XDA for this matter mate.
Phone works with CM7.2, can I upgrade to CM9?
Hi again,
first of all, props to @ehsanotaku, I will hit the 'Thanks' buttons.
Now, this is a bit beyond the topic, but I'd like to ask anyway for recommendations of CM9 roms. The one I picked from a post inside this forum bricked my phone and made me start this thread, I don't want to go down this road again. So I'd be glad for any recommendation of a stable ROM that will put my phone beyond Android 4.0.
Cheers again,
Xala
So i have a similar issue. I used to have CM11 installed, but i figured thats too slow for me. Then i went back to stock rom (XXMJ2) which works fine. But now i have a problem.
Everytime i want to flash a stock based or cm7 based rom on my phone, it gets messed up. Today i wanted to flash this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace/s5830i-develop/cm-7-2-kitkat-smart-r2-t3075267
i naturally downloaded clockwork mod recovery (5.0.2.6) and tried to flash it. Flashing was done pretty quickly (10 seconds or so) and when i rebooted, i obviously got stuck at sammy logo. Now booting back to the recovery (first e3 then cwm) i got bunch of error about partritions not being able to be mounted (happens the same if i want to manually mout them or format them)...
So, what to do ?
I have a suspicion, that flashing CM11 and the latest cwm recovery for it somehow messed up partritions.

ok not going to excruciating details of symptoms and explaining all of your errors for now just please read my advice @ post2 of this topic and follow the procedures accordingly and finished it with formatter tools and cm7 instructions you will find there ., after that you can install Kitkat Smart R2 like you are coming from another CM7 build instruction . btw some problem regarding super user privileges and play store 492-498 infamous bug was reported for this fairly new development .
