Has anyone received this ota update or even Kies? Kies doesn't have it and ota manual check is a no go. I guess I might unroot if it becomes available soon altho I will lose the "unlockedness" and I won't be able to use metro pcs on it. I think the mega is ready for a smoother and more efficient OS. Can't wait to see how it runs on it.

I got the DL OTA- takes about an hr. to download and must be over wifi. Over 500 mb. If you are rooted, it will not install. I unrooted with OTA rootkeeper Voodoo and it failed at 25%. Then I left it rooted. It failed at 28%. The 3rd time I unrooted with supersu. Crossed my fingers, let voodoo keep my root backup, and it did install.
Voodoo won't work on anything over 4.3, so it won't restore my root. Kingo won't work either. So you will lose root till someone figures out how to root without a flashable zip.
I wonder if you have to be on AT&T's network to get the update even if you're useing a different carrier.

You have to have an att sim in or you will get an error message- something like update check interrupted. Found this out cause I would have a ptel sim in it and the software check for update would fail with that message. At least that's how OTA works.

You don't have to have an AT&T sim in to get the update. Best bet, unroot with SuperSU and remove both the SIM and the SD card, power on and try the update.
My S4 Active upgraded to KitKat last week with a Net10 SIM in it, no problem.
I think you do on this phone I kept getting update interrupted with my t mobile sim card and 64gb memory card in. I did as you said and removed and im still getting that.
Try this...
Try to backup your phone via Kies. Once that is done, remove root permanently from superSU-settings then do a factory reset with the SIM and SD out. Once complete, connect to your wifi, download and install the update. Worked on mine.

That may have worked with your s4. This is a Mega. When I had my ptel sim in it I would get update check interupted. When I put in my att sim, The check would go though all the way. Then say I was on the latest available.
Is Net 10 an att mvno?? I know ptel is a t-mo mvno.
To save myself time, I just put in my att sim to grab the 4.4.2 update. You have to have a wifi connection or it won't DL. You can't be rooted or it won't install. I'm talking strictly OTA.
When I plugged into my Kies, it wanted to update to a newer kies version. That installed, then said it is not compatible with my Mega!! Offered to install Kies3. So I did. That works with the Mega. I don't know if it will work with my Note 8 tab.

I wasn't referring to my S4a, rather my Mega. I'm already working on an ODIN image and I'm currently dumping the PIT file so we can unlock the bootloader. Much easier in KitKat, I think

I wonder why Kies dosent have the update. What a bummer. What I did find out tho is even if you unroot and factory reset, the phone remains sim unlocked which is great news because I thought It would erase. Now to have to re-install all my apps and sign in to alllllllllllll my accounts all over again...I hate factory resetting.

Because the update was released by ATT, not by Samsung. The only way to d/l is by WiFi through ATT's updater.

Ok, finally figured it out.
1) Unroot device
2) Factory reset ( take out sim and sd)
3) after factory reset and you are back into your phone insert an active at&t sim and wait for it to activate. (you might have to restart)
4) Check for an update and BAM!
P.S if you have a hard time because every time you check for an update it makes you wait 24 hours befor you can check again, just set you date one day ahead in the settings and try again.

I get a message that my account is not set up for wifi hotspot no matter what APN I use. I used to be able to switch APNs, then switch back, and the hotspot would start. After the 4.1.83 update this isn't working.

According to Moto downgrading from 1.8.3 is not a good idea.

Yes, with gingerbreak
Once you update to the latest Atrix 4G release, do not downgrade to a previous version or you will lose functionality. A file system change was made to improve data integrity (for the technically inclined, journaling was enabled on a partition). Once updated, the change cannot be undone through flashing.
Is it safe to flash back?

Hello,
Sorry to hear about your problem. I've had friends who've this has happened to. What you have to do is, you have to start over. This link will be helpful. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209 and use the no-wipe version (unless if you don't care about your data). Then, Unlock your bootloader and try to re-install CMW. If you need help this video is very helpful:

The easiest way to get your phone back to normal is to put it into download mode. You should have Verizon software upgrade assistant on your computer, if you don't, just connect your phone on your computer and wait for it to be installed, Eventually you will see something that say Verizon software upgrade assistant. If you do just disregard this part. Go on repair mode and click repair. Let it do its magic and your phones back to normal. It will wipe all your data though. But its better than having a soft brick phone.:good::good:
Download the stock NC5.tar and Odin back to stock.

Though years later, I want to thank this poster for the answer that solved my VZW not authorized block [when I accidentally loaded a bad kernel] message and allowed me to get my old favorite phone, with many custom ROMs active again so I could get the great S4 active again to try to convince my un-tech spouse to try something besides a a LG 8600 flip, great phone that it is.

Did you Loki the recovery? I had to move some files that Loki needed to one of the system root directories before I could install clockwork mod recovery.
The user lordazoroth originally posted this method here in the T-Mobile SGSIII forum. However, I have confirmed that it works with the Note 3 (at least with the Verizon variant) with one small difference. Feel free to give us both a "THANKS" if this helped you out.
You can disable the OTA Update notification by following the steps below. Just be aware that there is a small change in STEP #3.
Solution:
Step 1. Delete the update located in /cache/fota/ (may be /data/fota) and then click the update notification prompt to install it, it will instantly fail and the notification will disappear. (My phone rebooted and tried to install the update - this is the point where my Note 3 gave the update failed notification. I just rebooted the phone and went to STEP #2.)
Step 2. Disable otacerts.zip located in /etc/security by renaming it to otacerts.zip.bak
Step 3. Disable FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk by renaming with .bak extensions located in /system/app/
Step 4. Reboot
(NOTE: The difference in STEP #3 for the Galaxy Note 3 is that the [FotaClient.apk] is named [LocalFotaClient.apk] instead of just [FotaClient.apk]. All of the other steps are the same.
Continue running JB 4.3 and enjoy your Note 3 without that nagging update notification!
But the kitkat update is awesome... so you might want to reconsider doing this

I got the annoying OTA update today... I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE!!! Why can't they give us an option instead of forcing it down our throats?
Is there any way to disable the update WITHOUT ROOTING? I read everywhere you need ROOT ACCESS to delete the SDM.apk FILE and such. I can't delete it without root.
How can I get rid of the annoying update WITHOUT ROOTING or what is the easiest way to gain root without wiping out everything and starting over?
As of this morning...Verizon seems to be trying to "ram the update" onto your note 3
I was rooted and safestrapped on MJE and when I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning...I had a notice that the update failed to install.
I had previously downloaded, but removed the download.

No way of knowing how far it got. If it was able to get the bootloader nailed in...yes. Screwed. Welcome to kk. If not, whatever you do will wipe at this point.
Safest bet to try and see if you can retain jb is with odin...if it lets you. If it does, great. If it doesn't, you still need odin because you just interrupted a firmware update and probably just soft bricked your phone. So you'll need odin to put kk on your phone.
--
If niether of these things look good, they aren't. So try this first. Try booting to recovery. If you can, it's possible you just saved yourself from learning to use odin. Do a factory reset and reboot. See if it boots to jb. If it does, root asap. If not (it just hangs forever or loops), you're bricked. Try to odin jb. If it keeps failing, you're stuck with kk and you need to odin kk.
If you can't get to recovery and just hangs or loops, odin jb or kk. Whichever it lets you.
If it doesn't let you boot to recovery because it continues to upgrade, at this point let it. This is the ONLY possible scenario that you will keep anything.
Mind you, everything I just covered will never touch any files on external sd memory.
This is a lot to process. So take your time. Good luck!

GRRR it installed Kitkat successfully. I'm SO MAD.. I should have set the annoying OTA notification for a different time so that it wouldn't constantly pop up every second... I would have been home free rooted on Jellybean if it weren't for the STUPID UPDATE.
So can I still DOWNGRADE to Jellybean and be rooted? or did Verizon LOCK or restrict stuff with the update? Can I go back to Jellybean keeping all my files?

Using KINGO was so easy and right when I WAS ABOUT TO DELETE THE STUPID SDM file in the system folder, the update popup came up and accidentally hit the UPDATE And it just rebooted instantly!! I hate how they don't even allow you to cancel or anything... like totally forcing it in your face!!
I still have SuperSU but no longer functions it says "There isn o SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
So there's no way to have root access now?? I can't flash back to Jellybean??? Verizon/Samsung really screwed us here. There must be a way to have root access in Jellybean... I don't care for custom roms... I just want root access!!

AH EVIL VERIZON... freaking Verizon...
There seriously is no way to flash back to Jellybean and be rooted??? or be rooted in Kitkat?? This is SO RIDICULOUS..
I'm at least glad FoxFi fixed a way to still work with KitKat... if they didn't, I'd be really pissed to have no hotspot and stuck with KitKat... screw you VERIZON.

As it has been warned now many, many, many times.... There is NO GOING BACK if you take the NC4 update. Also, as of now, there also NO root method for it. You're stuck on it.

So it would be pointless for me to try to use Odin to flash back to stock Jellybean and then KINGO? It won't even flash back?
I did successfully root before OTA installed Kitkat on mine... does that make any difference?

Unfortunately no. Once you have nc4 loaded you cannot go backwards.

bummer
I have recently purchased a Verizon note 2 and I'm on the att network and have a few questions. I know with this new knoxs security you can't downgrade so I can unlock the bootloader and install clockworkmod. I've done loads of research and I still have a few questions. Can I downgrade this phone to unlock it. If I got into Odin mode it doesn't show knoxs. Also if I can do I have to install Verizon roms or can I put the att roms on it. The only experience I have is with rooting an older HTC phone. Thank you for your time.

If you feel yourself being handy and don't mind taking a risk of damaging your phone permanently. There is a way to downgrade the bootloader. Here is the link. I've personally done this myself when i borked my bootloader and I was able to restore the Bootloader in SD Card mode (Shorting the resistor on the board). It worked for me. If you decide to try it, make a response in that thread with your findings. I have a screenshot in that thread on what the screen should look like in SD Card mode.

I think I'll try that. If it works could I put an ATT JEDI rom on it? or would it have to be the Verizon variant?

I have an i605 running the t0lte version of Clean ROM. I've put the ATT JediX on mine before no problems. I'm on straighttalk now. Verizon roms worked on straighttalk, only problem I had was incoming numbers area code always preceeded with a +1, moved to ATT Roms and no problem.

Try slimkat att version.. W3 26. This is what I'm on now. Also be sure to flash philz recovery for the 7105 so your phone appears to the ROM as a 7105 and not a 605

I can't flash anything right now. I attempted to flash ND7 back to at least get something working but it just goes to the Samsung galaxy note screen. I tried to use the PIT but that didn't work either. I can get into odin mode and recovery but in recovery is says that everything is missing when it tries to mount and when I try to wipe is says something about block error.
Looks exactly like this

I believe so. Be sure to have a 4.4.2 bootloader handy in case it doesn't work. SD card mode saved my ass

So if the 4.1 bootloader doesnt work I should use 4.4.2 bootloader in sd card mode?

Downgrade possible?
Download link
Can somebody give download link to g930a bq6
Just upgraded. I was hoping the volume control would be fixed in this version of Android but it is just as dumb as the last one. Volume buttons only adjust ringtone but not notifications. Media volume gets turned down with headphone or Bluetooth connect. To turn up the volume I have to click OK, WTF... I have been blasted with loud music when numerous times in my car when switching sourves because the volume on the phone is lowered automatically.

QA6 IS the same version we had a week or so ago. Same revision number. QA4 was the one before that and the one you may be referring too but we got QA6 beforehand also. If you have QA6 ready to go, it's the same thing.
Is there any reason for a phone not to get the upgrade. Everyone around me as gotten the upgrade but my phone still says software is up to date.

A little more info about your phone would make it easier for people to help you. What firmware are you on, have you froze any apps in the past, are they still frozen, have you rooted, if yes then what method did you use to unroot.

Yea i would reenable them since APK1 is the latest firmware not APG1. At least it is in the S7 flat. You have the edge it looks like.
I enabled all apps and set my date ahead to check again still says I am on the latest.

Find the APK1 firmware for the edge and use Odin to flash it (will erase data on phone), wait 24 hours ad check again. Or download the nougat QA6 file and sideload it (also will erase data on phone) . That's what i suggest. Or after you reenabled the apps you can reboot your phone into recovery and wipe cache.
I downgraded to PK1 and bam! On QA6 via OTA. This also resolved the issue with AMEX not registering on Sammy Pay.
Problem with my phone
I have the same issue everyone around me got nougat and I still don't. I've tried everything even side loading and I got a signature verification error when I tried 3 different times

QA6 went on mine fine with PK1 on my phone. I used QA6 on a new SD Card method, so was only thing on SD card when I booted phone into Recovery to install QA6 from the SD card.
