Hey peeps,
Am totally new to android as I have only just binned my iphone contact and got a Ultra, the issue am having, I am reading and reading and getting nowhere fast
I would like to root my phone but I seem to be getting stuck in an endless loop which I don't know how to break!
Phone is brand new, no contacts, nothing, I just want to do the following, which I would have thought would be in this order,
Backup the TA (As I have read and read that this will save the DRM keys, which once lost are gone)
Now, I read to backup the TA, I need to root, to root I need to unlock bootloader, to unlockboot loader you have to root all of which then I read is warnings that you can lose the DRM's
Arrrghhhh
I have the flashtool installed
Am on .757
My bootloader is locked but unless the .757 update changed it I was able to unlock it but everything I have tried and read doesn't work
I have my unlock key as well, and I have vague idea's what I want to do but there are so many threads and everything seems to loop back to to root, you need unlock, to unlock you need root to flash you need root lol am going crazy.
Am not sure why am struggling so much with following the guides but I guess it's cause I have zero experience with doing this.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Yeah, I'm not surprised by this at all; and welcome! You have to downgrade to 532 using Flashtool, then root, and then backup the TA partition. You're free to upgrade to 757 again after that, unlock your bootloader and root 757.

Thanks for that info mate, so far that's made more sense than searching all of these posts
Am thinking about two steps in this guide to downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593918
First one seems very simple, but second one seems to flash them back to solid stock from the look of it.
Once downgraded,
I thought you require bootloader unlocked before you can root, and from what I read you need root to unlock/backup, or have I missed something?
(hopefully will be back to 532 shortly after files finish downloading.

Hey mate, yesterday i had successfully root my XZU with locked bootloader and no backup TA or else, because I'm not yet decided to unlock.
Currently your device is locked or unlocked bootloader?.
Perhaps i could help you.
Currently mines locked.

Just do as has been said a thousand times...
Downgrade to .532 - see my downgrade thread
Root using either [NUT]'s dual recovery or bin4ries tool - see thread in step above or LordManhattans guide
Backup the TA - see LordManhattons guide
Upgrade to latest FTF
Unlock bootloader
Root using jackies099's kernel
...
After hours of reading and searching around and trying to follow what LordManhattan said.
I have the phone down to 523.
I now have the bootloader unlocked
Just not sure on the rooting of the phone..
With Flashtool can I simple press the Lock key and root it that way? I don't know the difference between Superuser or SuperSU
Or do I have to do it another way?
I have looked at a number of rooting options and am unsure what to do, one way the links on the guide didn't work others are little confusing!

The order you have done it in is just wrong, so wrong... But what's done is done
Now that the bootloader is unlocked just flash a 757 FTF and install jackie099's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714511 and then flash SuperSu from recovery
Did you just skip backing up TA partition? Because if you did, that just defeats the purpose of downgrading

Morning peeps,
No atm I stopped at unlocking the bootloader after the downgrade, I have tried to run the Backup-TA-9.10 app but it fails on detecting Root cause obviously mines not rooted.
So regarding backup am not sure what am supposed to do, as all threads seem to point to that you require root to backup o.0
blueether I have read so many threads my eyes feel like they are going to bleed, like my original post stated, it seems to be a loop I was getting stuck in.
I cant backup without root from all the threads comments
I cant root without backup for safety and bootloader unlocked, and to unlock bootloader it seemed I had to be a specific version namely 532 to unlock.
So I have got somewhere, instead of pulling my hair out going no where
I hope the way I have moved forward doesn't or hasn't caused any possible lose of keys etc, so the question is, how do I backup before trying the next step of root?
Read post 6 above, follow all the steps in tat order

Hey dude, what's going on? .. have you successfully root yet?
Which step is you dont understand to ROOT? .
Done the downgrade!
2.Root using either [NUT]'s dual recovery or bin4ries tool - see thread in step above or LordManhattans guide
Its the above, gone to Bin4ries post, the links don't seem to download for me? so cant get the tool to do the root
3.Backup the TA - see LordManhattons guide - should be able to do that, its working to the point of seeing it's not rooted, so not worried about that part!
4.Upgrade to latest FTF
5.Unlock bootloader - Already done by mistake thinking it was done easiler :S
6.Root using jackies099's kernel
7....
The thing I have noticed as well atm which am slightly worried about, is my sim card says invalid atm, hoping that changes when it's all finished

Lol, you shouldn't unlock bootloader =.=" if you only required ROOT =.=".
if you worried, flash stock rom and redo to root?
Well am confused and lost atm.

Trying to carry out Point 2, I cant get any of the software it seems as I cant get the links to work
So atm I have a phone working but telling me my sim is "invalid card - no service" currently
Any help for links to the Nuts, or Binary software would be grateful

the sim/imei problem shouldn't have happened if you followed my guide, but dont worry, it will come back after step 4
for step to use http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=WlUtbG9ja2VkZHVhbHJlY292ZXJ5Mi43LjEyMy1CRVRBLmluc3RhbGxlci56aXA= from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647492 and follow the instructions in post 2
Step 2 is only so we can get a backup of the TA so that it is safe to unlock the bootloader
Step 4 when you update to the latest FTF you will lose root
Step 5 will allow you to get root any time you want without having to do the downgrade dance
Step 6 is needed because the stock kernel wont keep write access to the system. This step also re-installs recovery so that you can flash the superSU update binary
Hi Blue,
Feel like am getting my self further and further into the **** with this
I was able to find bin4ries tool after searching on the net for awhile, and used that as advised, which has worked and didn't seem to be a problem, the SU appeared etc.
I then did the Backup which again has gone fine.
I updated what I thought was the latest TFT C6833_14.1.b.2.257_euro-lte.ftf from one of the links but looking at the phones version am still showing 532
That's the stage am at with still the sim/imei issue
I have downloaded the link you have provided for the lockeddualrecovery looking at it, I get options to
1. installation on ROM rooted with SuperSU
2. "" "" " with SUperUser
3. installation on unrooted ROM
4. exit
at this stage am not sure what to do, as I thought getting all the other steps completed now would have solved this.
Think am starting to regretting trying this and feeling like a total tool!

OK so you are past step 3 now and you have a rooted phone with a backed up TA partition.
Step 4

I have a Sony Xperia Tablet Z, 64GB WiFi (SPG312) running stock 4.3, and I can not root this thing. I've tried several different methods to no avail. Does anyone on here know how to root this thing? I'm ultimately trying to install CM11.
Either go back to 4.2, root with Doom's Rootkit, then install a recovery, and install 4.3 already rooted, or unlock your bootloader, install CM kernel, use the recovery built in to install the SuperUser zip, then flash stock kernel again.

So unlock the bootloader? How do I go about that? And after that I can install CM right from there? That sounds like the one thing I haven't tried.
How do I go about doing that?
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
Follow that link. It's pretty easy. Just make sure you have all the tools in hand. Shouldn't take more than a hour to read everything and do the procedure, if you have everything ready.
It's mentioned there, but remember that it will void your warranty and, with Android 4.3 or lower, on stock ROMs, you will not have Bravia Engine working. Also, in any version, Music and Video Unlimited will not work anymore.
Another big tip: Go to the Xperia Z section (the phone one), and on the sub categories, can enter one called Cross Device Development, or something along those lines, and look for a thread with the name TA backup. If you do the long process, of going back and such, backup your keys. Should come in handy in the future.

u need to download flashtool and find a 4.1.2 rom for your device...
then you can either use framaroot 1.91(gandalf exploit) or use doomlords root setup...
after that you can install phill'z recovery...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343 this link was very help full for my device sgp311 and i think its almost the same for your device only the rom and the stripped .ftf will be different...
unlocking your boatloader is not really applied to you,you only need it if you want to install custom roms...but before you do search a bit around to find hou you can backup your drm keys aka .ta partition.
Make sure you downgrade to 4.2 and root using http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=V...jb3ZlcnkyLjcuMTIzLUJFVEEuaW5zdGFsbGVyLnppcA== option 3 then backup your TA partition before unlocking your bootloader, or theoretically you'll lose warranty
ok ok ok
So what steps do I take to install CM11?
Which method posted would get me there? You guys are saying a lot of different things here, have me a little confused

Hello, I had my Z2 there some day and I want to :
Root
Unlock Bootloader and do a Backup "TA"
But unfortunately I understand anything about procedure and what to follow.
I had a HTC one X who was also root (Fairly easy to do). And afraid to make a false manipulation, I prefer to ask you directly.
Even with the tutorial XDA I understand nothing
Here is all the info:
Build Number: 17.1.2.A.0.314
Android version: 4.4.2
Model Number: D6503
Color: Black
What program should I use?
I had heard of "Towelroot" but apparently it would be outdated.
There are also "rootkitXperia" but when I open it strikes me as' Ads is not recognized as an intern command"
"FlashBoot" Is it still relevant or is overcome?
I activate the developper Mode and the USB Debugging
Thank you for your help :good:
Edit: The phone is root, but when I try to follow the 3 steps of the backup TA that does not seem to work because I find no backup.

Are you using the toolkit to back up your TA partition? The toolkit should be found on the cross development section. If you can use a previous version such as v9 or something, all you need to do is go to towelroot website and download the apk, put that new apk into the 'files' folder of the toolkit and then run the install.bat file and follow the instructions.

Hello,
Thank your for your replay.
I just want to save the TA partition, Bootloader and then have a Custom Rom (Is the fact of changing rom allows to have a phone to unlock operator?)
toolkit is used to be the only root ?
@Steinshy Ok m8, for TA use this (assuming you have windows).
For root use this (I used v11 to root .314 firmware with a locked bootloader). Also read this It has lots of info and usefull links. If you want to flash a custom rom you'll need to flash this (assuming you have a locked bootloader). If your operator has locked your phone i.e. Bootloader unlock allowed: No it doesn't matter cause you can still root. You just can't flash custom kernels or roms that require a custom kernel. I hope this helps you a bit m8. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Good luck m8:highfive:

Because i don't like to wait i use pc companion to upgrade my new z2 (sgp511) to android 4.4.4, there i notice that i lost root. Since i can't root android 4.4.4 i want to downgrade android, but first i have some question to ask.
1) Can i backup my drm key without root?
2) Do i erase them when i unlock the bootloader? (i know i loose every thing but since they are part of the system maybe i won't loose them)
Because if i don't lose them with the unlock, that would make my life easier.
Where i can find my the originals image of android? (although if i can unlock with out loosing the drm i won't need to downgrade)
Any advice that can help me will be apreciate
1) Nope
2) Yes
You have choices. Pc Companion, Flashtool or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54527942

You can downgrade to root able firmware, root it properly, install dual recovery and flash prerooted firmware via custom recovery. Drm keys might be important for some propiarty stuff working the way Sony think they should like camera, gallery etc.
if i don't care for the key, insted of downgrade the soft , i should install preroot firmware?

If you want to. With unlocked bootloader you are able to quite easily root it and do what ever you decide. Little warning though. Without TA backup your DRM keys are gone for good. There is no way to get them back and if you need your warranty there is high risk that it is gone too.
i know and i want too backup them but i don't know how t do it without root, which i can't have until i unlock my tablet i e circular problem

If you don't want to downgrade there is problem yes. Because we have root with locked bootloader I don't think there much activity to find new rooting method to latest firmware versions.

Find rootable ftf file for your device for example this: https://mega.co.nz/#!kcxxjaLA!itErjRi2fYPPswal-c7XasF_lAvPKyY4GwEzY3xgHZ0 and just use Flashtool to install it. You don´t need to have root to do it and it don´t have any effect to your DRM keys.
Thanks for the good new, but first 2 more questions, i doesn't affect that the image is for another country? Can i use ota with this image?

It doesn´t matter much which region firmware you install to SGP511 because it´s wifi only and only differencies are some bloatware. If you are going to root your device and then update with ota it may work or it may failed. Don´t think region matters here either if there is ota for that region. But, by all means use your regions ftf file.

No need to unlock bootloader or anything with kernel. If there isn´t prerooted firmware for your region in xda before and you need any help, please ask.
Ok so I just purchased a Verizon 4G LTE verison 16 GB model and want to to root and unlock bootloader (so I can put CM on it) and am on 4.4.2 build number 17.1.D.0.437. Im used to rooting Nexus devices where its a quick, simple process but this seems a bit more complicated. Considering I still may return this device, what tutorial/steps should I follow and will I be able to relock/unroot and return to stock if I do decide to return this? Thanks so much for any help that can be provided.
Search for easy root tool for experia, is a script for root, after that install from the play su. Back up Your drm a there you can can unlock safety. Of you don't care the drm key you can Just unlock from the page of aony

I like to revive this post with the next question, as i'm a little paranid and i like to complicate y life, i like to modigy a ftf a por the root files inside so i can flash with flashtool, but all the info i find show ways to flash using recovery.
So what i already do is:
i download the files with pc companion
decrypt and remake them to ftf with flashtool.
i tried PRFCreator ( but i creat a zip to flash with recovery)
So what i want to do is to make my own root ftf, so i can just flash that and i don't have to do anything else.
pd: i in no hurry, but i like to do it this way so i can learn for future updates (ex lolipop)
pd2: also i want to make al the steps so i can translate to my fellows argentinia users.

Sorry to tell you but if you meant that you want to make prerooted ftf file to flash via Flashtool it is not possible. To achieve root with updated Sony´s firmwares your need custom recovery installed or unlocked bootloader.
ok, with that i narrown my option to only one the ones descript before, but i have one doubt, why dual recovery?
1) I always use twrp, why dual?
2) will i lose ota update with dual?

1) Because it disable Sony ric.
2) Most likely.
So today I managed to root my Z2
Following advice from o0 Matt 0o in another thread, I downgraded from 4.4.4 to 4.42 using flashtool, then using the rootkitXperia_20140719 install.bat the phone is now rooted (for some reason it would not find adb even though running adb from a cmd prompt worked!)
Anyway, now I am on 4.4.2 with root, if I upgrade back to stock 4.4.4 rom will I lose the root?
EDIT: I have installed dual recovery, is there a pre packaged rooted rom for:
Android 4.4.4
23.0.1.A.0.167
United Kingdom - 3 - 1281-2574

Dont really want to create a rooted package myself, the steps can be confusing
Thanks!
Since you have dual recovery on 4.4.2 you can use the pre-rooted package by niaboc79 (can be found in the Android Development section) or any pre-rooted stock based ROM based on 4.4.4. It is all down to your preference.
I doubt there will be a 3 branded pre-rooted package either.
Actually you're right I should just get one of those roms which is not branded which would look better anyway
One last thing what is the steps to backup ta partition? At some point I will unlock bootloader but don't want to lose the dry keys
Cheers

In the Sony cross device development section there is the backup TA tool, simply use that. Also, make sure to upload your backup to a cloud service or something like that, in case your hard drive goes kaput and you need it to relock your bootloader.
Please remember that unlocking the bootloader wipes the internal SD card (not the user one). Also, restoring the TA backup relocks the bootloader so make sure you are on a stock ROM and kernel when you restore the backup.
