[Solved]Disappearing imei on XXMC firmware - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We, the people over xda are power users and we are mostly like to be on the bleeding edge and love to be on the latest offerings but not always are these softwares be great for everyday use and like most of us we love roms and flash them to tweak the mobile by installing custom roms and the worst thing about installing custom roms is the fact that IMEI disappears on the installation of certain roms over the stock XXMC firmware that most of us are on and like the rest of you i am also on the XXMC firmware and lose my IMEI almost all the times i installed the custom roms and i figured out that after installing a custom roms you can install any of the custom kernels which are in the development section of the GT-S5830i like Rafael Baugis[be careful that you install only the corresponding boot.img and the corresponding modules for that], hell lock kernel and many others.. and i have tried this method many time and trust me it works fine so go ahead and flash the custom roms of ur choice and then flash a custom kernel to the mobile to get back your IMEI

[Q] A few questions about ROMs/kernels/recovery from a HTC Hero user

Hey guys!
I might be getting a Galaxy S 2 for christmas, and i have a few questions regarding ROM flashing and related things.
On the Hero, you would flash a recovery and use that to flash everything else, ROMs, kernels, the load of it. In other words, recovery is completely independent from the ROM and kernel.
I've been looking around the developer forums here, and I'm slightly confused on how this works on the SGS2. I see a lot of kernels have CWM as a feature. Is it built in to the kernel somehow? Or is the kernel required to support it?
Lets say i want to flash a new kernel. Do i have to use this "Odin" program to do that, or can it be done in CWM as long as the kernel supports the version of CWM im using?
I'm also seeing a lot of ROMs that can/have to be flashed through Odin. Is this the preferred method over using recovery on the SGS2, or is it just a matter of personal preference?
The last thing that's been bugging me, is that if i buy my phone in Singapore (I live in Norway, but I'm going away for the holidays), will this have any ramifications for what ROMs i can use? I'll make sure not to get the G version of course, but apart from that, are there any regional limitations I should be aware of? (Something about CSCs?)
Thanks in advance!
You can root via Odin by just flashing CF Root, this is a stock kernel with CWM and other little things injected into it.
Once rooted you'll have CWM, reboot into recovery and flash away, custom roms are usually CWM, stock roms you'll need Odin or even Mobile Odin can do this.
Kernels again most devs release a tar for odin and a package for CWM so not an issue. Nearly all custom kernels have CWM and I've personally had no issues going from one version to the other.
Modem same, odin version and there's a big thread for CWM versions.
It's pretty similar.
Flashing a rom won't have any significance to where about in the world you are as the I9100 is an international version.
Modems can vary between countries as in signal strength and such but shouldn't be an issue with KI3, KI4, KI1, new KL1 being the most used.
CSCs are not an issue as well, you can change it via Odin, I just use a UK one but at times just settle with whatever comes with the rom, it's easy to change to your preferred country but should have no negative affect wherever in the world you are.

[Q][KERNEL][CSC][ROM] well.. now that i know a little bit about what's going on...

Hello peeps
i just had a some more questions regarding the above subjects..
Am I right in knowing that you need compatible kernels to flash certain roms and for those to work?
And am I correct in believing that I can flash any kernel to my phone? (well SGS2's)
If so, when I want to flash a new kernel.. do I need to preload the zip file of compatible rom so i can flash it straight away? (because otherwise i will have a kernel and a rom that is not compatible?)
and with csc and modems..
when im in romkitchen do i need to select the specific options depending on my physical phone and location or kernel and rom?
thanks
1. no, you can mix and match roms and kernals.
ist flash the rom you like which comes with its own kernal, then you can flash another kernal like siyah on top of that to give some improvements.
2. almost any sgs 2 will work some will not read the developers comments, they will state if the rom will cause problems with certain versions of the phone.
3. answered in the above items.
4. csc and modem do depend on location, try to load csc and modems that work for your region of country, there are plenty of threads that answer the location question.

help with my new s2

i am from galaxy mini forum so get a galaxy s2 but how to know if it is S2 or S2 GT-i9100 o and what the diffirence?? and can you gays pleas link me to a tut aboug instaling costome recovery, which ODIN to use and so on .... last thing which is the best stable rom to use .....thanks in advance
1) Check the sticker on the phone chassis under the battery.
2) Differences between SGS2 variants ? Wikipedia.
3) Just about everything you need to know to get you started is in the Stickies.
4) There's no such thing as the "best stable rom to use". There are a heap of custom roms for the SGS2, it's an individual preference thing. And because no two people use their phone the same way or have it setup the same, and because component-wise no two phones come out of the factory exactly the same, your experience with a particular rom will most likely vary from mine.
The best thing to do is to get your phone rooted, preferably with CWM installed. This will enable you to backup, restore & flash roms/kernels in a matter of minutes. You can than try a bunch of roms for yourself. If you find you don't like a rom you try, it's easy to go back to your previous setup easily by restoring a backup; recommended regularly/before you flash anything to your phone.
ok so by flashing cwm and then a costom rom the divise will root by it self and do i have to flash a stock ics rom to install a costom ics rom??????
Lackchoo,
Flash one of Chainfire's kernels. His instructions are very clear. That will give you root and CWM, and possibly also a yellow triangle at startup which you shouldn't worry about at all.
You don't need to flash a stock ICS ROM to flash a custom ROM. After rooted, in CWM, just install the downloaded ZIP ROM file of the custom ROM. You will keep root and triangle will go away.
Ditto what the above person said about ROM's. However, you can try Cyanogen (Do a 'stable' release, not a 'nightly'), its the most 'popular' ROM in terms of numbers. One can't and shouldn't say which one is best. But for a newbie, I think Cyanogen is a good place to start. Perhaps it will give you the least issues and the most 'oohs!' for your initial newbie effort
I don't have the links with me from the smart phone, but just search 'chainfire kernel root galaxy s2' and 'cyanogen galaxy s2' and you should find the relevant thread. Read it slowly and repeatedly! I know I had to

[Q] Do custom roms have kernels? Like CM12

I have never installed a custom rom in my 4 year android experience. But alwaya modified stock roms. Now I have gotten tired of the stock lollipop performance on my note 3 n900. A nexus 5 is way faster than my note 3.
I am thinking about flashing CM12.1 on my note 3.
But I am scared about kernel stuff.
Do custom roms replace the stock kernel? Like CM12.1
And is it dangerous to install custom kernels.
Also
How easy it is to go to stock after custom rom?
Is it just a simple flash through odin?
I read somewhere that odin mode can also get corrupted.
I want to know
How easy it is to mess up the odin mode and Brick my device 100 percent
As far as my knowledge goes
As long as there is odin
U can flash stock rom.
Plssssss do give answers any one who is advanced in android at such a level.
It wud mean a looooot to me.

Stock Firmware or Custom Rom

Hello everybody.
My dad has an S6 Edge G925F. He's been using it for about 2 years. It has some problems now. For example there is no ring tone. I mean if he receives a call the phone vibrates only. If I wipe the cache it rings for a few hours and stops again.
Secondly the back button does not work properly.
My question is, is it better to flash a custom rom or a stock firmware?
Isn't it going to have the same problems again if I flash the stock Firmware?
Kind Regards
Simon
Look into custom ROMs and decide for yourself.
Many S6 Custom ROMs are so buggy that staying on Stock is more than wise...

For your dad, stock is the best option. I would recommend to just upgrade or downgrade the firmware, backup and reset everything (wipe all, clean flash, etc), and flash a newer or older firmware through odin. If the problems still persist, try custom roms like odexlite, etc.. I flash custom roms onto my s6 edge every now and then and right now, all I can say is that stock is giving me better battery life, lower temperature and it feels smoother, plus no noticeable bugs (if there are any). With custom roms, you'd have to check every now and then for an update if ever a bug comes up with the rom.
