Yesterday I was trying to update my Nexus 5 from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3. It rebooted me into CWM recovery and asked me to install the .zip to update. It finished successfully, but then it asked me something upon rebooting about fixing root that I had not seen before. I clicked "Go Back" but when I did it shut down and now it will not boot android (all I can see if the coloured circles forever) and when I try to enter recovery mode all I can see is an android symbol with its chest open and a red error triangle. So I have no access to android or CWM, and only to fastboot mode. Is my phone bricked or is there a fix?

Don't worry your device is not fully bricked, just soft-bricked. You have two options, since you have access, to fastboot you can reflash a custom recovery and then sideload a custom ROM and flash that in the custom recovery. Or your other option is to use fastboot to flash the stock factory image for Android 4.4.3 for the Nexus 5 which can be found here. Let me know if you still have questions I'll be happy to help you out.

I just unlocked and re-rooted (verified with root checker) and have tried flashing 3 different CWM recoveries via fastboot and cannot get into recovery. Always says the recovery flashed fine but when booting and trying to select from boot menu it I keep getting the black screen with the green android guy and exclamation mark.
What can I do to get recovery going so I can flash some roms?
*EDIT...I found a solution to this and got it going. Never do this while wrapped up in March Madness.
Same prob only exclamation guy through CM9 install, wiped phone and have no reboot into anything. Now phone won't hold charge enough to fast boot.how did you resolve your issue???
Hi all,
I had a rooted Nexus 9 running 5.0.2 and I attempted to update to 5.1.1 using the Nexus Toolkit by Wugfresh.
When I tried to update the following message appeared in the CMD window: "Error: update package missing system.img"
I had previously encrypted my Nexus 9 also, and decided to attempt a factory reset which I did from the Backup & Reset menu. I then attempted to update via the Nexus toolkit again but had the same issue. I booted into TWRP and did a factory reset from there, however when the tablet booted back up I got stuck on the "Checking Connection" screen after I had selected a WiFi network. It was stuck checking the connection for over an hour. I booted into TWRP again however this time I erroneously wiped the system together with all the other partitions and have now wiped the OS.
I still have the same problem when trying to install even an older version of android 5.0.1 as an example - with the same missing system.img message coming up.
I've now installed the Android SDK and am stuck attempting a manual installation.
I would appreciate some help installing android back on my tablet! Please help if you can!
I'm not a complete noob, but I do get somewhat baffled by the command line instructions and so a step by step would really help. I've googled around plenty but no one else seems to have had this problem with the Nexus 9.
Thanks in advance!
Teejster has made a step by step on flashing the latest factory image:

Why don't you just go back to Wug's, select Flash Stock/Unroot with "Bootlooped/Soft Bricked" checked and reinstall 5.1.1?
If it says "Fastboot not detected" or something just boot into the bootloader by holding down volume down and power and then select fastboot.
That should work.

Did this with my Nexus 7 a while back and it worked like a charm :good:
Prologue- Before the bootloop and can't boot to recovery mode
So my ZH&K Odyssey Spin has been affected by malware and viruses. The effect of this is that I can't seem to "Reset to Factory Settings" and it just says "Unmounting Phone Storage". I even tried to enter to "Recovery Mode" and resetting from there but still no luck. Then I read about custom ROMs and flashing your ROM to remove malware and also rooting.
Chapter 1- The flashing, rooting and Custom ROMs
So I learned about rooting my android phone to gain more "admin" privileges and to be able to delete the bloatware in the stock ROM that ZH&K has but I noticed that the virus is included in the ROM so that gave me an idea to download a custom ROM and flash to my mobile phone to remove the bloatware and viruses. I tried doing the SPD Flash tool(UpgradeTool/FactoryDownload) and mounted the ROM for ZH&K Odyssey Spin (My phone hehehe ) and when I started the operation it just sat there doing nothing. So I researched more and found out about the ADB and fastboot methods of flashing ROM. I wanted to to flash TWRP Recovery into my phone but there was no TWRP Recovery available for my device so I "accidentally" downloaded the TWRP Recovery for Motorola G Falcon and after flashing to my device I noticed that I can't access the "Recovery mode".
Chapter 2-The "Bricking"
So when I flashed the 'TWRP Recovery for Motorola G Falcon' I cannot access the Recovery Mode. Take note that I learned about adb and fastbooting. So out of panic I typed "fastboot -w" (a command that wipes your data) into the cmd console. Then it happened when my phone rebooted it will show the "ZH&K" logo and play its animation and also has sound but after that it just stays that way and black screen and bootloop. So I tried to access the Recovery Mode(which is now unaccessible:crying and still shows the logo but does not go in but instead the screen goes black.
Epilogue- The "Begging for Help"
So I don't know what to do at this point and want some assistance for I have searched the net and there is no other problem like mine I even did the Battery pull method to "refresh" the phone but still no luck and some help will be greatly appreciated !
Phone: ZH&K Odyssey Spin
External: 8gb Sandisk
If you want to know something just ask thanks!!!
Hi guys, I really need your help.
I'm new at this rooting stuffs and I tried to root my Oppo Neo 5.
I tried so many softwares like OneClickRoot, FramaRoot, and Kingroot but none seemed to work.
So I resorted to an app called oppo tools
It worked at first but I got really annoyed when my status bar suddenly colored to red when my phone discharges to 15% so I unrooted my phone and rooted back again. I really thought that was going to fix my problem but that's where the bootloop issue started.
I tried to flash some custom recovery zip but it failed since I only have a stock recovery.
But the thing is, I found a guide that says to rename the clockworkrecovery img to PG86IMG.zip.
So I did tried that and as soon as I flashed the zip from my stock recovery, my phone hanged.
I long-pressed the power button to restart and boot into recovery mode but nothing seems to happen.
I'll try to explain a bit more on how it looks when I boot my device.
When it boots normally (I mean not pressing the volume to enter recovery mode) it will only show the logo but when I try to go into recovery mode it will show the logo with a little text on the lower left portion "Recovery Mode"
Before I flashed the PG86IMG.zip, recovery mode was still working and the charging screen when off is working too.
but after I flashed the zip, every time I try to recovery mode the logo shows up with the little text but RECOVERY MODE isn't working. When I charge my phone it automatically boots up and shows the logo and text like it's trying to go recovery mode (I'm just trying to charge? It's going to recovery mode)
I tried using "adb devices" on cmd but it's not detecting any devices.
I'm really out of ideas guys, I know not all people use this model but what would be your suggestion?
A suggestion on how to fix this would really be appreciated :good:
I'm sorry I'm really new at this, please correct me if I did something wrong starting this thread.
@DeepBricked please confirm your problem, Boot-loop and can enter into recovery.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't notice.
Lately I can't access the recovery mode but now
I'm currently on Boot-loop and I can enter into recovery.
The ColorOS recovery mode only have limited function that I can mess around.
It only has the apply update, wipe data and cache, reboot, power off and system file verification.
As always I already did wipe the data and cache but nothing happens. Still boot-loop.
What should I do?

You made a soft brick, not to worry flash it with correct stock firmware, if the phone is in warranty than ask them to do flash, this will take approx 10-30min. If it isn't in warranty than you should try it own or else pay some amount and the rest they will do.
Salman.

Hi all,
I own the Acer A3-B20 and had it rooted some time ago with Kingroot. Installed a system update by Acer a few days ago and since then the tablet only boots in Recovery Mode. Resetting to factory defaults does not help, the filesystem integrity checker shows a few modified files.
Only viable option in recovery mode seems flashing a new firmware and I tried to do so with the currently available offical ROM from Acer: "AV0L0.B3-A20.RV03RC06.WW.GEN1". Flashing starts successfully but ends in the android screen of death (lying robot with red triangle).
Does anybody have a better idea on what to try? I haven't been able to find another firmware to try except the aforementioned.
Cheers,
Jarek

Try Wiping your System partition then doing a Clean Install of the ROM using Fastboot.
Hopefully there will be a option in your Recovery to restart the device in boot loader mode(that's fastboot).
Hi,
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I'm not able to enter bootloader mode. Recovery mode has an option "Reboot to bootloader" which causes the tablet to power down, nothing else happens.
Also, booting up with Power+Volume Down/Up (tried both) only boots to the same recovery mode.

To access the recovery menu on my B3-A20, I use the Volume-Down by itself; The Power+Volume-up combination starts a Chinese factory test/debug menu.
